Walked in and was ignored. Other people who came in were also not spoken to. It looked like they had a mental organization of who is next and just didn't engage in small talk much. That's ok; every place has its own way do doing things. I waited. Noticeably, I was the only person of color in the entire restaurant. Still, I waited because no tables were available and they could see I was there. They made eye contact several times, walked by me several times. Finally, a table was turned over (very very slowly). I anticipated that would be mine since I'd been waiting and no one else was there. While the table was being turned over, another party came in. They were not spoken to either. When done, the woman who had turned over the table greeted them and walked them to the fresh table. She looked at me and turned away. I watched, confused. Someone who appeared to be a manager or owner hopped down off her stool at the bar having seen what happened, spoke to the hostess and asked me if I wanted to sit at the bar. I declined. I had waited and I wanted a table. The woman just turned and walked back to her seat at the bar. No apology (though she saw what happened), no indication of making it right. The hostess appeared annoyed but not apologetic and said nothing. I ended up leaving because the people there made us feel so unwanted - blatantly and boldly so. The food was not good. The french toast was burnt on one side squishy toast without any flavor. The breakfast scramble was uncooked peppers and onions mixed with sausage and a hint of eggs. The grits were decent but barely room temperature. After a 30 minutes wait for food, I was hoping for better but sadly disappointed. 2 wait staff for less than 10 tables and our drinks sat empty for more than half of the time we were there. read more

This is a small town breakfast & lunch restaurant in a the lovely old town of Mount Airy literally 5 minutes from Interstate 70. The food was great and the portions were huge. Yes it's slower than the fast food drive thrus because your order is made from scratch. Real home fries perfectly cooked on a hot griddle is a good test. Best of all was our server Ryley working by herself at 7 AM opening. She never stops moving, has a sharp memory and wouldn't let me find the bottom of my coffee cup. The fast food joints are clustered at the I-70 exit if you're rushing through. You will not be disappointed if invest a few more minutes added to your trip and experience a successful small town restaurant. There aren't many like this any more. We were in Mt Airy to run some errands and decided lunch was in order! So we stopped into the Ole Town restaurant (and Bakery). 1. They had fish and chips - so i was happy. The fish was perfectly prepared and the fries were the coated variety. Not my favorite but i can survive. The tartar sauce was a little thin but overall good flavor. 2. The grilled cheese was pronounced good. It was a long wait and frankly table service was average. The good was well prepared, the service was average. Parking in downtown Mt Airy is always a pain but there are places you can park and walk. Overall it is on the list of places to go to again, but further down the list. read more

Small in-town restaurant. Much better than the chains out by the highway. Was exactly what I was looking for, for breakfast as I was passing through the area. Chipped beef gravy was very tasty over home fries and the portion was plenty. Waitstaff were very busy as there was a brief wait at the door due to the customer traffic and that's always a good sign. Had breakfast here with my husband this morning and what a cute gem we've found. The menu is huge and so are the portions (I couldn't finish more than a fourth of my plate). The prices are so inexpensive for the amount of food you get as well. It's really nice and we will be back for sure. Btw just read reviews about wait times. We went on Tuesday morning around 9am and it was completely empty. More people showed up after us, but if you go on Tue morning there's no wait at all. We stumbled on this place many moons ago and have been locked in since. We live in Sykesville and nothing in Sykesville, Eldersburg or even Ellicott City, comes close to the food quality and down home atomosphere! Friendly staff and did I mention the Biggens potatoes...mmmm! Best French Toast anywhere and when you ask for a side of anything, be it sausage gravy, bacon etc, it is a meal in itself. The food was decent. I enjoyed them, but was the food really worth it from their super super slow service? No. We had to wait to be seated which is fine, but what wasn't fine was getting forever for the server to come to take our order. There were two out in the front. One seemed to be doing everything and another just clean and chat. When I asked if we could give our order now because we were ready- we were told to wait. Before we went, i read through the reviews like always, and summarized to "food is great , but service is not up to par". We had time on hand today and decided to give it a try. & ... yes they were busy. The Place is not big. Very cozy. 2 servers, yup now you see why the the wait can be long. However, everything we ordered came out great and tasty!!! Hence the 5 star. Portions were generous, they did up the price a bit based on previous reviews, which is understandable, all $$$ is going up. We love finding local gems when we travel! We stopped in Mount Airy on our way to Chincoteague last summer and had a late breakfast at Olde Town Restaurant. We did have to wait a while, even to sit at the bar, which just goes to show that this place is well loved by locals (maybe they should consider expanding or adding a second location?). We assumed we would have to wait owing to the size of the place and the fact that it was a weekend. The portions were huge, the prices were fair, and the staff was friendly, in spite of how busy they were. We loved our meal here and are planning to stop again this year on our way to the beach! Don't miss the cute local bookshop near by, and the 100 year old caboose down the street. My kids loved exploring it! read more

