Great new upscale convenient store in Jersey City. Prices are pretty good and they have fresh produce. They also have a hot food section where you can get some freaky cooked food; salmon, chicken and veggies. Competitive prices and no lines. Get your snacked here as well as you every day necessities. They have organic options and vegan options as well. Small but packed with what ever you need. They also have a variety of cold cuts and cheeses to satisfy your tastbuds. I didn't buy any hot food but the food looked delicious. I bought a red pear there and it was absolutely juicy and succulent. I will definitely come here again to buy some fruit and other snacks. Finally ! A new market is open in the space that was formerly occupied by Tendershoot. Tendershoot was a small grocery store, but Oliva takes it one step further and also has several prepared food stations. Some of the options includes sandwiches, Mediterranean food, salads and Mexican food. Yum! And then of course there are also standard grocery options like fruits and veggies, yogurt, cheeses, frozen foods and packaged foods. Very similar to P&K, Lee's, and Sprove. You still can't buy meat at any of these locations which is a bummer. It's hard to do a full grocery shop but is a wonderful option if you need a few items or something to pull a recipe together. Prices for packaged goods are fair - similar to P&K + Lee's and way better than Sprove. A deli sandwich is 7.00 which is a pretty solid deal. I ordered a single chicken taco for 4 dollars. This was the perfect size for snack and you are able to load it up with toppings from the toppings bar. There are a variety of salsas plus cheese, pico, onions and cilantro. I'm very happy to have a new grocery option in this space, and it's an added bonus that they have food stations too. I work from home and there aren't many fast casual and healthy lunch options in the area. Oliva is exactly what we needed. read more

Convenient location for grabbing last minute grocery - it's located on the prime street of Grove Street with all the restaurants and shops. Great place to get fresh fruits that are in season (and therefore decently priced !) Other grocery items are bit pricey compared to other places, so I wouldn't come here for normal grocery shopping unless I'm in a grocery emergency situation. read more

So this is my go to grocery spot for produce. The produce is great and I'm often under budget if I'm just getting produce alone. The packaged goods though...pretty pricey. There's a natural PB I got once, which is great because it was just peanuts, was like $8 but I wasn't about to get the ones that have palm oil so I just bit the bullet that time. It's nice that they have gluten free bread sometimes although I wish it was always there. They've done some reorganization and now there are more gluten free options luckily. But even that gets kind of pricey. My recommendation if you have a budget is to get your fresh produce from here and any packaged foods from target. Also the falafels are delicious but I think they have gluten so BEWARE. I got extremely bloated after eating them. I didn't think to ask because I didn't think falafels have gluten anyways but luckily I'm not celiac or anything. read more

tl;dr horrible customer service + food poisoning my husband and i come here all the time because we live very close and it's super convenient. today, i came to the store at 9:45 (they close at 10 pm) and there was an older man pushing all the outdoor fruit carts in; i think he may be the owner. he saw me browsing the shelves and shoved past me many times with the giant carts, including by rudely telling me to get out of the way (i'm currently pregnant). at around 9:55, i finally finish grabbing my items and head to the cashier to wait to check out--there is no one there and the man sees me waiting but doesn't say anything. a little while later, he pushed another giant cart in and again rudely tells me to get out of the way. i do and then return to waiting by the cashier. he sees me and still doesn't say anything. at around 9:58, i ask him if he can help me check out and he says no, gesturing to the cashier station and saying the cashier have long left. there is another younget man standing by the prepared foods section and i ask if he can check me out, and he also says no. at this point the older man looks at me and says i have to leave. i check my phone and it is 9:59. i will never shop here again. if they is how they treat people who spend money here every day (quite literally - we have probably spent tens of thousands of dollars here) i shudder to think how they treat other customers. if you need groceries in the neighborhood, check out P&K fruit just down the block. it's a family place with the kindest owners and highest quality produce. and if you must buy anything at Oliva, avoid the prepared foods and cut fruit at all costs--it gave me food poisoning and had me projectile vomiting for a full day. read more

Oliva has really upped their deli food game! Gave the salad bar another try and there are so many more options now. Reasonably priced at $6.99 and absolutely delicious. The spicy chicken is super spicy, but actually the chicken cutlet was even tastier. I'll be getting my salad fix here regularly. The produce shopping here continues to be amazing. They always have something on super sale. Like strawberries for $1, ginger .99¢/lb, asparagus bunches 2/$3, etc. I also LOVE being able to buy loose produce by the pound. I come here at least 2x a week to pick up things. I also tried one of their chocolate cake desserts. I mean it's not a fresh baked cake, but it was really good! read more

Ok this is so frustrating! The delivery was late. But beyond that my entire kitchen smells like plastic! There is a JC bag ban... they advertise themselves as a Grocery Store and restaurant and yet they hide behind the "deli" examption. Every food is in a plastic container... then each container is wrapped in liberal amounts of saran wrap... then all the plastic cutlery is wrapped in plastic... and all of that is placed into a toxic plastic bag. Now... plastic is toxic to human health not to mention detrimental to human health. There is a reason the entire world is moving away and banning these items in every corner. I love this place so far! Good produce, either on par with prices at Shoprite/Key Food or even cheaper (cauliflower is a full $1.50 less! eggplants are like 30 cents less! everything adds up...). Overall, a good selection of drinks, cheeses, some deli meats, treats, etc. It's clean and the service is nice. I haven't tried their coffee or juices, but their chicken gyro is amazing and huuuge. Only complaint is that the aisles are really narrow and it's hard to get past even 1 person. I'll still keep coming back though, for the food and prices. read more

