Amazing, hidden gem in JC. Small menu of sandwiches and stuffed bread. I got the Bergen sandwich and it was delicious with prosciutto and balsamic. Cinnamon bread is out of this world. Very kind staff. Can't wait to go back and try more sandwiches. Also, loved hearing the grunge rock music while I waited. Fast service.

Hidden gem for sure. Only 7.50 for a sandwich that is well over a foot long, with $3 bakery items that are amazing. Service was quick and easy. We will most definitely be making a return trip or a few back to here.

Sandwich I made with this excellent bread.

I stopped in here this morning because I had a minute before a meeting and I was literally parked right outside. The guy was friendly, the place was clean. I got a couple of loaves of bread and a chocolate bread. Let me say, this is the best bread I've had in a long time, I knew I had to make a sandwich with it. PERFECT sandwich bread. I cooked up some sausage, potatoes l, & onions (I'm from Elizabeth,) excellent, excellent sandwich bread. Perfectly soft and moist without being mushy. I can't wait to go back and try the chicken parm! Maybe tomorrow. The chocolate bread was also great, definitely its own thing. Thanks second street bakery. Keep up the great work!

This Italian bakery is nestled in a residential area and might be easy to miss if you weren't looking for it. This place is small; standing room only. It is also cash only. However, this place probably has the best breakfast sandwich you can get in Jersey City simply because of the bread, which is made on site. The bread is just outstanding. I'm not sure if they don't usually have bacon or if it was just today. I got ham egg and cheese on a roll instead. However you can get the usual array of Italian subs as well as hot sandwiches. They also have some calzones and pepperoni rolls as well as some sweeter breads like cinnamon raisin. 10/10 will come back to try their other non breakfast subs etc.

Just another 5 star review for this awesome lowkey local bakery in JC. No parking but street parking was pretty easy. Small interior, and no indoor seating. Everything looked delicious and was out on display. I got the pepperoni roll and it was my favorite (so good I forgot to get pics) and the cinnamon roll was delicious as well! The rolls were room temp, and they were still really good - but they were even better when I brought them home and warmed them up in the oven. The prices are SO good for very decent sized rolls. Will definitely add this place to the rotation.

Yes yes yes! We will be coming back for sure! Despite not having seats or being a traditional cafe, the baked goods here hit. the. spot. We got a pepperoni and cheese roll (kind of like a calzone but better), ricotta pastry and chocolate roll, and all three came out to $11 and the sizes were generous. Second Street Bakery does not skimp on the ingredients, and the pastries were field with pepperoni, ricotta and chocolate - everything was evenly distributed so every bite you took was perfect. Highly recommend this spot! The server was really kind and no frills. We look forward to returning and trying their sandwiches too!

Friendly service, great prices and delicious food. What's not to love? I guess the only thing I could wish for is calorie free food but I guess that's asking for too much.

This spot has been chillin' in the cut like peroxide. Off the beaten path lies this gem of a bakery. Right next to Antique...I swear ya'll related cuz I go in there too and drop $20 on carbs like it ain't no thing. I want to hate this place for the hours, but the hours make it this elusive prize open from 9 AM to 2 PM. Impossible for a school teacher like myself during the week to get to. But thanks to remote learning, anything is possible. Get one of everything.

Amazing spot. Little place cash only but wow ! I heard about it when we moved here and we walked over. The chocolate bread is awesome and the rest is dynamite. Go and enjoy I know you will.

What a place. As good as any deli in Jersey City, a city plentiful with high quality deli options. From what I've gathered, getting there early is the move as they quickly run out of fresh breads and other menu items. I stopped in around 1-2pm, and, despite the limited options, I knew I came to the right place. I ordered a hot pastrami and Swiss sandwich as well as a hot roast beef w/ mutz and gravy. $6 sandwiches! Unreal value. The sandwiches were incredible. I cannot wait to go back in the morning for the full experience. And the woman working behind the counter was a true delight. Older Italian woman, writing down orders with a dull pencil on a ripped piece of loose leaf paper. A perfect, timeless system. LOVE it.

This bakery is delicious! We were tipped off by family to visit, as this bakery has been around for quite some time. Try the fresh-made pizza, or the ricotta calzone for a quick/delicious treat! Take home the sausage or chocolate bread to enjoy during the week. They also make amazing Italian Subs, as well as baked platters. Do not miss!

