I've taken my daughter to salons and been turned away because they didn't know how to work with her hair. We had the absolute privilege of Shelise's gifted hands and she so generously gave us the education we desperately needed! My daughter is so happy with her hair now and literal strangers stop her every day just to compliment her hair. Even a hairdresser who spotted my daughter was asking who did her hair because it's just so exceptional! Following the hair prescription we were given by Shelise has genuinely transformed my daughter's hair. It's retaining moisture better than ever and feels so soft! I am pretty familiar with curly hair do's and don'ts, but this place has way more knowledge and skill to share.First- the physical environment is welcoming and cheery. Renee spent quite a bit of time assessing my hair and asking good questions, and sharing Soo much information about curly hair needs.The products used are organic and just divine. I have had a hard time managing my huge, frizzy, curly hair all my life! Once I went to Oly Curl I learned what products to use and how to use them properly. My hair is now moisturized and beautiful basically every day. I get a lot of compliments. The technique does involve layers and takes off quite a bit of length on some pieces - not overall length but the length of layers. So if your hair is on the verge of not fitting into a ponytail it will probably not fit into a ponytail after a cut just based on the cutting style. I actually kind of like/don't mind the "triangle" shape of hair that curly hairstylists like to avoid (I honestly don't think it's ugly!) so I can't say I feel super attached to the layering style but I certainly don't dislike it. If you're thinking about trying the salon, check out their page and see if the style of haircuts is one that you would like for yourself, and go if you like it! Olycurl is an amazing hair salon for curly girls and guys! I was so excited to find a place that specializes in curls that didn't require a drive into downtown Seattle. It is worth the 30 minute drive to have someone as knowledgeable as Yukiko and her staff care for my curls. I thought I knew all about how to care for my curls but after my first visit with them, I was surprised how little I knew! I have been going there for over 4 years now and won't trust anyone else with my curls. After years of bad cuts and 100s of dollars wasted on trying new hair products it was amazing to find Olycurl. Best experience ever! I was never taught how to take care of my curls. I joined many Facebook groups but was continuing to add chemicals that were bad. I went to olycurl as a last chance for help and was blown away. Yukiko was amazing and went through the products I use and why they're bad. She taught me how to wash and moisturize my type of hair correctly. She individually cuts each curl and discuses each curl pattern and texture. Yes, it's expensive than a "normal" hair salon but I am getting the individual attention for each curl clump, I am being taught how to properly take care of my hair, and each person their is educated on curly hair. Coming to a specialty salon whose owner and staff have devoted years of time and training to learning from industry experts and also developing their own expertise is not something you can reasonably expect to translate into a "cheap" haircut. Yukiko and her staff take the time to listen to what you want. You get a Curl by Curl cut, with a critical eye to ensure even shaping and high quality. The salon has all kinds of little extras, from tea to sip while you're getting your cut, to an essential oil massage at the end, peppered with chatty dialogue and really valuable hair styling and product tips and information. If you have curly hair and you need some support to understand how to properly care for it, you need OIyCurl. I have also gotten color done there, and yes, it's expensive! Professional expert color application is not an inexpensive process. However, when I decided to let my silver come in and stop coloring it, even though that represented a potential loss of revenue for the salon, I was fully supported in my decision. Honestly my first visit was amazing! They chopped it all off and washed out the silicone and taught me a little about my hair! I always recommended this place to people who complimented my hair! But the past two visits where horrible! The owner did my hair both times so I figured it would be great! She ripped my hair brushing it into a direction it didn't want to go and both times she styled it Ive never been so embarrassed and disappointed, she would even make fun of my hair while she was doing it making me feel very insecure. I was very disappointed and I don't plan on ever going back if I'm paying $200 to be insulted and walk out looking ridiculous and having them say "it's just my weird hair... " I only went in for a silicone wash out and they told me I had to get a full service? So all I wanted was a wash but instead I had to have my hair ripped out and I had to sit