Stopped in kinda late on a Sunday evening and they were gracious and accommodating. Nice chill atmosphere with folks at the bar and at tables. Service was appropriately attentive. It was the last night of their Octoberfest Menu--we had the pretzel bread, schnitzel, Bratwurst and German Chocolate Cake for dessert. Everything was delicious! They had to swap out mashed potatoes for the roasted potatoes but that was fine-- the BEST mashed red potatoes! The BEST sauerkraut I've ever had! The schnitzel was the highlight, the brats were very good. The cake was yummy! Being late I overheard some substitutions being offered but everyone seemed pleased with what was offered. read more

Such an odd experience we had last night. My wife ordered fish and chips which came with 2 side dishes which she selected. When it arrived there were no chips. We were told she needed to order those as one of her sides. Since when does fish and chips not come with chips? This would be like ordering spaghetti and meatballs and then learning you needed to order the spaghetti separately. I had the schnitzel. I love schnitzel and this was good, but I"ve always had it served with gravy. This had no gravy. It was good, as was the cabbage it came with, but it could have been so much better with a mushroom gravy or some sort of sauce. The server Hannah was very sweet and we always get good service here. A nice little place to grab a beer and get some food. The server did a great job as we had a big party and took up the entire back room. I especially liked the beer list that included craft beer. The menu had a variety of items to chose from and the burger looked really good. I went with a crab cake, fries, and a side salad. The crab cake was really good and filling (about 6 oz). Our family loves Twin Arch Tavern. We live in Mt Airy and frequent this restaurant quite often, we seem to always be satisfied with our meals. My kids, who are very picky, love going to the Tavern, as they call it. Whether we come for a quick lunch or dinner, or for a special occasion, there is something on the vast menu to satisfy us all. I love the ribs, they are supper meaty and tender. The mashed potatoes are fresh, not instant. The fries are hand cut, and we love the sweet potato fries too. Make sure you get the green beans, they are fresh and made in garlic and butter, they are really good. The salads are fresh and very big, hard to finish it there. My daughter just loves the Tomato Basil Carbonara pizza. We have had almost everything on the menu and haven't found anything we just don't like, but we all have our favorites. The service is also top notch, they are super friendly, always helping each other. I have to mention the Christmas decor, it is amazing. All in all we are so happy to have a place like Twin Arch Tavern in our own town. If you haven't been there, I promise it is well worth it to come try it out, maybe we will see you there. read more

We were warmly greeted by our host/waitress Sophia who provided excellent and thoughtful service from the moment we sat down to order to when we got up after paying the bill. The restaurant inside is modern and very unassuming from the outside where we actually sat. Our food was delicious large in portions. The food here is always good. A regular go to place for decent meals with several choices. A bit pricy but they do have specials. Excellent crab cakes, Maryland cream of crab soup, burgers & fries, boom boom shrimp, shrimp salad sandwiches just to name a few of the dishes. This Taven has been around as various names for as long as I can remember but the current version is essentially than ideal. The good. Our Waitperson was very friendly, quick, and kept us informed as to why the kitchen couldn't turn out a simple sandwich a d burger in less thN 30 minutes. "Teddy" was the only reason to go to this place. The bad includes the food, is a club sandwich supposed to be that dry, yet so soggy? They make up for it by giving you stale chips though. So we had that going. The burger was so oily that The US was going to invade it. Then we had "Slender Man", the heavily braceleted host. While he was nowhere to be found while we had an extensive wait for the shitty food, he certainly made his unwelcome presence known by interrupting our conversation with Teddy as we were paying the bill. Maybe Teddy should move on to one of the better, more established places in and around Mt. Airy, as they aren't doing her delightful attitude any good at this place. Will not repeat. This is my third time here in the past two weeks. The first time the food was pretty good. I got the open faced turkey sandwich. The second time was amazing. I got the shrimp and crab Chesapeake pasta. Today I was going to order that again but my friend ordered crab dip as an appetizer so I ordered the salmon with asparagus and a baked potato instead. The salmon and asparagus were awful. The salmon was thin and flat and completely encrusted with black and white sesame seeds and a balsamic soy sauce (supposed to be a ginger soy sauce but I didn't taste any ginger) which I didn't care for. I scraped the sauce off and wiped it off the plate with a napkin and put lemon on it but those sesame seeds were just an off putting texture. I thought it would have a few sprinkles of seeds over it but it was just too much. The asparagus tasted good until about half way down the stalk. Then it became hard and tough. I was unable to bite it. It was like eating bamboo. The server came back and saw I had not eaten my food and asked if I wanted a box. It was a $27 meal so I said yes and explained I didn't care for the taste or texture of the food. She said ok and just brought me the box. So all I ate was my side salad and baked potato. I could have gotten that at Wendy's drive thru for for 1/4 of the cost of this meal. When she offered dessert I hinted that I had not eaten dinner yet so I'd be skipping dessert and would have to get dinner elsewhere. She ignored that comment too. I feel disappointed more wasn't done to offer me a better dining experience. :( read more

