A friend of mine was always raving about the chili from Ollie's. What she didn't tell me was that the other soups are just as rave worthy!! I got the chili topped with cheese and the house special African peanut soup. The chili with big cubes of cheese had tons of meat and a deep, rich flavor. Gobbled up with tortilla chips made it a meal! I had no expectations about the soup since I'd never heard of it. Loads of shredded chicken, tomatoes, butternut squash and yes, peanuts in a rich, creamy and savory base. Almost had a hint of coconut milk in it. Delish! A crusty hunk of bread would be a perfect pairing. There was another soup on the menu but I'll have to go back for that one. And I can't wait! Next time I'll eat there at one of the brookside tables. Really good soft serve ice cream! The food items used to be good, but I recently bought chicken fingers "to go" for my grandchildren. It took forever and the chicken was burnt. If I had ordered them "to stay" and eat there, I would have brought them back, because they were inedible! The kids could only eat the fries. Nestled underneath the roadway of Route 97 in Callicoon right by the Viaduct Bridge is the Callicoon Creamery. You would think that it just serves ice cream treats, but you had better think again. This place has everything you could think of, (and some you couldn't even imagine), all at extremely reasonable prices. They always have a Panini or wrap in a combination that you would just not have thought to make. The grilled vegetable Panini with pesto sauce is my favorite, with a side of batter dipped mushrooms or zucchini. Yum!!! Something new they have added this year is the Tuesday and Thursday night chicken and rib BBQ. Starting at $8.99 you just can't beat it. So many people flock there that believe it or not...reservations are taken as they tend to run out of food, so call ahead to reserve yours. (887-4480) There is no where in Callicoon that beats this place for sandwiches and casual food, and the prices can't be beat. For the past 2 years I have been suggesting this place as a dining option to guests at the local hotel and everyone feels like I do, they love the place. The owner has taken a dark, dreary and unclean little building and cleaned it up almost beyond recognition, and then transformed it into somewhere to go for lunch or dinner. With her imagination and playfulness with foods, there is always something new that she has come up with and leaves you wanting to go back again and again. It's not just for ice cream anymore. If you DO go for dessert, try the Cannolli ice cream. It's out of this world. As there is only outdoor seating, The Creamery is not opened in the winter. (I have been seen counting the days until it opens in April.) Even though you wait on yourself and you eat outside, the place gets PACKED. Don't be afraid to take your food home. This is a little ice cream stand just outside of town. I've been to plenty of ice cream stands in my day, and have the cholesterol to prove it, and this one is definitely not one of the better ones. I can't speak to their other products, but their ice cream is undistinguished, and appeared to be pretty much the same as you could get from the Peck's market down the street. The only difference was the price: exorbitant. Here's some advice: order from the Peck's and save a ton of money, and probably get equal or even better ice cream. read more

Anyone who remembers how absolutely disgusting the old place was should be nothing but thankful that there's something like this in Callicoon now. The old place was great if you're a fan of diarrhea. This place is awesome if you like good food at a reasonable price. The ice cream is pretty standard fare. I disagree that it's the same stuff you'd get out of a tub in the freezer at Peck's, but I could see how someone from the city, who is accustomed to cold stone things of the like, could get their panties in a twist. The most interesting thing is their food menu, specifically the weekly (daily?) specials. Their pulled pork sandwich is solid. It isn't the best I've ever had (this is Callicoon, NY, after all!), but as I said it's solid. I've ordered it more than once if that says anything. The Cuban sandwich style panini was phenomenally good. It tastes nothing like a traditional Cuban sandwich but I don't care. It was that good. Prices are nothing worth writing about either way. Not cheap, not expensive. I haven't been to their barbecues but I've heard good things. The only caveat here is that service is slow. It's not just slow in general, it's even slow for this laid back area. read more

A good product never makes us for poor service. The seating is great, location nice and the food is ok. Negative atmosphere brought on by the owners attitude. Unreliable inventory makes for limited choices. Parking is dangerous. Unreliable hours. Closing while people still in line waiting. Just all around not a very friendly place to go. First off, let me say this is one family and children friendly place. A plus if you have rambunctious children that are inquisitive. (You still have to parent your children people!) There has been some staff changes and in my opinion, for the better. It's hard to decide what We enjoy more. We are usually encouraged to try something different every time and could not be happier. Play around with the ice cream... Get experimental. I wanted to clarify one thing. We were consumers of the owners food when he owned John's Chuckwagon outside of Hortonville, NY not to be confused with Johnnie's Kitchen in the Monticello area. ( No association, just a distorted carbon copy of a distorted carbon copy) So not cool. Always thought John's Chuckwagon needed a larger area and more expansive menu and it happened. Lots of pluses to this place. The food in general is excellent. The down side is the high prices. I realize its seasonal but $8.10 for a small veggie panini ? (albeit very tasty) The high prices take some of the fun out of it. and keep this ice cream lover from making it a regular stop. The Callicoon Creamery is AMAZINGGG!! The food is delightful and dont even get me started on the staff. The workers are polite and EXCELLENT with kids. The people are friendly and respectful. I could eat there everyday trying new and delicious things on the menu, with their everyday specials. After an awesome dinner me and the fam like to quickly grab some ice cream to go. You know that melted/refrozen/remelted kind-of foamy grossness that you get toward the bottom of an ice cream carton as it pretty much runs out and you leave it in the freezer for too long? Well I got served this. A half serving actually. The (half-wit) girl behind the counter apparently didn't have the audacity to simply inform me the flavor had run out, or notice that what she was serving me was an atrocity. Instead she just went ahead and scraped up that slop into a cup. My wife got a cup (same size serving ordered) almost three times as big as mine, with SOLID ice cream in it. Mine looked like a kid ate half of it an hour ago and it had been sitting there since. When I complained she simply admitted that that's all that was left at the bottom. I got to pick something else, but the fact I was even served this infuriated me. When you're (over)charging $15 for two small dishes of ice cream, you should probably go above and beyond on the service side of things, don't you think? As another reviewer stated, next time I'm just going to go to the grocery and get 4 or 5 full cartons for the same price. read more
