4/11/25 i drove almost 2 hours and I took my baby shihtzu, Milo in for an emergency because I was afraid he had Parvo, because he had all the symptoms. So we stopped by and they gave him a parvo test and I'm pretty sure it was the rapid test because results came in 10 minutes. After the Parvo test they told me it isn't always accurate.. you would think an almost $300 test would be accurate, then had the audacity to tell me to come back tomorrow to take another Parvo test because it could come back as positive. Very disappointing, The Parvo test itself was $280 and they charged us unnecessary fees such as an emergency fee for $100 and they never mentioned that on the phone. But we kept him there and they kept suggesting tests to do because they were unsure what was happening with him then our bill was $600 + just for my baby to pass away 6 hours later after taking him home. I came here seeking help for my baby, and all they gave me was nothing and took my money. They only go by test and not what they know, I'm 100% certain he had Parvo, and if you're thinking of coming here just buy the parvo test on Amazon and do at home remedies. I've lived in Flagstaff for 14 years and believe that Continental Animal Wellness Center is the best Veterinary clinic in town. They are truly exceptional in their thorough and professional diagnosis of ailments and illnesses and are eager to consider every option when diagnosing your pet's ailment. You can really sense their heartfelt compassion for your pet and their desire to make them well. With so many other clinics it's "all about the money." While pet care can certainly be expensive, money is certainly not what motivates the staff at CAWC. To the contrary, you can tell that they sincerely place your pet's well-being as their top priority. I've read some very negative reviews lately and have concluded that you just can't please some people, especially those people who have diarrhea of the mouth and leave very mean, personal attacks. I've used all three veterinarians at CAWC and have always been completely satisfied with the kind, attentive professional service I've received. They are top notch and should be your top choice for your pet's care. At Continental, we were not given options we were hoping for. Our experience there has opened our eyes to the business world of typical vet clinics. I believe their doctors care about animals and they're very professional about how they interact with them in front of you, but the owners still run Continental like a business especially during surgical procedures. We ourselves, as business owners, believe there are ways to accommodate customers and their fur babies for events like surgery. But at Continental, animals are treated as a number to push in and out daily. This is why I regret allowing Continental to "care" for my pet. Our experience: For the surgery, their policy as verbally stated: "You HAVE TO bring him in at 8am and come back after 4pm". No other options. Where is the comfort/care in that for your pooch? Please answer us this, Doctor - when is it time for YOUR fur baby to need a surgical procedure, do you admit her in the same way you expect your paying customers to? Heck no! You would schedule your pet to where it's no more than a 30 minute wait until she is seen and put under anesthesia. You might even want to accompany her up until that moment. When the procedure is complete, you don't throw her in a business kennel until 5pm rolls around. Where were our options for scheduling according to what we felt was best for our aging dog? Same for your pooch or kitty, Continental has your pet sitting anxiously in his/her kennel for who knows HOW MANY HOURS until it's convenient for the doctors to put him under anesthesia. Then they do the surgery, then no one notifies you how soon you can pick up your baby or come sit with him. Instead they put him back in some unknown kennel to wake up cold and alone, finding himself anxious and scared looking for you for comfort. That's inhumane and probably traumatic for most any living creature. It was traumatic for our goldie. His health declined drastically after that visit. Let's be honest, there exist ways to run a business where you truly are caring for animals as if it is YOUR OWN. read more

