While vacationing in Grayland, my 4-year-old Blue Heeler mix, Maple, got sand in her eyes from rough play at the beach. I tried flushing her eyes with a water bottle and waited to see if she would improve, but she continued to squint and looked very uncomfortable. I called several vet clinics in the area--including ones an hour away--but no one could see her. Thankfully, one clinic recommended Olympia Pet Emergency, and when I called, Amber kindly said I could bring her in. Emmery, the nurse, helped triage Maple right away, and Dr. Tello was incredibly thorough in explaining what he found. Maple had a bad case of keratitis caused by the sand. Dr. Tello created a special serum from Maple's own blood to help her cornea heal faster and prescribed antibiotic eye drops to prevent infection. Since Maple is very high energy, he also gave her medication to help her stay calm while she heals. As of this morning, Maple is no longer squinting and looks much more comfortable. I'm so grateful for how quickly they saw her, the detailed care and explanations, and the reassurance that she'll be okay. This clinic went above and beyond, and I'm deeply appreciative of their help during our vacation emergency. read more

We unfortunately had to say goodbye to our sweet Brooklyn after almost 16yrs of loving on her. Hardest, darkest day of our lives. The staff was very sweet during the entire process allowing us as much time as we wanted with her. We got her ashes back last night and while it was extremely difficult to see our sweet Brooklyn like that, they did such a beautiful job with everything. The paw print mold, her hair sample, the imprints we'll be getting tattoos of was such a sweet thing to include. So much attention to detail. read more

My pup was seen after being attacked by an xl dog. Once admitted for overnight, they didn't let me know I needed to pickup at 5am till later in the process and care was already stated because no doctor was going to be on duty. They sent me on the way and said he didn't need surgery and to follow up with primary vet in 3-5 days. Well he should've had surgery that night to prevent and more issues; but this clinic doesn't do surgery. He needs hernia intestinal surgery and in so much pain. I don't recommend this place for a true emergency that could possibly need surgery. The vet tech and Dr. was nice and made sure he was stable but $1600 later.. for about 12 hrs of care. I could of went straight to Blue Pearl Emergency Vet in Olympia. read more

My daughters living in Ocean Shores. They drove 2 hours to this emergency due to incident on kitten, my daughter step on. They were worried kitten had a broken bone. So they took him to emergency. I live in tacoma and drove to Lacey to see my daughters at 8 pm. After an hour passed by no one said anything after they took kitten in. One of my daughter was sick and worried so much and stayed in a car. I went in ask nurse that "what is going on with my kitten? Is he okay? Or wht kind of treatment he has been received? Did he has pain meds for his pain?" A nurse said that " I dont know yet, I will ask Dr." 5 hours passed, nurse said same thing over and over. I ask to talk to Dr. And finally Dr. Came to talk to me that " We havent dont anything yet but I assesed him. Leave kitten overnight, we will test and check, so you can pick him up in the morning." Up front bill was $3800.00. I requested to see my kitten, he walks and okay. So I told them We will pick my kitten up now. After 5 hours, you didnt do anything with him. So we wrap him up and took him to my daughter who cries whole time. They want to take him back home with mother and siblings rather than here overnight. They bill me 213.00 for emergency fee and pain medication (23.00) that i ordered. My daughters drove 2 hours back home. It was waste time of 9 hours of pet emergency and money of $200.00. We were almost spent $3800.00 on little kitten who is completely okay after nothing done in pet emergency. I feel like refuse to pay emergency fee of 199.00. Can you refund me? Since you didn't do anything except put him in the corner while you were busy with critical pets there that night. I wish you do refund me money. Nurse in the counter was very mean too. OPE saved both our dogs. 2 years ago our youngest had a blockage in her stomach (she suddenly decided to eat hazelnuts in the shell that dropped into our yard from the neighbor's trees), and recently our older dog from a severe reaction to meds prescribed by a local specialty vet. Both times they were able to get our dogs in quickly and get them stabilized. Both times they were upfront about costs, and the final bills came in at/below the low end of their estimates. Both times every single staff member who assisted was compassionate and caring to our dogs and to us. And when our older dog required emergency care from an internal medicine specialist, instead of guessing at her care--and with complete honesty--they referred her elsewhere because they did not, at the time, have someone on staff with the expertise. When our youngest had to stay overnight, we were so thankful that they were open to us visiting her. We highly recommend OPE when your pet needs quality, compassionate, urgent care. read more

