I am giving a 3 because we didn't actually get to eat the food. 35 minutes before the restaurant closed we walked in. I have worked the food industry and understand the inconvenience but for a customer in a small town looking for food,especially in a tourist town, This should be a norm. The hostess had to ask permission to seat us and once she did she had to keep checking on us because the waiter was too busy, although there were only 4 active customers. Credit to the hostess because she maintained an awesome attitude, but the rest of the restaurant, who were trying to close by sweeping and rolling silverware, and making faces at how annoyed they were at our presence was overwhelming. Yippee! I get to have lunch there today! I used to live in the area and moved away a year or so ago. And boy do I miss this restaurant. Everything Oli makes is wonderful. Her presentations are always very nice. It is hard to find Mexican food that is good especially after eating there. I recommend it and will always eat there when I am in the area. read more

Coming from California, my wife and I are always on the lookout for more authentic Mexican than Tex-Mex, and while this still has some Tex-Mex influence, it was much closer to what we look for in Mexican food. Was visiting from california, and I honestly think we have the best Mexican food outside of Mexico or a friends house. however, the carne asada street tacos were solid here! They were honestly surprising! Because often times you can get a greasier/oily meat/taco..these tacos had perfectly cooked tender asada and tasted healthy basically. Great job! Wow wow wow! Olivia and Jimmy know what is up! This food has so many levels of complexity, and the staff is fun and charming. My favorite thing, so far, is the shrimp appetizer. I swear that shrimp is dunked is some kind of intoxicating elixir. I cannot get enough of it! I joke about putting one of the shrimp tails between my cheek and gums to help me fall asleep. It is THAT good!!! My husband likes to eat the naked chile relleno. Where else can you get a roasted poblano stuffed with goodness that is NOT deep fried? Also, are you vegan? Gluten free? You found your new nirvana. (You can thank me with an organic skinny margarita when you see me.) Anyway, I hear they are moving to Marble Falls to open a fantastic new venue! Our first try wasn't what we expected. We're not used to having to purchase chips and salsa. My "Happy Meal" was diced up chicken that wasn't anything special that was set on top of sticky mexican rice that was over seasoned with cumin. It was then covered in queso and a few grilled onions and bell peppers. My wife's shrimp taco was horrible. Tiny shrimp I'm guessing was out of a can. It smelled and tasted like bait. We didn't ask to be compensated for it but the manager did the right thing and took it off the bill. Our waiter was excellent and the drinks were good. We enjoyed an evening meal at Oil's Kitchen while on vacation. Our evening started with drinks. A beer for my husband and a frozen margarita for me. Both were very cold and tasty on a 90+ degree day. Our meal orders were the Happy Plate with steak and a taco salad with ground beef. My husband enjoyed the Happy Plate saying that it was delicious and filling. My taco salad's presentation was lovely and tasted even better. The in-house made dressing was wonderful and a perfect addition to the salad. Our waiter was friendly and provided excellent service. His attentiveness added to an enjoyable evening. We look forward to eating at Oli's again. It is a comfortable clean restaurant that we recommend trying. read more

Well, I suppose it was an adventure, but what an awful mess this place turned out to be. We've been curious about this joint for a long time. Our last meal at El Agave bombed (way too much oregano in the chicken enchiladas), so we finally decided to do Oli's. We both grew up in the Rio Grande Valley where the Mexican food restaurants are just way better than anywhere else. Period. We've both been eating Mexican food since the late '60s. There aren't any good Mexican food eateries in Spicewood; we had our expectations set low, but our hopes set high. We ordered water. The lady brought out 2 chilled glasses and a large refillable bottle of cold water. No ice. I gotta have ice. It was tap water. Sheri wasn't very hungry, but I was starving after a long day of air travel. She ordered 2 chicken tacos and one beef taco, and they came with rice and beans. I ordered chicken enchiladas with green sauce. We also ordered a small Oli's Dip appetizer. No one ever brought us salsa or chips, but chips did eventually come with the dip. The chips weren't very fresh, but they were edible. The dip was terrible. Very low quality white cheese with decent guacamole and a little taco meat. It was supposed to come with pico, but there were only a few pieces of chopped tomato. The portion size was very small. There was some kind of powdery stuff on top of the dip which made it even worse. They should go check out the Bob Armstrong dip at Matt's El Rancho to see what it should look and taste like. Still no salsa, and no one to flag down to request it. After the water debacle and the awful dip, I should've paid for what we ate and gotten the heck out of there. The food arrived. I ordered charro beans. They came in a very tiny bowl, maybe 1/3 cup; a taste but not a side. They were pasty with no juice. Terrible. Not correct at all. The rice was horrible. Way too much cumin. That's all I could taste. The enchiladas were dry and tasteless. Very bland, plain chicken and very little sauce. The tacos were good. Excellent taco shells. The best I've seen in quite a while. After I pushed my plate to the side, I tried a chicken taco. The chicken was cold. I'm mad as heck now, and ready to go. I asked for salsa right near the end of this whole mess, but I didn't miss anything. Terrible salsa too. And the whole time we are in there, what was supposed to be background music was just steady, loud, annoying, thumping bass. I complained to my server the food was inedible. She saw my full plate of food and asked me if I wanted a to-go box. I told her again the food was not good. She smiled and started to walk away. I raised my voice and told her I was serious, and proceeded to describe all the poor quality food. Other patrons are now starting to observe. She asked me if I wanted to speak to a manager. I just shook my head; we wanted out of there. The manager did come to our table with our check. I told her about all the bad food. At no time did either person offer to take the enchiladas off my bill. Unacceptable. This is one pitiful restaurant. read more