My family's go to place! The energy is always high and positive. The manager Amber makes it a point to put a smile on your face. She's always so helpful and sweet. My favorite items are the crab fritters, fish and chips, crab cake sandwich and always a sweet tea. The also have a berry dessert I forgot the name but it's delicious has a crust with powder sugar on top. The brunch is amazing as well. I always get steak and eggs and I have yet to regret my decision. read more

UPDATE to my review from a year ago...I'm still giving this place a low rating even though the person who responded to my review a year ago said the experience I had then was not normal for their restaurant. Sadly, tonight we decided to review their menu online prior to giving this place one more try and I found that being a Sunday the menu said one of their offerings after 4pm was Prime Rib. In fact, it was this particular food offering that made our decision to eat here. When we arrived, around 4:30/4:45pm we were quickly seated but, when the waitress showed up she said that the pastrami sliders and something similar was not available tonight. Planning to get the prime rib this news, at this point, was not distressing. My significant other was planning on ordering the jumbo lump crab cake and a 1/2 rack of ribs. When the waitress came back for our order my significant other told her that I would like the prime rib... it was then, not when she told us what else wasn't available, that she decided to disclose that the main reason we were there, the prime rib, was not available. She then offered an option in its stead of an open face prime rib sandwich...lol, that's a poor substitute for someone who specifically chose to try this restaurant one more time just for the advertised Sunday prime rib. Heck, we drove there just to get it. Since the $41 prime rib was unavailable we both chose to choose something else. So instead of ordering the $41 prime rib and the jumbo lump crab cake which was equally expensive with the addition of a 1/2 rack of ribs we chose to order two soups at approximately $9 each and a pizza that was $16 but because it was Sunday was $3 off. When the crab soup arrived for my significant other the bowl itself was only slightly warm to the touch and relatively lukewarm to cool to the taste so, we had to hunt down our waitress for resolve. Before coming to our table for his lukewarm soup she went back to the kitchen and then came to us with the excuse that the soup warmer wasn't working right and warming the way it should be so, she offered to microwave it for us. I don't know what alarms me most here, the fact that the soup must have sat around in a warmer that wasn't warming properly for god knows how long today or the fact that she took the bowl back to microwave it after it had sat inappropriately for god knows how long and then brought the same bowl back out to serve not questioning if the inappropriate warming might have damaged the soup that she was now reserving to a customer. Our pizza arrived shortly after she returned with his rewarmed soup. The pizza was only okay at best . It looked good for presentation purposes but, it had little sauce, little taste and the crust was too tough to cut with a fork but, it was even harder to chew being as tough as it was. When all was said and done we ate only half the pizza, boxed up the rest and received a bill for less than my prime rib alone would have been had it been available for order tonight. We paid our bill and left. Is it good business to advertise something that is not available? No! Is it good business to advertise something that is not available and have people choose to drive to your restaurant specifically for that item? Again no! Is it good business to advertise something that is not available, have a waitress wait until you order it to tell you it's not available when she had already told you what was not available when she first came to your table? No! Is it good business to do all this to two customers who have already had a bad dining experience at your restaurant? Definitely not! As reviews go this one is negative and as research has shown the impact of negative word-of-mouth can be more devastating than ever as online and social tools that amplify word-of-mouth are increasingly more powerful. With my responder last year telling me that our bad dining experience was outside of their norm sadly, tonight only showed me more of the same. My Dad and I decided to have a guys night out and go out to eat some where. Let me tell you that when I say it was fantastic, I mean it was FANTASTIC. Our server was very friendly and quick to get us our drinks and take our orders, and the food was out quick. My burger was perfectly cooked, and the fries were fresh and hot. My old man ordered crab cakes with asparagus, and he was also very satisfied with his food. No thank you. Sorry, but no. First off - the sweet corn and crab fritters. Not bad, not great either. But at least you knew what you were eating and it was seasoned well. Second was the sweet potato fries. Now, as a southern girl, I love my sweet potato fries. Heck. I love all my food - my hips will attest to that. These fries were the shoestring variety and I had high hopes.... until I bit into them. Single fry, limp and mushy with no salt to season them. Sigh.... then there was the Tavern Club sandwich and onion rings. The rings themselves looked great but again, someone forgot the salt. Bland breading. Ugh. The club was served on a brioche bun. My bun was stale and had as a rock. How does a brioche bun get that hard when it's mostly butter????? Then again, I couldn't taste any butter in the bun it was so stale. The turkey was so dry it flaked off and I asked for Mayo on my sandwich but couldn't find any. This is sadly not something I can recommend. read more

