I've been visiting HB Family Dentistry for a couple years now. All great experiences, from a…read moreroutine cleaning to most recently having a crown put in. They're very accommodating and they really keep on top of scheduling. Super clean office and rooms, and I've noticed they've ramped up sanitation in response to the 'rona.

I came here on a family recommendation but did not have a great experience with the office…read more Dr. Phuong is very kind as are the staff here. Very friendly and seem to genuinely care - I'll give them that. However, this was my first time at this office (I'm looking for a new dentist after moving) and immediatly the assistant took me to a room and said "we're going to do a huge amount of x-rays so settle in." I asked to confirm that they were covered by insurance and she said she'd check. It took 40 minutes to do more x-rays than I've ever done at any dentist office. I again said "and you're sure these are covered" and the assistant said "yes, your insurance covers this set once every 5 years." I was annoyed. They cover these once every 5 years and you're using this benefit and I haven't even been introduced to the dentist yet? Seemed very strange and like they were just glad I was there so they could bill the insurance. The cleaning itself was long as well. An hour. It was done by Dr. Phuong AND an assistant. I've never had two people for a cleaning. I asked why so long and they said they always schedule an hour. They use the electronic tooth scraper thing but they had a separate water pick, separate sucker, and separate mirror all in my mouth at the same time. I have a bad gag reflex and this was too many instruments in my mouth at once. The assistant held the water tube, and rested the suck on the side of my mouth, which kept getting twisted. I told them of my gag reflex repeatedly but it seemed there was not much they could do. I explained that my previous dentist had an electronic scraper too but we didn't have separate water and sucker in my mouth the whole time too. They found this surprising. I asked a hygienist friend about this later and she said it sounded like the electronic scraper was broken as they always have the water built in. She said it's really dentists choice whether they have the sucker in your mouth the whole time. My last dentist didn't (and certainly never hung it on the corner of my mouth). Bu the kicker is that a few days later, I got a message from the receptionist that said I have a $50 copay and my insurance will cover cleanings every 3 months (instead of 6) so I should call her to schedule an earlier appointment. First of all - why would I come in twice as often (4 times a year!) just because my insurance would pay for it? My teeth are in good shape. I haven't had a cavity in over a decade. I'm young. I'm not going to do that just because my insurance will cover it. Secondly, I've never had a co-pay for a cleaning. I called my insurance to see if something had changed. They said that this dentist billed for "periodontal cleaning" instead of "profalaxis cleaning." I called and asked the receptionist and she said "oh, that's because you have a history of deep cleaning." Um, no I do not. I've never had a deep cleaning in my life. Even if I had - why would you charge more for something just because someone had a history of something else? This cleaning was just like all the other cleanings I've done in my life. She said it must be a mistake, she asked if I was sure I hadn't had a deep cleaning before (Yeah, I'm sure!), and she'd get ahold of my insurance to fix it. I feel like this office was more interested in what they can bill my insurance for than my actual care. I won't be returning.

From the start, he developed a thoughtful, personalized treatment plan that I've been able to follow with confidence. Dr. Fu is not only highly knowledgeable, but also approachable and genuinely takes the time to get to know his patients. As someone who has always felt anxious about dental visits, I truly appreciate how comfortable and at ease he makes me during every procedure. His calm demeanor and clear communication make a significant difference. The entire experience has been excellent. The front desk staff ensures a smooth and efficient check-in process, and Andre, his dental assistant, is exceptional--professional, knowledgeable, and attentive. Overall, I highly recommend Dr. Fu and his team. If I could give more than five stars, I absolutely would.

If you're a little afraid of cleanings ask for numbing before. To be clear it didn't hurt at all and they were very quick about it. I would just ask Andre before the dentist gets there because the dentist is a little more down to business..still very nice and gentle. He was very direct explaining where my cavities were and where they were starting and what I need to do for prevention. As Andre finished my cleaning he gave me some more tips and assumptions and corrections about products I was using. You see all your X-rays and teeth scan as they're doing it. I learned a lot in this visit. Very happy. Coming back for my fillings. Medi-cal covered everything.

I have always been afraid to go to the dentist and waited until I had major dental issues. I looked through my insurance packet and by chance picked Dr. Gordon. They were able to fit me in immediately and I had an appointment with Dr. Baker another dentist at that office. He was awesome!!! He helped me figure out what issues to fix first and helped me check to see what insurance covered and gave me a detailed list of prices and what was urgent and needed to be addressed immediately. The very next day he saw me and fixed major issues. He is very gentle and could hardly feel the injections to numb my mouth. That's the scariest part!! If your looking for a dentist who has integrity and will make you feel at ease Dr. Baker is the dentist for you!! His chair side manner is so kind and he is literally amazing at his craft!! Don't neglect you teeth due to fear. This dentist will help you and you'll feel so much better!! Very clean office and state of the art equipment. They do everything under magnification, it's crazy!! Very happy to have found Dr. Baker and will be a lifetime patient!!

I specifically wanted a UCLA-trained dentist because I have always appreciated the techniques, attention to detail, and level of care they provide. I am so happy I found Huntington Beach Prosthodontics. Dr. Janelle Cheong did my cleaning, and she was incredibly thorough, kind, and gentle. She carefully examined every tooth, identified any problem areas, and took the time to explain everything to me. She never made me feel rushed, and I truly appreciated how genuine and caring she was. You can tell she really cares about her patients. I also saw Dr. Favian Cheong to repair a cracked filling, and I think that's the real test of a dental office. He was exceptionally gentle. I honestly didn't even feel the numbing injection. Throughout the procedure, he checked on me constantly, made sure I was comfortable, and gave me small breaks when I needed them. I also had a white spot on one of my teeth that I didn't think could be fixed. Dr. Cheong explained that it was actually a small surface cavity and was able to treat it quickly without any numbing. He explained everything he was doing and made sure I was comfortable every step of the way. I've always struggled with going to the dentist because of a traumatic childhood experience. On top of that, I've recently been dealing with health issues affecting my ears, so dental visits have been especially difficult. This is the first office in a long time where I truly felt at peace. Another thing I really appreciated was the front office staff. They carefully reviewed all of my treatment costs before any work was done, so there were no surprises or confusing billing afterward. One thing that really sets this practice apart is that the dentists perform the cleanings themselves, with assistance from their dental assistants. That level of involvement makes a noticeable difference. It was one of the most thorough cleanings I've ever had. Dr. Janelle Cheong and Dr. Favian Cheong recently took over this practice, and it shows how much they care about providing exceptional dentistry. They are warm, genuine people who treat patients with kindness, respect, and compassion. If you're looking for a dentist who is honest, highly skilled, incredibly gentle, and truly takes the time to care for you, I highly recommend Huntington Beach Prosthodontics.