I was with my husband walking at Grove street and saw this grocery place. A lot of people were buying strawberries/raspberries which were placed outside the shop. I wanted to see if they are fresh so went inside and they looked fresh so I thought of checking the entire place. Firstly, this place has a live salad and sandwich section. You can ask whatever you want and they make in front of you like delis. Second, you will find a variety of pastries including cheesecakes and pies(they dont look fresh to me). Their fruits and vegetables looks good to me. I have posted a picture of what I bought from here, Diet cheesecake which is new to me, have never seen before and I really liked its taste and felt no guilty after eating full one can(:D). After my first visit here, I searched these cheesecake but could not find so went there again last weekend. Fruit and vegetables that are aesthetically pleasing as well as delicious is the rule, not the exception. It may be difficult to navigate the store at times due to customer volume but it is worth it because of the surprisingly wide assortment of items given the modest space. In full transparency, Oliva would not be suitable for purchasing large amounts of meats but if you are looking to purchase reasonably priced gourmet items to complement your main course meals and or ingredients to create that captivating fruit and cheese platter then Oliva will be a frequent stop throughout the year. read more

Today we ordered oliva for the second time. Their food us ALWAYS delicious and their service excellent. The first time we ordered it was extremely late. My grubhubber took two hours to get here so oliva DOUBLED out order! Great customer service! The second time it was about 1 hr 15 mins about 25 mins late but the driver was extremely apologetic. I've been to this grocery store a few times in the past few months when I needed to quickly grab some last minute fresh produce. I will say the fruit and vegetables were very fresh every time I bought some and have been very happy with those purchases. However, the selection of other goods is very limited and the prices are quite high - comparable to Manhattan prices. I came in one time to buy a large Chobani yogurt and it was a whopping $8. Usually, at other larger grocery stores, they are $4 - $5. Sadly, I put the yogurt back as I wasn't willing to spend that much. In addition to this, the store is quite small and sometimes, the line gets extremely long, it can become very packed, and you can hardly move. The upstairs has a few tables that look rather sad and some other goods that didn't really catch my eye. The upstairs is much bigger and they should probably utilize it to increase their grocery selection as it seems, now, a bit useless to me. I do, however, want to talk about the one time I ordered a sandwich from the deli here and it was absolutely amazing. The man behind the counter was so friendly and accommodating. The sandwich was delicious and reasonably priced, I believe $6.99, but I can't remember off the top of my head. I would give this place a 3.5. read more

I asked politely asked if I could order a salad & the worker there looked me up and down and said " No. you have to wait till 11 am- we only serve breakfast now!" ... there were no signs stating such "fact". This food market opened recently on Newark st near Grove. Very convenient and they also have a hot food bar. The have a small bakery section with very reasonable prices. I stopped in for lunch and had a grilled chicken over rice and vegetable. It appears to be more of a Mediterranean theme. While they are small they have a nice selection of fruit and packaged goods. I like the Jazz they have playing in the background as well. Perfect for locals if you need a few items and don't want to head for long lines at ShopRite. read more

I placed an order through Seamless for delivery. It arrived over 2 hours after the expected delivery window on a Monday afternoon. I could never imagine what the wait time is on a weekend. The driver had informed me that he had just gotten the order 15 minutes prior, so they clearly have some issues with logistics. I had to contact seamless several times because when I tried calling, there was no answer. I would have only given 1 star but the food was good. The food is definitely high quality and my order was correct. The ingredients were fresh. Olivia has a lot of potential if they can figure out their delivery and timing issues. Wraps, sandwiches, salads, burgers, stir fry, burritos and a massive buffet. Had a pastrami for lunch and went back for a hand made salad for dinner. Loved both. MUCH Cheaper than Sprove, better quality produce than anywhere in JC (although that might not be saying much), good deli selection of salami and charcuterie, smoked salmon, whitefish spread by the pound, green tomatoes(!), yeşil biberin, berries that actually taste like something, great looking baked goods, and a wide selection of yuppie groceries if you practice the confused millennial diet of "things made of things they're not usually made of"...I guess that's health food now. Some good Black Sea region products as well - Armenian, Greek, Bulgarian, and Turkish brands. Good feta, yogurt, some pickles, but no ajvar, which was a bummer. They also deal Goya products - it's not possible to get a permit as a grocer in New Jersey without doing so. This is a very welcome addition to the neighborhood! I hope that they are able to maintain their high quality standards, broad selection, and fair prices. I wouldn't order delivery as they can't seem to get it right - ordered two breakfast wraps from here once around 9am and after waiting over an hour, we were told they had to cancel the order. Obviously that was annoying but we moved on. Our breakfast showed up around 5:30pm that day...bizarre. DON'T BUY THE MEATS/SEAFOOD. They are the type of place that will sell you a package of fish labeled "Swordfish," but they put one piece of swordfish in the package along with a much cheaper, worse piece of an entirely different fish in the package. This has happened more than once, and it's clearly a pattern/practice and not an oopsie daisy.
