Took my cat here to be spayed. They pushed their insurance on us. Also pushed microchips and extra shots. I got a call that somehow my indoor cat who's never been outside or around a intact male, was pregnant and did I want to proceed with the spay for an extra cost. I know for a fact she was not pregnant. It sure seems like since I wouldn't let them nickel and dime me into all their extra sh¡t they found a made up "she's pregnant " way to make me pay the extra 250 they wanted in shots and chipping. I had my small dog's teeth cleaned last year at Banfield Lacey as they were a "good" price - cheaper than others. I guess you get what you pay for. She needs teeth cleaning again this year, according to our regular vet. In my lay opinion, she should NOT need cleaning AGAIN this year. In fact she went from moderate tartar last year, to now heavy tartar. I called and asked for a refund for the cleaning but was denied. Also sent an email. The response was that she could grow this much tartar in ONE year. Even though the original price was low, there were add-ons including an extraction that brought the bill to over $1400. This was terrible service and a terrible response. But judging by the number of poor reviews here, I guess Banfield in general does not care. I would still like and think we deserve a refund for the cleaning. read more

I love the wellness program, and we had a great vet there. Unfortunately, we left permanently when a different vet was way to pushy about selling us stuff we didn't need. I wish we would have stayed with vet we liked because we stopped doing wellness program and 2 years later my cat was diagnosed with stage 3 kidney disease. We took our pup in for a nail trim. He was a bit nervous, as most pups, he doesnt like vet visits. He peed a little in the lobby before we went in, which I pointed out to the staff. They told me not to worry about it, cool. I figured they'd clean it up. My dog goes back with the techs, they trim his nails and he returns. The tech mentioned they clipped one a bit too short, which caused some bleeding. No worries, it happens as he doesnt willingly let you touch his paws. We settle up and part ways - though I noticed the urine is still on the ground as we're leaving. I point it out to another staff member, who couldnt seem to care less. We leave and my wife realized that she left her phone. We go back, an hour had passed, we get her phone and notice - the urine is still there. They weren't busy, they had time to clean it though they had chosen not to. We notice the staff members who helped us previously were clocking out and leaving, no care in the world about keeping things sanitary. When we get home and his adrenaline had worn off, he had a severe limp which ended up lasting for a week following the appt. We called the office and spoke to the office manager regarding his limp and dosage of medication, whom passed the information to the doctor. When the doctor called us back, she truly couldnt have had less compassion or care that he was injured, or our concern regarding the doseage of drugs they perscribed (which was double how its generally issued per the bottle). Even after following Banfield's directions to at T, the medication given to calm him didnt take any effect until hours after his appointment. He was high as a kite to the point we were concerned about his breathing.. All she could say, was nothing out of the ordinary happened during his visit. No care, no compasion, no followup. They hire people at minimum wage who truly don't care for your animals. Between the lack of care for cleanliness, lack of compassion for hurting my dog, and complete disregard of how to perscribe medication, we will never be back and strongly suggest anyone considering their services to go to a locally owned vet instead. Again, they hire people at minimum wage who have no passion and truly no business caring for your pets. 0/10 do not recommend. It takes a lot for me to leave a review, ESPECIALLY a negative one - but this is my dog, a member of my family who was terribly mistreated. read more

Had I known what was going to happen to my dog while here I wouldn't have dropped him off. My dog went in for a standard teeth cleaning. They needed him early in the day for the inpatient procedure but didn't give me a pick up time. I let them know I'd be 2 hours away and to give me plenty of time heads up so I can pick him up as soon as he was ready. Long story short, I was confronted about my dogs club foot, which is hereditary. They told me they only noticed it after they were cleaning off all the dog waste off his feet and belly. Turns out they left him in the crate all day, put him under, cleaned his teeth, put him back in the crate, then didn't call me until 15 minutes prior to closing (fortunately I decided to head back regardless of not getting a phone call) They left my dog in a crate for 10 hours and never let him out to relieve himself. They claimed it was because they didn't have a designate area and it was for his safety. I chalk it up to laziness, cruelty, and a lack of doctor/patient communication. I'll never trust a banfield vet again, ever. They brushed this off. Beware of what these people do to animals when you're not looking. read more

