What is going on at Olsen's? Are they under new ownership/management? My 67 year old wife stopped in to pick up bags of wild bird food, peanuts, shavings, and other supplies for our autumn "prep for winter" buy. She said not only was the inventory very low, with many items normally fully stocked unavailable....but they had absolutely no one available and had no problem expecting my life to load all this in our truck herself. The only people working was the young girl cashier and a guy in the back who couldn't be bothered. Gotta love how businesses treat customers nowadays. read more

When we are in need of livestock supplies this is where we go. I have looked at hay from other feed stores in the area and would in my opinion is it not the same quality as Olsen's hay. They are always friendly and there to help you out. They will carry you bags of various grains/feed to your vehicle. read more

Like Liz said, if I could give zero stars I would and HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! This store is a disgrace to independent feed stores everywhere. It's so unfortunate they have no real competition for high-end dog food and I even say that hesitantly since they have so little to choose from beyond the typical chain retailers. Today I had to splurge extravagantly for Fromm since they apparently phased out Acana (the only other top shelf food there). Every time I've been in there the desk clerks were either ill trained or lazy/disinterested. I am officially outraged after the most ridiculous experience I had today. Weeks ago I asked if they could special order a frozen food called My Perfect Pet as my dog won't eat raw. I was told they could so I ordered one (more expensive) and when I picked it up was told I could order one each week since I'm in a small RV. The following week I came in and they never placed the order. I was very disappointed. They were hot & heavy to get me into their customer dbase as if this would solve the probkem. The next week I arrive on schedule and again, no special order. This time I was upset expecting the food and making another special trip for it. Kristy was responsible for ordering and she retorted, "it's not my fault if they didn't get the order!" Really? Things deteriorared from there with her lousy attitude. The fact that she's a manager explains a lot about this place. They lost an opportunity to sell me exhorbitantly priced food weekly! Just stupid. Fortunately for Flagstaff there's certain online pet food sites whose service, selection, prices & fast shipping blow this place out of the water. Otherwise you might as well go to the big box pet food retailers! Sad but true. Olsen's has the best customer service I have seen in a very long time! Maybe ever. While there I picked up a big bag of bird seed and it nearly got away from me. I got it in my basket but an employee had noticed and offer to get me a cart, put my items on the cart, returned the basket, wheeled the cart to the register, and then wheeled it to my car and loaded it in the back. The person at the cash register was just as gracious. Wow! They are making a very loyal customer out of me. read more

I buy all of my dog's food and pet supplies at Olsen's Grain. Their customer service cannot be beat. One of the guys always carries my gigantic bag of dog food to my car after I buy it. I feel like a valued customer when I walk through their doors. Every year they have a customer appreciation day, with great deals, bbq food for their customers, and a ton of vendors on site. It's a lot of fun. Thank you for doing it! There prices are comparable or cheaper than the big box pet stores in town. Additionally, they seem to have a better selection of dog foods. They are very knowledgeable about the products they carry and do not hesitate to look into other products and will order if needed. Olsen's Grain really is as good as it gets. Just want to get it out there that I am very disappointed with the local Olsen's Grain with their lax attitude about mask wearing of their staff, including the owner. I have shopped at Olsen's for years and am quite distraught that the management does not seem to care about other people's health during this pandemic. You have lost me as a customer, Olsen's. They have so much inside a little store! Sometimes it gets crowded but everyone is so helpful! One night I got there at 6:10. I needed dog food as I was out, and after realizing I got there too late, I started to walk back to my car. Someone came to the door, asked what I needed (one thing and knew exactly where it was) and let me in! I couldn't believe it! I have worked a a farm store before and when that clock says quitting time we hit the lights and count the tills. Not you guys!. Awesome, awesome! The only thing I wish would happen is a sale on my dog food. They have the same sales on the same products.and just wish they would mix it up, that's all. read more

