Custard Pies inside
Angela B.

Neptune Bakery & Deli in my hometown has the BEST Desserts in the city. The service is good like always and Jersey City changed a little bit. The Bakery has tons of desserts to choose from and the prices are excellent. From $12 you can get 6 Custard Pies for that price which I think it's a great deal. I use to come to this Bakery a lot when I was little for desserts because it wasn't far from my Middle School (Nolan L Middle School). Always, if you haven't tried this Bakery you're missing out Big Time!! Give them a try, you'll be glad you did. #GetYaNeptuneBakeryOn #CustardPiesOn #YummyDesserts #JerseyCityNewJersey

Custard cups

Came back here to try their macaroon and coconut custard cups. Both types had generous grated coconut fillings. I like the coconut custard cup better as the filling is a mix of custard and grated coconut, making it more moist. The macaroon cup was piled high with a generous mound of grated coconut, and had a crusty topping. It was good but a little more dry. $1.55 for each cup or $18/dozen. They charge a 3% fee if you use credit card.

I no longer live in Jersey City but I know this place is a staple and try to return every chance I get. It's been years since my last visit but the custard cups are STILL silky smooth goodness and melt in my mouth. I tried something that LOOKED like a powder sugared custard cup but it was coconutty. Also yummy but not as. And since I had a craving for a Filipino empanada, I tried the beef and the chicken ones. I do not recommend those. At all. Value was not there but I understand the cost of everything has gone up. Service was lovely. Super polite.

Hole-in-the-wall bakery/deli selling an assortment of baked goods. While the custard cups were tasty (only after some re-heating at home), I thought the popovers and the empanadas were too doughy and could have used more filling in them. Maybe they would've tasted better hot and fresh out of the oven, but I guess I just had some higher expectations given that their custard cups are so widely raved about.

Boiled eggs

The custard cups here are amazing! The flaky crust & the sweetness from the custard is the perfect combination. They are $1.25 a piece and they're honestly worth it. They have an assortment of cookies, whole cakes and cupcakes on display but I didn't try any of them. They also have deli sandwiches, loaves of bread, Portuguese rolls, hard boiled eggs and water/soft drinks. Although the custard cups are 5 stars- the bakery is NOT! It's pretty much a hole in the wall and would more than likely fail a health inspection. They have a few tables so you can eat there but I do NOT suggest it. My advice would be to grab your custard cups and run out of there! The owners run a tight ship- they have rules on the walls for the customers and you must follow them or risk being thrown out. The area is a little sketchy so I can understand it. The custard cups are delicious but I will probably never return to this bakery. Ever.

Egg Tarts
Nick C.

I have eaten their famous egg tarts at many family gatherings, and since I happened to be in Jersey City, I made a point to visit the location myself. It's a pretty dingy looking bakery run by some of my fellow Filipinos. But the ladies were working were nice, and their was a good supply of egg tarts left. Suprisingly, this bakery is open 24/7. I have no interest in anything but their egg tarts. I saw the rest of their offerings and they all look pretty average. Even the egg tarts are unassuming. But when you bite into them, they're creamy, rich, and perfectly sweet in a tender flaky crust.

This humble deli serves what at this point I have determined to be the best in the city, and at a wonderfully low price point (around $5 on my last visit a few months back. Thin, well done to the point of crispy layers of pork roll interspersed with hard scrambled eggs and layers of American cheese between a kaiser roll in a manner quite similar to your favorite local bodegas bec back across the Hudson befitting the cities deep ties with NYC. The sandwich is compact tight and just the perfect amount of filling, leaving you satisfied and satiated enough to start your day but not so stuffed that you're already ready for a nap. Grab one to go and eat it on the run or, should you have some time to kill and the weather is pleasant take the short walk though the lovely brownstone blessed neighborhood to the nearby leafy and serene Van Vorst park and soak up the atmosphere while enjoying the salty goodness.

The one with pesto, chicken cutlet, and tomato packed a ton of sharp garlic flavor in every bite, while the basic chicken parm with cheese was also delicious. Sandwiches are gargantuan--one easily feeds two hungry people. I would recommend going there if you have transportation (I did not) because they arrived a bit cold and very late on UberEats (but I don't fault the restaurant for any of that).

I ordered their Cold Sandwich #4 via Grubhub and I appreciate that their prices are the same as their website. The chicken cutlet is nicely seasoned and has a good thickness. It does get slightly overtaken by the mozzarella simply because of the size of it. The seeded semolina was soft, slightly chewy, but mostly fresh. I absolutely loved the chipotle mayo and cold crispness of the lettuce and fresh tomato that brightened each bite. I know this is a cold sandwich but I would honestly prefer it if the chicken cutlet and semolina bread was warm. They had other sandwiches that caught my eye, so I'll just have to go back soon. Good try!

If you been rocking since 1919, mi amor, I **have** to come see what's going on. That alone made me wanna pull up And let me tell you... I walked from Jersey City Heights down to downtown -- not a bad walk at all, un chin de cardio before breakfast . Real "treat yourself, mi amor" type of morning. Soon as I walked in... BABYYYY I felt like I got teleported straight into a little Italian market Shelves full of Italian goodies -- pastas, oils, snacks... I was like *yo quiero todo esto* It was giving *ciao bella, benvenuti, mangia mangia* vibes all day. The staff? Súper nice. No attitude, no rush -- just good energy. I told them it was my first time and asked what they're known for, and they really put me on No gatekeeping over here. My husband got the #7 (on a roll) I got the #8 (on a bagel) We sat outside and did what married people do... switched sandwiches halfway Now listen... mine was good -- turkey, egg, pesto... she was cute, she had flavor, estaba bien ‍ BUT HIS?! Ese sándwich estaba otro nivel. I don't know if it was the roasted peppers or what but *Dios mío*... delicioso, chef's kiss Only thing? Next time I'm switching my bagel for a roll porque ese pan estaba hitting different. The roll? Soft, fresh, perfecto. Also... let me tell you about the BACK They got frozen pastas, little Napoli-style dishes, a whole meat section that looked crazy fresh, and you can order cold sandwiches too. Esto no es solo un deli -- it's a whole Italian experience, okurrr. And yes... it's a *little* pricey, no te voy a mentir. Pero honestly? You get what you pay for. Calidad, sabor, vibes -- todo está ahí. I skipped the coffee porque estoy tratando de behave con el budget but next time? And I'm coming back for that banana pudding porque I'm obsessed no shame. They got a little patio if you wanna sit, or you can take your food to the park and have a whole picnic moment. Real main character energy. Ponte linda, grab your sandwich, and just vibe out. Overall? 5 stars Good food, good vibes, buena gente. CARGIANO'S said "treat yourself" y yo dije... say less

Turkey on the other one was cut thinly and very fresh. Bread was outstanding, we'll be back next time we're in the area.

Walking inside feels like stepping back into New York history. It's been a Lower East Side staple since 1888, and you can absolutely feel that old-school energy the second you grab your ticket at the door. The menu is huge and packed with classic Jewish deli staples, but I definitely have my routines down. My absolute favorites are the matzoh ball soup (the matzoh balls are massive and perfectly fluffy), the crispy potato latkes, and a bowl of their comforting chicken noodle soup. When it comes to the mains, their turkey sandwich is incredibly juicy and piled sky-high. These classic sandwiches are definitely made for sharing because they are massive, but if you aren't looking to split a giant portion, they also offer half-sandwich combos and platters which are great options. Just make sure you save a little bit of room for dessert before you leave...their black and white cookies are completely delicious and the perfect sweet finish to a massive deli meal. It's an absolute must-visit every single time I'm in the city.
