First time reviewer, long time reader. I've been to hundred of bars, restaurants, and pizza places - some terrible and some outstanding that were worthy of a great review. I say all of that to say that I'm not the type to leave a review one way or another but after visiting the Kaatskeller I felt compelled. We sat by the fireplace since there weren't any open tables and ordered a pizza, cider chicken, a beer, and a cocktail. The drinks, though great, took 20-30min. The food, after the manager asked how long we were waiting, finally came out about 45-50min after ordering. The pizza... if you've been to Costco, just get their personal pies. Costco's are both much better and about a tenth of the price. It was $17 for the barebones plain, 12in (tiny), and underdone to the point that the cheese was visible in its non-melted form. The chicken... oh lord the chicken... for the love of God, save your money. For $16 you get 3 drumsticks (wings) that are delicious - but nowhere near worth the price. Seriously, if any percentage of you want to order this dish, please save yourself the money (and future time writing a similar review). Do yourself a favor and eat literally anywhere else. read more

The best little spot in town for some delicious wood fire pizzas. Ordering is easy, it's all done online, then you visit the shop to pick up. Pizzas are always steamy and perfectly baked. This is a holiday tradition for my family and I every Christmas season when we are in town. My group of 5 and I arrived on a Saturday evening around 5:30PM, and the restaurant was already fully booked, so we ended up waiting another 45 minutes to be seated. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Since it was cold out, the outdoor space wasn't in use, but I could imagine during the summer, it'd be a great spot![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The pizza smelled great so our appetites were definitely ramping up! We ordered some drinks, the arugula salad, the Manor, the Wild One, and one more I don't remember the name of. We were expecting to have some leftovers, but we ended up finishing all 3 pies. They're fairly small, so if you're hungry, I'd order some more! The pizzas overall weren't bad, but the prosciutto was cooked with the pizza. I was imagining it would be charcuterie style but that's just personal preference. The meats were super salty, and the pepperoni was a bit tough. Service was lovely! The margherita and pepperoni pizzas were OK. The kale caesar salad was different and very much not a caesar salad, but was still yummy (it had a curried chickpea flavor). The soup was steep at $10 for a small portion and was quite bland. Overall the meal was solid and definitely the best we had while visiting the Catskills! We tried to order for takeout - not answer. Since their reputation was so good, we drove there to order the pizza. We're told the wait is 30-40 minutes so we decided to just wait and sit near the fireplace. I need to add that, after waiting like 25 min for the wine, we inquired and finally got it. Now after like 30/35 min I decided to check about the pizza - had to find out they the two pizzas I had seen under the heat lamp since 10+ minutes were ours. So the lady said she'd just have to do the salad (glad that at least the salad didn't get cold ) When asking/complsining I was told that it's not cold... great that they took my concern serious Anyhow, besides that fact that the pizza was then really less than lukewarm, also it was not great. The "Hawaiian" style had uncooked (do REALLY spicy jalapenos on it, the "Greek" style was totally salty. We had tried this place in the past and loved the pizza. This time we stopped by for takeout on a Friday night. I understand a place being busy on a Friday night. After no one picked up the calls a few times, we drove there to order. While the Carry out staff was friendly, not much went great after. After being told we had to wait 35 minutes we ordered a drink while we waited. After 15 minutes I reminded the staff and finally got our drinks. After 35 minutes we went to check on our pizzas and turns out they were already sitting in the warmer for a while. The food was cold and the pizza was not nearly as good as we remembered - lots of dough, not much flavor. The salad was good but also small. For about $25 a pizza I would expect much higher quality. The Kaatskeller is one of the most pleasant places to eat in Livingston Manor, if not the surrounding towns. Dining is mostly outside in their garden, although they have a few small tables inside. Their outdoor seating is gorgeous. It's outfitted with dozens of picnic tables, nicely landscaped with strong lights, and a fire pit with chairs. It's very cute and dog friendly. Definitely recommended when the weather is nice! The service here was wonderful. Everyone was so accommodating of our dog, Jeffrey. All the staff were very friendly and welcoming. We ordered the spicy honey pizza, arugula salad, and a cider + beer. My cider was delicious, tart and not too sweet. We enjoyed the arugula salad which tasted fresh. The pizza was just ok. Maybe their oven was a bit too hot, because our crust was very burned while the cheese didn't seem to be fully melted. A super cute spot we'll be sure to visit next time we're in LM. read more

