Fresh, flavorful food! My husband and I have had a lot of Mediterranean food, after living in a big city however, Olea knocked them out of the park. I ordered the sample appetizer to try four different things all of which were AMAZING!! The lamb platter was delicious! I highly recommend this restaurant!! My only disappointment is that I didn't come here sooner! The staff were friendly from the moment we walked in. We ordered chicken shawarma and souvlaki wraps and platters to go and they were delicious. The meat was incredibly flavorful in all the dishes. The portions were reasonable for the price, neither overwhelming nor too small. We order baklava for dessert and they were also great, maybe could have a little more honey on top, but I liked that they were not too sweet. The staff was great...from the start in my question about being MSG free...boom, they had the right answer! I had two servings of spanakopita as l was craving some, and they had the vibe that l wanted two servings...l was not disappointed! I got a side of pita bread that was perfect! I ordered my dessert to go, but by the time l got to my hotel room...the baklava was begging to be devoured...this was absolutely the best baklava that l have ever had! I'll admit it: having lived in big cities for the last 10 years, I was not optimistic that small-town Mediterranean food in Swansboro would be good. But I was pleasantly surprised! Olea seems to be one of the (very) few restaurants in Swansboro with good vegan options, and which clearly labels all of their vegetarian and vegan food. Plant-based eaters can get delicious falafel - and falafel is easy to make but hard to make really well - and You can get an appetizer sampler with said falafel, fried cauliflower, hummus, and baba ghanoush; vegetarians can get feta or goat cheese or tzatziki. And there's also a stellar spanakopita! My omnivore relatives loved their meat dishes, and said the gyros were great. It's a casual, order-at-the-counter place, though they sell wine and beer (including, it looks like Greek beer.) One annoying feature: the posted menu above the register doesn't include prices, but the paper take-out menus by the register do. Not only do you want to know what you'll be paying, but prices are often a guide to portion size, so not having prices is frustrating. read more

I can't have dairy, and they are always extremely accommodating, and they are kind about it. The food here is amazing ! I'm vegan and tried their veggie platter. It had falafel, rice and a salad, the menu was organized and labeled with the letter "v" for the vegan options. I had a ginger beer and water for my beverages and it paired well with the platter. The entire meal was perfectly cooked. The falafel was cooked had an airy crisp to it and was very flavorful. The salad was fresh, I loved the tahini dressing served with it. The rice wasn't too hard or grainy, very savory. I enjoyed it very much. The staff were polite and helpful, the customer service was great as well. I left full but not overly stuffed. The portions were just right and I am one happy foodie. read more

Olea in Swansboro, NC blows them out of the water!!!! Annan,(hope I spelled it right) not only is a likeable host, but man!!, he'll hook you up!!! Wow! What an incredible surprise. Walking into Olea was a treat. The menu is amazing. We ordered the app sampler choosing:Feta, Baba Ghanouj, Falafel, and Tatziki. Each item was better then the next and complimented by fresh, warm pita! For dinner the kids chicken souvlaki was an incredibly generous amount of delicious rice and perfectly cooked chicken- my picky eater scarfed it down. The tomato basil wrap is perfect for the vegetarian in your life. It was offered with either a salad or fries- we opted for the salad and weren't disappointed. I chose the chicken tawook- a spicy skewered chicken dish- served with rice and salad. So delicious. Since the kiddos ate so well - the finished off dinner with - in their words 'the best baklava since we left DC'. Excellent Mediterranean food! The service is quick and polite. We ordered falafel sandwiches (in a pita) and gyro sandwiches to go. The falafels were hot, flavorful, and crispy and the chopped cucumber and tomato crisp and cold. The sauce was tangy and delicious. The gyro was full of delicious grilled lamb, shaved thin, with vegetables and tangy sauce. We also had french fries (salads were also an option) as sides and they were home and tasty. We enjoyed our food, and will go back so we can try other menu items. Recommended! Update: yesterday we grabbed a quick lunch-- tabouleh salad and a spinach/feta pocket. The salad was crunchy and delicious! Fresh parsley and flavorful tomato. Tangy lemon vinaigrette dressing. The spinach pockets were delicious, and had just the right amount of feta cheese inside. I had been told by a friend that I had to visit this place since I like Mediterranean food so much and it did not disappoint! I would say it's sister restaurant, Marakesh, is the only other comparable food in the area . This joint is owned by the same blood line but it's much less dressed up and without the fancy belly dancer entertainment but the quality is just as good if not better! The open face kitchen allows you to watch the family run business do its thing in preparing your 'home' cooked meal. The ingredients are super fresh and I really admired the digital menu overhead. The atmosphere was very appealing and they sell Mediterranean beer and wines as well. We got the hummus and falafel plate along with the gyro platter and both were amazeballs! The pita was hot and crispy delivered in triangle slices perfect for dipping and double dipping into the yummy hummus. The plate was very delish as well with a small salad serving of your choice. They also have a lunch special from M to F up until about 3pm, so take advantage. I will definitely be returning when I'm in the area. read more

The food here is good and unfortunately, there are no comparable fast casual establishments in the area. Super friendly employees as well. However, employees and customers alike are not wearing masks. I find this deeply disturbing considering we are in the middle of a pandemic and cases in this state are not on the decline. Asked for Chicken Souvlaki and received Chicken Shawarma, then questioned the people there. Essentially they would not acknowledge it. Asked three different people and the cook wouldn't address it. Souvlaki as described on the menu and like every Greek place I've been to, is cubes of meat, skewered and either served in a sandwich or on a platter. Shawarma is chicken meat on a rotisserie (like Gyro meat) and sliced into thin pieces. Also, ordered salad instead of fries and the tiny salad was pitiful. read more
