We chose this because it was recommended on the Scrapple Trail. It didn't disappoint! The atmosphere is cozy county diner, with cheerful red, white, and blue touches. We arrived late morning but before Saturday lunch, so it wasn't crowded, and we were seated right away. It quickly filled up as it got closer to the noon hour. We chose breakfast foods, wanting to try the scrapple. The biscuits and gravy also caught my eye. The biscuits were soft and fluffy, obviously freshly made. And the gravy was perfect, just the right amount of thickness, as well as being white gravy (some restaurants serve brown gravy and that's just not right!), with a generous amount of sausage in it. My husband chose French toast, with 3 thick slices. He said it was very good! And, of course, we had the scrapple. The scrapple looked like it might have been deep fried, but it turned out perfect--crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I haven't been here since I was a kid and just brought my own kids today after moving back to the area. It was really good. Country ham breakfast sandwich is not to be missed. Home fries were also good with the onion and seasoning. The kids got the waffle with the strawberry and blueberry compote which I think might have been homemade. It was very good. The high chair was a bit dirty and sticky and I wish it had been cleaned better. But the bathrooms were very nice and clean. We'll be back for sure. This makes for a great Sunday morning with the Woodsboro park right down the street. read more

We loved the feel of the place and the service was super friendly. Bathrooms were also in order and they had two! I totally expected just one room. Their menu had a decent selection and we were excited to try our picks. Unfortunately for the adults we were not impressed. The kiddos, on the other hand, were quite content. What we got: Kids meals: comes with a 12oz drink. - Mac & cheese - no idea on the rating. The little devoured it and was still hungry so we ordered a slice of French toast for $2.25. The fries that came with the Mac and cheese were not impressive. The chocolate milk was loved by the kiddos. - French toast - I tried some of this and wasn't impressed. But once again the kiddo loved it and finished it. The chocolate milk was also devoured. M.O.A.B. - 2.5* the toast was fine. The eggs were fine, they were over easy (asked for over medium, but not a big deal). The home fries were on the drier side. The pork chops were tough. The hot cake was fluffy but nothing special. Would've enjoyed it more with real syrup. Sausage & gravy on home fries - 2* very little sausage and gravy compared to the home fries. Today was one of those days that I felt like driving some unfamiliar county roads with the top down and soaking up the sun. I ended up in a quaint little town called Woodsboro outside of Fredrick. I read the Yelp reviews and started getting hungry. I had to try me some scrapple at a minimum so in I went. I sat myself in the patriotic themed restaurant and was promptly greeted by Stephanie. She left me with the menu and quickly returned with my diet coke. The menu listed "puddin" as one of the sides and I asked what that was. She said it was like ground up scrapple with lots of salt. I was feeling decadent and ordered the three egg omelet with 3/4 of a pound of bacon, ham and scrapple with Swiss...forgot the name. The meal came out piping hot in what seemed like a few minutes. I asked for hot sauce and a side of old bay. This was going to be great. Although Stephanie said the old bay was an additional 50¢ which I've never heard of. The omelet was huge and surrounded by a side of potatoes and onions, with the two pieces of scrapple calling for my attention. The omelet was stuffed to the brim and just needed a bath in hot sauce and sprinkles of old bay. It was so delish. My appetite has been low due to health crap but I plowed through that omelet, potatoes and one piece of scrapple. Stephanie said "you're doing great" before I finally threw in the towel. This place was a perfect destination for me and hopefully for you too. I'm sitting in my car writing this review with my little take out box of scrapple riding shotgun. Rarely do I enjoy a restaurant with a theme, but Trout's does it right. The theme is military service, and they go all the way with it. Opened by a vet, Trout's has tributes to our service men and women all over the restaurant: from portraits on the wall, to the red white and blue curtains, to displays of medals, to pictures of famous generals and leaders, to the names of dishes on their menu (Ranger Omelet Hooahh!). There was even a nice painting in the ladies room of a solider reading a card huddled somewhere on duty, and you look closer to see it's a mother's day card and the solider is a lady solider. Kinda touching, but I'm a softy. I say, if you're doing a theme you have to go all in on it, and Trout's definitely does. On to the food, I had a veggie omelet which was huge, very filling, and well prepared, and came with grits and a biscuit. Definitely get an order of breakfast potatoes with onions because they are freaking amazing. No seriously, you have to try these things. Coffee was also good..... basically everything here is good, including the service. Our waitress was so friendly, checked on us often and made us feel welcomed. This place was so amazing. The people working there were so nice . The locals were very friendly. It's a little place but great to go to. I plan to be a regular here. Now about the food. The food is great. I placed my order and not really thinking anything until I get my plate. It was so much delicious, savory food. My father ate some his pancakes with out any syrup in the beginning. He explained to me when asked why he didn't use syrup right away. He stated that the blue berries made the pancakes so delicious that he didn't want to take away the love put into the pancakes. And the price for the food was so fair. So yes I plan on coming back. read more

