Many Steffano's pizzas have been baked in my home oven over the last 40 odd years. In that entire time frame I have never tried their their sandwiches and I don't think it was until just now, looking at some other Yelp reviews, that I realized Steffano's offered ribs. Why someone from LA would order ribs at a take and bake pizza and sub shop... Anyways this is a review of Steffano's pizza, not Yelper's who make poor life choices. Steffano's opened up sometime in the early 1980s, I don't think anything has changed since. This is what I call "old style" pizza. Simple ingredients, simple method, time tested and true to itself. You won't find a spinach and chicken with pesto base and balsamic vinegar drizzle here. And that is perfectly fine, set your expectations appropriately and you won't be disappointed. These pizzas are made fresh when you order them, then you run it home and toss it in the oven to be enjoyed with your friends and family. Staff is friendly and helpful, service is quick, and everything is consistent. I have a hard time asking for anything more from Steffano's. It's a great local gem that is embraced by the locals. If your airbnb has an oven, save some cash by getting a quality pizza from a local business. I really need to try their sandwiches, they look great, I hear good things, but whenever I walk in my stomach starts wanting pizza. read more

Absolutely horrible customer service... Completely dead in there for employees walk by me at the counter and said nothing and continue to either take calls clean things or have conversations with each other some of the customers eating even made comments about how rude it was and I still was very patient and finally just had to leave I was really looking forward to eating there but I guess they have enough business to where they don't need to treat people well anymore read more

The best sub sandwiches around!! They have been around for at least forty years. I always pick up a 1/4 sub with roast beef and provolone and cheddar with lettuce, mayo, tomato and oil and vinegar dressing. I highly recommend. read more

We decided to try them for a sub sandwich and couldn't be happier. Not only was the food great but we got wonderful service and got to spend time in a place with a cool vibe. I really wanted to like this place. It has a cute retro atmosphere but the food was TERRIBLE. We ordered ribs, quarter horseradish cheese sandwich and a half cheese steak sandwich with a side of potato salad and beans. Ribs tasted so bad they were inedible. Cheese steak sandwich had no flavor. Beans were cold in the center of the cup. The potato salad was runny and the cheese sandwich was pitiful. It had a little sliver of cheese, tomato and barely any lettuce. I also ordered an m&m cookie but was given regular chocolate chip. U-Bake. I didn't notice this until we got inside; I was just hungry for pizza. Being tourists, we didn't have a home nor an oven to take the U-Bake pizza to, so our craving for pizza was dashed. But, we're a family who also loves sub sandwiches, so the day was saved, right? Wrong. The sub sandwiches were just okay, and the man serving us (one of the owners, I assume) had a friendly smile and demeanor. But the mature woman working behind the counter? You ever heard the term "sucking on lemons?" Yeah, like that. Not friendly. And the root beer fountain drink? Tasted more like club soda. The interior was drab and depressing. I like to support local, family-run businesses, but really, this was edible, and nothing more. Some friendliness and even a fake smile from the woman behind the counter would have bumped my rating up a star. read more

Place has been around forever. Staff is great. They've employed many a high schoolers over the years. 1990's and early 2000's are back in vogue so the decor is perfect. This place is not bad when it comes to food if they get your order right. Problem is your order will often be wrong if you call ahead to pick it up or order online- that requires going in for accuracy or sticking around to open your take out order before you leave. Problem is the place is full of maskless mouth breathers packed to the gills guffawing all over each other. I get businesses are struggling but this combined with the poor health inspection ratings? Whenever I make it to helena I make a trip to Steffano's. They offer a bake at home pizza, but I always get the same two things, steak sandwich and pizza roll up. The best way I can explain the roll up is a pizza burrito. You select your base sauce (beef or sausage) and then all the pizza toppings you want. Something about it is magical to me. For the money, they offer huge subs. Bread is fresh and tasty. The build-your-own sub option gives you an experience similar to that of subway, but the sub tastes much better, and they don't skimp on any of the ingredients that you choose. We also got the breadsticks, which were soft, with a marinara that tasted like ragu. Good value. read more

Don't let this gem slip through your fingers, their subs are AMAZING. I enjoyed the classic roast beef and added some Swiss cheese with all the regular fixins and it was truly delicious. My boyfriend had a Pastrana sub, also with all the toppings, and it was so flavorful. We both inhaled our subs before I could get a picture but we got the mid size option and they were NOT SKIMPY. Their meat if sliced thin and perfectly tender, their veggies were fresh, their bread was soft but held up to all the stuffing and we will 100% be back. They seem like a very friendly, customer conscious, family run business- I'd also like to mention that with CVD19 concerns; the cleanliness of the seating area/soda bar was impeccable. The sub sandwiches were okay. I would prefer to have Subway sandwiches. The man who took our orders was very friendly.

It's a fine sub shop but I find the price a little high for what you get. No chips or side with your meal. No toaster to make your sandwich toasty warm. They do have a few warm subs. The subs are okay. Definitely better than Subway. Have the Philadelphia Cheese steak. The service is fast, food is fresh. Not impressed that they charge extra for hot peppers. As for the decor, it looks like it has not changed since the 70's. They have a Pepsi product motif. I think the place needs to be updated. Nice for a local place. Subs are great, but the "special sauce" is terrible so I go without it. Service is probably the best in town in a sub shop.

Sub wise, Steffano's is your basic, classic, local, old-school sub shop. Nothing fancy, but it is clean, quick, satisfying, convenient, and friendly, with the kind of service that is sorely lacking in Helena. It is also wonderfully lacking in the "Subway funk-smell" (that I never noticed before someone mentioned it to me) which I now have a hard time getting around. read more

Friendly and casual, with a cute old-timey atmosphere. The subs are fantastic, I recommend getting them served warm so that the bread is cloud soft. The only thing keeping Steffano's from getting a 5-star review is that their mushrooms are canned instead of fresh so they have a bit of a pickled taste. Absolutely delicious! Much better than subway or Jimmie johns! I recommend getting everything on your sub sandwich (turkey and cheddar is my personal favorite!) and you only need a "half" sandwich- it's about 8 inches long! The bbq doesn't taste like it use too and you can get better nachos at the gas station. The subs are decent but if your after sandwiches you should go across the street. The pizza is way better than little cezers and won't give you the shits. I hope the BBQ returns to its former glory. At least the ever changing crew is always polite and the owner is always working circles around the kids. I have a lot of respect for that guy. Food business is hard and he's always there. read more

Great subs and pizza. I will say though that unless the older gentleman is working you will have to make sure your sub is made as you ordered it. I think 4 times in the past few months the younger staff have messed up my sub. Wouldn't be a problem if it didn't cost me 17 dollars for it.
