Cheeseburger and beef fat fried potatoes

I stopped into the Old Salt for a cheeseburger and beef fat fried potatoes. Hit the spot! The burger had onion, pickles, special sauce. Cooked perfectly. Potatoes can come with your choice of sauce. Go with the ranch! Super quick for my order to come out and it's in the Gold Bar. Perfect with a cold Coors Banquet.

Fresh fresh ingredients!!! This place shares a space with the bar next door. So don't be surprised by the set up. They have some tables squished between the bar and their order counter. Feel free to grab a drink at the bar. And it appears it's no issue to bring your drinks to the patio. Just be a good person and bring your glasses back. Anyways back to the amazing food. Looks like some of the ingredients are locally sourced. The cheeseburger was superb, but a reminder these are thinner burgers. So someone wanting a hearty burger should get a double. The single was enough for me. I also got the salad and it was delicious. I haven't had such fresh lettuce in a while - wow! And the cauliflower and slice root vegetable was fabulous. Oh and crispy chickpeas with a lightly tossed dressing - reminded me of the yummy German salads I would get. This salad really had that crunch. So good! Yeah the prices may be a little more expensive than some of the other cuisines in the area, but it seems on par with inflation everywhere. Oh and kids are welcomed with being in close proximity to the bar, I just didn't see any changing stations. Street parking is free after 5 pm and I believe weekends too. Patio seems to fill up fast on warm days.

Whether at Old Salt or at home, the taste and quality of locally sourced meat is always on point; and the staff is always friendly. The burgers and potatoes are a favorite of the two hungry teenagers at the house.

Very simple burger joint specializing in all things Montana beef. Definitely worth a try. Don't expect a fancy burger. It's a pretty basic burger but the beef speaks for itself. Friendly staff. Casual environment.

First of all, we are big fans of anyone who uses only Montana beef in their restaurant. We tried this place for that reason alone. The burgers are relatively straight-forward, but tasty. The potatoes are different, but in a good way. I would not recommend the green ranch dressing though. Ketchup will do very well. You order at the counter, and they bring you the food. Service was pleasant and the historic bar (open since 1907) clean. Recommend for a straight-forward lunch.

Hands down one of the best burgers I've ever had! Try the beef potatoes for something different. I'll definitely be back when I'm in town

Once I saw it on the menu I had to get the GIGANTIC PRETZEL (GP). It was gigantic and it was a pretzel. Great crispy outside and soft warm perfectly cooked inside. Get it, you won't regret it. We all loved it and the queso and hot mustard were a great match. I had the wings, buffalo sauce, and it came with fries. Both were really good. So much food I only ate 4 wings and 1/2 the fries. GP still weighing heavy in my gullet! The Wife had the Classic Mac and Cheese - nice taste but Luke warm instead of hot. Should have sent back to warm up. Her choice. The Kid had the brisket sandwich and garlic parm fries. The sandwich was so big., she ate 1/2 and hardly touched her fries. The fries were delish, as I had to sample a couple for review purposes. The Friend had a Buffalo chicken salad and The Other Friend had enchiladas. Both enjoyed their meals and had leftovers as the servings are generous. Great Time. Great Food. Great Service. Go! Eat Very Well!! HAVE FUN!!!

I got my craft beer in record time, and order shortly after, the waitresses were very friendly and helpful but let you take your time and enjoy the experience! My wings were Excellent, great homemade sauce with wings on a bed of fries, which caught up the dripping sauce and made a wonderful meal, paired with a salad, this was a memorable and delicious little place to relax and enjoy historic Helena and Last Chance Gulch! Do try this place if you get the Last Chance!

We ordered the bacon cheeseburger and the Porkie, fully prepared to deliver a measured, perhaps mildly approving critique. Instead, we were met with burgers that were... excellent. The bacon cheeseburger was rich and properly constructed, while the Porkie bordered on indulgent in a way that felt almost excessive, and yet, impossible to fault. Against our better judgment, these may be the best burgers we've had in Helena. The fries and onion rings arrived as they so rarely do elsewhere: hot, crisp, and audibly crunchy. No soggy apologies. No half-hearted effort. Just competence, executed with precision. And then, the huckleberry milkshake. A problem, frankly. Smooth, flavorful, perfectly balanced--it undermines any attempt at restraint and lingers in one's memory longer than is strictly reasonable. We are not in the habit of offering praise so freely. It sets a dangerous precedent. And yet, here we are. We will return. Not because we are easily impressed--but because, on occasion, it is worth revisiting something that insists on being this good.

I wish I was more hungry when I walked in cause I really wanted to try their "Holy Cow" style meals but could only go with the standard serving size. I ended up going with the chicken sandwich. The chicken was fried perfectly on the outside and the inside was tender and had good flavor. The fries here were very good and I would've kept ordering more of those if I had any more room. The food here is really great. It feels like the best diner food imaginable in a setting that offers so much more. The restaurant reminded me of a bigger chain but with the hometown feel. Big but cozy and personable. Our server was great and always made sure our drinks were full the whole meal. I'll be sure to come back here the next time we visit Helena.
