Happened to find this place on Yelp while I was out shopping with my wife and it was a great! the decor inside the restaurant is comfortable , with very friendly staff that is fast to act on your needs. The food was very good : I had the Pork loin with potatoes vegetables and mushrooms in a garlic sauce and my wife had the Shrimp in white wine garlic steam sauce with yellow rice ,fresh potato chips and sauté garlic cabbage. Fresh bread and water of course was on the table. To end the meal we finished with the house desert "yummm". At the end of it all the waiter gave us a desert liquor of amaretto shots on the house. I wanted to love this place because the service was 5 star, but the food and the 70's throwback décor was a letdown. The wood paneling, 70's catering room chairs, dust collecting fake flowers on the tables and plants as well as an old apron on the wall doesn't sit right with you. These people haven't updated in years. Don't get me started on the mounted deer head either. The kale and sausage soup was very plentiful and tasty. We were off to a good start. But, a Portugese restaurant should have stellar paella. The seafood was frozen and cooked rubbery, the rice was watery and the dish had no seasoning whatsoever. My husband's steak had about 3 pounds of grizzle on it. Gross. Another Yelper wrote about the house dessert that I decided to try. They put a face on it with chocolate and cherry sauce like I was a 5-year old. Just like tiramisu. Nothing special. I came here for a family dinner. It was my first time and it was very nice. The atmosphere was very cozy and quiet. I had the garlic shrimp and it was amazing! By far one of the best that I've had. After that, I had the skirt steak which is served with a side plate of rice and vegetables. It was delicious. They give you a very good amount of food too. My husband had the garlic ribs and he loved it. I would definitely recommend this place. We had the blue sangria. First time ever having it. Definitely try it when you go there. For dessert we had pudding, serradura, and rice pudding. It was all very good. Serradura was my favorite by far! I suggest you stop in. You'll love it. read more

I DO NOT recommend this place to ANYONE. I am of Portuguese tradition, both parents born in Portugal, and will tell you this is the worse Portuguese I have ever had. Steak sandwich was the size of a fast food burger, dry and the bread was greasy. Fries tasted like they've been fried in 3 weeks oil. Lady at the bar/counter was RUDE and when I asked her what they had to drink, she said we only have Sumol. Okay so they mean to tell me they don't sell anything but Sumol?? I get it, it's a Portuguese drink but why do they not sell anything else? Besides alcohol, which obviously I can't take that on the go. I don't ever write negative reviews for ANYTHING because I feel like every establishment can have a bad day every once in a while. But this was by far the worst food I have had in a very long time. Aside from the awful food and ingredients, the atmosphere was awful. Service wasn't bad, but nothing could have saved this meal. Out of a party of 5, nobody liked their meal. That is unheard of! I ordered the Crab-stuffed Shrimp entree, and boy, what a mistake that was. 19 dollars for a dish with imitation crab meat? I was furious when I noticed. Wow. This was a real throw back to the bad bad days of the '80s. White iceberg lettuce and plastic tomatoes, chicken marsala and chicken with garlic sauce with IDENTICAL brown sauce for each dish. Restaurant cannot decide whether it's a dive or an upscale restaurant, but just because you offer bad food at high prices, that static-y 80's am radio and rubbery meat tells you that you are fooling yourself if you think you are a "special occasion" restaurant. I love this place. Their portions are beyond huge and they're delicious. I had a huge seafood pasta and it was like an entire pot worth of pasta and all kinds of yummy delicious seafood. I used to go to this place regularly when it was Lisbon to Rome. This was my second trip since the change. Sangria- very nice. I nice bowl of black garlic olives was a special touch since I'm not supposed to have the bread. I went for the Mariscada tonight and I was not disappointed. Very nice. Rice was good. Portions are generous. Dessert-flan was house made but a bit too brown. Excellent service. Very friendly local crowd at the bar. Decor isn't the best but, hell, the food will bring me back. Use to come here years ago when they had a different owner and different cook. I went here recently and the place is horrible. The staff is very unfriendly unless the waitress knows you. I normally don't rate the restaurants I go to, but I'll make an exception for this restaurant. The food is delicious and atmosphere is friendly. When I had my kitchen renovated, I almost regularly ordered chicken or rib trays. Each tray serves a choice of chicken or rib, yellow rice, homemade potato chips , bread, and regetables. Salad can be ordered as a side dish. Each tray can easily serve two-three adults. since the food is made fresh, it typically take 30 minutes to prepare an order. But it is well worth the wait. I recommend this restaurant to those who enjoy fine Portuguese or Latin food. read more

