Sara did my hair and it was by far the best hair cut I've ever got! The shop was really rad looking and they played good music. I wasn't super duper sure what I wanted but whatever changes I needed in the cut Sara helped with (even when I kept asking for a certain part shorter) I was scared she would get annoyed but she was the sweetest! The prices were reasonable (they have a teen hair cut price which was awesome for me because most discounts like that are just for younger kids) and the shop just had a perfect vibe. It's over all just an amazing place. This is actually the first time I reviewed a place, it's not really my thing but this spot was just so cool I had too. I will definitely be returning. read more

It took me a while to find a decent hair stylist in Olympia but fortunately for me I came upon this wonderful establishment! Love the folks who work here love their politics Love knowing that I can go someplace and feel safe and get a decent haircut. Unfortunately they have not bought any of the Google advertising packages so now mysteriously after almost 30 years of business Google doesn't even list them when you do a search, no pay no play for Google. Unfortunately, I received what is "the worst haircut of my life" from Sara. I went to her with the goal of growing out a bob with hair tapered and framed around the face. The first haircut was great! She did exactly what I wanted. Three months later I went back for a trim. What I got was the front half my head of hair made into a long bang, and the back of my hair left long. I went back to see if she could fix it, but it just made it worse. I've had a mullet now for a few months. The only way I can wear my hair is with a clip to hold the bang back so the whole thing isn't laying 2/3 of the way down on my face. It's so bad that it's funny (most of the time). I recently went to Sara for a cut & full copper highlights and it was such a fun experience! We've only had 1 or 2 appointments together, but it's the most relaxed I've had in a hair stylist setting before! It's hard to not feel judged or shy in a normal hair salon, but the entire vibe at Jamie Lee's is so welcoming and inclusive! Horrible experience with Kylie! when I pay $260 each appointment for hair color I certainly don't expect failure to achieve the desired color after achieving the 1st appointment and still be charged, to make matters worse Kylie melted off a good volume of my hair by over processing it, failing to say anything to me. I could go on about the whole story but there's no point. I gave Kylie multiple chances to make things right, instead she flipped everything on me, while Kylie took no responsibility what so ever. I was pleasant every time I saw her patiently hoping she'd be able to correct the color, while drying my hair she stopped and walked out of the salon, leaving someone else to finish drying my hair. She didn't say a word to me, just walked out! Later I text her saying I was disapointed that she walked out, her reply to me was she knew I was going to blow up on her, she felt it professional if her to walk away. I never gave any indication of being upset with her to justify that action. She further claimed I was being a bully????? How I have no idea, she texted a few other things that were childish followed by texting I'm a miserable old women and what the F was I going to do about it!! Completely unacceptable, unprofessional & irresponsible behavior! I have filed a complaint with the board of cosmetology as well as the BBB. read more

I decided to give this place a try... finally. I must have walked by 100 times. I desperately needed something done with my hair. I walked in after a complete box-color fail and asked for a miracle. I got it. I called to see if a short notice appointment was available and completely lucked out getting Kylie. She absolutely did magic. It was completely 100% worth every penny. Admittedly I was nervous. This place looks cool and quirky, and I'm really not sure I was cool or edgy enough. Kylie is young and rad. I have so much fear about a new salon, and eeeek a new stylist. But I have been feeling like a change for the new year, and needed help. BAMMO!! I got it. It was fun to hear all the cool things people were doing with their hair...and many other things going on. This place is absolutely awesome and so is Eric! I had been going to Eric for several years and he always did an amazing job on my hair. He knows what he is doing and listens to what you want, I mean really listens. I have never left his chair feeling iffy, so-so, or meh about my hair. Every time I have left I feel fabulous. He is an engaging person to talk to. He is honest about your hair and will help select a good color and style. He knows what he is talking about. So fast forward, I had a baby and with the huge daycare costs my discretionary spending went out the window so I started trying to save money by going to Hairmasters and the like. After my hair was turned orange ( asked for blonde highlights) I should have had the sense to just save some money and go back to Eric. BUT NO, I had to try to have someone less experience fix it. What happened? My hair turned up being black and white striped, with grey ends. Kid ya not. Think Cruella Deville meets a zebra meets sewer water. I called Eric and begged him to take me back and forgive me for cheating on him. He was nicer than ever and squeezed me in the NEXT day. THe whole process of fixing my hair took 3 1/2 hours but he did an amazing job and charged me his normal rate. I have learned the hard way - you get what you pay for and with hair - you need to make the choice to just save some money or go longer periods of time to get your done rather than scrimping in this area. My sister, sister in law, and mom all go to Eric and have for years. We love him. I am back for good. read more

This place is badass! Missa is a true craftswoman with an ability to understand exactly what you want complete with a scalp massage, a fade, a fat adorable cat and a colorful personality! This two story shop is lined with local art, pink walls and the famous mojaked poodle poster. Great product line, great service, great hair. I'm not one of those people who gets their haircut regularly and had their stylist's number programmed into their phone. But. I've been to see Jason here a few times and i think he's pretty awesome. The vibe inside is so cool! You would never guess from the front but it's giant inside. The back hair washing room is peaceful and there is plenty of good conversation to eavesdrop on on the front. I always feel well attended to and Jason really takes his time getting to know what your hair "needs" are. They finish off your haircut with a Moroccan oil treatment and you'll spend the rest of the day marvelling about how shiny and soft your hair is. I've gotten tons of compliments on how cute and healthy my hair looks so I'll definately be going to Jason for awhile! read more

