Disappointed in the fact that Rees told me I had 2 cavities on either side of my crown. When I went to another Dentist and ex-rays were taken, no cavities to be found. What's that all about? Someone recommended I try this dentist. Today was my third visit, and am I glad I found this dentist. The entire staff works exceptional together. I really liked how before any procedure they really tell you what to expect. They even make you feel comfortable by asking if you'd like a blanket. I was referred to Dr. Olson by a good friend and colleague who told me "Dr. Olson is the best". He is absolutely correct in his assessment. I called Dr. Olson's office on a Friday several months ago after a poorly done filling by another dentist, and I was having a lot of pain right before leaving for a work trip. They were able to see me the next morning, Saturday, when he came in on his day off. He thoroughly examined my tooth, made his diagnosis and corrected the bite which he said will hopefully calm the inflammation down before it became irreversible. Luckily, it worked and saved me from a root canal. Fast forward a few months later (yesterday), on Friday evening, an old crown (which had been done by another dentist years ago) popped off while flossing. I had been home for over a month, and this has to happen just before leaving for an international trip! On a Friday night, no less! I called Dr Olson's office hoping to be able to leave a Voicemail, but it had a number for dental emergencies, which I texted. Dr. Olson got back to me immediately and met me at his office THAT evening to rescue the crown and re-attatch it. Impressively, he was not rushing the work. He wanted to make sure that the bite was perfect before letting me leave, making fine adjustments until it was just right. It's very difficult to find medical professionals who take this much pride in their work and practice. In my line of work, I have become very adept at assessing character and personality very quickly. It is very apparent that Dr. Olson takes immense pride in his craft and his practice. He loves what he does, and cares for his patients. Based on my experience with him, I am transferring the Dental care of my entire family to his practice. Dr. Olson has been our family dentist for many years. He and his highly trained team have treated every single family member with individualized attention and care, including excellent local outside referrals when needed. I just returned for my first post-pandemic cleaning and found out that he has gone up hospital-level care to prevent COVID infection, installing a multi-level ventilation and antibacterial system that is second to none. I'm a public health professor and I'm incredibly impressed, but not surprised - Dr. Olson should be teaching classes himself to other health practitioners on how to create a safe environment for his staff and patients. This 5-Star review is long overdue for Dr. Rees Olson -- After moving to San Diego a few years back, I almost forgot what real dentistry felt like :-) My wife had a ton of failed fillings and crowns done by another dentist from just 7 years back before we got married...I told her about a couple fillings Dr Rees did for me about 10 years ago with no problems whatsoever....After numerous dental visits with grandma and our girls, Dr Rees has fully restored my wife's teeth -- He even met with my wife once on his day off for a dental emergency! Regarding Cleaning -- They set the bar REALLY high. Found Dr. Olson on Yelp and I'm SO glad I did! The first time I went was for a much needed, overdue teeth cleaning. I was there for a long time because the dental hygienist who cleaned my teeth actually took the time to clean them thoroughly. She even recommended an electric toothbrush to me, which has been a game changer. The second time I went was to get 2 cavity fillings replaced because the ones my last dentist put in 8 years ago had gone bad. Dr. Olson used a dental dam - it prevents saliva from getting in while the filling is placed and drying. It makes your filling last longer! My last dentist did not do this. Dr. Olson also gave me a mirror and let me watch! He did my fillings on a Friday and said if anything feels uneven with my bite once the numbing medication wears off, to call the office and he would gladly come in to fix them on the weekend as the sooner he fixes them, the better the outcome. Of course nothing ended up being wrong, but I appreciated the dedication! I also needed a front tooth filling fixed that had eroded and now it looks perfect. He matched the color and texture exactly. Dr. Rees Olson is the most gentle, caring, and proficient Dentist. He is one of the few. It seems to result from excellent schooling (UCLA), his father training him and in fact being one of his Professors at UCLA School of Dentistry, and a mindset of empathy. On top of it all, Dr. Rees Olson does not cut corners, only the best materials (fillings/crowns) are used. If there were 10 stars, I would gladly rate him with "10". At the turn of the century my childhood dentist, Dr. Scallon decided to retire. He was truly amazing and took great care of his patients. For a while I struggled to find the 'old fashioned', yet modern standard of care that made a real positive contribution when something as personal as your 'teeth' are concerned. Dr. Rees Olson in Placentia is a 2nd generation dentist who learned the caring values that were credited to his father. Living in what at one time were small towns, Placentia, Yorba Linda and Brea and all other OC cities used to be 'almost country' in social values and traditions. We knew our neighbors and took care of one another. Dr. Rees and team do just that. Dr. Rees last year referred me and my family to Dr. Curtis in Brea when at age 59 it was determined I would need braces. Since then our 15 year old has also received dental braces from Dr. Curtis and his team. I came across this yelp and figured I should do a 'late' review like many others. We Love Dr. Rees and his staff and have been going for many years. We trust his recommendations and work 100%. Our care is optimal and we appreciate the superior quality of his work. He also takes the time to answer questions and educate his patients at their level of understanding, not his. The entire staff are fabulous and efficient. With the office remodel almost done there is a wonderful