So what once was our favorite local restaurants just officially dropped totally off our list. The last few meals here have been unusually poor including tonight. Tonight the pork chops were some of the toughest pieces of meat my wife has ever eaten. My steak was order medium rare but came out burnt well- done and leathery. My out of town guests had the prime rib medium rare, that came out under cooked and was one of the most fatty pieces of meat I've ever seen served. Needless to say we won't be back. read more

The new management ruined this restaurant. For many years, it was the go-to place in town for good food. Now, everything is subpar. I gave it four or five tries and got sick of low-quality, overpriced food. I used to get the club sandwich a lot. Now it's a small turkey sandwich with ingredients and quality that can vary wildly. Other experiences included cold bad-tasting entrees, off-tasting coleslaw, and stale potato chips. Then there's a bartender who makes a habit of insulting customers for no good reason. read more

I've generally enjoyed the Tavern until we went there on Easter Sunday for brunch. Sat in the bar, and went to the buffet tables. Cold potatoes, undercooked bacon, NO eggs of any kind. They must have let the kitchen staff off for the day, because all of the food looked and tasted like it was made the day before. Then we got back to our table saw the price for the buffet. 45 DOLLARS A PERSON! Absolutely amazing. They got me once, never again. read more

My husband, family and friends have been going to Mt. Airy Tavern, now Twin Arch Tavern, for years. We loved the atmosphere and friendliness of the staff and reasonable prices. Then the Tavern changed hands...unfortunately. We decided to go there for Thanksgiving dinner. Our reservation was for 5:30 and we were meeting a friend. The dinner was totally disappointing: lukewarm food at best, tough ham, gummy mashed potatoes, etc. The food was not on a steam table, nor was it heated with stereo/candles. And then came the bill: $130.00 excluding tip for three people and a much less than satisfactory buffet. Needless to say, we will not be going back to the Tavern!! read more