I could not recommend this vet practice highly enough. My daughter's horse got injured while she was at camp in Flagstaff. The staff treated her there and educated my daughter the entire time (she wants to be a vet). They have graciously followed up with us via text message and have answered questions we have had since returning home to Phoenix. When I first started seeing Dr. Jim Maciulla at CAWC, I had 6 dogs and 3 cats. I now have 2 dogs and 2 cats. Those I have lost have been to old age, but their lives extended due to the great knowledge of Dr. Maciulla. I have been through torn ACL's, hyperthyroidism, Cushings Disease and much more. Every animal and situation treated with great thought and respect. Some veterinarians I have seen in the past, seem to have the "take her for all she's got attitude". Not CAWC...I always feel it's the best solution and at the most reasonable price...not that I wouldn't spend an arm and a leg on my fur children. I left Continental Animal Wellness on December 22, 2022. This is the full story or you can skip to the bottom for the conclusion...but basically my dog was experiencing UTI symptoms for several weeks and although I am an established client with this vet clinic on Huntington, they refused my request to start with a urine sample/ to run a urinalysis for my dog. They insisted they needed to see my dog first (therefore charging me their fee for that as well) and to give her an ultrasound which would be no less than $300.00. I insisted: "But I am already established with you/we have an ongoing relationship, so why can't you offer me this option so I can just rule out a UTI same day?" Being met with resistance stating:  "It's not our policy to treat a dog before we see the dog...". I said: "But you just saw her last month for something routine..."  The dialogue went back and forth and eventually that was enough for me to know that something wasn't right with their service. The doctor continued to stand her ground. It became clear to me that this business is not about helping me be the best pet parent I know how to be. And that they don't want to help unless they can squeeze at least $300.00 out of you.  Therefore, know this, if you are the kind of owner that knows how to advocate for your pet while not getting railroaded by a business, you might be looked at funny by the staff at Continental or worse get thought of as something crazy. And we all know that's an unfair spot to be in. Furthermore, when I called my sister-in-law (a vet tech in another state) to make sure I'm not being out of line. She said you are getting sub-par service there; I would switch businesses immediately; and good job advocating for what you want for your dog! I called a different vet clinic in town right away and told them my situation and asked them a few questions about their policies. Short story - They said: "Yes we can get you the UA you want, we just need to establish care as a client first." And that is exactly what I did. But of course I lost time and my dog is suffering longer to get the care she needs. Next time I will read reviews and call and ask questions/interview the business before I establish care and decide to partner with them or not.  As for this new clinic, they ruled out the UTI same day as my visit and we are going up the ladder with the next step suggested. This business offers me options and allows me to advocate for my dog without hesitating. read more

I'm so grateful for Continental! I was in Flagstaff overnight with 3 more days on the road before reaching home. I'd noticed my dog, Finnegan, was bothered by something going on with his lower right lip and when I checked, it looked red and swollen. Not wanting to wait until we got home, I quickly researched some vets online. Skeptical and worried about getting an appointment so last-minute, I called one and of course, there were no openings. But they suggested I call Continental, and am I thankful (and lucky) they did. Michele at the front desk got us an appointment for 10 a.m. Samantha, the tech, took us into a room almost immediately and got down all the vital information. I was impressed she took Finn's temperature in his armpit (I'd never seen that), explaining that since he wasn't technically "sick," that was their preferred method. Love it. Sam had a lovely, gentle manner with Finn, and both she and Michele were delightfully calm, efficient, and friendly. Then in came Dr. Thompson. What a wonderful vet. In her gentle and caring manner, she knelt down with Finn on the floor instead of hoisting him up on the table. After a preliminary view, she suggested she trim the hair next to his lip to get a closer look. Moments later, she returned with Finn and said she couldn't see any particular cause, and she suspected just a slight skin infection. She prescribed prednisone and an antibiotic and sent us on our way. Finn's lip started to improve in a couple of days and it's now completely healed. I can't thank the Continental team enough, with special thanks to Michele, Sam, and Dr. Thompson. You eased my mind (and probably Finn's, too) and we were both able to enjoy the rest of the trip. As another reviewer put it, I'll forever be grateful to Dr. Thompson and the Continental team. One last thought ... as I was checking out, I noticed a candle sitting on the front counter with a note saying that when it is lit, it means someone is saying good-bye to their pet. That really got me. Shows how much the Continental team cares about pets and their humans. I wish I lived in Flagstaff so Finn could count on Continental for all of his needs. read more