They charged us $1400 to send our sick dog home to suffer and die less than 24 hours later instead of compassionately recommending that we put him down. The treatment plan stated the vet had doubts about his future quality of life, however, when she spoke to my husband she was optimistic about his recovery and mentioned future appointments and follow ups. So I no longer have a doggie companion, but at least I can hug my care credit bill. My husband told them our credit limit and they made sure to use most of it. An honest, caring vet would have recommended euthanasia, instead this one recommended trying to give an unresponsive pet pain pills. I do not recommend taking your sick pet here. We had to bring our sweet kitty here last night after she sustained a critical head injury. She was brought in immediately and given medications for her pain. They stabilized her in order to determine a prognosis and potential treatment options. When it was determined that her quality of life would be greatly decreased with a long, hard, and painful recovery, we made the difficult decision to not allow her to suffer. We were able to sit with our beloved kitty in a warm, non-clinical room and hold her as we said goodbye. While no one was able to change the outcome, we were treated with kindness and compassion. The evening of September 7, 2021, I had the heartbreaking realization that my 15 year old beloved cat Famke was suffering, was not getting better after her recent trip to the vet, and there was nothing else we could do for her. Her usual vet was already closed for the day, so my husband and I made the difficult decision to bring her to Olympia Pet Emergency. We arrived about 8:30 PM and unfortunately had to wait about 2 hours to be seen, as the lot was full of people waiting to be checked in. However, once we were admitted, they gave her an IV right away so she could receive painkillers and not be suffering. Then I was able to embrace her in my arms in her basket as she was still awake. The vet was gentle and kind, explained everything she was doing and what to expect, and let us have time with her before we said our tearful final goodbyes, with Famke secured tightly in my arms. It was one of the most challenging days of my life to lose my precious little girl, but everyone who helped us treated me and my baby with compassion, care, and dignity. I received a thoughtful note of sympathy in the mail shortly after. And when I came back to pick up Famke's ashes, it meant so much to me that I was able to keep her paw & nose print, paw mold, lock of her fur, and the engraved wooden urn box. When I called and told them I need to bring my dog in because she is having respritory distress I was turned away. By the time I called over 5 clinics and finally found Summit that was taking patients I headed that way and unfortunately she died on the way. We had an emergency with one of our beloved cats. After a couple grand, they still could only still speculate that there were gastrointestinal issues, like a rupture but without invasive surgery they would not know. Having had multiple pets, I understand all the tests they took were necessary and what the costs would be. They were empathetic and kind when we had to make the hard decision based on the prognosis due to her age, heart murmur, another potential 5 k just to see what was going on and perhaps not a successful manoeuvre. They gave us a nice private room to be with her in the final moments and the package they sent us with her remains had very nice touches. Called ahead of time to see about a wait time. They said it was about half an hour and they weren't very busy. Came in, made a $200 deposit and proceeded to wait for 10 HOURS. I understand that priority cases happen. I understand staffing issues. What I don't understand is why did you tell me on the phone it was a half hour wait? Why did you tell me there was just one case in front of us? Why was there always one case in front of us for 10 HOURS? At no time we're they able to stabilize another pet and then handle us? I brought my cat in for a broken tail concern and we waited in the room for NINE hours until dawn, just for them to say "yeah it's broken". $800 bill. The absolute worst part is in that whole nine hours, they did not provide a litter box or water for my cat. This later caused him to have a urinary blockage (at only 2 years old!!) which can quickly become FATAL for male cats. My first time going to emergency vet so was I supposed to know we'd be there for an insane amount of time and bring my own litter box and water bowl??? I was scared he was in pain and rushed him there as I'm sure is the case for most patients. Truly negligent on this places part. The only saving grace of that visit was that the vet heard me when I expressed worry about the cost and waived a few of the standard procedures that she didn't think were necessary. I took my dog in for antibiotics and suture repair of a wound after she was bitten by my other dog. i knew that she would need antibiotics and it was a weekend. I had callled my vet the day before a Saturday and they could not see me and would not prescribe antibiotics.The vet that examined my dog said that the wound was infected and that's she felt pocketing in the wound . She said that the wound would need to cleaned out by irrigating it , cleaning up the tissue borders and then it needed to be sutured. She said that this had to happen under general anesthesia which I did not agree with. She made it clear that unless it happened this way she would not be attempting to do wound care. I have worked in ER's and humans, kids included are sutured all the time, everyday , wide awake. My own daughter had stitches to her face wide awake, but somehow it is inhumane to have that procedure performed on a dog . Which is the reason the vet gave when I asked why she had to go under anesthesia.I will tell you what is inhumane the bill, the estimate to have this done was 1,500-2,500 dollars or close to this my memory may be fuzzy. My dog was spayed which is a general surgery procedure and so much more complicated than cleaning and suturing a simple laceration for about 800.00. I asked why she had to get blood work, it was in the estimate and was told that they don't want to give anesthesia without it, I'll tell you why it's risky. So I refused to put my dog at risk and my financial health at risk for something I saw as unnecessary. I noticed while sitting in the room for quite awhile that on all the walks was the information on how to get the credit to pay for the bill. When I was in the lobby waiting a gentleman was being assisted by the front desk on how to sign up for the credit and the interest was 35% , yikes. My bill was still 338.00. The exam was 199.00 and somehow the vet was able to examine my dog's wound without even wiping it up or cleaning it in any way. They even put the dirty bandage that had drainage on it back over the top of her wound and they told me when they brought her back out to me that it should not be covered. They acted like they had examined her for free not that they had paid 199.00 to examine her which they had, you'd think they could have used a 50 cent gauze and wiped the wound clean. I also signed against medical advice paperwork , because I did not agree with the plan , it was not a good time. I just got the feeling that my dogs health was very much a secondary concern to their profit margin. So sad indeed, especially when we need them to do so much better for our fur babies. I'm not sure how else to protest the state of affairs in regards to veterinary medicine in our community than to write a review. read more

