The good: the movers themselves were kind, professional, and speedy. The bad: the estimates are very high and the terms of the move are different in the estimate than the emails they send. The ugly: they charge significantly higher rates than legally permitted under their filed tariff with MA DPU. I did not realize this until after they inflated the time of my move to 6 hours from 4.5 hours citing travel (both locations I was moving were less than 20 mins from their warehouse). They charged me $272/hr when the max rate allowed under their tariff for a truck, foreman, and two helpers was $202. They charged me $130 for fuel when the max allowed was $45. They charged me $163 for materials but would not itemize the charges for me as required by the tariff. They stopped communicating via email when I pointed out these discrepancies after promising me a reply (twice) and never responding. They also auto charged my card I deposited with without verifying the final total with me. They overcharged me relative to the legal limits upwards of $750, maybe more because they wouldn't provide the itemization or the times used. They fall back on the estimate they originally provided which said the move could cost up to $2000 but the estimate is using inflated rates and taking advantage of people's desperation for August moves. I've had to file a complaint with DPU and a chargeback on my debit card for the $840 they charged me above my $1100 deposit without confirmation of the charges. It's a shame because I tipped the movers themselves $300 for how great their service was, but the central office needs to either update their rates with the state or abide by the tariff they filed in 2017 and not take advantage of people who don't realize they're being overcharged. Update: * I still haven't been contacted by the sales manager but I want to highlight that the reply from the manager was incorrect. *I was repeatedly told that the minimum for a local move was FOUR hours, not six, and that they just couldn't edit the PDF. *I accepted an estimate assuming the office was going to operate in good faith. They did not, as the owner admits here the reason I was overcharged was in fact what I suspected: they applied a six hour minimum instead of a four, and all the stuff about travel was a lie (as was the initial promise that the minimum was 4) *I requested an itemized invoice repeatedly and still don't have one. I also don't have a reply to several follow up emails about this move that could have avoided all of this. I fully intended to pay until the business acted in a shady manner. That other movers also behave in a shady manner and so they're "competitive" doesn't resolve the issue. When I couldn't get a straightforward response I had to dig deeper and found these other issues. Even then I tried to make it right and couldn't get an answer. Don't let the owner gaslight here - as he seems to do in many of these comments. And they still got paid the amount owed as per their DPU tariff (the actual one, not this mystery one from 2022, which they also *could have provided me when asked but did not*) read more

Pretty disappointing. It felt like they did the bare minimum: all the boxes made it into my house, but they were dumped as close to the front hall as possible. It was a small local move (Dot to Brighton) and I wonder if that's why it didn't have their attention. I had to call a couple times to get someone on the phone to confirm they were coming, which was stressful. For the price, I expected the boxes would make it into the rooms they were labeled with, but it felt like they were rushing, not just being quick. Mark and Bob moved furniture in our campus building, at first being requested to move and trash a desk. Over the course of a few days, the plan changed as we found more furniture needing to be moved. Hello, I am writing to let you know that on Tuesday November 21,2023,a crew from your company was sent to our school, the Joseph Hurley School in Boston's South End. They delivered and installed 6 large storage cabinets. The quality of the work was superb from beginning to end. They were professional, knowledgeable and thorough. Every member of the crew was on task. When they arrived and delivered the first cabinet we informed them that they needed to be anchored to the wall for safety reasons. They measured and designed the best way to make sure the cabinets were not only anchored but leveled as well. They left to get the materials needed to do the job properly. The crew returned with ALL of the equipment and tools needed to do a PERFECT job. Ionel Caspreac and the rest of the crew did not cut corners or settled for mediocre work. Instead they made sure that the cabinets were safely anchored, leveled and centered to the long wall. I can not thank them enough. It is refreshing to have work like this be done. Olympia came out to assist in packing and shipping some items from TX to Europe for us for a move. We basically set aside 2 utility shelves of unpacked items and some things hastily thrown into boxes, but in no way packed or secured. Add on to this a number of guitars and framed items and it... was pretty much a mess on our part. Enter Nequita, Geo and Nick and basically magic occurred. In a surprisingly short period of time, they packed and organized that chaos into boxes with a full inventory list. Moving internationally is incredibly stressful and it was an absolute delight that Nequita and her team could remove such a major piece of stress for us so easily. Review is for student storage: I packed boxes myself, they picked up boxes at my university, they moved boxes to their storage warehouse, and I picked up my boxes at the warehouse outside of Boston. My situation is a bit atypical due to the start of the pandemic (March 2020) and there were a few hiccups, but in a nutshell, Olympia did a great job. I filled up 6 large boxes, left them in my campus housing, and Olympia confirmed pick up a week later. COVID ended up being way worse than anticipated and the university did not allow students back on campus after summer, so my 5-mo storage ended up being 10-mo. There were a few issues, but I suspect the unusual circumstances of having so many students use their services contributed. Olympia was slow to respond to storage pick-up requests and had payment method security compromised (which could be concerning). But everyone I interacted with in person or on the phone was great. Very friendly and helpful, even giving directions to the warehouse while I was driving. My items are intact and nothing was broken. I got to peek inside their storage warehouse, and it's very clean and organized too. Would recommend! read more