through styling (and insults) that had a horrid outcome... I figured I would go home and style it myself and I would just forget about them like I did the last time, but ever since I went in I have dandruff and my hair is almost harder to manage.. Best haircut of my life!!! I will never go back to another salon! They are experts on a variety of hair textures and styles, and totally transformed my dry hair into beautiful, glossy curls! They use all natural products from the "Innersense" hair product online, so there are no harmful chemicals involved. After the cut, they taught me how to recreate the effect at home. I am now a regular customer. I LOVE all the staff. They are so friendly and personal. They always remember my name and details about my life. I feel like they truly care. They're all amazing!! Worst hair salon ever. I spent $300 at my first appointment for a cut and products. I go back to get it colored and leave in tears. It you want to waste your money this is the salon for you. They are not there to teach you to love your curls like they say. I wanted help to learn the techniques and I WAS TURNED AWAY!!! Horrible horrible horrible!!! Plus when I went into my appointment it was with a totally different person than my original stylist. I was never told my appointment would be with a new person. read more

Never in my 30 years of life have I come home from a haircut and cried nor have I woken up the next morning and cried! I made it very clear to the woman who was doing my hair in our 10 15 minute initial chat that length was very important to me I said it multiple times she said oh I totally hear you I completely understand I talked about how all I wanted was a trim because again length was very important to me she promised I would not get one of those bad haircuts and she lied! No where did I give her permission to cut 4 to 6in off of my hair!my hair grows extremely slow on every part of my body especially my head it's going to take me 3 years to grow this out! I am not able to put my hair up in any of the ways that I used to which are extremely important to me! When I went and finally sat down in the hairdresser's chair she touched my hair to the back of her seat and said that that was where my length was going to fall instead it is 4in above that nowhere did I tell her please cut my hair that is down below my shoulders up to my collarbone! She didn't even let me see the pile of hair that she cut off of my head she made sure to quickly turn me around so I could start looking in the mirror while she cleaned up! I would have had a better result if you would have washed and set my curls the way that your products do before even trimming my hair at all and I didn't get a trim I got my hair hacked off and it's not even I don't like layers I never have I'm not into big poofy hair! I can't believe I paid you $155 for this truly a waste of my hard-earned money! It would be really great if you would offer new clients a consultation with a wash condition and curl set without needing to have a cut! I know better than to allow people to cut my hair and she promised I would not be having one of those nightmare haircuts but she gave me the worst haircut of my entire life! Upon reviewing my intake form that she wrote information on she didn't even write on there how important length was to me she wrote on there no wispy ends that's not my goal my goal was to get as well maintained of hair with as much length as possible even if that meant doing a micro trim now and doing another micro Trim in a month or two but I did not want this much cut off of my hair! I truly feel like I was not listened to at all it didn't matter what I said she was doing her own thing because you know she's the trained professional and I'm not! My hair isn't even there are huge patches that have shrunk way more than others I look like I got a choppy Bob and a cheap haircut!Never again would I let her touch my hair! WORST HAIRCUT EVER!! With all her rules for a first time client she really knows how to disappoint a person. I thought I would walk out of there feeling like a million bucks since the cost was 165.00 for only a HAIRCUT. She asked if I was looking to want bangs again and before I could even say AND she chopped my hair OFF - I wanted to cry and hide when I left - it's been almost 2 months since the cut and it will take at least a year for my hair to grow back to the gorgeous curls I had prior to seeing Yukio - My right side is over 2 inches shorter then the left side. My previous DEVA CURL STYLIST would cut individual curls so the goal for that is to have your curls continue with their curl memory and bounce back with more curl after each cut. I came to Oly Curl cause everyone was talking about how great it was. I learned a very expensive lesson and now I have to wear my hair up cause I can't style it the way it use to be. Today I decided to write the review cause the person who referred me actually got up and walked out of her appointment because they forgot about her in under the drier.