Banfield, and their OWP Wellness Plan, is a scam and a terrible provider of service to pets. Make no mistake, they are solely in the business of guilting their customers into spending obscene amounts of money on unnecessary treatments, even at the cost of your pet's health and wellbeing. They are careful to remind you that their OWP plan is NOT pet insurance. You're paying in advance for the egregious and clinically unnecessary treatments they will inflict on your pet without your knowledge, which they will then charge you for before consulting with you. Here are a few examples from our last visit. My dog had an ear infection. They provided him with an ear cleaning kit that is readily available on Amazon for around $25. They charged me $155 after my wellness plan. My dog had also just received flea and tick treatment. They administered a pill, which also provides heartworm prevention, and charged me $160 to be renewed every 6 months. My dog gained around 7 pounds over the winter months. He's a 3 year old German Shepard, and is around 70 lbs. A little chunky, but not unhealthy. The vet told me that I had allowed my dog to become "Grossly Obese", and that she would recommend I consult with her on an appropriate feeding regimen, which comes in the form of classes I would need to enroll in for an additional undisclosed cost. Finally, she informed me that my dog had become "Worked Up" while interacting with her. Not aggressive, but he had the unbearable temerity to not hold perfectly still during what I imagine was her 4.5 minute long examination. She told me that Sammy needed professional training, as he cannot be allowed to behave in such a dog-like manner when left alone in a clinic full of other animals. This place is just awful. Am I laying into them for personal reasons? Absolutely. Am I being subjective based on my experience? You bet. But that doesn't change the fact that Banfield is a horrific place, full of horrific people who will only care for your pets in the amount you are able to or willing to be extorted for payment. AVOID AT ALL COSTS - WARNING! My cat Sam was seen 2 months prior to me calling them. Originally I was told I needed to pay them $2k for surgery. After deciding I couldn't afford that and would have to put him down they came up with the bright idea to give him antibiotics. He needed the antibiotic for a urinary tract infection. He couldn't pee and he was near death due to his bladder exploding. Problem solved for less than $150. 2 months later it's back. The day I called Sam was experiencing the same symptoms again. Unable to pee he was spending hours just crouching in his litter box. I called and explained what was happening and requested the same medication as was prescribed 2 months prior. I was told no, that I had to bring Sam back in for another appointment. That was not the issue as I would have been happy to bring Sam in that day. I was told the only available time for me to bring him in was 5 days latter... I responded with "You realize that Sam will be dead in 5 days without these meds..." They did not care, they did not try to help, they did not offer any solution other than they would add me to a cancelation list which never happened. Sam just needed his prescription replaced, if they needed to see him they could have carved out 10 minutes during the day to see him and save his life. F*** Banfield, I will never take any animal to them and I will share this story with anyone who will listen. Horrible place, absolutely horrible. read more

I adopted a puppy a few weeks ago and apparently that's been a trend of the pandemic. I called 15 vet offices in the Olympia/Tumwater areas and a vast majority were no longer accepting clients and the few that were had openings 3 weeks to a month out. Fortunately with Banfield I was able to schedule an appointment online within two weeks. I had used Bandfield in another state a decade ago and was pleased with the pet care plans so I did the same with my new puppy. I like having the monthly charge and my puppy will receive all of the services I would have been paying for anyhow. I think the price is comparable since the spay fee alone I was quoted anywhere from $375-1,000. The day of our visit Max was the tech and Dr. Brazill was the vet. Both treated my puppy well and communicated well and made sure I had an understanding. The only reason I removed a star was because I had completed most info online yet I had to provide details again at check in. Additionally, I requested to have my bill emailed to me, but they sent a link to view your account which you can't register unless you get a printed receipt apparently. Other than that, we had a favorable experience and were happy with the service and online scheduling options. read more