I know they love the animals. but my dog won't stop crying and can't bear any weight on his leg. I called for help and they told me to go somewhere else. When I called the other place, they said the same thing. My heart is breaking for my dog and we're just gonna try to call for an appointment with our regular vet in the morning. All I can do is hold him and hope I can comfort him until then. We probably won't get a vet appointment for at least a week. We have, unfortunately, had to come here twice now. Emergencies are never fun to begin with. The first time we came was because our little Cocker Spaniel had been attacked by another dog. They treated her quickly and well. She recovered fine. The second time was for our Shepherd, who was at the end of his life. He had been tested, biopsied, and given a diagnosis of cancer and weeks to live by his regular vet. One evening, I came home to find him bloated with cold extremities and drooling. He was clearly in unbearable pain, so we took him here to have him euthanized. This was a less straightforward appointment than our previous one. They thought he had bloat and wanted to do testing and emergency surgery. We told them he had cancer with weeks left to live, and we didn't want to put him through a painful surgery right at the end of his life. They insisted. We insisted. It wasn't a fun conversation to have when we were already in so much distress. I understand why they did it. Their instinct was to save the animal, and I guess that's the right instinct. Still it wasn't ideal. I haven't been here since COVID (thank heaven), so I can't speak to how they're doing with that. I will say the wait times were not great when we were there, but we've definitely had worse. The vets and staff were all kind to us and understanding when we broke down after it was done. read more

