Goodness, I was pleasantly surprised by the authentic Mediterranean quality of this joint in the middle of Birmingham Alabama. Make sure to get either the gyro with a kebab and also a Greek side salad. They're both die for and then some. read more

I absolutely love this place. The food is excellent, however I wished the service matched it. I feel that they are always under staffed. The waitresses are constantly running around during busy times. This past time I went because I did not have much time and we needed somewhere quick to eat. Well, the food was quick then we waited about 15 minutes for the check while the waitress took care of other tables. Very good fresh food. I had the lentil soup, it was made by the owners grandmother, and you could taste the love inside it. My friends had the lamb kebabs and were greatly pleased. This is a great little hidden gem in Cahaba Heights. Great Mediterranean food at reasonable prices with good service and decent wine selection. Most dishes come out in large Pyrex dishes and are big enough to share with another person. The lamb is delicious and the hummus is very good. The kafka balls are especially good and the tabouli is excellent. Birmingham doesn't have many good patio spots, and this one is better than most of the others - even though the view is less than fantastic. I've been going there for years and I've never had a bad experience. A must! read more

I have to say I was a little skeptical about this place, but I was so wrong. The food is absolutely incredible. The gyro is my favorite. It is not fatty or too dry. The Olive Branch is an excellent Restaurant! I love to eat here when we visit! The people are so friendly and personable, they care! The food is delicious! I'm critical of Mediterranean food and Love the food here. There are so many good choices that I will sometimes order lots of appetizers and sides so I can have a little of each. Lamb kabob platter is generous with Greek salad (excellent house-made dressing), wild rice (flavorful), grilled vegetables (yum!) and lamb. Delicious! Also love the fried cauliflower appetizer (easy to share and great with tzakiki sauce), falafel (little kick and delicious!), and the chicken soup rivals Zoes! I make my own stuffed grape leaves in and prefer those rather than at restaurant. I highly recommend The Olive Branch in Birmingham. read more

I had the worst experience I have had in a long time with restaurant service at Olive Branch today. My friend and I came for lunch and when we walked in the waiter looked at us and told us to "go to the table in the corner". Which should have been our hint that we were about to have a terrible experience. He took our order, brought our drinks, and after that didn't really engage with our table. He didn't provide us ANY refills. We sat with empty glasses for most of the meal. When the food was ready, after 35 minutes, which is ridiculous considering its business lunch rush, he threw the plates down. He then disappeared even after I asked him to please bring us our checks. When he eventually made eye contact and brought the checks, our payments sat at the end of the table ready to be processed for fifteen minutes. I had to ask another waitress to run them for us. During this time when we needed our payments processed, he was talking to his friends who were customers and showing them pictures on his phone. I was almost late to class and barely had anytime to eat. The service was absolutely unacceptable. We will not be returning. read more

We have eaten here several times and the food is just amazing and the service is always on point, personal, and welcoming. The owner often visits the table to see how you are doing to check on how your meal is going, very smart and very welcoming. We rave about the falafels they are the best we've ever had, so fresh and full of flavor, the gyro is amazing and we love the way the grill it with some crispy edges a real treat. The chicken dishes are great the chicken is always tender cooked perfect and full of flavor. The steak kabob is one of my favorites, they use a quality cut and it is so tender and full of flavor. The atmosphere is charming and we love it when the weather is good because they have an amazing patio with a great view of the area. All the staff here is great, but we always ask for Jennifer, she's wonderful and so attentive and knows the menu backwards. And we always say hello to the kitchen staff, with the open kitchen it's easy to do and they do such a great job!! read more

I've always heard great things about this place and finally made it this weekend. Extremely small family owned/ operated restaurant in Cahaba Heights/ maybe 10-12 tables small with a bar area. The tables are close and unfortunately my wife and I heard far more of our neighbors conversation than we wanted. Worse yet the two couples behind us were apparently in a heated competition to see who had the loudest most obnoxious laugh. (4 way tie for those wondering) Cramped quarters and all that aside the service was exemplary. The lady waiting on us had the entire dining area and handled it well. She was very friendly and personable as were the owner and her mother in law who all made it a point to speak to everyone. The food was excellent! Some of the best Mediterranean food I've had. We started with some first-rate caliber hummus, my wife had a chicken gyro with a side salad, and I had the traditional gyro with wild rice. The gyros we ordered were the amped up versions with peppers onions and feta which I originally was a bit concerned I should have remained pure.... glad I didn't. Excellent! Highly recommend! One thing I liked in particular is they had an ala carte menu so I was able to convince my wife to try stuffed grape leaves and falafel in a very inexpensive manner. We quite enjoyed them both. The falafel in particular was perfectly crisp and delicious and it will be a portion of my next order from the Olive Branch which I intend to make frequently. Finally some great food in Birmingham to quench my palette! A quaint small local place with a nice outdoor patio for when the weather is nice. Service was prompt and attentive despite the lunch rush hour. Food was perfectly seasoned and delicious. Amazing lunch specials; lot of bang for your buck! Had me a gyro lunch special that included perfectly cooked mixed rice pilaf, delicious hummus and pita, and a very fresh tabbouleh. Aaaand I added a nicely done baklava. All for 9 dollars!!! The Olive Branch is SO GOOD!!! My fiancé and I went for lunch today and got the kofta lunch special and a chicken gyro. We ate every last bite and then ordered more kofta to go because it was so delicious!! We also split a pistachio baklava which was he perfect end to a delicious lunch! I love love LOVE the Olive Branch. On every visit the staff has been THE nicest and the services is super fast. I'm extremely particular about hummus and falafel & both are the best I've ever experienced. They also have the softest pita bread around. I'm not a fan of rice but their wild rice side is the softest, creamiest, warmest & I eat every bit on my visits. The dining room is small & fills up fast.
