Wonderful Brookline Jewish Style Deli. The staff is super friendly and helpful when making menu choices. We got a fabulous greeting when we approached the counter to place our order. Our bagles with cream cheese and lox were fresh and tasty. Our ice coffees was perfect for the occasion (free refills were nice too). The atmosphere is simple but well appointed with several great pictures on the wall. The owner Alon, spent a great deal of time talking to us and making us feel right at home. Parking can be a bit challenging and requires pay to park meters. This will be our go to deli spot whenever we are in Boston. read more

I'm from New York City, I've had the best bagels, and these did not come close. The bagel was inedible, black, and burnt. They served me black, burnt, inedible bagels, three different times I went there. Then I went for a fourth time and they charged me twice for one extra cream cheese I got. Three of us went in yesterday around 11:45 for a quick lunch and we were all very happy: I had the cold turkey sandwich on a challah roll, the coleslaw and a secret dressing were on the sandwich and it was delicious. I'm also not a huge lover of pickles, but the nice big one accompanying the sandwich was good! Other dishes were the chicken salad on a bagel and a bagel, schmear and veggies. Whoa Mama Mamaleh's rocks! I have really liked everything I have tried here. From super fresh veggies in salad and on bagels, creamy schmears, solid tuna/whitefish salad, and flavorful meats (salami + corned beef tried), and great breads. Love the selection of Dr. Browns soda including my fave diet cream soda, rugelach, pickles, and fun extras like Zab's hot sauce and house dill/herb seasoning. Staff has always been cool with my indecisive, overly specific order and Brookline location has a cute lively little dining area. It's like a bit of Reins from CT here in Brookline! Take out was great! Beautiful design on the paper that they wrapped the pickles and sandwich in. After telling my mom (who lives far away) I was sick she ordered of matzah ball soup for me from here, which was a wonderful treat. The pieces of chicken were delicious, and all the vegetables were also wonderful- al dente. The matzah ball was pillowy. My boyfriend had the pastrami sandwich. He really enjoyed it. Came here on a Sunday morning with my boyfriend and his dad. We were looking for a knockout bagel with a casual vibe, and we got exactly what we were looking for. The bagel store that doesn't let you buy bagels. I went into Mamaleh's excited to order some bagels and bring them home to my roommates. I order a scallion cream cheese and 6 bagels to go, only for them to say they are out of these items. I look over and can see the amount of bagels that are left (there are plenty). They notice me looking and say that they are only selling bagel sandwiches. I ask if I can order only 3 bagels and get denied again. Why have bagels to go on the menu if you're not allowing me to purchase them?!? Why do you sell to go cream cheese cartons if you don't want people to buy bagels to go?!? read more

We tried the pastrami sandwich and the French toast. The French toast was great--dense, flavorful, and moist--but the sandwich barely had any meat. Maybe only three slices at most, which was really disappointing. High price for a gluten free bagel with just a few pieces of fatty corned beef. I was told that the gluten free bread was no longer because it was too expensive. Service from staff was rough. Sat in the window seats with a friend and there were flies all over the windows. Gross. I only went here once a few years ago and it was good. On a Tuesday morning, I decided to treat myself to a fancier-than-usual lunch before heading to work. At 8am, I arrived at Mamaleh's. As I perused the menu, I initially wanted a breakfast bagel of some sort. However, noticing that the establishment serves their lunch menu all day, I decided on a chopped liver sandwich ($12) and a large coffee ($3, 16oz). I paid at the counter, took a number, sat down, and received my order within 5 minutes. Being the only customer at the time probably helped. Notably, the establishment adds a 10% surcharge in lieu of tip. Of course, should one want to increase the tip, the establishment would gladly oblige. The chopped liver sandwich consisted of chopped chicken liver, lettuce, tomato, red onion, mustard, and rye bread. The liver had been chopped down to an almost pate-like consistency and had no off flavors. Interestingly, at some point I thought I tasted mushroom (most likely my mind thought of mushroom pate and played some tricks on me). The various vegetables all seemed crisp and fresh; nothing disappoints me more than soggy lettuce. The accompanying half pickle had a light brine with no acerbic aftertaste. That made for a refreshingly light and crisp taste. The coffee seemed like a decent house coffee. At the $3 price point, I don't expect some fancy single-origin pour over. A not super dark roast, not burnt, and not over extracted coup will suffice, and it did. Lastly, the lady that brought out my order seemed genuinely nice, almost neighborly. She warned me about the extra hot coffee, suggested I remove the lid, and grabbed a napkin for me. When the sandwich arrived with the half pickle, she remarked that my plate was "smiling at me". Small banter, but it really took the atmosphere from "that random deli across the street" to "the neighborhood deli". read more

First and last time! trying to find a kosher or even kosher style deli like you have in NY....well Boston is not the place. decided to try Mamaleh's...big disappointment. prices high, quality low. ordered the 1/2 Pastrami and 1/2 Corned Beef. 4 -6 rubbery slices of gray meat on lackluster rye bread and a pickle that had seen better days. this is the second time I got takeout from mamaleh's in Brookline the first time I got the corn beef sandwich with the deli, mustard and rye bread. It was very good they serve it hot. It was very tasty and on the leaner side which is what I prefer . I also got the frozen knishes, which when heated up we're very good as well got five pieces of rugaleh , and it's the best I've had in years it's almost impossible to find good rugaleh in Boston.. today I got a pastrami sandwich and a turkey sandwich. The pastrami was good nice and lean the turkey sandwich with the homemade Russian dressing was very tasty. I got the matzoh ball soup, which was great not as good as my mom's was but pretty good and lastly, the pickles that they give you with each sandwich excellent I thought I was eating good pickles that I had purchased at Whole Foods. Stayed in brookline just down the street from Mamaleh. My son has peanut and treenut allergy and we were accommodated. We ate here a total of 4 times and he was fine~ My kids loved strolling down the road to sit down on the table and bench outdoors enjoying their bagel and/or pastries. Coffee was very good, both cold and hot. Its dark roast and has too body to it. Salami egg and cheese sandwich was good but it had too much mustard and had to scrap it off. It was good but not worth $8.5 as it was mostly egg. Chocolate and Cinnamon Babka Muffins were yummy~ they arent flaky, but they are more of a brioche consistency: Soft and Chewy. It was my little 5 year olds fav~ Bagel, Schmear, and Vegetables bagel was SOOO GOOD! My husband cant stand cucumbers so if you are like him ask them to leave them off! My 9 year old and I loved it. Now, the Ida... we discovered this on our last visit and I think it was the best!