Oliveiras is traditional portuguese. The food is authentic and excellent. The staff is friendly and accommodating, and the prices are very reasonable. The wife and I lived in the portuguese section of Newark and Oliveiras is right up there with the best. Would definitely recommend. read more

Went for dinner last night. Ordered stuffed flounder with crabmeat. Flounder tasted fishy and stuffing had no crabmeat. Sent back and reordered Veal with Lemon and butter. Three pieces of veal swimming in lemon juice about an inch deep. Was served same potatoes, rice and cabbage from fish dinner, just put on a new plate--they were cold. Veal was so immersed in lemon it was soggy and ruined. Chef needs Gordon Ramsay or Robert Irvine. Will not be back and will not recommend. read more

My coworker and I were on extended business travel and we were looking for a place near our job site that was going to offer us the ability to sit down for a while. We had a moment and fast food was not going to be for dinner. While the area on Roosevelt does not have many options, after driving back and forth between major intersections we opted for this restaurant. As we pulled in the overall decor out side is not striking as very nice. We walked in the front door and were shocked as we stepped into a bar. I immediately thought uhoh this is not the place that I intended. Pretty quickly we realize that the regular dining room area is in the back. We made our way back to a table and was seated. Now we're cooking! White table cloth, comfortable surroundings in a Tuscan style themed dining room. We were immediately served our drinks of ice tea and water and given fresh bread rolls. We both decided to have the special which was the Prime Rib with a house salad, yellow rice and boiled cabbage. The special price was listed as $14.00, which we both agree is a pretty good deal. As hungry meat eaters we were now content to relax and enjoy our salad as we waited for our main entrée. When our server brought our plates I actually laughed out loud as the dinner plates were bigger than I have ever seen. I think they were actually supposed to be platters? I wish I had a tape measure but I swear it had to be at least 30 inches across. My buddy immediately challenged the waiter and asked if what we ordered was Prime Rib, as it had bones in it. Our server assured us both that indeed it was Prime Rib. As our server left we both looked at each other and we really didn't understand why the plate looked like a bony fatty grisly price of meat. I told my buddy that at least they got the cow part right, he said it could be horse? I replied that it is likely cow but it didn't even come with Au Jus or horseradish. After attempting to saw through this very very tough piece of meat I decided I had enough asked for the waiter again. My friend continued to eat his as his was cooked less than mine even though we ordered it exactly the same way. The waiter got very frustrated and states that we ordered the prime rib even though I had pulled a picture of what it was supposed to look like on my phone. He left for the kitchen and came back with a raw chunk and confidently reaffirmed that we ordered the prime rib. After a few rounds and going back and forth between us we came to realize that it is "grilled prime rib" as per the main menu but the special menu hadn't specified grilled. Overall the waiter removed mine from my ticket as I couldn't eat it. I will give three stars as he did end up taking the meal off the check but overall the entire experience was poor. I ended up stopping for a sub sandwich for my "dinner". I won't be going back. read more

Undesireable and awkward! First off there were only 4 locals at the bar, me, and 2 wait staff. My bread, salad, drinks, & main meal all arrived within minutes of each other. The waitress/bar tender was too busy chatting with the locals to notice that I was a party of one & asked if I would be sharing my meal??? With who? The shrimp was excellent, although it was served with tomato sauce instead of cocktail sauce. The rice was dry & bland, the kettle chips, which consumed 1/2 of my plate, were stale and limp, the bleu cheese salad dressing was not made with any bleu cheese. I had no intentions of complaining about the food until I had enough of him repetitively scolding me like a child for not eating all of my dinner. He gave me a condescending apology. I paid cash, left a minimal tip and walked to my vehicle with the receipt only to be followed to my vehicle by the waiter who proceeded to tap on my window telling me he needs the receipt, which I reluctantly handed over. read more