I brought my cat in for his first checkup and to have his nails trimmed. We had to stay in the waiting room while the cat went in the back . I never met the doctor. However they said his nails were trimmed and I was charged for the service. When we got home the cat scratched the couch and damaged the leather. Obviously his nails were not trimmed enough. I was disappointed but didn't tell them because due to the virus, I didn't want to go back. I will have to really think about going back. Usually when his nails are cut, he can't scratch and destroy anything. I couldn't go to my previous nail trimmer because they were closed due to the virus. I am disappointed. read more

We just moved to Washington state and I brought my dog in to Banfield cause she wasn't feeling well. So the doctor and I talked and she said let's do some blood wk and see what's going on. I was happy with that, when she came back in and I saw her face I heart dropped. She said my baby girl has chronic renal failure and I lost it. This banfield was so wonderful and compassionate. The doctor and her team did everything to help her & us. I highly recommend banfield and I will continue to go there. Unfortunately my baby never made it she got worse. DONT APPLY FOR ANY PROGRAM. SCAMMERS. I came here fall of 2018 for my sweet cat Umbra. I signed up for the 12 month plan. I rehomed my furbaby three months ago, but just realized about this Banfield thing and how I havn't paid anything to them since I got a small flea treatment for Umbra and how they weren't getting ahold of me for months of missed payments. Whoever signed me up for the 12 month plan is a FAILURE at their job. A DISGRACE. They inputted my number incorrectly, apparently my cat's name is 'Umbra Vest', never had my email on file, and never had my full name attatched to my cat's. I take full responsibility for not updating Banfield when I moved addresses and when I changed my visa card number. HOWEVER. They couldn't input the correct information and therefore, I never got the notice to my phone, which would've been the only one, but some FAILURE of an associate typed in the absolute wrong number. So now my account was sent to collections and I got a lovely payment of $560 to pay! Hooray! In conclusion, some of this is my fault, some of this is theirs. I do NOT recommend Banfield for ANYTHING, whether it be treatment, care, service or their scam plans where the associates plug in incorrect information putting you at risk of forgetting/failing to pay and cancel the membership. Banfield is the hospital for pets. They do have insurance for your pets, which is moderately priced. I recommend it as it also includes your annual shots, as well as annual exams. The vets are particularly friendly here, and all the assistants are as well. They also sell prescription food, in the event your pet needs it. Our cat has to take some special food because she's pretty old now, and needs delicate food. I've never had an incident with them that I recall, and haven't talked to anyone else having any problems either. I think the staff here do a great job. You can tell that they really love animals. read more

Then they can't figure out why tinker bell had so many fevers she is a 6 month old kitten they finally felt a Mass in her abdomen and my choices are X-rays or put her down I made the division to let her go cause she is in so much pain and could not afford the X-rays or surgery putting her down cost as much as the X-rays so instead in have watched her have multiple seizures they have no heart here. And on top of all this they still expect you to pay their monthly payments even on a dead pet do not I repeat do not take your animals here. I really enjoy coming here; my furbaby has been seen here for 10 years and I haven't had one bad experience yet. I usually come in for the usual updated shots and emergencies. My dog got severely hurt couple days ago and called Banfield as I was concerned with his postcare. It really blew my mind when Ms. Leslie one of the staff members put me at ease, were able to retrieve the records from the emergency hospital, reviewed his case, and called me back and gave me recommendations to try; greatest feeling when my pup responded to it. Extremely disappointed with the service I received today. We took our 6 month old puppy into the vet because we have the Wellness Plan and she goes every month. We had to cancel for the month of December because we were extremely busy with the holiday season. Today was the earliest we could take her in. Not only did the employees fail to inform us that having her go in within a certain time frame was very crucial to her boosters but now she has to completely start over her treatments. I'm almost positive they have our phone number and could have easily informed us. So now we have to pay an additional $20 on top of the $60 we pay monthly. In addition to that the vet always makes us feel like terrible dog owners and subtly judging us. Once the Wellness Plan is over we will not be returning. read more