Olympia packed me on Aug. 25 and Aug. 27. This was a long distance move from MA to CA. We took most jewelry in our suitcases, but my wife left three items in the master bathroom--two rings (including wedding band) and a necklace that she wanted to wear on the flight to CA. Well guess what the master bathroom was the first room they packed on Aug. 25, and then on Aug. 27 when we asked them to help us open the boxes so that we could retrieve the jewelry the master bathroom boxes were the first boxes loaded onto the truck. No surprise that the jewelry was stolen. Why do I say stolen instead of "lost"? Because it was gold jewelry in a little pouch with some silver earrings my wife was planning on wearing, and the pouch and silver made it safe and sound, but the gold was all gone. Whoever packed the master bedroom also did a sloppy job. My ties were found on the bottom of a box, covered with hangers. I had to head out for a moment to drop my wife off at the hotel, and came back to see them wrapping up my outdoor furniture, including grill, inside my home, on my rug. Guess they were too busy covering up the jewelry theft to wrap up the rug. They were also very aggressive with their electric screwdriver and stripped many screws disassembling furniture, much of which wasn't made to be disassembled. Yes they just unscrewed everything that had a screw and lost some of the hardware. I had to go buy screws on delivery day. They had to remove a patio door to take out a sofa (that I have removed myself before with no issue) and they stripped all the screws putting it back in. They were so aggressive with the screwdriver that one of the screws actually snapped in half inside the bed frame when the movers in CA were reassembling the bed. Valuable original artworks were found stuffed into boxes diagonally with heavy objects on either side with minimal padding. Lots of dings and scratches on furniture, including a glass shelf that cracked in half. To cover themselves the inventory list for furniture everything marked as heavily worn/heavily soiled. This is my third time moving in MA and the CA movers were fine. Olympia was egregiously bad, I'm surprised there wasn't more damage given the sloppy way things were packed. read more

This is my second time using Olympia movers and I highly recommend them for their expertise, attention to detail, efficiency, customer service, and pricing. We have moved 4 previous times to and from Hawaii from the "Mainland" US since 2012. This is considered an international move and is one of the more complex moves. With previous moves we packed most of our items ourselves, which is very time consuming and difficult. This last move was using Olympia's full service move because a parent passed away and I was not able to travel due to the Pandemic. My parent had a very full one bedroom apartment with numerous fragile art objects and statuary, as well as full closets, drawers and cabinets. I have been unpacking and have been so impressed with the care that was taken with my loved one's possessions. Drawers were emptied, wrapped, boxed, and labeled. Furniture that could be disassembled was carefully done. All furniture was then wrapped in padded paper and then protected with plastic. Olympia also supplies their own boxes and packing materials, which are high quality heavy duty boxes that better protect items and do not crush when stacked (if packed properly). When the shipping container arrived in Hawaii it was impressive to see that it was packed perfectly, with heavy items on the bottom. It was also packed efficiently using all available space and then secured so the load would not shift. When reviewing the invoice and knowing the work involved for this move the price was very fair. I could tell that the movers worked very quickly, and carefully, the entire time they were on the job. This move also included a second day where a 10x10 storage space had to be emptied. Again, the Olympia team excelled and used their judgement to protect and wrap items that required protection. You can tell that this is a well run, honest company with well trained, friendly, and professional staff. read more

Some people say it could always be worse - but not much worse than Olympia moving. We hired this company for a local move within Northern VA. 80% of the move went okay; however, on the load out day the team was on their phones watching the world cup. Not great when they are being paid by the hour. The real problems came when we loaded in to the new house. The team unloaded most things just fine. In our case again 80% was good; however there were things that were carelessly thrown into boxes. At one point, one of the movers was stripping a screw putting the feet of an expensive custom couch on to where I had to yell to get his attention and have him stop. In one case we had a shredder that was transported and dropped down a set of stairs. Not a big deal right? Just file a claim and we should be good to go right? Not the case with Olympia. Any claims that exceed the deductable appear to magically just not be there problem. There is a great sense that some of the folks that worked our move were picked up from in front of home depot that day. Seriously consider another company - this organization is not professional and does not care about your belongings. read more

