They got the car in right away, gave her a test drive, diagnosed the problem as needing a tire balance, gave me a quote, and then fixed it when I agreed. On March 12th, I was trying to go to VA to surprise my dad for his birthday. Unfortunately, due to car trouble, so I thought, prevented me from getting on the road. A loud noise started the day before and proceeded to get louder on the day of my travels. I called John to get it checked out, but shortly after getting air put into my tires (elsewhere), the sound stopped. So, informing John, we thought the problem was resolved, until I proceeded a short distance on the beltway. The sound came back louder. Long story short, God allowed me to get to John and Justin at Old Town Auto Works on Reynolda Road, Winston Salem NC. They identified the problem immediately, finding that it was due to my dry rotten tires. One of which was on the verge of exploding. The issue couldn't be seen from the outside of the tire. Justin showed me how the fibers and the rubber had been worn off and practically bursting at the seam on the inside of my passenger tire. After our discussion, I'm thinking they were taking my car to install my spare tire, instead they installed a tire that was a replica tire of my tire from a junk vehicle they had at the shop. After inquiring of the cost, I was told there would be no fee. John and Justin stayed over time to help me, because the shop was officially closed by the time I reached them. By the time everything had registered in my brain of what they were saying to me and what was done, I left shop's parking lot in full fledge "Ugly Cry" mode. LOL!!! God, John and Justin basically saved my life that day. I am sooo grateful, words can not explain!!! This is just one of the many blessing that everyone at this auto shop has done for me and sooo many others! I highly recommend Old Town Auto Works to everyone. Genuinely, amazing service. Mid July in North Carolina is not a time for the AC compressor to die, but ours did. One shop could get us in but we'd be waiting four days. Another shop said six. OTAW got us right in, and we were back on the road in four hours. John was friendly, patient, a great teacher, a real blessing. These guys are great. We use them on my wife's car, and on my previous car (my current one is under warranty, so I'm still using the dealer for any needed repairs.) They will never, ever push unneeded repairs on you, and will simply point out items that should be checked in the future, and how long you can safely wait. On my old Maxima, I had a leak in the power steering system. They inspected it, found a leak in an inexpensive hose, replaced it, and sent me on my way. Much later, a more expensive part failed, and they replaced it. At no time did they ever push for a repair of the expensive parts (pump, rack, etc) Recently, I had done an at home maintenance item, but wasn't 100% positive everything was correct. I went there near the end of the day, when I figured there'd be a mechanic or two that was done with major work, and an open lift. I asked if they would lift my car so we could check underneath. They did, they looked at the item (a drain valve replacement for a drain plug), gave me a wrench to give it another 1/8 turn, and sent me on my way, no charge. read more

After running over a large nail late Monday, I was able to call them and get estimates for 4 new tires the next morning. They ordered my tires for me and I dropped off the car Wednesday morning without an appointment and they took ~1 hr to complete. They were extremely nice and knowledgeable, competitive pricing, and squeezed me in with a lot FULL of other vehicles. I am new to the area and came here based on a family friend's recommendation. I will now be going back for any and all vehicle servicing! read more

This business is terrible. They charged me $200 to fix a broken driver's side electric window. The window broke again within a week of taking it off their lot. I was 9 months pregnant and went into labor before I could take it back. When I did, they attempted to "re-glue" it a few times, and finally told me I needed more parts replaced and they would charge me more $ again for labor. I said I just wanted my money back for the original labor costs ($110) because the window had never been fixed, and I was going to take it to someone I knew. They refused to give it back, and finally 'compromised' by saying if I went out and found/bought the new parts myself, they would be "nice enough to install them no charge", no guarantee the window would work. BS! Taking my hard earned money and not fixing the problem? ...I would take them to small claims if I didn't have a newborn and a job keeping me busy. This place is great! I'm a woman and this is the first and only auto repair place that I feel equally treated. The men who own the place never down talk to me about my car repairs they just simply explain my options. If you schedule an appointment it's honored and they take your car back at that time, imagine that! If they quote you a time for your car maintenance it's exactly that time, again a miracle! Their work is very good and best of all they are genuinely fair and trustworthy individuals. Often I've taken my car wanting something done to it because other places tell me I need it done and here they tell me there's no need to get it done or level with me and say it could really wait. They've saved me hundreds of dollars over the years not just with my car but my husband's as well. If they for some reason can't do the job they'll be honest and let you know and even suggest good options for you to take your car to. It's the only place in Winston Salem I'll take my car to. This place is the bomb! They fellas up there at Old town know just about everything there is to know about cars. They are absolutely professional, very respectful and HONEST. Finding an honest mechanic ain't no small task these days but by George you can trust these guys. I have taken every truck I've owned up there for some minor issues and a few major issues and every time I get it back it's almost good as new. If they could keep a truck running forever I'd never buy another truck. Every town needs an Old Town Auto Works and I'm not just saying that. This is the best repair shop in Winston Salem!!! Mike and Brent are both honest and their customer service is outstanding. Both my daughter's cars were fixed there and my ex-husband will not let anyone else touch his cars but these guys. He was the one who told me to take the cars there. We drop the car off at night and by 7am the next morning they give you a list of what needs to be fixed and the cost, which is so much lower than the dealership's repair costs. They also don't make unnecessary repairs. They tell you the truth and tell you how long you can go before something needs to be done. They are quick too! As I write this review, my oldest daughter's car is being repaired. Dealership wanted her to get her timing belt replaced, they told us that the belt was fine! Saved us a huge amount of money on my youngest daughter's car and I have turned my entire family on to them and they all rave about the place. If you need repairs, this is the place to go!
