I like the coconut custard cup better as the filling is a mix of custard and grated coconut, making it more moist. The macaroon cup was piled high with a generous mound of grated coconut, and had a crusty topping. It was good but a little more dry. $1.55 for each cup or $18/dozen. The most delicious, light, and smooth filling of their egg custard is what Gods speak of! I was nervous so I only got two and now I'm upset I didn't get more. I went in late afternoon and most items were out of stock which tells me I messed up by not going in earlier, note to self for next time. It's been years since my last visit but the custard cups are STILL silky smooth goodness and melt in my mouth. I tried something that LOOKED like a powder sugared custard cup but it was coconutty. Also yummy but not as. And since I had a craving for a Filipino empanada, I tried the beef and the chicken ones. I do not recommend those. At all. Stop by like I do and enjoy an espresso or iced-coffee catered to your tastes by one of the fine employees there. Worst customer service/cashier. This place isn't a hidden gem. It's a subpar bakery without any competition coupled with entitled workers. A random guy selling plain white bread from Walgreen's will probably provide better service and have better quality than what they offer. It used to be good. The current roster of evening workers are garbage. You'd think you were serving them the way they act. Their mediocre offerings do not overcome the appallingly poor service. The custard cups here are amazing! The flaky crust & the sweetness from the custard is the perfect combination. They are $1.25 a piece and they're honestly worth it. They have an assortment of cookies, whole cakes and cupcakes on display but I didn't try any of them. They also have deli sandwiches, loaves of bread, Portuguese rolls, hard boiled eggs and water/soft drinks. Although the custard cups are 5 stars- the bakery is NOT! It's pretty much a hole in the wall and would more than likely fail a health inspection. They have a few tables so you can eat there but I do NOT suggest it. My advice would be to grab your custard cups and run out of there! The owners run a tight ship- they have rules on the walls for the customers and you must follow them or risk being thrown out. This bakery is hidden in the Greenville section of Jersey City. The great item here are the custard cups which are great. The cookies and pastries are pretty good too. They also have a deli section and they make a pretty good sandwich for a great price. They get five stars because they are open all night and it's hard to find anything to eat in Greenville late at night. Everybody who works here is polite and helpful. I cant believe after years of reading about the delicious custards I finally made it to Neptune Bakery. I was super excited to come here and I wasn't disappointed. It was late in the day and the place was empty which meant I could walk around without being rushed. I got two empanadas (chicken and beef), coconut custards and of course the regular custard cups. The empanadas were okay nothing special but I ate them anyway :) Coconut custards were good but a bit dense, one and you are full. Now the star of the show the custards cup, wow I think these little cups might have crack in them. They are so delicious, light and full of flavor. I just couldn't stop eating them and I'm so glad I listen to my inner fat kid and got 8. Why does this place has to be so far from me? Maybe that's why the tarts taste so much more delicious because of the extra effort I have to put in to get them. The tarts are a dollar each but it's worth it because of the yummy custard goodness and the crust is soft and the edges have a crunch but it doesn't fall apart like other tarts I've tasted. Okay, maybe not but they probably figured out that new customers would most likely walk in looking for some of their famous egg tarts. This place was recommended to me by one of my Instagram followers from Boston. Neptune supposedly makes "the best" egg tarts. Are they the best...are they!? Well... ...I must admit--the egg tarts here are pretty darn good. In fact, I may go as far as to say that these are among the best I have ever had. The custard is rich and sweet to a point where you could still eat two, three, or four more. They are smaller than the ones you can get from Portuguese bakeries, though. What I like best about the egg tarts here is the fact that the edges are a bit thick and crispy. Most of the ones I've eaten previously are soft, but these buck the trend. I underestimated this place because of the location; the building itself (on the corner of Neptune and JFK) doesn't really stand out. The inside is the same thing; it's just a basic bakery that sells an assortment of pastries, doughnuts, and a few Filipino products. The staff are kind and welcoming. Overall, I do think the egg tarts here deserve some praise. Are they truly "the best?" I'll let you decide for yourself. Personally, I don't mind coming back for another dozen. read more

Bought all three kinds of custard cakes; they were all $1.25 each. Portion is a little smaller than the one we used to have in other places. The original egg custard is the most authentic, with flaky thin crust, not like the original puff pastry, it's between cookie and puff crust; nothing I had before. The custard is creamy and not too sweet. Wish they could use more eggs. Nevertheless, everyone in the house approves!! The coconut cake was good, but we are not a big fan of coconut. The combination was good too, if you like coconut, that's a must try. Btw, I went home and heated up the egg custard cakes because they serve it as room temperature. read more
