My first visit to Sutter Pub was last March where I enjoyed my first Shepherd's Pie. Unbelievable that I never tried it on trips to the UK or Ireland. It was good. On this recent visit, I ordered the Homemade Corned Beef Hash and along with it being a hearty portion, it was the best I've had. Served with House Potatoes and Scrambled Eggs, it was a tasty and solid Irish breakfast. The server was friendly, helpful and efficient. What more could you ask for? The decor is an eclectic mix of curiosities that will entertain your eyes. The pub great music playlist was a fun mix of newer songs and old favorites. I returned a few nights later for dinner of a Steak Sandwich with a salad and honey mustard dressing. A Stella Artois topped it off. Nice service again too. read more

I've been wanting to come here for a while. The exterior looks pretty cool and their happy hour is pretty good. Step inside and it feels like you're in Britain! They serve a pretty good breakfast and it was busy in the morning with both tourists and locals alike. People were drinking and drinks were flowing at the bar as well as at tables. I liked how there were some older guys eating and reading the newspaper. It felt very traditional. Service was very good and so were their breakfast burritos. Came here for lunch and we got lucky to find seating for three. The staff were very kind when serving and placing our orders it's a pretty small pub with I think four booth and some table tables. There is some outdoor seating. The menu has a wide selection, which is really nice and we started off with an appetizer of wings. These were very good and piping hot when they came to us. I got the Sunnyside burger at medium rare. It was definitely cooked more like rare, which is not how I like it but we were in a rush so I didn't wanna bother waiting to get it redone. I just kinda eat around it. The fries were really yummy. The Reuben was very good. There was no leftovers of it. The fish and chips are also very good and all their food were hot when they were brought out. The portion sizes are very good and the only thing we had left was a piece of fish and one wing Also reasonably priced and we were full even a little bit past dinner. I'll definitely come here good to try other things off their menu. I'll just be more insistent on making the burger, medium rare and not rare. read more

For some reason, I thought Sutter Pub had been around since, like, the Gold Rush or at least before the millennium. I just noticed, however, it's only been twelve years since they opened on the corner of Sutter and Taylor. I guess that's pretty long in SF restaurant years. Anyway, I was walking out of a medical appointment at 450 Sutter. I felt like celebrating since hey, I survived another day. Actually my idea of celebrating at 9:30AM was to go out for breakfast, so why not Sutter Pub since it opens at 8AM daily? The place was nearly empty when I arrived. When I was handed the menu, I zeroed in on the $21 Corned Beef Hash because I rarely have it at my advanced age, and if I do, it usually comes out of a can. But I'm happy to report they serve real corned beef with diced potatoes, scallions, herbs, and chopped onions. Two sunnyside-up eggs with runny yolks were on top accompanied by sourdough toast. Sutter St Pub is one of those neighborhood spots that always hits the mark. This time I had the jalapeño burger and garlic fries, and both were excellent--the burger was juicy with just the right amount of heat, and the garlic fries were crispy, flavorful, and hard to stop eating. I've also been here before and tried the shepherd's pie, which was hearty, comforting, and clearly made with care. Walked in here on a random Thursday afternoon for a bite to eat. It's small inside, but we were seated immediately by the window. Service was super quick, staff was very friendly. I wasn't a fan of Soju... had a screwdriver with soju. I wish they had actual liquor here. Decent selection of pints on tap with a decent happy hour. The first time I had the fish and chips, I was really impressed. Perfectly crispy golden brown exterior and flaky fresh fish on the inside. I work right nearby so I've been to this place several times. Breakfast, lunch and dinner options. I don't drink, but plenty of bar space. TV's on. A place that gets some business from foot traffic and probably not the quality of its food. Has some legitimate British options considering it is a sort British themed bar (not that I know the first thing about Great Britain). I've had the burger, omelette, pancakes, seared tuna salad, and some other things. They all have one thing in common... very aggressively decent. Not going to call it bad. Not going to call it good. I have visited 3 times now and am ready to give my review. Personally, I love a great burger. The first time I came here about 5-6 weeks ago, I got the burger and it was amazing. It was during the lunch hour so not too busy in a pub. The second time I came, I swung by for dinner about 3 weeks back. It was a little busier. Ordered the burger again. I order my burgers medium rare. 1st time it was spot on. The 2nd time... it was raw in the middle. I didn't finish it nor said anything that night. Went home and made a sandwich. Tonight was the 3rd time. My hope was that the Pub would give me the same quality as my first visit. This time, to be safe, I ordered Medium. which means a small sliver in pink in the middle....well, it was raw again. I actually took my butter knife and took apart the patty to see the raw hamburger meat. :( Told the waitress who was very nice. She offered to have them make me another, but I did not want to wait another 20ish minutes on the chance that it might be right...or like in the movie Waiting, maybe they mess with my food :/ She gave me $6.00 off my total for the inedible burger. I should maybe have paid only $6.oo for that meal since I only ate the fries. Oh well. This place is off my list now, which is sad because it is so close to me. We stopped here for a quick early lunch because we were in the neighborhood. It is a small corner pub with a warm atmosphere and friendly staff. I ended up having the eggs Benedict with a fruit cup. The eggs were fantastic, as good as a fancy restaurant, and the detail and time they put into creating the beautiful fruit cup was nothing short of amazing. The apples and strawberries were sliced so thin and shaped into a curve held together with a toothpick. I'd have to say the chef or owner have high expectations for the presentation of the meals. Food/drinks. (4/5). While my husband prefers dark, chocolatey beers, the only menu choice that approximated thus was a Guinness. I prefer wine and ordered a Pinot Grigio. Both were as expected. We also ordered the nachos -- a small plate (5" x 5"?) of beautifully presented (see photo) tortilla chips, melted jack and cheddar cheeses, refried pinto beans, sour cream, guacamole, and pico de gallo. We passed on the extra jalapeños. The nachos were tasty and the guacamole and pico de gallo tasted fresh. Ambiance. (4/5). See photo - which was taken after some guests just left and new groups came in. Comfortable London pub feel. Tables fir a few small groups and more for couples. There's also seating at the bar and outdoors. A tv was playing in the background that no one was watching, and music (mostly good!) was playing at a reasonable volume. Service (3/5). Decent. Waitress came over quickly after we self-selected our seats, but wasn't able to easily identify any dark beers on the menu. She checked on us only once after our drinks and appetizer had been delivered -- but didn't return even after we mentioned that we were considering ordering more food. I can't say enough good things about this little local pub and restaurant. I've been 3 times in the last month. O.K., I'm working @ the SF Playhouse, Sunday Matinee and it's perfect timing. Recently had the BBQ Burger w/Cheddar Cheese and onion Ring. It was good, but honestly needed a bit more seasoning but the fries were the best fries I've had in a long time. More recently I had the Happy Hour Nachos and again, de--lish and $11.00. Chips were hot, all were covered in refried beans, cheese and sour cream. I had them put the guacamole, salsa and jalapenos on the side and it worked out perfectly. I had more control this way. Going again in 2 days for the pancakes. If you are in the area and looking for good, plentiful, hot and authentic American food and pub food, you must stop in. Service is excellent and the gals are so nice. We have come here on during our last few visits to San Francisco. One reason is that it is close to where we stay so very easy. The food here over the last few years has remained really good, we have had breakfast and lunch items and have been happy with both. I would not say this is destination dinning but a really solid option if staying or working in this area. My only complaint is they don't serve hard liquor so a bloody mary or any of the other cocktails are not really what you would expect. its some kind of rice wine that is used (must not count as liquor) I would just avoid having those kind of drinks at this place unless you like that substitution. read more