I have had my rescue dog (lab/pointer mix) for going on five years and signed her up for Banfield vet services and insurance right away after having a great experience with my last rescue dog (a deaf dalmatian). My experience this time started off all right but has gotten progressively worse until I made the decision this week to change vets. There is always a doubt in choosing a chain store vet clinic when determining quality of care and consistent practice. I've watched vets/techs come and go more rapidly than I have in a local vet. But, we don't need a lot. My girl is pretty healthy. She has a sweet disposition and doesn't require a lot of care. Here is why I'm leaving Banfield and giving them such a bad review... Last week my now six year old dog tripped on our front porch steps coming home from a walk with my boy. She fell twice and was visibly injured and not putting weight on her back right leg. I wasn't told about this until I came home from work. I called Banfield right away. I informed the vet assistant who answered the phone that my dog was injured and not putting weight on her back leg. She quickly informed me that they were "double booked" and couldn't see her to the morning. I asked if she would be all right until the morning and was told that I knew my dog best. My dog has never been injured and I know very little about dog anatomy. The vet assistant told me I could take her to an emergency vet hospital if I felt it was an emergency. I asked her how I determine if my dog's injury is an emergency. She again repeated that I know my dog best. I asked her if she was a vet. She told me this was the Banfield Pet Hospital. I clarified that I wanted to know if SHE was a vet. She said she wasn't. I told her that our dog was a patient of Banfield. That we had the insurance from there and this is where my dog was seen. I asked to speak to a vet to determine if my dog needed to be seen at an emergency hospital and was told that that was not an option. The vet assistant did all this without asking who we were, what my pet's name was or asking any triage questions. I realized throughout that night (after taking my dog to a local emergency vet) that there are much better options for my dog out here and that I never wanted to be faced with this type of lack of support, knowledge or consideration in the care of my pet again. The response I received was completely inappropriate and will permanently end my relationship with this vet. read more

We took our small male dog in to be neutered covered by the wellness plan we paid for on a monthly basis. After we brought him home post surgery everything seemed fine initailly until his penis came out and failed to retract. They had us bring him back in immediately and manually placed it back in its sheath. They instructed us to bring him back if it remained out again for more than four hours. The following day it came out again and did not retract. They manually reinserted it again but said they had no idea why it was happening. The tech that brought him out told us that some dogs just have a lot of erections. This demonstrated to me that they were failing to recognize what had actually happened. Never did we have any issues until immediately after the surgery. They did absolutely nothing to help determine what happened except ask their senior vet who commented that she'd never heard of that happening before. All questions stopped at that point. Six months later we still have to manually reinsert his penis every one to two days. We trusted them to perform a common surgery safely, but instead have a dog who no longer has control of his penis as a result of his surgery. I'm very disappointed at not only the result of the surgery but their lack of pursuit to narrow down the cause and provide an appropriate remedy if possible. read more

I had good experiences with this company. I even transferred my account to NY when I moved there for 9 months, and then transferred it back here in Lacey. The doctors are nice.. the assistants are nice. Check into the Wellness Plan ( I have that) and it cover all checkups and shots and regular tests that are needed each year... and I think I pay like $30 per month... instead of getting banged over the head with charges each time I go. Also, it includes a percent (15% or 20%) off of emergency charges if you needed to bring your pet in for emergency services. Also includes 2 deep dental cleaning/ yr that usually costs $400 each time. I think this is a great place, decently priced and they are really nice and are technologically up to date! read more