fresh feel and I liked the light massage chair during my root canal yesterday. Almost fell asleep. :} I have never had to wait longer than a paragraph in a book, in a pretty much empty waiting area. Never paperwork or billing issues. Concerning children, Dr. Reese is very capable with children. A few years ago my 4 or 5 year old grand-daughter was having increasing mouth pain. After a Dr. and Dentist visit without results, I told my daughter to call her old dentist, Dr Reese. A diagnosis then a quick baby root canal was performed (along with some education) and the pain went away. Everybody was happy and relieved the problem was caught when it was. I grew up going to dentist regularly but rarely seeing the same one more than a few times due to being military. I know dentists. We tried two others here in the YL area when we first moved here. The first one I never went back to. The second one the family went to for several years. I got tired of always having to wait an hour or more in a crowded wait room for the kids to get in for cleanings and check ups. We had overcharges and guilt sales, bad advice, 'new' tests with added fees, and other things insurance didn't cover that made me dread going. We decided to up our insurance coverage to pay more money just to go to who we choose to go to and haven't looked back. Today Dr. Rees Olson performed precision root canal surgery. Earlier this month I was asked to contact him by my wife following a botched 'root canal surgery' by a local endodontist/dentist group who will go unnamed. Dr. Rees took my initial call and consulted with me following that painful previous experience, without any advance notice. I was in his chair within 20 minutes after the call. He invested time to listen and understand. He planned out a cure/solution to the incredible pain I was experiencing. He provided immediate relief from the pain. He contacted me after the initial visit and before the surgery to see how I was doing. He and his office are exceptional at what they do. Special thanks also to his dental assistant Claudia for her work during the 3 hour procedure. Everyone there is so nice. I've had good dentists, and unfortunately a few bad (or not so good) along the way. My boyfriend woke up the day after Christmas with unbearable tooth pain. After calling my own dentist and finding out that they were unavailable, they referred me to Dr. Olson. I called Dr. Olson and he answered the phone himself! He said he was available all day for emergency dental procedures. I explained a little bit of what was going on with my boyfriend's tooth, and Dr. Olson said to come down right away so he could help. Brenda and Dr. Olson greeted us right away when we entered the office. After a quick consult, Dr. Olson gave us a few options on how to handle the tooth problem. He is clearly very knowledgeable about his craft! My boyfriend decided on an immediate extraction. Dr. Olson successfully performed the extraction with minimal pain. The prices were very fair, considering my boyfriend did not have insurance. I appreciate how Dr. Olson very clearly outlined the charges for us before the extraction took place. All in all, the entire experience was very positive, considering what we were there for. Thank you, Dr. Olson, for taking my boyfriend in on the day after Christmas on such short notice. You saved the day, truly! If I didn't already have another dentist, or if I ever have a dental emergency, I would not hesitate to come to Dr. Olson again. Literally by far the best dentist I've ever been to. Doctor Olsen is the most honest person. I've been to A LOT of dentist. I had work done 10 years ago by Doctor Olsen and it's still in the same condition. Never had a problem with it. I wish I kept going to him. A friend told me to go to him and I remembered that he's the same dentist from 10 years ago. He sat and talked to me for a half hour today and even walked me out. The first time I came in he sat and talked with me for a hour! Have you ever been to a dentist that's done that? He is so kind. You will leave feeling so much better, I promise! All of the staff is extremely friendly. I love them all. I have already told people to go here. I have family and friends who are going to him now. I have had so many bad experiences with dentist.. I am always very aware of energy and such around me, and the moment I walked in, in spite of apprehension over future work I knew in my gut I needed done, and after the sifting of insurance was complete, I knew instantly I was in the right hands. I have been with them for almost a year or more now, not super long, no..., but in spite of the difficulty of work done, always leave feeling loved, like I go home and feel fulfilled somehow that I can't put words to it. I was referred to Olson Family Dentistry by word of mouth (no pun intended...), from a former manager at work, and I feel like I got the way better end of the deal. My former dentist was not as proactive about work that I knew somehow should be done, but not sure exactly what (I'm not a dentist, right? I just felt my mouth was more sensitive than it needed to be, and there was something left to do). Dr. Olson makes sure everything is in place when he works, and fluidly connects with staff. He corrected former work that should not have been falling apart, and I'm currently on maintenance cleanings (yay) with Christine, who makes me feel like I've had a good time, and I have. She is super gentle on my teeth, and informative at the same time. I've had some pretty horrific experiences with the dentist all my life. I've had root canals when I was younger and even simple fillings that were just done terribly. In my old age I'm pretty sure I'll have to have all dentures because of the mistakes I've made with my teeth. My family and I moved right next to the Olson office last year and went because of convenience.. and my husband is a huge UCLA fan which Dr. Olson is an alumni. Be warned.. they are expensive. But if I could do my whole life of dental work all over again.. I'd pay to have Dr. Olson work on them because I know they do an excellent job. I don't know much about dentistry but I do know when someone does a hack job and Dr. Olson does everything but that. I go in for a routine cleaning and he makes sure to check my teeth to make sure there isn't anything else new that popped up during the time I was away.
