I brought in a $500 pair of shoes to get the strap altered. The man working made a lot of snarky comments. Some of the comments being "Do you understand how physics works." And " there's no point to alter the strap because your foot will slide." When I handed over the shoe, they were still strapped together. I had offered to help him undo the strap, and he decided to look at me and go "What" with a rude demeanor. He then punched a hole into the strap, not listening to where I wanted. When he handed it back to me to try it on for sizing. I realized that it wouldn't slide anymore because he ripped the inside of the strap. I handed it back to him so he could fix it and instead he decided to cut it more and add another hole. The right shoe now has more holes than the left. When me and my mom were talking he kept saying that the right shoe would need another hole and decided to just punch it in without my knowledge. I didn't think he would do something without my okay, but that was furthest from the truth. He not only didn't apologize for the damages he caused. The whole time that I was in there he seemed very inconvenienced and it felt very rushed. I could tell he just wanted to do it as fast as possible so we would leave him alone. He could have told us that he didn't have time and to either make an appointment or come back later. I am happy I wasn't charged, but he caused damages that I will never be able to fix without having to redo the whole strap. I wouldn't be able to buy this shoe again because they no longer make them. Although the damage may be small to the inside it was more the fact he wasn't kind from the beginning and I never got an apology from his mistakes. I understand that he has done this for a long time and knows what he is talking about however he took what I said and completely disregarded it and chose to do whatever he wanted. read more

They explained what was wrong with the shoes beyond the obvious, listened to me when I asked for a quiet step and treads for outdoor walking, and provided me a reasonable list of options to fit those needs. This place is awesome! They do an awesome job repairing shoes. Work I needed done included new insoles (twice), and gluing (thrice). In all cases work was done to the highest standard, and one of the insoles was even better than came with the shoe in the first place. What is really spectacular, is that I once gave a pair of shoes for repair, and paid $12 up front. When I got it back there was $6 in the shoe. I said very uncertainly "Change?" YES! He had gotten the insoles for cheaper than he expected, so he gave me the difference. He could have never done this, and I would never even know. Customer service at its finest. Yes, nothing has changed, this place is still great and he has a lady working in there with him now. Hmm.. a lady cobbler, I like it. I brought in a leather purse, and two boots. I needed the purse fixed because I had used it non stop this year and it was starting to fall apart at the seams. Well not anymore, it is all fixed. I also needed the soles of my boots replaced, it is now as good as new. The other boots just needed a good polishing. The back of the heels of the boots, were always rubbing on the floor mats in my car, while I was driving and had left scuff marks that I couldn't get rid off myself. The scuff marks are gone now, like they were never there. Most recently I brought in some too tight heels, to be stretched and they too were done to satisfaction. This week, I dropped off two more pairs of boots (I know, I have a boot problem. I will work out that issue eventually). I will update, this update again...later. read more

Had a pair of boots repaired here. Soles fixed, grommet replaced and some new laces. Work was done very well, and quickly. Boots were ready for pickup within 2 days of my dropping them off, and the price was extremely reasonable. Owner was also very nice. I brought in a leather sandal that had a broken piece of elastic along the back of the heel. Without it the shoe was too loose to wear. After a few days he replaced the elastic, but he sewed the shoe back together with a different color thread (white instead of beige) and the stitching is all over the place. It looks nothing like the original. He also folded the leather incorrectly before sewing, so it doesn't lay smooth anymore. It causes these sharp edges to poke into the back of my ankle. In the end it doesn't matter because he made the elastic too loose and I still can't wear the shoe anyways. read more

This is a great place with a hard-working and knowledgeable staff. I needed new heels for my dress shoes and the price was a very reasonable $27, including 2 pairs of laces. They were also able to accommodate the fact that I don't wear leather by using rubber, instead of their typical leather. The quality was better than new and freshly shined. I was well into my 20s when it occurred to me that shoes could be repaired rather than tossed when they got wobbly or the leather was torn. That said, I am pretty tough on shoes and so I was thrilled to find this place in downtown Salem, not far from my office. I've made three trips there with a total of six items and have not been disappointed in the quality of their work. In fact, the shoes I brought in wound up being more comfortable because of the rubber heel tips he used to replace the original plastic ones that wore down. He also repaired a favorite designer purse, re-inserting a broken strap in a way that was pretty much undetectable. Very disappointed. I wanted a pair of leather-soled shoes re-soled. I've had this done several times before. The soles were only glued on - not stitched as has always been done before. New soles started coming off after I'd worn the shoes about five times. Very poor quality work, very poor value. read more
