Highland Housecalls is so wonderful. Their prices are affordable (even though I understand why other vets have to keep their prices high, this is probably your most affordable option in flagstaff!) . They have been treating my family's animals for a long time now, but today they cleaned my dogs teeth for the first time. My little dog, Tali, has trauma from the last time she was at the vet (no fault of the other vets, but she was super sick, and so now she gets very anxious anytime we walk into a clinic). Highland house calls was patient with her, and I really felt they treated her as one of their own. But what truly made Highland Housecalls stand out for me was their nonjudgmental attitude. Sometimes, when you go into a walk-in veterinarians office, you can leave feeling very guilty- asking yourself "Why didn't I get her teeth cleaned sooner?" Or "How could I have missed that mole?" and even "Do they think I'm a bad pet parent? Am I a bad pet parent?". But Highland Housecalls had me asking none of those questions. They understood that we were doing our best juggling life and taking care of our pets, and that is important to me. I think if more veterinarians were as kind and nonjudgmental as Highland Housecalls, more people would feel comfortable taking their animals to the vet more often. 10/10 for everything they do!!! read more

My relationship with Highland House call is twofold, I use them as my personal vet for my cats at home since they hate going to the vet, and I also frequently meet Dr. Kurmes on site for home euthanasias. I have yet to meet one of his clients is disappointed in his service he's always on time if not early kind courteous professional And is just awesome all around. People really appreciate when a veterinarian can come to their home when their pet has to be put to sleep it's comforting and calm and peaceful. Just two weeks ago my cat was ill and lethargic and I didn't know why he showed up to my place took care of my cat and she actually had an abscess on her leg that I didn't even see with two days of medication she was back to normal I'm so appreciative. read more

I cannot recommend this vet and this service enough, they are fantastic. True to their name, Highland House Calls is a mobile vet unit and rolls right up to your curb to do a house call. But more than the convenience of having a vet come to your house (a necessity with a carrier/car/vet phobic pet like mine), I got the best vet service I've ever received. I left a message for Highland on Sunday (they are closed on the weekends) explaining the problem with my cat. Their away message says they will start returning calls at 8am Monday morning. I was all ready to call back at 8am to follow up on my message, but they actually called me at 7:55am on Monday! It was such a relief that they took my call seriously and were beyond prompt in returning it. Whereas another vet office I called over the weekend did not have any availability to see my cat for a solid week, Highland was able to get me an appointment that day. My cat was having a lot of mouth pain and was very afraid and didn't want to be touched or moved. Dr Kurmes and his tech came into my house, were kind and gentle with my cat, listened to everything I had to say about her history and condition as well as my thoughts on her issue, and only moved her to the mobile unit when she was ready and it was necessary (in fact, they waited in my house a good ten minutes for the pain/calming shot to kick in, just to make sure she would have the least amount of stress and discomfort in the 20 feet from my door to their mobile unit). Both Dr Kurmes and the tech were professional, knowledgable, respectful, and kind to both my suffering pet and me, a very upset owner. Dr Kurmes diagnosed the problem right away, talked me through it, let me come into the mobile unit for the initial part, and worked to remove two cat teeth quickly and efficiently. My cat was back in my house and coming out of the drugs in very short order, and was the least stressed I'd ever seen her after a vet visit (with by far the most serious procedure she's ever received). Dr Kurmes then talked me through each thing he had given my cat, what to look out for, how to interact with her in the next few hours, and when and what to feed her. Again, it was the most top notch vet service I have ever received anywhere, with the least amount of stress for my cat. The house visit is slightly more than it would have been taking a pet into a vet, but I didn't think it was uncomfortably or unreasonably high. In fact, I felt that the final fee for all services/treatments was less expensive than it would have been in a vet office, so the higher visit fee was negligible. Take into account the amount of time saved and anxiety and discomfort saved with my pet, this was an amazing deal. read more

Highland House Calls is by far the best vet in town. I have been using them as my vet for over a decade and they have always been extremely compassionate and caring. I appreciate that they don't add extra costs with unnecessary treatment or anything that could put my pets through more stress. Dr. Kurmes has a fantastic, science-based practice and is more than willing to share tips and options for preventative care as well as treatment. They have, at times, even given me suggestions to try over the phone to possibly avoid a vet visit unless necessary. Not only do they make house calls to create a more convenient and comfortable experience, but if desired, you can save the trip cost and take your pet to their van at their home. My pets have never been afraid when in the van. It's apparent that Dr. Kurmes truly cares for animals and also wants to genuinely help owners help their pets. It's his own practice and business, and it's obvious he is sincerely doing it for the animals. He treats every pet like family.
