After leaving one bad Mexican restaurant we found this place. Food was ok. Was disappointed about the chile relleno. It's Not like what it supposed to be. I call it lazy chile relleno! And very little rice , shredded beef taco was soggy taco. Another thing it's not even cool in there. It's 100 degrees outside. Should have AC going. We asked to turn on the fan above us. 15 minutes later they would turn it off! Who want to eat in a oven?! Really!! Well I gave it 3 stars only because they are friendly and well served! read more

The best thing that could have possibly happened to us after we broke down on the 395. We ate two dinners here, both delicious and very reasonably priced, conveniently on the corner of China Lake and Ridgecrest. Great Mexican! Attentive staff! Decent prices! A great place is you are craving Mexican! We rolled into town in the afternoon on Saturday. My 3 year old was demanding a quesadilla. So we jump on Yelp to find a place. We find this place. In a tiny building, with low ceilings and dated paint. But I'm not here for the paint!!! We are greeted by and shown a booth by the window. We are promptly brought water, chips and salsa. The chips were wonderful! The salsa tasted fresh and flavorful!! I order the carnitas, the 3 year old orders a quesadilla, the hubby orders enchiladas and a taco. My carnitas were amazing! The meat was cooked with onions and jalapeños. I've never had it that way... oh it was so good! It was like fajitas mixed with carnitas! I highly recommend it! The quesadilla was very good, I was able to snag a bite before the 3 year old gobbled it up! The taco was wonderful, and the enchiladas were great! I would recommend all of them to anyone! If you are searching for Mexican, this is your place! The decor.... meh. The staff was kind and quick to refill waters! The food was excellent! read more

Ridgecrest is an absolute middle of nowhere. I didn't expect anything edible there but Olvera's was such a pleasant surprise. As mentioned in other reviews, food is more like 4 stars (although still very good), however, everything else is definitely 5 stars. Portions were big, everything was promptly replenished for free and prices are really affordable. Total hole in the wall, and quite literally in the middle of the desert. I probably wouldn't drive out here just for this, but I'd consider it if I was within 50 miles. Ridgecrest surprisingly has a wide variety of restaurants. From French to Japanese, they have you covered. I guess that's the benefit of a U.S. Naval base nearby. I was covered in dust from the days explorations, and not wanting to wonder about the dress code of some other restaurants, opted for Olvera's. We walked in the front (which is actually the back) door. We were ushered into the front dining room, and promptly seated. The service was great. Chips and salsa were always full, and drinks topped off. And in the desert heat, you'll need that. I ordered the Acapulco Chimichanga with shrimp. I misread the menu thinking it was similar to other Acapulco Chimi's with shrimp, but it wasn't. Even so, it was pretty good. Not greasy at all. It's not blow your socks off awesome, but it rounds out my top 10. What really makes this place excel is the superb service. It's friendly but not overly so. No Mariachi music blowing out your ear drums, but enough background music to make the place feel relaxed. If you're in the area, check it out. If not for their superb air conditioner. read more

I called in an order a few days early. Was having a lazy moment where I knew I needed 8lbs of meat for a party at work. I ordered four pounds of chicken and four pounds of beef. Came in two large buckets. The flavor was amazing. Had peppers and onions in both. Really, really great flavor. The only reason for the 4 star review is that the price was $86. My wife and I have come to Ridgecrest several times on business and this restaurant is hands down the best Mexican food in town. My fish tacos blew others away and my wife's shrimp and mushrooms in white cream sauce was outstanding. We highly recommend this restaurant. Had high hopes for some local Mexican food, based on the reviews this would be the number 1 Mexican spot in the area. It unfortunately fell short of the high reviews. With 5 of us ordering different plates, each one was nothing to bat an eye at. The steak was over done, the fish was sub par, and the prices were not reflecting the single dollar sign. With an little extra step in seasoning and attention to detail this spot would indeed reach it's number one spot. read more

I've tried Olivera's three times over the past year or so, and only thought it was "very good" on one occasion. I had the fish tacos then, which were good. However, just tried them again today and they were bland and boring. (I made better ones at home and I didn't even have a recipe to go on.) One person in our party tried the "special," which was good (but not great). We didn't ask the price, but it ended up being over $13. For a dish that was not gourmet, and a lunch price, that was a bit much. I have never tried the lunch buffet, so maybe that is where they shine. The owner and staff are also very nice, so I feel bad giving them a so-so review. But I think they could do better on the food and prices. read more

