Hi Dive is one of those places we kept walking by and finally decided to stop into and I'm so glad we did. Being new to the area, it's also right across the street from our temporary housing, so it felt long overdue. We stopped in on a Saturday night and the vibe was immediately great. Super relaxed, fun, and easygoing. It honestly looked like Christmas threw up inside, which I absolutely loved. All the decorations made the place feel festive, cozy, and full of character. The two waitresses working that night were amazing. They were clearly working their asses off but still stayed friendly, welcoming, and on top of everything. You could tell they knew how to hustle while keeping the energy positive, which really made the night better. They had a fun variety of holiday drinks along with plenty of non-holiday options. Drinks were solid, food was good, and everything came out smoothly even with the crowd. Hi Dive checks all the boxes great vibe, awesome staff, festive atmosphere, and solid food and drinks. it took me a while to write this because we are bay area locals and we have actually been coming here for years, but after our last experience it's safe to say we will never be back. while there, my partners drink was stolen and when he tried to talk to the guy who did it, in the process of standing up, he knocked over his chair. we had no prior alcohol in our system and sure my partner was loud(he has conductive hearing loss). instead of being helpful with the situation we ended up getting kicked out by some older white woman bar tender who seemed to be on a power trip. she didn't ask us what happened she didn't see if we needed help she just said "it's time for you to get out". she treated us horribly and tossed a drink at my partner and said "get out" again. maybe she was racist? maybe she was angry about her own life? maybe having a bad day? any way, it was no way to treat once-loyal customers. she was quite frankly very rude and i would never give my money to a place that treats me or anyone i love like that. do better hi dive before you fall off the deep end. read more

We were quickly sat on the patio, the food came out hot, and the service was solid. Just what you'd expect from a standard dive bar/restaurant. I saw a Fraperol Spritz (a slushee aperol spritz) on the menu, which looked delicious and refreshing. Will definitely try that next time! read more

OMG, this is like the 5th time we've come here, and we stop by every single time we come to a Giants game. The bartenders are always the same. Ashley and the other bartender they are seriously some of the most welcoming people ever. We had just been at another spot nearby where we honestly felt like we were bothering them asking for service, but the second we walked in here the vibe completely changed. The ambiance is super hype, and they're always packed for one simple reason: the staff makes people want to come back. The food is good, but honestly the bartenders are what make this place stand out. They're insanely busy, yet somehow they remember multiple orders and still keep the energy up. Giving this place another try, I went with their F-Line Burger this time. It came with a 6.5-oz beef patty on a sesame seed bun with cheddar cheese, bacon, caramelized onions, BBQ sauce, plus lettuce, tomato, pickle, and raw onion. I have to say, the burger was much better than their salad. I ordered the beef medium-rare and it was cooked exactly to my liking. The caramelized onions paired really well with the BBQ sauce, and I especially liked that the bun seemed to be lightly pan-fried, giving it a bit of crispiness. Overall, I thought it was quite delicious. I substituted the fries for a side of coleslaw, which was... let's just say not very traditional. It was noticeably pinker than most coleslaws, giving off a strong ketchup vibe. Still, it was acceptable, and I was happy that they accommodated my request. On a nice sunny day, Hi Dive is a great place to hang out, especially if you can find a seat outside. Hi-Dive has a history that dates back to 1935. It started as a small wood-framed bar and restaurant. For many years, it was known as Boondocks and was a popular dive bar for locals and tourists alike. As the area around Pier 28 1/2 was restored, more businesses and residents moved in. Hi Dive adapted to these changes and became a bright, cozy place with a relaxed atmosphere and great views of the San Francisco Bay and the Bay Bridge. Its location near Oracle Park, the San Francisco Giants home, makes it a popular stop during baseball season. People also visit year-round for its affordable menu. Personally, I've never had a full meal there, but I can vouch for their garlic and potato fries--they are delicious! On the day my friend visited, we met at Hi Dive for a beer and shared an order of garlic fries before heading out for dinner. The two ladies serving the large crowd outside on the patio were very professional and friendly. As always, we had a pleasant experience. A pretty good pre-gaming spot to hit up before a ballgame or an event at PacBell Park (i'm never gonna vibe with that 'Oracle' moniker) with a decent selection of beers and an above average food menu that includes local standards and bar favorites. it gets incredibly busy and bustlin' on game days for obvious reasons and the ambiance and ambient noise can get all ruckus but you're not coming here for a book club atmosphere. it's just a short walk away from one of the best baseball ball parks in the country and in between 2 Muni light rail stops...because vehicle parking around the area is ridiculously expensive and taking public transit is better than dealing with the traffic on weekdays. read more