I cannot say enough good things about this little gem in Woodsboro MD. The atmosphere was delightful and has a hometown charm. There are two walls with photos of local servicemen. I was expecting a run-of-the-mill menu however pleasantly surprised with the creative selection to choose from. We started with a cinnamon roll which completely filled a lunch size plate. You could definitely tell it was homemade by the freshness. The roll was dripping in warm icing. My mouth was actually watering as I was eating it. The entrees were large portions. Even my crab omelette, which I ordered the smaller portion, was very filling. They didn't skimp on the crab or cheese. Perfectly seasoned with Old Bay. Their home fries are seasoned and has sweet onions (you can order without the onions however they are really good). The large platter had a little bit of everything and was a whole lot of good food. The plate was larger than a basketball and as you can see filled completely. It's a small restaurant (~15 tables) however due to COVID restrictions not all tables are in use. Was so excited to try a small local diner on my trip to Woodsboro after driving just to take a look around and go for a hike at the park because there's also a Woodsboro Texas. The diner was quaint, server was friendly and attentive. The food looked amazing upon presentation and everything was great except for the "homemade" cream chipped beef which was more milk sauce it needs to be thick guys. Thicken it and it will be better. So this is the type of dining establishment to which your grandparents might take you for dinner. Ergo, the only vegetarian entree appears to be grilled cheese. And to answer your question, no I am not ass enough to fancy such a place as a vegetarian's paradise, so I'm not complaining. Just noting that I am not really in position to judge the food, aside from the perfectly adequate grilled cheese and fries. In Trout's favor, the waitress could not have been any friendlier, and I suspect the food was decent...I know it was affordable. Looked like a lot of regulars in Woodsboro eat there. There's something nice about going somewhere old-fashioned every now and then. I take my kids here as our normal Sunday breakfast. The cooks are pretty flexible and will make anything to order. I typically order a 7 veggie EGG WHITE omelet. It's a specific request, but one that is always met with a smile. The service has always been wonderful, and the food is always perfectly prepared. It is small though, if you have a group larger than 5, be prepared to wait if it's during a "peak" time. Most of the tables are only made for 4, a 5th can be added to the end of the booths, but 6 would require two tables be put together. That's not a complaint though, just a fact. Bottom line, anytime somebody is looking for a local mom and pop shop with good local food, I always send them here. read more

I have been here a bunch of times over the years. It been about a year senesce my last visit when I went on New Year's Eve for lunch 12/31/15. Service was a little slow for not being busy. I ordered a country fried steak and was surprised it come with only one side, fries or mashed potatoes. I ordered green beans, I wanted corn but they don't have corn as a extra side dish. Food was ok only because I was hungry as hell. The brown gravy was very salty, the steak was over cooked and very hard to cut with a steak knife, the green beans were very mushy from being over cooked, prolly from just sitting on the stove keeping them hot. The mashed potatoes were lumpy. The biggest surprise was the meal come to $14.35. A little expensive I think. The waitress when she delivered my bill just walked up, put the check on the table and said" just leave the money on the table in the book please" and walked away. No thank you, have a nice day, nothing. I think the passion is gone, and it starts from the owner down. Trouts is not what it use to be years ago. Where did the passion go? I'm sure there will not be a next time for me at trouts when there are other places to eat within five min. of there. read more