Around 4pm Jamie called me and said she was supposed to be off at 5 but if I wanted to come in she would do a cut/ dye for me. I'm so happy I went in! Went to Jamie Lee and Co. for the first time today. It's a fun upbeat place with funky bright colored decor. Kylie cut my hair and while it is a simple bob its now slightly wedged at the bottom and cut out underneath making it light and easy to dry and it's super even. Jason made me feel super dapper and well taken care of. I have a poor excuse for a beard but needed a trim and wanted to keep my top length while still looking cleaned up. He listened to me while also providing a skilled and thoughtful touch. He used scissors on my sideburns and undercut, I never felt like he was rushing through the cut. He made conversation that wasn't forced. The cut was a bit more than i usually pay , but I don't think it was too much for the time and care he took. I'd rather spend it on a great haircut than blow 20 bucks at Great Clips and pray the entire time they don't buzz my head. I went in with a vague description on purpose, because I wanted a change, though I wasn't sure what, and knew a professional could tell me. I ended up with a super cute, long-layered medium cut, with pretty face framing layers in the front. I was hesitant, because I have had the best cuts and also the worst with my difficult hair, but I couldn't be happier! The vibe of the place was great, very comfortable and unique, with lots of interesting things to look at while getting my cut. A potential con: However, if you have a bad cat allergy this may not be go, as mentioned in other reviews. My husband's hair is REALLY hard to cut.. like decades-since-he's-had-a-good-cut hard to cut. The day before our wedding the scruffiness was too much to bear, so we got him in with Sarah at the last minute. From our perspective it was a big gamble, but the payoff was immense! I've lived in Olympia all of my life and have seen this quirky little salon a million times while in downtown so I was excited to try them but I'm really disappointed with the whole experience. I had Jamie as my stylist. I've been growing my hair out from a pixie and needed my length trimmed and evened out. From the time I arrived it was awkward. She didn't say on the phone what the procedure was for Covid so I was confused when I arrived. She isn't very approachable and didn't ask me hardly any questions about me or my hair. I work in the hair industry but she wouldn't know that cause she didn't seem too interested in getting to know me. But I kept trying to ask her questions to keep the conversation going, it was like pulling teeth. She didn't tell me about any products she used in my hair, or much about the lines they carry. When I was styling my hair at home I noticed that one side was longer then the other and my bangs were uneven and chunky. I fixed the cut myself. She said she has been doing hair for 35 years and it seems she has gotten careless. read more

Yet again working with Somer at Jamie Lee & Company was a great experience w/great results! This time we did lots of bright hair color again and a new side shave too. Hair dye colors this time was Orchid, true blue, and pink (which you can see more from a side or back view). Somer is always supportive of my hair ideas I come in with, which is great as I'm getting a little more adventurous each time. You can see all my old reviews of Somer and old color & cut photos below. As usual it's a 3 step process, bleach, color, cut. Somer is careful to only bleach the part that wasn't bleached before so my hair doesn't get too damaged, and also advise me of the long term impact of each color. For example blues fade to blue and it is hard to put any other color over the blue so we stuck w/blue in the front again which works out great. Pink fades to a lighter pink which would impact what color you put over it next time but that's fine since I'll put purple or more pink over it next time. I was basically a color newbie before Somer and she has taught me all I need to know about it. I get the ombre style which has various lengths of my natural brown up top so it still looks good as it grows out & fades. I still really value her mellow calm and positive demeanor since it's a 4 hour experience to get all of it done. My hair's been growing out for about 20-ish years and the last time it was trimmed was about 10 years ago. Having shot right past boredom and straight into ennui with my long hair, I searched out salons on Yelp and found Jamie Lee & Company. The shop itself is funky and fits in perfectly with the downtown core. The people (and shop cats! Thanks Otto--you are a handsome cat.) are welcoming. Sarah took a long look at my hair, asked my likes and dislikes and gave me a great, no, really GREAT haircut. She also braided up my hair so it could be donated to Locks of Love and she deserves extra hugs for that suggestion. Sarah took her time with the cut, checking and double-checking to make things perfect. And then she checked it all again after it had dried. I left looking a little like Amelia Earhart in a good way and even my "I really like long hair" husband loves the way it looks. I was so pleasantly surprised with the shop--Sarah's area was decorated with a ton of images including 1940s pin-up--very cool. Best of all, the shop didn't smell like a toxic waste dump--you know, the smells of perms and dyes and...and... It smelled nice. Maybe they have a terrific ventilation system or maybe it's the Moroccan Oil products, I don't know, but I didn't leave feeling like my lungs had been fumigated. Look, I'm not a "girly" girl (or woman, for that matter) and my appearance is not a huge deal to me, but I'll happily go back both to keep the look she gave me and to experience JL&Co. again. read more