First time we came here, we had a great experience. Our 6.5 pound chihuahua was mauled by a big dog. She received great care. This was approximately 5 years ago. We returned 2 weeks ago, and while the wait was extremely long, the male vet was outstanding. He was straightforward and spoke to us respectfully and thoughtfully. We went back yesterday and had a totally different experience. I can relate to another poster who said their demeanor changed once I would not go for all the upselling. As it was we were 1500 into the visit. The vet texted me that our dog was doing well and should be ready for pickup. I asked her a question and she said "oh, wrong person" received a call maybe 30 minutes later to hear that our dog had a whole host of issues and what it would cost. As it is she has existing health issues and she's 14 years old. Not only was the cost too high, my husband and I felt it would be cruel to keep her on life support for a slim chance of recovery so we asked about euthanasia and she (the vet) became hostile. Out of guilt we returned to be with our dog for euthanasia because the vet said "she's aware, and she shouldn't have to die around a bunch of strangers". I have had many dogs over my lifetime and never had a vet talk to me like this. She wasn't just unprofessional, she was mean. Needless to say I will not recommend. read more

So my experience wasn't great. Waited forever because someone took me into the room without telling me to sign papers online.... Long story short they didn't know why my cat was sneezing, she physically looked fine. They were nice enough to give me antibiotics and even a refill when I spilled it. I did some of my own research and found sometimes just sneezing can be a sign of allergy from food. Which I had recently changed right before the sneezing (Not a question the vet asked so I didn't even think of it before). I waited a half a week after finishing my antibiotics (2 weeks) with no change in them, before I changed the food back to the old one. They were fine after that. So... couple hundred $$ later and google search I figured it out myself. Fantastic. read more

We had to bring our beloved Beans to the Emergency on Thanksgiving to be put to sleep. The staff were sympathetic, patient and caring. Their space for the end-of-life care is comfortable for both persons and pets. We've also had to come to the Emergency with our other dogs and the staff has always been helpful and worked with a sense of urgency. We had such a good experience despite the circumstances. Our senior dachshund was nearing the end of his life. I called and spoke with Sherry and she was so helpful talking me through and keeping me calm as my dog was weak, lethargic and having seizures. We brought him in and they provided the most compassionate care from the time we arrived until we laid him to rest. We've brought a couple of very sick animals here over the last couple of years only because we couldn't get our pets into our veterinarian. In a time of emergency, we'd appreciate some compassion but only received judgmental (not the regular staff who were very sweet and supportive) and know-it-all gaslighting attitudes from the veterinarians and medical director). I should have followed my gut and not returned with a second pet in distress. I know their job is stressful but these are our kids! Too busy to many emergency at capacity everytime I call for an emergency. I had a cat named CLEOPATRA that was too small and was in labor for 2 days but no babies ever came out. I called and called but never could get in for anybody in Thurston county to help her and so she died. Than a month later my other cat Tom someone shot him with a pellet gun or poked him or something and. He ended up getting a.n abscess from it and needs it seen by vet. But called and called everywhere I can but can't get him in anywhere to get him help. Everywhere at capacity of closed . Will keep trying every 4 hours to see if we can get him in anywhere, so will keep u updated on it. But right now totally discouraged and feeling hopeless and that my babies are just animals so they are expendable. But they r not CAT LIVES MATTER read more

On Easter my friends dog got hit by a truck. We called and the physician told us to come up immediately. When we arrived to the vet, the tech got us straight in. The physician was very open and honest. She explained everything to her as it was happening, what she was doing, etc. unfortunately my friends dog had to be euthanized. She was given as much time with him as she needed, and they came in and checked in on us frequently. I couldn't have asked for a better team to care for Drogo. I understand that COVID is taxing and businesses shouldn't be expected to be operating at peak efficiency, but Olympia Pet Emergency is a joke. They don't see customers in the order they arrive and refuse to give you any sort of eta. My dog only needed 20 minutes of their time and I had to watch multiple people roll up and get escorted in on the spot after I had been waiting for hours. The first time I came here I waited five hours total and got a vet that apparently didn't even look at the chart, because he missed her ear infection entirely and was going to send my dog home without care. The second time we waited for fours hours, called and asked about how much longer the wait would be--and were basically told to sod off. We decided to take our money and time elsewhere. Unless you have no other option please go anywhere else, the unprofessionalism on display here is ridiculous. Edit: I remembered that the first time we visited the staff came out to our car and offered cold water and some words to make the wait more palatable, so I added a star. It's possible that today (7/26/2020) was just a group of jokers, but personally I'm not willing to go through it again unless my pet is literally on death's door--that seems to be only way they'll see your pooch regardless. read more

