As a local who has been living in the area for 20 years , I've seen the ownership change over multiple times. I used to come here all the time and eat when I was younger with friends and family, however since the new owners took over years ago it has not been the same. The price of food has gone up significantly and the quality has gone down. If you are a tourist I would recommend driving 15 more minutes to Cole's Corner and eating at the Squirrel Tree. There prices are about the same but you get way more food, and it's consistently good. I'm sorry for this review but the last 2 times I've eaten here has disappointed me enough to leave this comment. read more

Good food. Astonishingly bad service. When we asked for silverware that the server didn't bring us, instead of handing it to us (5 seconds max), he turned around and took another table's order. We had to get it ourselves. I asked for refills of coffee 3 or 4 times before another server took pity and brought some over. Pointlessly bad really since he only had the one other table. I was here on a girls weekend and came her with 4 friends it was so good, the biscuits are amazing, they even have a gluten free English muffin for one of us who couldn't have those amazing biscuits!! TL,DR: Great food, especially the meats. Clearly home-made, home-smoked, and home-seasoned. Gluten free is done really well. The menu is a bit limited, but it's a cafe not Red Robin, so that's expected. Where they really shine is in the variety of meat choices available for their burgers and sandwiches, and in their attentiveness to food source, simplicity, and allergies! My wife had their lamb burger (Gluten Free) which was done to perfection, and I had the pork sandwich. While I was expecting a pulled pork (I didn't read the menu too closely) I got a glorious smoked pork sandwich which far exceeded expectations. My wife has Celiac, so when the owner/hostess/waitress (yes, she's all three) told us that all their meats, sauces, and rubs were gluten free I thought my wife would jump up and hug her. It can be a struggle finding places that inspire confidence, Old Mill Cafe knocked it out of the park. This little spot was a great find for us, and we definitely plan to be back. We were staying at Fish Lake when we needed dinner; rather than drive all the way back to Leavenworth for something to eat, we gambled and ended up here. They even left the place open a bit after closing for us and one other straggler couple; treated like locals on our first time there. I like it. read more

Small town charm with pleasant & efficient customer service. I was really happy to see how clean the entire cafe was. Most smaller diners I have been in tend to let that go, but not here. The biscuits & gravy were some of the most flavorful we have ever had with just a touch if rosemary. Bacon was definitely butcher cut. The 1 waitress handled the place alone very well & didn't even seem overwhelmed. Prices very reasonable for their entire menu. This is the example if the "perfect small town cafe". We were just taking a drive and decided to stop. The menu was a surprise. Both my husband and I have lived in Texas in the past. The owners are from Texas. My smoked macaroni and cheese with brisket was delicious!!! My husband had the smoked burger that had a layer of pork belly on top of the burger. Scrumptious. The Old Mill is worth taking a detour to. Prices were reasonable, quality excellent. Expect to come here again. They are doing drive through take out you order online. read more

We were happy to find Old Mill open at 6:30pm the day of our arrival to the area with 5 hungry kiddos! I called to make sure the kids burgers were plain and they were so kind and reassuring. Highly recommend to eat here if you come to lake Wenatchee Park. Very good food and atmosphere just about 4 miles from Lake Wenatchee state park. There are only 4-5 restaurants and diners around here, and I don't want to drive 19 miles to Leavenworth for lunch. This cafe is in a cute small town called Plain and located in the plaza with cute hardware/souvenirs shop, coffee shop, and grocery. I order smoothies, mac&cheese, brisket slider,and tater. Everything tastes fresh and great. This place could be in Seattle and survive. I don't eat here because of limit choices, but because of the food quality. People who like big plate might not satisfy. Excellent service and delicious food. I came in with my wife and 2 friends. They both got Skillet Scrambles and my wife & I split the Pork Burrito. The burrito was good, not greasy and, when paired with the valentina salsa picante, it was quite yummy. We had the large orange juice (Simply Made) and it got the job done. We had the biscuits and gravy, breakfast sandwich and the skillet. Brisket was tinder and the right amount of smoky flavor. We were pretty disappointed in our experience. We sat at the counter and based off the way our glasses stuck to the counter, the counter had not been wiped down in a long, long time. I ordered the Morning Sandwich with the cheddar bagel and bacon. The bacon was on one side of the sandwich and there was no tomato which was supposed to be on the sandwich. My husband ordered a beer and according to two servers, there was something wrong with the taps and/or the CO2. So, my husband opted for a bottled beer and his first two choices were out. Our food timing was also really bad. My husband's meal sat on the counter for a good 10 minutes before my meal was ready. About half way through our meal another server came on and simply turned on the CO2 and poured two beers for other customers. The staff seemed very disorganized and the food was meh. It's possible we just came on an off day but for a Friday on 4th of July weekend, I was very let down. read more

Honestly menu selection was decent but overall the food was greasy in terms of too much cooking or frying oil on the dishes. Perhaps more detail in how their menu is prepared we might see improvement. Interior was not clean, chairs and table were 'sticky', can tell its been a while with a good wipe down. Carpet was unsettling, needs to be removed. Concept and direction are there just needs better execution. Maybe it'll get better. read more

We ordered two lone star BBQ platters, one with brisket and the other one with pork. For sides we ordered slaw, corn, fries and beans. BBQ pork, corn, beans and biscuits with honey butter were pretty good. Unfortunately, brisket was not edible as it was half pure fat and remaining meat portion was very difficult to chew. Slaw was probably days old with veggies turning black. I was really looking forward to have a Texas-style BBQ brisket again, but it was not even close to BBQ I had in Texas. We have been making the drive from Leavenworth to the Old Mill for years now. Unfortunately, we have only had their breakfast, which is fantastic! We will have to try and come for lunch and dinner. It is family owned and run and everyone working is happy, fun and great at customer service. The food is really good as most of it is all homemade in house. The owner/chef smokes his meats. The bread and pastries will shove you off your diet but once in awhile is ok. they also seem to do a booming drive-thru coffee business out a side window. read more

New management sucks. Horrible service, sub par food. Spent two hours here and spent the majority of the time waiting for menus, waiting for food, waiting for my check and a to go box. The waitress kept disappearing for ten minutes or more at a time when there were plenty of people waiting for seats, waiting to get their orders taken, and tables waiting to be cleared. I ordered the biscuits and gravy which tasted pretty good aside from one entire biscuit being completely dry as they only put gravy on the two bottom halves. My boyfriend had the brisket platter and said his biscuit was way too dry, the beans had no flavor and the brisket was just "alright". Won't be coming back unless maybe they change owners again - shame as this is the only restaurant actually in the town of Plain. read more

We've had a home just outside of Plain for going on 3 years and have eaten there at least 60-70 times. Good honest cafe fare at a reasonable price in a tidy and clean environment. Fast forward to this weekend, new owners, new menu but still the charming clean little cafe. The menu was sparse, at least for lunch and dinner fare. The breakfast menu was OK, but not a lot of variety. All four of us had country breakfast with 2 eggs over medium, hash browns and 3 had bacon and one had sausage. The eggs has a LOT of runny white, that is what you might expect for sunnyside up, not over medium. The fried potatoes were badly burnt and tasted of charcoal. The bacon was HEAVILY smoked, my wife still tastes it hours later, perhaps a bit too much smoke. The toast wasn't toasted, a few brown marks but essentially bread. The strawberry slice was tasty. We won't be coming back for at least a year to test it but not at all if the reviews don't show improvement. We miss the old ample menu and tasty food. read more