This review is only for the service and space. Space - with a parking spot next door and a view of the bridge, this place is a good option for your party needs. Not to mention there's an outdoor patio for larger parties but if it's not reserved, perfect space for chilling outside with a nice brewski. Service - Pat was awesome. After a long work week I felt the need to get out for a walk. Nearby is Hi Dive on the Embarcadero at Bryant St. Usually busy on any given day, and especially on Giants game day. It was a late afternoon on Friday (non game day). As I walked in, I was warmly greeted by the bartender. And my server - Kelly - I remembered from previous visits. Always super friendly and attentive. On this visit I ordered a Vodka Cranberry and the Chicken Wings. Super tasty with some kick. The atmosphere was super chill. Meant to get this review done earlier when I still had the receipt in hand.. going off memory now from Oct. 2023 Fleet week. Took a homeschool day to tour the USS John P Murtha during the week since we would miss the air show this year. (Great time - different review!) We parked in a lot right next to the ship which just happens to be right next to Hi Dive as well. Anywhere else we wanted to dine was another drive and didn't want to pay for more parking. My kiddos were a bit as they say "sus" because it did look like a "Dive" at first. However, the waitress saw us using our phones to look up the menu and told us to come on in and pick a seat, they would be open in 10 min. She was awesome.. super friendly, very hip (is that still a word? LOL). Very attentive until things started to pick up so when we needed anything after our food was delivered we had to find her or get it ourselves (water, napkins).. She was the only server and the ambiance was cool, especially with the ship we just visited in the background! Yes, it's overpriced, but it's San Francisco, on the waterfront. So, I'm not going to get too upset on that. I expected it as even on the other side of the bay isn the valley, it's the same way. However, the food was just ok. I ordered the Beyond Burger.. happy they offered. The boys had a cheeseburger and a chicken sandwich. They both said they were good, but nothing better than other places (and then they mentioned a few other places they'd rather eat at) Fries were plentiful and pretty good, had some nice seasoning and were not soggy. We all had sodas, no alcoholic beverages as "teacher" on the trip.. again, I don't have the receipt handy, it was something like $86 for 3 of us. Would I seek this place out? No. Would I eat here again? Yes if it was convenient - service was friendly and location is great for ballgames and Fleet week, and probably a few other things. San Francisco, Pier 28 1/2 The Embarcadero August 2022 An "old school" waterfront dive under the San Francisco - Oakland Bay Bridge with a million dollar bay view. Actually, they've only been around since early in this century, though they have an "old school" lease based on sales, not sq footage value, from the Port Of San Francisco. If you're strolling The Embarcadero, especially from Bart to Oracle Park for a Giants game, you might stop in, and never make it to the ballpark. Want to pay ballpark beer prices or would your rather have a $3 PBR? The game will be on tv and you can almost see Oracle Park if you stand outside. Unlike a true dive, the bar and back shelves are clean, and the hard spirit selection is upscale - High West Double Rye and Glenlivet 12 year should give you an indication. But yes, you can get a Sex On The Beach rocks and a PBR. One of the multiple owners will always be around, and they're friendly to strangers. I was fortunate to find co-owner Ashley Freiburger behind the bar. Not only are her pours generous, but she's got good stories too. A delightful surprise on the embarcadero! Surprisingly, few things are open on a Sunday before 11:30 where we are. As we walk around, killing time for a lunch spot to open, we went into hi dive! Right on the water, it's got a great view and it's deceptively spacious. A little dark inside, but the staff completely lit this spot up. From the festive Christmas decor and themed drinks, I never would have thought to look for holiday cheer here, but it found us all the same. The breakfast smelled amazing (alas we had made a reservation elsewhere) but the mimosas hit the spot. Definitely can't wait to stop back before or after a Giants game next season or even before if we're on a good quest next Sunday morning. read more

Shout out to the server who was the only one there dealing with everyone out on the patio! She was quick, attentive, and did her best with the volume of people that were there. We came by a few weekends ago after our initial plans fell through. Outdoor seating, beer and pub food, we could deal with that for lunch! We had several drinks as well as quesadillas and salad for lunch. The servings are large, the beer and cider came cold, and the atmosphere is friendly. I've had a lot of good times and meals at this place. It is beautifully located and- if not a game day- it's completely doable for lunch or dinner. There's plenty of outdoor seating to take advantage of the lovely view, but I usually stay inside where there are tables and some cushioned seating looking out on the Bay. The food is tasty and portions are reasonable. I love their mozzarella cheese sticks and chips and dip. Their turkey sandwich and burgers are quite delicious. My partner adores their tacos and black bean chili. Needless to say, they have a variety of bar/pub food that is filling, well made, and high quality. This has consistent since the late 2000s. The staff are super nice and always get my order correct (for which I am very grateful), but service can be slow on a rowdy game day or during the after-work drinking rush. read more