I ordered their Cold Sandwich #4 via Grubhub and I appreciate that their prices are the same as their website. The chicken cutlet is nicely seasoned and has a good thickness. It does get slightly overtaken by the mozzarella simply because of the size of it. The seeded semolina was soft, slightly chewy, but mostly fresh. I absolutely loved the chipotle mayo and cold crispness of the lettuce and fresh tomato that brightened each bite. I know this is a cold sandwich but I would honestly prefer it if the chicken cutlet and semolina bread was warm. They had other sandwiches that caught my eye, so I'll just have to go back soon. If you been rocking since 1919, mi amor, I **have** to come see what's going on. That alone made me wanna pull up And let me tell you... I walked from Jersey City Heights down to downtown -- not a bad walk at all, un chin de cardio before breakfast . Real "treat yourself, mi amor" type of morning. Soon as I walked in... BABYYYY I felt like I got teleported straight into a little Italian market Shelves full of Italian goodies -- pastas, oils, snacks... I was like *yo quiero todo esto* It was giving *ciao bella, benvenuti, mangia mangia* vibes all day. The staff? Súper nice. No attitude, no rush -- just good energy. I told them it was my first time and asked what they're known for, and they really put me on No gatekeeping over here. Also... let me tell you about the BACK They got frozen pastas, little Napoli-style dishes, a whole meat section that looked crazy fresh, and you can order cold sandwiches too. Esto no es solo un deli -- it's a whole Italian experience, okurrr. And yes... it's a *little* pricey, no te voy a mentir. Pero honestly? You get what you pay for. Calidad, sabor, vibes -- todo está ahí. I skipped the coffee porque estoy tratando de behave con el budget but next time? And I'm coming back for that banana pudding porque I'm obsessed no shame. Walking inside feels like stepping back into New York history. It's been a Lower East Side staple since 1888, and you can absolutely feel that old-school energy the second you grab your ticket at the door. The menu is huge and packed with classic Jewish deli staples, but I definitely have my routines down. My absolute favorites are the matzoh ball soup (the matzoh balls are massive and perfectly fluffy), the crispy potato latkes, and a bowl of their comforting chicken noodle soup. When it comes to the mains, their turkey sandwich is incredibly juicy and piled sky-high. These classic sandwiches are definitely made for sharing because they are massive, but if you aren't looking to split a giant portion, they also offer half-sandwich combos and platters which are great options. Just make sure you save a little bit of room for dessert before you leave...their black and white cookies are completely delicious and the perfect sweet finish to a massive deli meal. It's an absolute must-visit every single time I'm in the city.

We were exhausted,…read morebut we still took an Uber from our Times Square hotel because we wanted our very first meal in New York to be at our favorite place. Unlike my previous visit, the gentleman who prepared our sandwich was incredibly kind and welcoming. He offered us a sample to taste, smiled, and made us feel appreciated as customers. He deserves recognition for his professionalism. Unfortunately, that's where the good experience ended. By the time we received our sandwiches, it was around 10:30 PM. Even though there were still many customers eating inside, the staff had already stacked chairs upside down on the tables. It looked awful and completely unprofessional. No customer should walk into a restaurant and see that while people are still dining. We were exhausted after a cross-country flight and only intended to sit for five minutes. My husband had already taken a seat while I was waiting for our food. As soon as I walked over with our sandwiches, an employee marched up to us and, in an extremely rude, hostile, and disrespectful manner, ordered us to leave because our food had been packed to go. My husband politely explained that the restaurant didn't close for another 30 minutes, many customers were still eating inside, and that we would be gone in five minutes. He was respectful and simply asked for a little understanding. Instead of showing even the slightest bit of courtesy, the employee continued speaking to us with an arrogant and dismissive attitude, repeatedly insisting that we leave immediately. He wasn't asking--he was throwing us out. We said only one sentence: "We'll be out in five minutes." That was enough for him to treat us as if we were completely unwelcome. We picked up our food and left. We ended up eating our sandwiches in the back of an Uber on the way to our hotel. By then, the excitement of finally arriving in New York and visiting one of our favorite places had been completely ruined. Do you notice that I've written this entire review without even mentioning how the sandwich tasted? That's because when an employee feels entitled to humiliate customers and chase them out like this, the food no longer matters. What disappoints me even more is that no manager stepped in. That tells me this behavior is either accepted or ignored. This was our final visit. We will never return. A business can survive for a while with the mentality of "If one customer doesn't come back, another will." But that attitude eventually destroys the reputation that made the business famous in the first place!! I do have the video and the photo of the disrespectful employee, I can provide it if the owners just message me I avoid sharing his picture here to be respectful.
