A very sleek and modern coffee shop! Coffee is pricey ($6.50-$7.50 for a cold brew). But it is super strong and tasty - way better quality than Dunkin'. They have a limited food menu - various scones and banana bread. The scones are actually incredible - so moist, and not hard or crumbly. We tried the chocolate chip and apple cinnamon and loved. My parents live nearby and when I visit them this is a great option for a caffeine fix. read more

This place is so cozy and inviting. They have a big open seating table upfront and then individual tables in the back. It was pretty busy when we arrived but got the chairs by the fireplace. The wait time can be a bit long if it's busy but they go as fast as they can. The chicken salad is well made and delicious. The matcha was decent. Next time I'll have to try it with one of their homemade syrups. We keep on coming back for their loaves of bread, the GF ones! read more

The atmosphere here is quite beautiful. They have a fireplace with seating in front that gives a very cozy feeling and overall it's not very busy so the atmosphere is more on the quiet side, which I prefer. The issue I have with this place for me the coffee is just OK. I wasn't wowed by the flavor and I thought it to be quite bland. I was expecting the body of the milk to be more creamy where I felt it to be quite light and the coffee flavor itself was mild. The cinnamon wasn't overpowering, but I didn't get any taste of honey. As for service they were very polite and super respectful. I ended up having an issue with my drink and in return, they did choose to remake it. Given the fact that at the current moment, I'm only drinking decaf. I will note the to go coffee after being remade was much better than what you see in the picture. Overall, I definitely would give this place a try again. The atmosphere is super nice and I'm assuming that there maybe some learning curve for the coffee. read more

Beautiful, cozy space with ample seating. Offering a variety of freshly baked pastries, toasts, & house made spreads/latte syrups. The cold brew was delightfully bold yet smooth--one of the best I've had. The mixed berry scone was a little tart, could use some added sweetness. Hoping to try more flavors. The owner is very knowledgeable and ensures the highest quality ingredients are used. Many gluten free options. All this leading to a little higher than average prices, but to be expected for boutique coffee shops these days. Overall a great new addition right off Route 33. read more

I've been eagerly awaiting Old Soul's opening since I spotted the sign one day. After finding out in their instagram stories that they were open, I came on a Monday morning, June 30th around 8am. The windows are dark so it was hard to tell if they were open but I was greeted warmly after opening the door. The place looks like it took a lot of thought and consideration. There are plenty of seats and table, and a few cushioned seats if you'd like to be cozy and stay and read a book like I did. From the tables, to the lighting and the dish ware, there was a lot of care in their selections. I ordered a flat white, with almond milk. A regular flat white here is priced at $5.75, which is quite high, even for speciality coffee shops. Choosing almond milk and after tax, my coffee came out to be $7.20. My order took a while to come out, which they apologized for. I could see the two baristas at the bar struggling with my order. The first barista dumped what appeared to be a lot of foam into the espresso. After seeing him struggle, the other barista told him she would make it again. I appreciated the fact that they tried to make it better. She brought it to my table, with the apology for the belatedness and for the lack of latte art, which is more difficult to steam. Alternative milks are a bit more tricky. First appearances, there was thick layer of foam, which shouldn't be the case in a flat white. I tried it, and the espresso was watery, and the milk was definitely not steamed correctly, there was nothing creamy about my drink. I kept trying to drink it, with the thought that I had paid so much for it but after a few sips and the milk started separating, I gave up. A lot of effort seems to have gone into opening this cafe, but not so much into the training of their baristas. From overhearing their conversation, they seemed to be right out of high school and this was their first barista job. Their boss was absent, they had stepped out for a bit, so I didn't want to confront two inexperienced teens of my dissatisfaction. But I think leaving two inexperienced employees on their own was a lapse in judgment. At a specialty coffee shop, especially at this price point, one should expect the product that they are paying for, to match. read more

I've been anticipating this spot for a while. They've worked tirelessly to open it and so much thought has gone into it -- from the design & aesthetics of the place, to the coffee & pastries they serve. Everyone who walks in the door is greeted and every worker has been trained to be thoroughly knowledgeable on what is being served. The owners are often there and are a husband and wife power duo who bake the pastries themselves and ensure the coffee is on point. I particularly love the flat white, drip coffee, chocolate chip scone & their pumpkin bread (seriously I need more of this pumpkin bread ASAP!) Please understand this spot is a less than one month old. They have poured their heart and soul into mastering this and I can see their passion in every aspect. Manalapan needed a good coffee place, where people can gather and enjoy & where the owners have a hand in the running of the cafe. I've been passing this forever and I've been really looking forward to them opening. The coffee shop is at the bottom of what looks like a nice apartment complex with many stores empty that I'm sure will be filled in the future. It was hard to tell if they were open at first, because it was just so dark from the outside. I walked in and the space was really nice- clean and modern and very well decorated. Also there was plenty of seating for people to hang out. I went up to the register, and I'm assuming it was the owner or manager who came up to me and walked me through the menu, which was really nice and informative. I ended up getting an iced caramel latte with oat milk which I really enjoyed. It came out fairly quickly which was good. Only thing is the cost- my coffer was almost $11, which is crazy to me. I always visit new coffee shops. I love a specialty coffee, and I am willing to pay more money for quality things, but unfortunately, I don't think this is something that I can get on the regular. It's just a little too expensive. Out of all the coffee shops in New Jersey that I visited so far, this was the most expensive. I think this place will do very well because there is nothing like it in the area. They charge for the syrup and the oat milk, which was at least an extra $2. my coffee was sour and tangy, and a mind-blowing 10 dollars. i got a basic iced almond milk latte, with vanilla. not sure what happened with the taste, but this is the second time i've had a disappointing latte. could not taste the syrup over the acidity of the coffee. the service was quick and they were very friendly, and the ambiance was very great. two stars for that!! but my drink was not the vibe. read more

Old Soul was highly anticipated when they were building out the store since there really isn't a great upscale coffee shop in the area to provide a better option than Wawa, QC, Dunkin, etc. Well they exceeded all expectations by building a beautiful store, with a very chill atmosphere, great service, coffee and bakery options that would best any bakery around. If you like dry tasteless scones don't come here - there's are the best I've ever had! And for those complaining about prices - they use top level ingredients for all their coffee and baking. Insulting. $9.50 for a smaller than average latte. served lukewarm where they insist it's served "to drink," as if all other coffee isn't. They claim all other milk is overcooked and burnt. Ordered what looked like a muffin too w cheddar and a latte and that were $19.00. I declined the muffin top and the girl looked affronted, which should be quite the opposite. The owner had to delete or bc the girl didn't know how and I questioned him about the price and he said it sounded a lot. He then doubled down bc of tax and it being organic . I want to preface this by saying the owner was really sweet & i hope this place does well because at the end of the day, this part of central NJ DESPERATELY needs more small businesses and more variety in general. the scones are SO GOOD!!! however, their matcha needs a heavier pour (as in, more matcha, not more water). its basically just a cup of milk. also, i'm not sure if the baristas are instructed to use only a certain amount of syrup since there is an up charge for it, but i never taste the flavoring. ultimately, my drink has consistently lacked matcha & lacked syrup, which made it just a cup of light green milk. don't get me wrong, its not bad, but it could be much better. thats why i'm going with 3 stars for now. all in all, the prices are pricey, the scones are next level, matcha is mid, and ambiance is good enough! i'll deff be back. read more