I think I can finally write a review without breaking down in sobs. Here goes. Our seemingly healthy 11 1/2 year old cat Zoe, out of nowhere, last Thursday night at 9:45, appeared to have a stroke, she couldn't see or hear us and had labored breathing. We were very attached to our sweet girl and were immediately majorly concerned if not totally freaked out. We googled 24/7 vets in the area, and Olympia Pet Emergency was what came up. Our normal vet was obviously closed so we called Olympia Pet Emergency and asked a few questions and were told to bring her in. The receptionist/vet tech Tammie was incredibly helpful during the phone call. When we got there, Zoey, had gotten even worse. My son was sobbing as we knew the situation wasn't good. As soon as we came in, even though there were others in the waiting area, Tammie came over to us, looked at Zoey, and called for immediate triage. She treated us with respect, compassion, and tenderness in this difficult time. The other tech took Zoey back to the exam room to get her on oxygen and figure out what was going on. Tammie then immediately brought us to a private room as my son continued to cry and she wanted to give us privacy. Long story short, Zoey had some type of stroke/seizure/neurological issue which called for one of the most painful and difficult decisions of our life, to euthanize her (she had no brain function). Dr. Burggren was so kind, patient, competent, and knowledgeable during the entire process. He explained everything step by step, gave us facts, reassured us, answered questions, and listened ever so patiently. He had wonderful bedside manner and was absolutely caring and compassionate. He assured us we made the right decision after we made it. They were very appropriate during questions of what we wanted to do, costs, and billing. Their costs seems fair, upfront, and reasonable. True, it is an unexpected high cost, but vet care is expensive, and that is part of being an animal owner. We were in such shock that we initially thought we wanted Zoey cremated with a group of animals and ashes spread on Mt. Rainier. The following day we realized we wanted Zoeys cremains in our own backyard where we could have a little memorial for her. We called OPE and Tammie was sooo sweet and understanding. She told me it was probably not to late and to call Tacoma Crematorium where Zoey was being taken for cremation. I called them and they were able to cremate her by herself so we could have her ashes back. Our oldest daughter who is EXTREMELY attached to the cat was in Portland when the incident happened and was unable to say good bye. Tammie was so compassionate about this issue and even took a paw print of one of Zoey's paws for her. Tammie will probably never understand how important this paw print is to my daughter who has carried it around since she was given it. What an incredibly kind thing to do. My daughter and I brought a rose and card to the staff a few days afterwards to thank them for their above and beyond service. Tammie hugged my daughter and I and was genuinely sad and again so compassionate. I know the staff must deal with emergencies and animals/pet owners in distress on a frequent basis, based on the nature of their business, but they made us feel important and not just a number. They acted as if Zoey was their pet and they understood our grief and pain. They are 100 percent in the right business and obviously this is their calling. I can't imagine going through what we did and having staff being anything other than how they were to us. They made a horrible experience a little easier by their compassion and kindness. Tammie and Dr. Burggren, your kindness will never be forgotten. I would not hesitate to recommend OPE. I hope I don't ever have to use them again (the pain of losing one kitty was enough for a lifetime) but if I do, I know we will be in good hands. My cat had an obstruction, surgery, and UTI two weeks ago and is in the recovery stage. Tonight we noticed he wasn't feeling good and we noticed blood around our apartment. Nervous he was blocked again we called the previous hospital and others nearby and no one could take him even though they said he needed to be seen asap. This vet was the only one who could get him in and they did amazing. They constantly checked in with us, explained in detail what was happening and even told personal stories and helped recommend us to food and long term solutions for him. They told us how handsome he was and assured us he was getting snuggled in the back while waiting to get dispatched. I will go here every time even though it's further away. There's a lot of mixed reviews so here's MY honest opinion. I've been to this facility twice and the wait time is crazy. I wish there was more communication on behalf of the reception or clarity when it came to customer service. Unless your pet is in CRITICAL condition or you aren't coming in during "peak" hours (which seems to be during the daytime) expect to be waiting all day. I came in at 10:30 AM once and waiting until 5 PM. The time before that I came in at 5 PM and wasn't seen until 8 PM. It's a roll of the dice going into this place. Set aside a full day or have someone who is free go in. read more