Service style: Order your food from the register, get an order number, look for a table, food will be delivered. The place is in the middle of the town. They add oregano to the sauce and as someone who is Italian, I find this cheapens sauce and makes it taste like lunchables/elios pizza. I'm happy to pay the price for quality food, but this was overpriced and nasty. The hostess also wouldn't let us place a reservation even though the place was totally empty. Pretentious vibes. My wife and I have been visiting Livingston Manor from NYC for 10 years, and eating at The Kaatskeller has always been hit or miss. Unfortunately, this time was such a miss that I feel compelled to write a review. I called ahead to order a simple NY-style cheese pizza and was told it would be ready in 40 minutes. I arrived on time, only to be told I'd have to wait another 20 minutes. When I finally got home and opened the box, the pizza was badly burned. I regret not checking it before leaving the restaurant. Date of Visit: June 11, 2023 We decided to stop in Livingston Manor on drive from NYC to upstate NY. The town is super cute and worth the stop. As for the Kaatskeller, I would probably give them another try, despite some other short comings of our experience. Vibe: What's not to love about eating outdoors on a beautiful day! The outdoor space is super cool and has a great vibe. If I lived there, I would probably be hanging out there alot. Service: Hard to really judge service as you order and pay inside and then everything is brought to you. The staff was nice, but young and showed in their inexperience. Food: The food was the most disappointing part of the experience. We ordered two pizzas: Margherita / The High Life - local mozzarella, authentic DOP San Marzano tomato, Agrarian Feast micro basil, and EVOO and then Marinara Pizza / Customizer - DOP San Marzano tomatoes, oregano, garlic, EVOO and added mushrooms. Overall they use high quality ingredients and the pizzas had good flavors. The big issue, was the execution - the oven was too hot, causing the exterior of the pizza to be burnt and the interior of the pie to be raw. I also felt that the Margherita pizza was a little light on the micro basil. I think The Kaatskeller has alot of potential and maybe we just hit it on a bad day. The reviews were so good that we thought we needed to stop here during our Catskills weekend. It was fine but not necessarily the best place or pizza in this area. The dough was chewy, sauce was flavorless and overall felt like something you could get at a school cafeteria. It did have a 4.7 rating on google... must've been the old folks rating ... but we were hungry so it did the trick and [[HIGHLIGHT]]the decor was beautiful inside and outside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Servers were basically all young - must be high school summer jobs - they were kind but did seem to make lots of mistakes. I saw they charged two tables next to us for the wrong tab and had to correct it and then they ended up doing the same to us. This was really excellent. We got the meatballs, the Wild One pizza, the flatbread with butter, and the trout with ramp pesto. It was all great, but the meatballs were a particular standout -- they shocked us with how great they were. The bread and butter and pizza would definitely be re-orders as well (although maybe I could be convinced to try a different pie if another one looked really good), and while the fish was excellent, I'd probably want to try something different next time. This place was great! I was in town and looking for dinner in the area. I found this place! It looked quaint and the food looked delicious. I'm so glad I stopped by! I had the meatballs, wings and Italian Pizza. I'm so glad that I tried each of these. All of the food I had was amazingly fresh and flavorful. I would definitely come back and order each of these again. There was a nice outdoor space, as well. However I stopped here in the middle of winter during an ice storm. It would be a great place to sit outside during the warmer months. My server was friendly and attentive as well. I was here on a Saturday evening for dinner (6:15 PM) and even though the restaurant was crowded, I made a reservation and all of my food came out very quickly. Only thing that wasn't great was the trout, which we thought would be cooked directly on coals , but it was steamed in tin foil and not very flavorful. We came in without a reservation and opted to sit inside as it was pretty busy outside at the picnic tables. The inside was quite dark and we used flashlights to clearly see the menus as the candles weren't sufficient. The server brought water and took our order. My husband and son ordered the bread and butter which came out quickly along with other drinks. I ordered the Caesar salad with duck-bacon meatballs. That salad came out rather quickly too - and was quite tasty -- though the portion was a tad small. Luckily, my husband ordered the gluten free Italian pizza. My son ordered a Margherita pizza. Then, we waited. And waited. There was some issue in the kitchen and we later heard a medical emergency. About 40 minutes later, the pizzas came. What started as a stressful night was quickly improved by Scott and his fabulous team. Our car broke down just outside of town on a holiday weekend so we arrived (at the recommendation of a local couple) with many bags in hand. With the car figured out and our ride on the way, we were ready to eat and drink! We enjoyed two pizzas, an egg pesto and a spicy pepperoni. They came quickly and we loved every bite. My partner really liked his pistachio-bourbon cocktail and I sipped a great local cider. The restaurant itself is an adorable cabin - timeless and cozy. As candles were flickering around us and 70's music playing in the background, we felt pretty lucky that things worked out the way they did. After dinner, Scott took his hospitality even further - going out of his way to provide us warmth and good spirits. He personally drove us down the road to a spot that was open later (our ride was arriving well past the Kaatskeller's close). Overall, though our circumstances to explore Livingston Manor were not ideal, we will absolutely be coming back and the Kaatskeller will be the highlight when we do. read more

Great little spot on Main Street in Livingston Manor in the Catskills. The service was excellent and the ambiance right out of a 70s bar. Just lovely!!! The meatballs are TO DIE FOR! Tried the Kaatskeller for the first time this afternoon. We sat outside, which was really delightful on a beautiful fall day. We ordered the wild apples and arugula salad, the trout rillettes, the Wild One pizza and the Saltwater pizza. We also ordered some cocktails. The food was absolutely amazing and while we initially didn't receive our drinks due to a mixup with the bar printer, the staff was super apologetic and went above and beyond to make it right. Update: We're in Livingston Manor this year again and couldn't wait to return here. It was perfect this time so I'm upgrading my review to a 5 star. They open during the day on weekends Now! Woo hoo. Can't wait to go back on Sunday before we leave. The Cedar cooked trout is to die for. Service has improved also. We love it here. Original: The cocktails are amazing, very creative and unusual. The menu isn't huge, especially for vegetarians, but if you do eat meat then there were some good options. The wild one comes with this amazing chili honey. I would give 5 stars but the service isn't great. It's like if they have more than 3 tables at one time they completely lose their minds and can't cope.
