Brought in a pair of black leather boots last year. I had spent hundreds on them and messed up the toe..so they needed new soles. I knew going in that the service would be expensive, but already had so much invested in them it was worth it. The owner said it would take 6 weeks, which seemed like a long time but, again, still worth it. He quoted about $150 for the service. Still worth it for quality work. I went in at 6 weeks to pick up the boots and they were still sitting where I left them on the shelf, untouched. He claimed to be really busy and wanted to make sure it was a "quality job", so I agreed and he called me to get them a couple weeks later. When I picked up the boots I noticed the leather soles looked painted (brush strokes, etc.) instead of black leather like we had discussed, but assumed maybe they were stained or coated in something. Within 2 weeks the black paint on the soles had worn off for the most part, and within a month one of the soles was splitting in half entirely. My friend had a leather bag patched up by him, and for $70 he glued an off-colored leather patch on the seam. Find another cobbler, this guy is a hack. read more

Took my shoes for repair. New heals and soles. It is clear that they are craftsmen, and take great pride in their work. My wingtips have been given new life. They pay meticulous attention to detail, and repaired these so that they look new. read more

Overpriced, bad service. I brought in some dress shoes with scuffs, and they charged me $25 to clean, condition, and polish them, which I thought was a bit steep. They made me pay up front, which was weird. When they finally called me a week later to pick them up, the polished shoes were a different, much darker shade of brown than before. I didn't expect that they would be able to get all the scuffs out, so it's fine that they didn't, but they should have at least consulted the customer before putting a darker finish on the shoes. Extremely over-priced. Brought my wingtips in to get resoled and they gave me an estimate of $120. They were only $150 shoes to begin with. I declined and took them somewhere else for $40 and they are good as new. I can't say anything about their quality of work one way or the other, but their prices are ridiculous. read more

just like magic, i posted my review and my boots were suddenly done and ready. maybe it was my post, or maybe it was just FINALLY done, i'll never know. they claim to have tried calling me for weeks to let me know they were ready- i can state for a fact that this is not true. thank goodness they had my husband's phone number and he picked them up since i was so irked. the re-sole and new zipper look good, but NOT worth months of waiting. they will never get my business again. best of luck if you go with this shop. read more

Amazing quality that far surpasses any shoe repair I have ever been to. They also do a wonderful job touching up leather that has peeled up on heels or other areas of the shoe. My only complaint is there is a long wait time, but that's only because they are so busy because they are so great! read more

Came here to have a zipper replaced on one of her leather boots. Got a bid of $50 for one boot from another vendor. Old World Cobbler provided a bid of $45 for one boot or $75 for two. After some discussion, we agreed to a lower price of $65 for two. We went with that option so the zippers would match. Resulting work was completed as promised and appears to be of good quality. We were advised that the work would be completed in 4 weeks. I called at 28 days and was advised it would be ready the next day. A good experience, just be sure to plan ahead for when you'd like to be wearing your repaired footwear. read more

Although I am a firm believer in local businesses and fixing shoes rather than buying new ones, I would not recommend this place. Brought a pair of boots that needed new heel tips and a pair of leather ankle boots that had seen better days. He initially tried to charge me $40 for the boot heels (which is about $30 more than I think is reasonable) and $80 for the ankle boots. I got him down to $20 on the heels, so you can discuss prices with him. You pay in advance, so I suggest you haggle. Dropped them off the week before Christmas and was told b/c of the extensive damage to the ankle boot, it would take 3-4 weeks to fix. I believe it's just the two cobblers, which explains the wait. 5 weeks later, they were not done, and he said he "hoped to get to them" the following week. 8 weeks later, my boot heels were fixed, but my ankle boot was in pieces and he asked if I minded that he would need to use different colors to fix it. It was a very delicate purple/grey color all over, difficult to match I realize, but the only reason I bought the shoe. I told him the heel could be different but the rest of the leather I wanted untouched, despite the condition. A week later, he had it finished, but had dyed the entire shoe red to match the new heel. Craftsmanship was not bad, considering the work, and the owner is pleasant, however I'm very disappointed with the overall experience. Bottom line, if you go here, expect a long turn around, bring cash or check, haggle, call them to check up on items, and keep your expectations low. read more

I dropped off two pairs of shoes to get resoled at the begging of March and was asked to pay in full on the spot. $120 for two pairs of shoes to get resoled they were to be ready in three weeks. I went in there three weeks later to pick them up, Alex ( who is the younger guy that works there) told me that he is having personal issues and that they have been too busy to get to my shoes. I told him that I needed them by April 10th. Well... I went to pick them up on the 10th and my boots were supposed to be resoled were not two different colors! Alex said that he "washed them" and that it wasnt his fault that the color changed. Also said that since they are distressed leather there is nothing that can be done. He then offered to wash them again...which i let him do. Went back today to pick them up and they were still two completely different colors. He did not even apologize to me! I was yelled at and told to "get out of the store" DO NOT BRING YOUR SHOES TO THIS STORE!!!! read more

I took a purse and 2 belts to them . I thought I was going to have to throw the purse away due to a faulty lock but they came up with a workaround using a magnet and saved it. They also cut 2 belts down to fit better. I will also take my husbands leather work shoes to them in the future . I could not be happier with the service and workmanship read more

I have a 30-year-old backpack that I'm attached to. Over the years I took it to various leather shops for patchwork fixes. Recently, when I thought the backpack was done for good, I took it to Old World Cobblers. It took a month to get it back, but Alex, the owner, performed more repairs than I'd expected -- all for the same price. My backpack has a new lease on life -- it's beautiful. These guys know what they're doing and love what they do. Highly recommended. read more

AH! Amazing. Dropped off three pairs of shoes, two pretty scuffed up boots and patent leather pumps. So giddy to see them fixed up to near new condition!! They look amazing after the work Alex did on them. He seems very thorough and careful with his work and it makes me feel like I left the shoes in good hands for the few weeks they were in repair. I miss Alex's dad, he was a better cobbler and honest as well, and did not over charge you! I gave him a pair of rare boots to fix, just needed a heel put on, simple, but when I got them back he had put some sort of varnish on them and darkened the wood of the heel, not happy about his, and also did not put the correct heel on the boots as they were the wrong colored heels and the wrong height, and assuming he darkened the wood on the boots to match the heels he put on, that were of a cheaper quality than that of the original ones which I know are easy to be had! I asked about it and he simply said, to me a person who buys unique shoes "these are better heels than you had"! I was charged 50.00 to put on a 10.00 set of heels! Like I said, I miss his dad, and will NOT be going back to this establishment, and should have went with my gut instinct when I knew somehow he would not do a good job on my boots, and I am certain he split my wooden heels getting the old rubber off, and tried to glue it back on, these are not the type of boots that you use glue on, all nails, but I knew he glued because he forgot to nail in one of the heels, and I had to remind him! I hope this varnish crap he put on wears off eventually, the boots look like shiite now, but it was no use in arguing with a greedy russian, they are notoriously angry and cheats!! I will go to Lee's on Lake street to have them redone properly! read more

really really great work. alex dyed a pair of cream leather oxfords black for me. he changed out the heel to match the black, also. they look fabulous. i really can not get over how great the shoes look! he had to take them apart to dye them correctly and then sew them back together- they look perfect. he is super nice and does fantastic work, very talented. read more