Purchased the new puppy package from this provider, which covered all routine services for a new puppy. Each time I took my dog for services I was always asked to settle up for a service I already purchased. Today, I brought my puppy to be neutered. Upon waiting to pick him up I waited on hold the first time for almost 30 minutes with no assistance. The second time on hold over twenty minutes. Since you are unable to go inside I have now waited for over 1 hour to simply pick up my pet from surgery. Front office staff refused to waive the 12.00 add on service I requested even after such poor customer service. If you are looking for competent, caring professionals this is not your place. read more

We took her to this facility to get checked out and they were wonderful from the time we stepped in the door until the time we left. The staff was on time, very friendly and attentive. They were super loving towards our little girl and Dr. Dobbins was excellent! She is very professional but down to earth and spent an adequate amount of time with us to make sure our sweet girl was a priority even though they had an emergency patient on the way. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAT HERE! I am super unhappy with my experience with this clinic. Tried to get my ragdoll kitty groomed down the street from this clinic and he was not having it. Groomer suggested I get him sedated to shave him down and she recommended Continental. I was elated when they said they could fit him in the next morning, and I asked that they look at his teeth as well. The front desk did tell me it wasn't going to be a professional lion cut, and I agreed that as long as they could just shave him down, I'd be happy. Well, I'd like to take those words back. Once I got him home, it was BEYOND terrible!!! I was so mad at this clinic just looking at my cat!! Who did they allow to shave him down? A 5 year old? He looks like he has mange! It was ridiculous and once you see the pics...I'm sure you'll agree. Parts of him was shaved, other parts not so much. Completely uneven all the way around. He even had what looked like a 'hole' on the top of his neck. From what? The shaver? They didn't tell me about it, so I didn't see it until he came out of the tote at home. It was pink and bloody. We put some Neosporin in it for a few days. The pics are from a week later, so, it's a bit healed up...but why wouldn't they tell me they nicked him? When I called them to tell them it was a terrible job and I wasn't happy at all, Alyssa kept saying they did their best. NO, THEY DID NOT. Whoever they let shave him, didn't know what they were doing!!! Their excuse was that they don't have a professional groomer and the shaver they used wasn't working well. WHAT? And then charge $271 for a botched job? Had I not had the experience of their 'shaver', I would have brought him back to get his back teeth removed end of the summer. But I'll find another vet, thank you, because I would never take my cat back there. If you can't provide a service well, DON'T PROVIDE IT AT ALL. CAWC was our vet place for over 14 years, we even recommended them to many others, but recently it has gotten so bad we had to move our dogs to another vet. One dog had his teeth cleaned, he was bathed the day before, and we go him back with feces smeared all over his little behind. The tech handed him off to me with the leash and I had to pick him up to put him in our SUV, yep feces all over my right arm. She said that sometimes happens after being put to sleep but offered no explanation as to why she didn't look to see it was there and then clean him. She also offered me no apology and zero assistance with the mess all over me (I know who it was but I'll spare her name here). A few weeks later our other dog had an interdigital cyst that wouldn't go away so I made arrangements with Dr. Dobbin to have the cyst removed when I took him in to get his teeth cleaned (her suggestion) - less times a dog is put under the better, she told me - and I verified this when I dropped him off, I had quotes. Please note he had been treated with antibiotics for this cyst for more than 8 weeks prior. I got a call from Dr. McKenna Thompson after his procedures but she did not mention the cyst was still there, our main concern! I had to wait to speak with her when I went to pick him up and then she told me there was nothing to remove. Needless to say this cyst kept getting worse and I had to then take him to another vet to get it removed - starting over and paying over $660 for the surgery alone. It was so large by that time they had to cut into the bottom of the poor boys paw to get the whole thing. I spent over a $1,000 at CAWC, his teeth could have waited another year because they are impeccably clean, to get horrible service and then bate and switched in the end. Also, over the past year both our pups were coming out of there shaking horribly (we were not able to go inside during COVID) and we had to speak with the Vets over the phone. Only Dr. Bruchman would come out to the cars occasionally to talk with us if we were lucky enough to get her on the day we could get an appointment. It is very, very hard to see the same veterinarian here every time. Our Jasper finally had his surgery at Canyon Pet and when we took him there our Dr. noticed symptoms of Cushing's disease and he tested positive. Thank God! With the correct treatment we can have our dog with us for more years than if it had gone untreated ... and he will be comfortable. Jasper is approximately 11 years old. Oh, and he is never shaking when returned to us. read more