I don't know where to begin really. I've had problems with Banfield for the past two years, but it escalated last month and I finally took my 13-year-old diabetic Golden Retriever to Scatter Creek Animal Clinic (under the recommendation of friends) for a second opinion (seriously - saved my girl!) Among the previous problems: being passed around to multiple vets who would constantly push for vaccinations (my late German Shepherd had an unknown auto-immune disease and only after I told them would they find in the notes that they both were not to vaccinated until they figured out the exact problem - which they never did), poor recording of their visits and health decisions (my Golden Retriever's insulin dosages were never changed from the original dosage), and being pushed for a wellness plan only to get some tests done only to discover that it didn't cover half of the tests (grrr.) Last month I took my girl in after she began to show pee problems (urinating in her sleep and pee puddles the size of puddles.) As she is a diabetic, she is prone to UTIs - which they let me get prescriptions for when I noticed the symptoms, so I didn't have to get her tested ALL the time. They refused to give me her antibiotics this time and made me some see another (new) vet. After a urinalysis and blood sugar, they told me everything was fine but her blood sugar was high and to up her insulin dosage. So I did. Her problems only got worse - her blood sugar skyrocketed, she began losing complete control of her bladder. On top of it, I got a late bill for my German Shepherd, who passed away three months before and was supposedly marked as deceased and told I would not be billed for his plan anymore. I snapped and called Scatter Creek Animal Clinic after asking all my dog owner friends where to take her for a second opinion. IN LESS THAN 24 HOURS Dr. Jill Suess and Scatter Creek found she had a severe bladder infection so bad that the insulin was binding to the bacteria and not getting into her bloodstream. They believe she had it for a couple months and immediately put her on a serious dosage of antibiotics. We also began to a long term herbal plan to help prevent UTIs and bladder problems for the future. On top, the cost was significantly less than Banfield (and no wellness plan - hallelujah!) And when I asked about vaccines, Jill told me that at my girl's age and with her health concerns, vaccines are pointless. I wouldn't recommend Banfield to anyone. read more

"Terrible Care" I took my service dog into the Banfield for what looked like a broken leg. They suggested upping my Wellness Plan to cover the needed x-rays. I agreed and the x-rays were performed. After a review of the x-rays she told me my dog had broken all the bones at the foot joint. Vet showed me the x-rays and kept suggesting that the x-rays be sent off for a second reading costing $189.99. She told me I needed to see an Orthopedic Surgeon costing $150.00. None of this covered on the Wellness Plan. Vet Splinted the leg and sent us home. I was seen at the surgeon's office. They repeated the x-rays due to Banfields x-rays being blurry. Their finding was that my dog had two prier breaks, one was a broken toe and a fracture of in the foot and the new break was the bones in the foot joint. They suggested removing the leg. Also, they saw bladder stones on the x-ray which needed an additional surgery. They told me Banfield had wrapped the leg with the broken toe sticking out and that was the reason why my dog was in so much pain leaving their facility. Since January, I had my dog into Banfield numerous times complaining that he might be in pain for the same leg because he was attacked by another dog and he was showing signs of a bladder infection. At no time did they ever say he may have a broken bone or possible bladder stones or needed an x-ray. My surgery bill was over $3700.00 and they should be responsible for the whole amount plus the whole amount of cancelling this Wellness Plan due to the fact I will never take my dog back to their facility again. They failed him. He is the only one who suffered here. You pay for insurance for your pet and you trust their expertise that your pet is in the best care but in this case he slipped through the cracks of the system. I just want them to own up to the fact that they failed and should pay. In my opinion do not pay for the Wellness Plan or take your pet there. Go someplace else! read more

I have mixed feelings about this place. Dr. Brazill is very good, but Dr. Miller is horrible! The staff strongly urge me to drop my cats and pick them up later. My cats are scared of being at the vet, so only want them to be there for a short timeframe. There's often resistance when I want to schedule all three cats at the same time. The rates seem to be inflated, perhaps to trick people into signing up for the wellness plans. It's difficult to get a quick appointment for an extremely sick cat. They couldn't get me in until the end of the day and sent me to the extremely expensive emergency vet because they don't keep pets overnight. So much for the so called discounts of the wellness plan. My sick cat needed more care after leaving the emergency pet hospital. I mentioned the potential of putting him down due to the expenses and uncertainty of the feeding tube working. Dr. Miller said her office couldn't do the feeding tube procedure and I needed to see a specialist Vet in Tacoma to do it. She gave me a serious guilt trip for thinking about putting my cat down. Dr. Miller talked down to me and insinuated that I was an irresponsible cat owner. I called Healthy Pets who was happy to quickly get my cat in for the feeding tube surgery for less than what Banfield would charge for a comprehensive exam with shots. As a result, I'm not going to renew my wellness plans when they expire. So I scheduled my other two cats to come in for their dental cleanings. Was happy that Dr. Brazill did bloodwork to ensure they were healthy enough for the dental cleaning, since my other cat is sick. I asked to speak with the vet when picking them up about an issue. The staff wouldn't let me talk to her directly. I wish I had stopped going there before my sick cat's illness. It would've saved lots of money. Luckily Healthy Pets saved my cat's life. read more

