It's a very cool and ominous spot. I love the old gravestones and trees. It's easily a walking distance from downtown and the main attractions. The day we went, it was packed. It's best to go early morning or late afternoon or even off season. Overall, a spot worth a visit if you love the spooky and historic aspect.

The cemetery is easy to spot, has a plaque at the entrance, free to visit. Not very crowded, on the hill, peaceful site. Capt. Daniel Malcolm, smuggler and supporter of the Sons of Liberty is buried here, also, Robert Newman, known for hanging the lanterns during Paul Revere's midnight ride, Edmund Hartt, builder of the USS Constitution, free African Americans and other historical figures. Another historical site, Copp's Hill dates from 1659 and it was Boston's largest colonial burying ground. Definitely worth the visit, you can stay as long as you want. We spend about 30 minutes in here, lots of nice greenery (we were here late summer). As usual, you get interesting puzzle pieces of history while browsing this site.

There is an older section of the cemetery that has some very nice, large monuments. In recent years, the cemetery has opened up new areas. If you are looking to purchase a plot, they appear to have some available. Family members are allowed to leave memorial items at their family grave sites and to plant bushes and flowers as well. Water spigots and hoses are located throughout the property making it easy to keep your plants watered. It's very nice to see grave site personalization. There is a small child's grave near our families plot. That family has chosen to leave toy cars and other items reflecting the child's interests and a memorial bench is nearby as well. Other graves have markers of wars fought, flags, and other items of interests the residents shared in life. It's very nice to see people there caring for their loved one's sites. The staff seem very personable, the grounds are pleasant and it's in a normally quiet area (except perhaps when the nearby fire apparatus are needed). What else can you really ask for in a final resting place?

The office is located…read moreinside of a beautifully stunning and crispy clean mausoleum with stained glass and memorials from floor to ceiling. There is also a place to light candles. Well kept and operated by professional staff that are willing to take the time to help you find your loved ones, even if they departed decades ago. Strict rules regarding no planting or decorating any grave sites. So, anything left will be tossed eventually. The cemetery is very clean and well kept. The gravestones are lined up a bit compact and the property stretches out for acres upon acres. It's highly recommended that you use a map to help guide you to the right place. If you don't have one, the office staff will gladly give it to you!

After Concord was incorporated as a town in the fall of 1635, one of the first official acts of its…read moreoriginal settlers, along with building a meetinghouse, was the establishment of two small burying grounds. This one, which came to be known as the "Hill Burying Ground" or "Hill Burying Place", was laid out near the northwest end of the long gravel ridge that sheltered the rude houses of the first settlers when they first came to Concord. At its east end, the first small meetinghouse was built, probably near the top of the hill. For many years, all burials are said to have been done here on the hill. According to one tradition, the very first area used was actually to the east of the present bounds, although no trace of it has been found. In any case, the earliest graves were either unmarked, or had wooden or simple stone markers that have since disappeared. The earliest marked grave here is that of Joseph Meriam, who died in 1677 at age 47. There are approximately 500 headstones with the earliest (marked) death date of 1677, the latest is 1854.