I live in Sedona and the drive to Flagstaff to have Dr Dobbin see my two dogs is worth it. After seeing several Vets in the Sedona area and being unhappy with their poor customer service, lack of interest in finding the cause of my dog's health issue, and overall lack of professionalism I am happy to have found Dr Dobbin and CAWC. The entire staff - from the moment you walk in, until you check out - was welcoming. The Vet Tech was very knowledgeable and friendly. And the Vet that saw my two dogs - Dr Dobbin - answered every single one of my questions, did not rush me out of the room, and did not try to sell me services that were not necessary. Additionally, she is clearly an animal lover, greeting each dog before performing their check-up, and doing part of the exam, kneeling on the floor at their height, to make them feel comfortable. My dog sustained a traumatic eye injury that literally happened overnight. When I awoke in the morning and found my dog in pain and with obvious concerning eye changes, I immediately tried to get her in with her vet at our clinic. When I realized she would have to wait hours to get in, I began to make calls all over town. Continental was the only place that understood the severity of the issue based off the symptoms I shared over the phone. Without hesitation they asked me to bring her in right away. Dr. Thompson saw her and determined this was indeed an emergency and walked me though every aspect of what she was doing and why. She did not sugarcoat the severity of the situation and that the loss of the eye was a strong possibility, but also did it with such kindness. I was given medication to help over the weekend with a follow-up a few days later to see if the conservative treatment worked or if we needed a more aggressive approach. Over the weekend, things did get worse and my dog ended up needing emergency intervention and that included the removal of the eye (enucleation). Everything Dr. Thompson stated was supported by the emergency vet and by extensive evidenced-based research I did. When she followed up a couple of days later and heard of what transpired she not only understood why the eye had to go, but also supported me in the decision, which was incredibly comforting to hear from a professional during such a confusing and overwhelming time. Requested dogs toes be trimmed with dremel. He has a condition if they are cut they often split. They don't dremel so just went ahead and cut without asking. Dr Dobbin just caused another toe infection. She never even thought to ask why I wanted dremel. In fact she seemed proud that she went against a specific request. read more

I recently got my 4 month old Aussie spayed. The staff was very professional and friendly. Unfortunately the day after I brought my dog home, she ripped open her suture. Wow, I'm really sorry to the previous reviewer, Kim. I can't speak for their home visits, but their walk-in service is great. I stopped in earlier today for the first time to get a rabies vaccination for my dog. The staff were professional, friendly, and efficient! The Doctor was great. They were upfront about their prices, which says a lot in my book! Prices were about average for a vet, not excessive, but not the cheapest. We've used this clinic five times over this summer of 2019, and I can't say enough about how great they are. The girls at the front desk are gracious, thoughtful, and accommodating. They recently helped us through a euthanasia of our oldest, sweet girl, in a beautifully darkened room with soft pillows and time to say our goodbyes. We were given all the time we needed to say our goodbyes, and the actual procedure was handled professionally and with the utmost empathy for our grief. My neighbor kept telling me good things about Continental Animal Wellness. She is a surgical nurse and when I finally decided to switch vets I was so impressed with the excellent layout, the cleanliness, the care that the front office showed to me. It was a very difficult time. My therapy animal was very ill and it seemed to have come about so quickly. The doctor was kind and skillful in communicating, sharing his knowledge and experience in treating my pet's illness. We sat on the floor with my animal and he took time to help me understand the possible outcomes and make some tough decisions. Since then both doctors have taken over caring for my animals and we (me and my dogs) have become good friends with the docs and staff. My dogs and I look forward to our visits there. read more