By far my favorite Mexican food in the area. Fresh and made with care. From the chips & salsa to our food, everything was great. I am a chili relleno fan and it was delicious to my taste. My BF ordered a dinner plate with enchiladas, taco, & shrimp. Friends across the booth gotten the monster burrito which was beyond massive. Usually I won't write a review unless I hate it or love it. I can't believe we just found this place and we're moving next month from Ridgecrest. The buffet was wonderful and authentic. They had chili relleno, tamales, enchiladas, chili verde, flautas, fajitas, etc. The staff was very accommodating and helpful. Next time we will try the menu. We weren't sure what to expect when we walked in, we weren't even sure where the front of the restaurant was. Someone came out to take our to go order, and we asked the manager if we could sit outside and put the umbrella up for some shade while we ate. While we were waiting for our food, we saw the manager go outside and put up the umbrella for us (we fully intended on doing it ourselves). Then he came back inside and grabbed a bucket of water and a rag, and cleaned off all the tables outside. It was honestly more than we expected. When our food came out, he had it on a tray (in to go containers), with actual silverware, and a little basket of chips with some salsa! It was honestly quite delightful, for the simple fact of having not eaten in a real restaurant for a few months now. The food was average, I enjoyed the smaller portions because sometimes Mexican food is just A LOT. Honestly, if we had had crappy service, we may not have considered the food as good as we did. We look forward to going back when the world has returned to "normal" to get a second opinion. We are trying to do our best with giving the small businesses in town some love. read more

While I was working nearby and staying in Ridgecrest, I was struggling to find a decent place to eat that was open on a late Sunday night. I was fortunate enough that Yelp had my back. After a quick search of what was open, and had at least a 4 Star rating, I discovered Olvera's. I almost drove past as it is a very small place and I barely noticed a sign outside. I parked and went in to find a small 'Hole in the Wall' type of Restaurant. You know, the one's that you discover and are really glad you did. I was greeted by a young gentleman that promptly sat me and took my drink order while handing me a menu. Mere moments later, my server, a very friendly slightly older hispanic gentleman came and asked if I had any questions or if I was ready to order. After a brief discussion, I placed my order. Labarca Chile Verde and a Machaca Burrito... I can NEVER turn down Machaca, it's my absolute favorite if done right. My meal arrives quickly and a start by taking a bite of the Machaca to see how it is. DAMN! It was fantastic!!! Loads of the juiciest, most tender, flavorful shredded beef!!!!! Seriously, the flavor was off the charts. Might be one of the best I have had outside of Mexico. At this point I know I found a gem of a restaurant. I dig into my Chile Verde, once again, no disappointment at all. Very tender pork. It was quite good too... But, I really wanted to just eat Olvera's Machaca until I slipped into a happy, self induced food coma. The service was perfect. The location is laid back and comfortable. My only issue was a large table of obnoxious people that insisted on talking over each other and having to listen to their conversation. But that is not the fault of Olvera's. I strongly recommend giving this diamond in the rough a shot. read more

Olvera's makes great use of small space. The floors, booths, décor and even the condiments on the table are spotless. Someone loves their restaurant and it shows in the details. The prices were really good - everything in the ballpark of ten bucks for a full meal. You get a free basket of chips and salsa and both the chips and salsa are super tasty. I got a 'Mexican Flag' - three different styles of enchilada. I've never had such good enchiladas in my life and the beef ones were amazing. The beef was tender and moist and a really good cut. The chicken and cheese ones also did not disappoint. (I had to take some home in a box.) My roommate got tacos which looked fresh and amazing as well as grilled shrimp which was also fresh and not skimpy at all. The only complaint I could possibly scrape up is that the rice is a little bland, but it's really good mixed with the beans (which I wish I'd had a little more of.) The service was top notch - prompt, but also not rushing. I didn't have to wait for drink refills (nor anything else). The food was out in maybe ten mins? The menu itself is a little daunting and quite large because of the ads on the top and bottom but hey, if the ads mean I pay a little less for my dinner I'm fine with that. All in all, this is one of my new favourite places to eat in Ridgecrest and I'm going to definitely have to try their carry out. read more

Was waiting for an oil change and the guys at the shop recommended Olvera's. Walking in the front door the restaurant looked smaller than I thought but there's a larger seating area in the back. We arrived too late for the lunch buffet and I plan on returning to try it. We ordered the Mexican Tempura Shrimp and Carnitas. The Tempura Shrimp was crunchy and the shrimp large. Came with sautéed vegetables including spinach. An unexpected combination of good tastes. The Carnitas were also good. Came with beans and rice. Very pleased with the dining experience. Took home leftovers for another meal. Ice tea was also good (nothing worse than fountain tea or colored water). Great service. Parking available off Ridgecrest Blvd. Try it for yourself. read more

Not very Happy now that they charge you extra money if you ask for more chips and salsa..Really? Number one reason I love Mexican food is that you get chips and salsa free and they are so cheap to make, but it seems Olvera's has become cheap for charging for more chips and salsa, while no one else in town does..Will not becoming back. read more

Olvera's is a great and welcome surprise in Ridgecrest's dining landscape. I was raised in the Indian Wells Valley eating Mexican food that was heavy in salt and jalapeño pepper and cheese and not much else. A yummy combination to be sure, but the food at Olvera's is better and more complex than that. I had the Mexican Flag (three different enchiladas each in a different sauce). It was delicious and complex, each enchilada completely different from it's neighbor, but complementary in flavor. My only slight reservation comes from the inclusion of an Alfredo sauce on one enchilada. A different cheese sauce might have been better, but every bite from my plate was still delicious. I look forward to my next visit back to Ridgecrest so that I can try more items from Olvera's very large menu. read more

We enjoyed the Sunday buffet which included chiles rellenos, green and red tamales, enchiladas, burritos, chicken and beef fajitas as well delicious beans and rice.