Normally I eat lunch at the same spots in Mt Airy while my son is in afternoon pre-k. Today I decided to try Twin Arch Tavern. Teddy asked how many and I let him know and he sat me down in a booth and told me Jing would be with me soon. She came shortly after to take my order and then I never saw her again until it was time to pay. I had the crab pretzel that I'm pretty sure had ZERO crab in it. I searched and never found it...the taste was fine but it would be nice to have crab in your crab dip. Some other young man dropped my food off to me and I dropped my fork during my meal and needed napkins, but Jing never showed up. I was just about to ask Teddy if he can find her because now I absolutely need to leave or I'll be late picking up my son and then she finally shows up with the check, but then disappears with it and my credit card for awhile as she takes orders for other tables....who knows where my card is while she's missing....not a great first impression and as I watched her with other tables that was just what she did...take the order and then disappear until time to leave. We've been here for their Sunday brunch and have thoroughly enjoyed the service and the food. Tonight's the first time we tried the restaurant (bar side) for dinner. We were not disappointed. Our server Kirsten (Long Isle) and our bartender Steve were awesome. Steve's Dirty Martinis were the best my wife's ever had, beating out a long times friends recipe. Kirstens attentiveness and friendliness was exceptional. The food was wonderful. Cream of Crab soup never disappoints. The pasta carbonara and the prime rib were excellent. Both were cooked proper, seasoned very well, and brought to the table at temperature. We look forward to coming back to try other dishes. read more

Fast forward a year later and it's even worse than it was before. Service was good. The host (teddy) rolled his eyes when we came in sighing the whole time. Like we were interrupting his time. No one else was in the place that should have been a clue. My daughter and I ordered stuffed mushrooms, French dip sandwich and shrimp salad sandwich. What a huge waste of money. The crab meat in the mushrooms was spoiled- she spit it out as soon as she tried it. The waitress didn't care. She asked us if we would like a box to take them home. Why would I take spoiled seafood home? The French dip looked appealing but tasted awfuk. The meat was thinly sliced but the roll was a sopping mess. The meat tasted like it had been reheated in a microwave 3x already. No seasoning either. The au jus looked like water and tasted the same. One bite and she was done. No thanks. My shrimp salad boasted old bay in it. Well the shrimp were undercooked, there was no old bay anywhere on it. Just some Mayo. The lettuce was fresh and tasted fine. The wheat bread was toasted and hard. Didn't ask for it toasted. They charged us $4.00 then the posted menu price for the sandwich also. Had such high hopes for here. But it was a huge let down. We certainly will not be back. Had come prepared to buy gift cards for some folks. No way. I wouldn't send my worst enemy here to eat. Our waitress said she was sorry we didn't like the food. Serval others had walked out by this point also after getting food. So I know it wasn't just us. She did offer us a box, there was nothing else she could do she said. "No manager was around". Very disappointed. Went for the Prime Rib on Friday and it was heated in a microwave and essentially tasteless. The crab dip tasted like it was made with Velveeta cheese and the crab was beyond its use by date. On the positive side our server was outstanding. We will not be back. read more

The food came out cold. We had six of us and all the fries were cold. The club wasn't multiple layers like most places. It really was just a sandwhich and not a club. Dined at the tavern for lunch today (Tuesday). It was early and not very busy. It was our first time there since the change in ownership. I ordered 1/2 shrimp salad sandwich and French onion soup. The soup was wonderful. The shrimp on the sandwich, while tasty, were extra small baby shrimp and there were just six little shrimp on the sandwich. It was all lettuce and tomato. My husband ordered cream of crab soup, which was good. He also ordered a French dip. It was a large sandwich, bread was dry and meat was very overcooked. It came with no ajus sauce, so we had to ask. Our lunch took over an hour long even though it wasn't very busy. Our waitress greeted us and told us that it was a bad day. She mentioned this several times throughout her time serving us. May give this restaurant another chance in the future, but will NOT be our go-to choice for now. read more

This place has been on the decline since opening up after COVID restrictions. I hate to say it because it used to be one of my favorite places to eat in Mount Airy. Shame. Went tonight for my last time. I will not be returning. After 20 minutes our waitress came to the table with no introduction. Just ,"Do you know what you want to drink?" Took our drink, appetizer, and entree order all at once. After another wait. Drinks came out. Wrong. Then enteees came out. I'm almost positive my salad was made before COVID and stored away until I ordered it. We asked for the waitress. She didn't come. But then out appetizers came out. Those were wrong too. How fortunate. We didn't realize it was reverse night. And to think, we almost went to Taco Bell instead. We didn't see our waitress again until it was about time to leave. No apologies for the long waits. No apologies for the screw-ups. Didn't even bother to come by when we asked, but waited until the meal was mostly finished to ask about refills. Just terrible.