The worst Banfield hospital Ive taken my dog to since 2012. They are disorganized, and screw up lab orders. They also do not seem bothered with the inconvenience of having to make unnecessary, multiple trips to them, nor with your pet being in discomfort for long periods (weeks) because the labs they charged you were never sent out. No apologies or concern that your pet suffers or the inconvenience to the owners. Hence, we are closing all the accounts associated with our 5 dogs, and have begun using Tumwater Veterinarian Hospital because both the decorum and care is superior. read more

Today our dog was having a lot of pain and even though I was worried and pushy, they were polite and fortunately called to let me bring her in on a cancellation. I took my pit in here to establish care after reading pretty decent reviews, wish I never would have. I rescued my bully fromLA and had all previous vet records and X-rays which I brought with me. Dr. Miller at the Lacey office is who we got, she declined to even review the previous records or films. I asked about an infection possibility and she said maybe he had something but she couldn't remember the name of it. My boy was also on an anti-inflammatory for arthritis, which she changed. Dr miller kept pushing a wellness plan, even after I declined, and ignored all my concerns. She gave us tramadol and some yeast wipes. We tried the Tramadol for a week with no help I called and asked for the original medication and I was told they would need to run tests to make sure it's okay....HELLO, read the last records and you would see it was!!! I am so frustrated with this place, it's really too bad because they do have one really good vet there dr Brazill , but my baby couldn't wait another 6 days for his meds to feel better....if you are going to go there stay away from Dr miller, she isn't a vet, she's a glorified sales person, a shitty one at that!! read more

My dog has an abscess on his paw and I was calling around the other vets in the area when I came across Banfield. I explained the abscess to the technician over the phone and one of the first things he said was that I might need to have his paw AMPUTATED?! Mind you, I had already told him that it was only a 2 day old abscess. They also told me that I could not stay with my dog or even sit in the waiting area while he would be treated and that I could drop him off and come pick him up later because they had no rooms available. Where is their waiting area? Had I gone through Banfield, I might have come back to pick up my dog from an evaluation and I would have found him with A LEG MISSING! DO NOT GO HERE, YOU'LL NEVER KNOW WHAT THEY'LL DO TO YOUR PET! read more

When typing this review I was undecided how to rate Banfield. I like the comprehensive exam, shots and office calls. A few years ago I was advised to upgrade my plan to include dental. I did do that and it was upgraded immediately so that made the monthly cost increase. At his last exam a heart murmur was heard so they wanted to do a test to make sure he could handle the anesthesia. I had this test done and he was found to have heart disease. Since he would no longer need the dental I called to have my plan downgraded. I was informed that I would have to keep paying for the higher plan until the renewal period which is seven months away in December. So it seems that they are really interested in getting more money. read more

DO NOT TRUST YOUR ANIMAL TO THIS PRACTICE. While there are some caring doctors and techs there, their business procedure is to charge a lot of fees that are "not covered" under their Wellness Plans and then to have you keep coming back week after week for another check-up. The technical knowledge and up-to-date education seem to be missing. Dr. Miller saw my cat for several weeks during which she misdiagnosed her condition and the severity of the situation WHICH COST MY PET HER LIFE. By the time I took my cat to another vet for a second opinion (at the urging of another vet there who recognized the severity of the situation ), it was too late for us. My cat suffered and her body deteriorated for weeks under Dr. Millers "care." I am now without my precious cat and am left to deal with the guilt of having believed Dr. Miller for too long. Since our tragedy there, I have heard several similar stories from others in this community. I DO NOT recommend this Banfield practice for anything more severe than vaccinations or a nail clipping. read more
