The staff is knowledgeable and super friendly without hovering, they have not one but TWO gorgeous cats, they host a monthly book club and other fun events, there's a loyalty program, and they do a lot for the community. Indie bookstores are thin on the ground in this part of the state and I was thrilled to find Keaton & Lloyd just a short drive from Utica. Soothing jazz was playing, the antique rugs made everything feel welcoming. There are several rooms full of used books in various categories. Everything was labeled and easy to navigate. They also have tables of used records and shelves of movies. This is the kind of analog, community-based place that so needs to exist in today's world. I hope it's always here in Syracuse.

As we wandered up the main strip we were mostly looking at places we'd want to come back to for some deeper dives and this bookstore was one of them. After going to the museum then next day we stopped back in and I left with a couple of vintage cards and two great books. The guy let me haggle on the cards and gave us a discount on the books. If I ever get back up to Cooperstown I hope this place is still around. Great selection, pretty well organized, good prices and the guys working both times we stopped in were great.