My horrible vet who refused to see my dog (who woke up from a nap and couldn't walk) for months as they were "booked" told me to call them. The horrible vet gave me their number. I called them and they were also "booked" and couldn't see me in a timely manner. They are supposed to be a 24/7 emergency room for pets. Not so much. Who do you rely on when businesses don't do as advertised? Not the only worst business in the area. Another supposed 24/7 vet in Olympia wouldn't see Charlie either. So where do you get emergency care in Olympia metro area? I'm smelling a lawsuit here for breach of contract for refusing to see my dog. the fact that not one person from OPE has responded in any way to any of the reviews or complaints I have made really says a lot. I have begin taking legal action against OPE. And I am looking for others who have had similar experiences with Olympia Pet Emergency... please reach out on Messenger I took my 14 week old kitten yesterday morning because he was vomiting and his tummy was painful to the touch. I got this kitten as my mental health support companion, i was suicidal and this kitten literally saved my life.When I got there, they triaged him and immediately took him in the back. Waited for about an hour in my car and they called and asked if we could come inside to talk to the doctor. They put us In a room and we waited about 30 minutes. The vet said it looked like a foreign body obstruction and they would need to do some exploratory procedures, starting with xrays. I then asked about an estimate of costs because I was filling out an application for some financial assistance and immediately was treated different. The vet said a tech would be in to go o wrong plan and costs. The tech came in and the first thing he said was, "I understand money might be an issue". At which point I explained the situation and that Concern for animals would be sending a voucher over and that we had about $150 on us and that I needed a an estimate printed out so that I could continue applying for financial assistance. Still I was not given an estimate. Only asked if there was family or friend that we could get mobey from. We said no, and we were left to wait for another hour or so until the tech came and asked is we had any luck coming up with money. I asked for an estimate of costs again and told that they couldn't give me one without knowing what was wrong with the kitty. Wait another hour and the vet came back and told us that our kitten is very sick and in a lot of pain and that he probably swallowed string and it cut through his intestines and said we should consider euthanasia. I asked if I came up with money if he could be saved and the vet she just wasnt sure. They were so worried about money that they didnt even give us a chance to come up with the money needed. They would not even give us an estimate of the cost of the diagnostics to find out what was wrong. They did not even try to find out what was actualky wrong and if he was able to be saved. I asked them to bring him to me and when they did i could see how much pain he was in and we ended up putting our kitten to sleep because he was in pain. As soon as they found out we were struggling financially, they gave up. They just kept asking us how much money we had rather than give us an estimate so that we could try to come up with it. For all we know, it could have been something easily fixed and i would still have my kitten. But they did not even give us that chance. It was unreal how their only concerm was money. I am diagusted and heartbroken. I have already reacjed out to an attorney regarding my experience at OPE and will absolutely be taking legal action. They should all be ashamed read more

I am only giving this business a one star rating because the doors were open during business hours they advertise. The unprofessional employees of Olympia Pet Emergency killed my Chiweenie Service Dog by refusing to provide her medical services Saturday and Sunday August 3rd and 4th, 2019. If you want your dog to live have $1400 cash up front and be prepared to fill out paperwork while your dog is dying. These employees were rude, sarcastic, judgmental and assuming idiots who couldn't think their way out of a paper bag. Never take your dog or pet to this place. I'm filing a complaint with the BBB and Department of Health for WA State. read more

Arrived at 4:00 pm-am still waiting at 11:30 pm, and had to book hotel room, as i live over an hour away. All this-and $550-for what will amount to a change in dosage for an already diagnosed heart condition . There is something terribly wrong with a business whose work is purportedly to help, but whose treatment of customers-despite the superficial cordiality-borders on abuse. My advice is to avoid this if at all possible. read more