My dog had an allergic reaction and developed terrible hives all over her face that got increasingly swollen. We were very scared that she could develop anaphylaxis and have compromised breathing as her face was severely swollen. We are new to town and found continental vet online and decided to seek emergency care. We called about the situation and they told us to come in to get her a steroid injection and monitoring. We brought her to the vet and completed intake where we said no blood work, IV, or other diagnostic/treatment options besides the steroid injection until we talked to the vet and they had completed their assessment. The vet called and after discussion we decided blood work was not necessary and told the vet we just wanted the shot. They told us she would require 1 hour of monitoring after and that they would call us after they had been able to observe her long enough. Ten minutes after this discussion with the vet the office manager, Brianna Clark, called us saying that they did blood work and we had to pay for it even though we had declined to 2 people. We stated we would not be paying for services we clearly declined and that they mistakenly did without consent. The office manager was extremely rude and stated that if we would not pay for their mess up bloodwork we needed to come get our dog immediately. We had paid for the shot and emergency care visit that required monitoring after and they refused to monitor our dog. When picking up our dog as demanded they wanted us to sign an AMA form saying that we were choosing to not have her observed for the required time, to which we clearly refused as we were being forced to take her home. This is medical malpractice. I have never been so ashamed in a medical service clinic in my life. We are scared owners that were looking for emergency help and were met with unprofessional, rude personnel and ultimately malpractice in the care of our dog. Our dogs face is still swollen. I urge anyone considering quality care for their animal to seek other options, as Continental Vet clearly does not care about your pet..just their profit. read more

Do. Not. Go. Here. Stay far away! If you need a vet go to Aspen. This vet is completely incapable of providing adequate care. My dog had a gland issue that turned out to be a bad infection. I came in telling her about him having discharge and gland leakage. This vet told me he had no gland issues and gave me medication for a gastrointestinal parasite and would not even acknowledge the issue I came in for. She told me he also might have a tumor and cancer and basically got me planning for the worst. She wants money and nothing more. Of corse after a week nothing got better since she treated him for made up causes. A week later we go to Aspen Clinic they were the most understanding and compassionate people I've ever met. Turns out my dog did have an infected gland, his glands are actually positioned farther apart then other dogs thus not allowing his glands to be expressed naturally as easily. I was told the other vet about our previous experience and showed medical records and was told by this new vet that there is no reason continental should have prescribed a medication that did not even treat an infection but instead something that was not even there. Aspen gave me a strong set of antibiotics and did a gland express, sanitary cut and updated all vaccines. My dog is the healthiest and happiest I've seen him in a while and no more infection. Oh and the cancer scare? Fake. I was worried I was going to lose my dog and now I'm comforted that I got him proper care. If I had kept going to this vet I think my dog might not have made it do it lies and fake care for a clear sense of money. You should all be ashamed. The stress and discomfort you caused me and my dog was extremely unprofessional. Oh and my dog had a reaction to the medication he wasn't even supposed to be given, I called with my concerns and was told it's not possible. Yet the manufacture website for that medication says that's a sign of an allergic reaction. I'm not sure how this vet is even allowed to operate with such clear examples of malpractice. Since relocating to Phoenix, we are not regular customers here anymore. However, on a recent vacation up north, our older dog became ill with allergies. They put us on a cancellation list and we were able to get in that day. From the moment I called to set the appointment to the time I was leaving, everything was perfect about this place. I highly recommend Continental Animal Wellness Center. In fact, I wish they would relocate to Phoenix. Every staff member truly LOVED their job. It was apparent. My dog was bleeding every where and they did not make a fuss. They went the extra mile to make sure we were ok. On top of it all, they gave us towels and made an adorable wrap for her ear. They cut out hearts and put them on her bandage. They went above and beyond necessary. Thank you. read more