Loved the fact that Eddie did a virtual walkthrough rather than asking us to detail everything we needed moved in order to get an estimate. Eddie made us feel very comfortable with the process right from the beginning. I tried to get multiple estimates, but one company did not call me back and the other wanted me to detail everything we wanted moved on my own in order for them to provide us an estimate. I did not have time for that type of task as we needed to focus on actually packing. On our move day, Jason, Charlie and Rodrigues made a great team. Very professional, very efficient and at the end of our move actually managed to get our oversized couch into our unit when they had doubts about it initially. They worked with my Husband to make a plan to remove treads in our riser-less staircase and they were able to get the couch onto our second floor by lifting it through the staircase. I used Olympia to locally move my family from an apartment into a house this summer. The crew was on time, friendly, and fast. However, the crew showed up without materials to move my TVs (and therefore couldn't take them). They claimed the Olympia office did not tell them any TVs were involved in our move. Even if that were true, why would they show up to a residential move without TV packing materials? Everyone has at least one TV! During the move, someone from Olympia called to ask how it was all going. I told them about the TVs issue, and they said they would get back to me with a solution. Never did. I contacted my customer service rep at Olympia to tell him what happened, he never responded. So there I was, having to make separate arrangements to move our two TVs ourselves a couple days later. In the process, one of them got damaged and broke. Olympia was great the first time I used them a few years ago, but after the move this summer, I have no plans to call on them again. read more

Quick review: First off, the actual movers from the company who came to do the hard work of moving items were fantastic. They were incredibly careful with all the items, including many fragile items. They packed up my kitchen amazingly. They were not properly informed by the sales manager ahead of time of the large scope of work they were assigned, but they handled it amazingly anyway. They were very communicative and fun to work with. Longer review: Olympia Moving & Storage is a good moving company, but they appeared to be having a fair amount of turnover in their sales managers when I scheduled my move. The first person assigned to me had their last day a week later, and I had to call to get a new person assigned to handle my move. After calling, they were very apologetic and helpful. They very quickly were able to schedule phase 1 of my move the next day as planned. There seemed to be a disconnect between the sales manager/move coordination team and the actual movers, as on the day of my large move, the actual movers were not aware that they had to move all the items in my apartment in addition to the small number of items I had placed in their storage for a month. As such, they only brought 3 movers initially when they really needed 4, so had to call to get a 4th person to come help. Also, the amount they had to charge for labor hours ended up making the final cost ~25% over the initial quote. I would say that you should make sure that the sales managers are fully aware of everything you need packed and moved, so that they can provide a more accurate quote (mostly based on number of movers needed and hours to move). The relocation manager tried to scam me after I agreed to a move-in date with the movers. She said that her team didn't have the authority to do that, and that I was forced to take receipt on a date I didn't agree to nor wasn't even in the area. To make matters worse, she FORGED MY executed Bill of Lading by Whiting out where I put the delivery date, tried to cover it up by writing the delivery location instead, and completely misspelled it highlighting the forgery even more. read more

Olympia completed a one day pack and two day load with our possessions going into storage. The crew loaded all but our largest items directly into the storage crates that they wii store for us until we are ready to move into our new home. The packers were fast and efficient. The loading crew sized up the job and started carrying boxes from both upstairs and our basement during the assessment. There was no wasted motion. Our walls did not receive a single ding, and the crew was wonderful to work with. Dan was our estimator, and he nailed the weight. Things changed a bit from the estimate to the actual move, but with our additions, I'd guess he was within 2% of the final weight. I'd call on them again. read more

My decision to choose Olympia Moving & Storage Company for my recent move (June, 2020) from Newton, MA, to Bourne, MA, is definitely one I regret. Several documented particulars of the move from February until the day before were (1) the arrival time at my Newton home was to be between 7:00 and 7:30 a.m.; and (2) a team of three men would arrive on the day of the move. The reality is (1) only the Crew Foreman arrived at my home but not until 8:30 and not with an Olympia moving van but rather a Budget rental truck; and (2) the other two team workers were at my home in Bourne at 8:30 a.m., apparently having been told by someone at Olympia that the move was to originate there. Those two workers had to then travel from Bourne to Newton (75 miles) to assist the Crew Foreman. Research has proven that any residential move is indeed quite stressful. In my case, that stress was intensified by the unprofessional ineptitude that was quite evident on the morning of the move. Suffice it to say there are many professional, reliable, and competent moving companies in Massachusetts. I can attest to the fact that Olympia Moving & Storage Company is clearly not one of them. read more

The onsite moving crew was disrespectful to our personal belongings (opening up packaged contents), disrespectful to our home (leaving garbage on a restroom countertop, opening windows, opening blinds), sales staff underestimated the truck size resulting in additional cost and time, truck elongated drive time to the destination in an effort to gain overtime. Management was unwilling to partner with us to come to an agreeable financial resolution and, instead, charged the credit card without authority. We've moved many many...many...many times... in the past few years, locally and cross country (twice). Olympia, by far, has been the best experience we've ever had with movers. The team that packed us and the team that moved us were all courteous, friendly, professional, and efficient. They were all cool under pressure -- moving our baby grand piano uphill and then up some steps into our house. They kept me informed of any scratches or dings before they moved anything to make sure I was aware. The items that they had to reassemble were all done with great care. I find it's usually the team that makes a company work well and the teams they sent to us were fantastic. The quote from the estimator was a bit off. If we hadn't slowly moved a few things out of our old place to the new one over the course of a few months, the estimate would have been way off and we would have likely paid a lot more.