My friends and I went to have breakfast at Olde Town Restaurant this morning. They came from out of town and I wanted to give them a good experience of our sweet mount airy town. With two empty tables (not bussed yet), we waited 15 minutes without even being acknowledged. The blonde waitress walked up with a high chair to put back and looked me in the eyes and simply said "move." We drive down to Mount Airy from PA every so often, and found this place on Yelp. It was a bit unfortunate that we chose to stop in on what could only be described as a hectic day. There was only one waitress working the entire dining room and bar - the pandemic was still making things difficult for businesses - but she was very pleasant and got to us as soon as she was able. The food was good - it's been a while so I don't recall what either my wife or I had to eat. We'd certainly not be against trying this place again one of these days when we're there again. read more

Really good food at this place. Went on a Thursday morning around 9:30 and they were slammed. A 20 minute wait for a table and 25 minute wait for the food. One waitress most of the time with help for a bit. Waitress didn't sweat a thing and just kept a good pace and got food out very quickly when it hit the window. Most people were real good about the wait. Chicken and waffles were great and firemans plate was also good.Hefty plates and good price.Seems like a great local spot. read more

What a pleasant surprise tucked away in Mt Airy. We stopped by here for breakfast last week and we loved it. All of our dishes were good which included eggs and scrapple, and large club sandwich and fries, and a special spicy potatoes and sausage breakfast special (delicious)! The coffee is excellent also. The waitress was very pleasant and managed the entire restaurant pretty well. I will be back often when I'm the mood for some breakfast to try some other things! read more

Nice local spot to pick up some breakfast. The staff was great and friendly, some of the locals are bit pushy and rude though. Giz order the biscuit and gravy ( served with eggs and home fries), I had the the Firehouse Breakfast Platter (country fried steak, gravy, eggs, home fries, and a biscuit). We are still trying to get use to the gravy up here. But, they use a sage sausage which made it taste the best so far up here. The country fried steak was golden fried and delicious. The fries were a little under cook, but flavorful. The eggs were eggs. The biscuit was dense, with good buttery flavor. Definitely would go by here again. read more

We were very pleased with this small restaurant in downtown Mount Airy. Our wait was only about 5 minutes on a Saturday around 11:30am. All of the staff were friendly and appeared to work well together to keep things flowing smoothly. My husband had an omelette and I had the handmade fried chicken steak with sausage gravy. Recommendation: If you get the stuffed french toast, ask for the strawberry cream cheese on the side so it's not a hot mess when it gets to you and you can add as much or as little as you want. Don't get the blue berry pancakes. Just don't. We expected the minimum and still got less. We came in last Saturday morning and asked for a table for 2 and was told it would be about 10 minutes. No place to sit outside or sit inside we had to stand in the doorway blocking people coming in. 30 minutes later we got a table. After sitting down for 10 minutes our drink orders were taken and brought back but was not asked if we were ready to order while the menus were no longer opened. I had to call the waitress back over to take our order and then it was another 30 minutes before the food came out. I had ordered the blueberry pancakes and my daughter ordered the strawberry cream cheese stuffed french toast. The blueberry pancakes did not have the blueberries distributed through out. It was more like they had the pancake batter already and then threw the blueberries in the center. The stuffed french toast didn't start from a large piece of bread, cut into the center and then stuffed like other places do. Instead, it was 4 pieces of french toast absolutely loaded with cream cheese and minimal amount of strawberry. So instead of the french toast being the center of the meal, it was the cream cheese that was just a mess and all over the place. read more

SO I went back for seconds and it was even better than the 1st time - they gave of these little apple fritters when we sat down that I have been craving ever since....got the fried chicken again and I cannot tell you how good it was. We love the food and atmosphere in our home town /downtown Restaurant. They deserve a 5 Star rating, but cut back all Evening hours for Dinner which has been a real Bummer for my Wife & I. Though when the Kids visit, we go there for Lynch on Saturday's. On a plus note, they have opened a 2nd Restaurant in nearby New Market, MD, which is open in the evenings, though we haven't visited yet. read more

We really like this restaurant. I found out about this place because we had a meet and greet for a women's motorcycle riders gathering. The staff is very friendly and the food is really good. Because a dirty restaurant is a turn off for me, I always noticed cleanliness. It passed the test. I took my husband and we ate breakfast, the banana pancakes are great and he likes their corned beef hash and egg. On another day, my son and I had the fish and chips and my husband had the chili and burger for lunch. We have been happy with the food and service. Our family stopped in this morning after a trip to the orthodontist. We had heard rave reviews and we weren't disappointed. Located on Main Street, it has charm from the minute you walk in. The aroma of delicious food welcomes you simultaneously as the waitress does. The breakfast menu had many options, which made decisions difficult :). The waitress was extremely friendly and courteous, a quick turn around on drinks and not too long after the meal arrives. Large servings give you what you pay for. An order of stuffed french toast was stuffed with FRESH strawberries - not canned pie filling! (Yumm!) The chicken fried steak was tender and tasty! The eggs Chesapeake were fantastic! The potatoes that came with them were perfection and the corned-beef hash was like no other I've ever had! Our "only" disappointment was leaving full and satisfied. :). We will be back soon! read more
