Second visit - fine cappuccino, experienced baristas and interesting version of Kouign Amman - unconventional, but very tasty!

I think this is the best coffee shop/cafe that I've been to. Friendly service and a great environment to be in. Let me tell you about the coffee though... I ordered the caramel latte and IT WAS AMAZING! The flavor of the coffee was so rich. It was strong enough to keep me going for the rest of the day, but not too overpowering to make me jittery. They also have a bathroom and complimentary water on the side. I'm pretty sure they have wifi since a few people were using their laptops, but I never checked. read more

I'm a regular customer here and was shocked when I bought a 12 oz. mocha and two pastries that the price was over $21. There are no posted prices for the pastries, so of course I asked the cashier why on earth the price was so unreasonable. I don't mind spending a little more to shop and support local businesses, but over $21 for a mocha and two pastries is totally unreasonable unless you've got so much money that it's no object. The attitude of the people working there when I asked about the prices was hostile. In fact, the person who was waiting on me WALKED AWAY in the middle of the transaction, before I asked about the prices. I don't think I'll go back anytime in the near future. The prices are out of touch with the reality of how much things cost individuals. read more

I gave them 1 star based on their coffee - not their great customer service. They do not offer anything other than very acidic medium roasts. There is a trend amongst high end coffee shops to abandon the traditional dark roasts because they are more common and less exclusive. This shop is a prime example. I went in and asked for a drip coffee with their darkest roast. Their darkest roast was somewhere in the medium range. It was very acidic and left me with terrible cotton mouth and heartburn like all light roasts tend to do. Very unpleasant to drink. So much so that I went to starbucks right afterwards because even though starbucks isn't great - it's not AWFUL. Advice to shop: Get some dark roasts so your customers can drink your coffee without getting cotton mouth and heartburn. Some customers hate light roasts (my wife and I). read more

My wife and I love our weekend ritual getting drinks at Olympia Coffee. While she typically gets a Vanilla Latte, I always get excited for the seasonal drink. Fortunately for Olympia Coffee, they got me hooked on the Lavender Latte. Unfortunately for everyone, they've replaced it with some bummers (Sweater Weather and Orange something). On my way back up to Seattle and needed a little pick me up. Found this place not to far off of I-5. The barista was a bit on the low energy side, he looks like he must be college kid so he's probably fried from cramming for finals, i won't hold that against him. If it was just about the coffee I would give this place 5 stars, it was very good actually. Olympia Coffee Roasting is a great stop when traveling from PDX to Seattle. Great space and vibe to enjoy their various coffee offerings. My favorite is the affogato, 2 scoops of ice cream with 2 shots of expresso. Nice place to relax. High ceiling, large windows. Tables and seating that allows you to work if necessary. This place is the real deal. They take pride in the coffee they make, and they have both the skill and equipment to make fantastic coffee. I usually know it's a good sign when a cappuccino or straight espresso is served with a side of seltzer water - they want you to cleanse your palate between sips because there's complexity in the espresso to explore. And since they do a lot of light-to-medium roasts here, you'll definitely be tasting the coffee and not just the roast. One of my favorite coffee bars in town. In terms of craft I might even like them more than Batdorf and Bronson, my goto place. read more

The coffee tastes amazing! I always want a second one when I hang out here. There is space to set up your laptop, the music is exactly what I expect at a Café and it's just cool here. There is also a bench outside with little "tables" to put your coffee on. I just wish there were more healthy snack options and not just pastries. read more

Business is friendly, clean, cheerful and a great experience. Suggest a nice stroll from Bucks Herbs to Rainy Day Records and Orca Books, over to 5th for coffee at Olympia Coffee Roasters. OCR's coffee is my favorite in town, but I'm on a mission to call out Oly businesses with objectionable tipping policies. I'm not a stingy tipper. I always tip $1 per drink because I think the barista skills are amazing: consistently delicious coffee, masterfully poured with either an artful foam I'm incapable of reproducing or the specific dryness I request. But, during the height of the pandemic OCR required a 15% tip for all purchases. My income was slashed to a mere 40% and I kissed lattes goodbye while occasionally treated myself to a bag of whole bean coffee. Groceries. They demanded a 15% tip and lost a customer for some time. When things picked back up and I returned for my first prepared drink in ages, I also purchases a pastry. I bought 2 drinks and the barista asked if I would like to leave a tip to which I replied, of course! $2. They angrily snapped back at me that the minimum was 15% which was 10 more cents all for extra trouble of putting a pastry in a bag for me. I wish I had the presence of mind to have said nevermind, no tip. I don't know what the treatment is like for OCR employees but with a snap like that I have to assume that while OCR has the cash to expand across the Puget Sound region their employees seem a little stressed and the tipping policy was a no. The discussion has been had. Bring an end to tipping culture and be proud to pay employees a living wage. read more

We are visiting Olympia and were told to try this coffee shop and we are so happy we did. The baristas were very friendly and helpful. I got a pour over coffee (which was delicious) and my mother got a latte (which was also delicious). We tried their macaroon and it was the best I ever had. I suggest trying one while you are there! The 3rd location of this truly local micro-roaster is modern, clean and still hip. They represent the 2013 Micro-Roaster of the Year for good reason. Starbucks will never be the same after you get hooked on this roast and these talented barristers. We don't how many locations it takes before little becomes too big, but they are safe with this 3rd joint. There are tables & chairs as well as a bar with stools overlooking the espresso or the outside windows. The lighting is natural with the large windows flowing around the open designed interior. But it's all about the coffee, which is grand! Their POS is a iPad which allows for credit card sales on Square. read more

Really great coffee. Except we really disliked the nitro cold brew, but we've tried elsewhere and still didn't like it. So it's a personal preference. Their pour over coffee is tasty. It really is the best coffee in oly. They don't do Foo Foo coffee. It is very simple but very good. When I say simple, it isn't in a bad way. It is just pure good coffee. I've even transitioned away from my espresso drinks and prefer their pour over coffee. This place has turned me into a coffee snob. Perhaps Stumptown is the only other coffee joint that can rival OCR. read more

I was in town on business and I had an hour to kill, so I decided to come by. I had heard of their beans and was happy to find that they had a café ten minutes away from the firm I was visiting. Had the cappuccino and a double espresso. The cappuccino was perfect- the milk was foamy but dense at the same time, in a way that I've never tasted. The espresso itself was subtle, with a hint of brightness. I enjoyed it for a bit while I got some work done, and then followed up with an espresso. I was expecting a quality shot, but what the barista presented me with was almost a full ounce of crema. It was so delicious and packed with bright, intense citrusy flavor. How did they do that? So much crema! I would drive down from Seattle for this. I really would. read more

Coffee is really good! The barista was very knowledgable about his coffee and he made a wicked soy latte and the foam was perfect :) The only complaint I would have is that they don't have any other milk alternative other than soy milk. Oh, and for snackies the only options are muffins, loafs, or some version of sugar loaded baked gluten-full pastries. I like how they're just trying to keep it simple, but add a little more options for us GF/vegan/vegetarian granola eaters :) But over all, yummy cup of joe :) read more