Olsen's gives great service and even better advice! I have never gone in with out being asked if I needed help, and they always offer to carry out my purchases. As a previous owner of only large breed dogs, the owner gave me excellent advice on small breed dog food for my rescued dachshund puppies. He also gave me a coupon! He let me know when the brand of dog food I had been using for years had began to use more fillers in the recipe so was less healthy for my dogs, and gave me several recommendations for better and more affordable foods! They have a great selection of foods and toys, and accessories for dogs, cats, horses and etc! The store is great, but my experience there today left much to be desired and I think the management should know......I purchased almost $100 worth of stuff....bird seed and dog food......and noticed the cashier charged me a different price for the suet than was advertised visibly above the suet on the shelf. I tactfully noted it and the head cashier was abrupt and nasty.....and didn't even speak to me when I tried to make conversation to lighten the moment. jjShe begrudgingly altered the price as marked at the shelf area, but left me very uncomfortable with her behavior. I am sure it was just a bad day for her, but it left bad feelings. I hope it never happens again, because the store staff is usually top notch. read more

I buy all of our animal (dogs, cat, horses, donkey) supplies at Olsens. Yes, internet might be cheaper, but at Olsen's they know their products, are helpful and guarantee what they sell. They LISTEN to questions and provide reasonable answers, even if it means not making a sale. The employees and management are from the area and can offer advice on where to get things done. Very knowledgeable staff. I prefer that over saving a few cents. I buy hay in large quantities. If there's ever a problem, they take it back and replace it . The guys that deliver my hay are courteous, friendly, hardworking and honest. In the 3+ years I have been doing business with them, I have never had a bad experience. GD. read more

I've been shopping with Olsen's since I moved to Flagstaff in 2001. They are always kind to my dogs when I bring them with me, and always knowledgable about food and products. We also get our wild bird food and bird houses/feeders there. I love shopping locally and love these guys! read more

Went into Olsen's to try them out and get a bag of dog food. They didn't have the exact bag of young adult food I've been using but I went with the adult food since my dog is almost 2 years old. i happened to go in when they were doing a customer appreciation day and had the parking lot full of vendors and a barbeque as well. The staff was very helpful and helped me in every way. The only issue I had (and it's very minor) was the lady that cashed me out was being rushed by another employee to get the line moving because they were busy. Because of that, I didn't get offered a raffle ticket or bag of dog treats that they were giving to everyone that made a purchase. I do like supporting local businesses though and I will be back. read more

Came here today because my puppy keeps throwing up and we think it's because of the food we are feeding her. They had a sales rep. named Pat and she is amazing!! Very helpful and when wants what's best for your dog. She was very informative and gave me a coupon for buy 1 get one and some samples to have my dog try! Very happy I decided to come here today! Wish I could give no stars. Been shopping here since this place opened but they just drove me away today. Used to board 14 horses and bought all my hay and feed here for 10 years. Now have 7 dogs and have been buying $200 worth of dog food a month for at least 5 years. I estimate I have spent over $50,000 at this store since they opened. Today, I was told I could not use a $5.00 manufacturers coupon at the same time as a $5.00 Olsen's store coupon. Seriously. They let a customer like me walk away forever over $5.00 that would not even come out of their pocket. HORRIBLE WAY TO TREAT A LIFELONG CUSTOMER!!! Stupid assistant manager just stood there interrupting me and making excuses about how she has no control. Well, guess you shouldn't make someone a manager if you won't let them honor a $5 coupon to keep a customer happy and continuing to purchase from your store. At least don't make someone a manager who is too stupid to understand that NOT honoring a coupon that won't even cost her store $5 is not worth losing a customer forever. I have lived in Flagstaff for 23 years. Every time a local store goes out of business, all I hear is how it's so sad that no one shops local anymore. In my experience, it is more like local businesses here prefer to cut off their nose to spite their face. They would prefer to lose years of business from a customer over a couple of bucks paid by a manufacturer. This has happened to me more times than I can count. At least national chains are smart enough to honor their own store coupons along with manufacturers coupons. Generally, they have lower prices too. Screw local businesses and screw Olsen's Grain. If they don't want my business, then here I come Tractor Supply and Cal Ranch. Just angry I gave them so much money for so many years. Can't wait til the national chains put them out of business. For 20 years, I have enjoyed purchasing products from this company. The managers and staff are top notch, always ready with a smile, professional courtesy and advice, if needed. The men who deliver my hay bales stack them in a way that I can easily access. Because I am too small too wrestle the bales, this is important to me. I have been going here for over 10 years. I love this place. Everyone is super helpful. The complete opposite of Wal-Mart and Home Depot. Probably not the cheapest place in the world to buy supplies but I think it is well worth my time to stop here every 2 weeks and grab my cat food. read more
