Yay! I walked in around lunch time and the place was working on filling lunch sandwich orders. There was a distinct smell the sub sandwich topping oil/vinegar/oregano. It was familiar and inviting. I was in search of a sweet treat, though. A majority of the glass cases were empty post morning coffee crowd. I ordered a couple of butter cookies to go. When I was paying for them, the clerk asked me if I needed anything else. I said, I would love a lobster tail if you have any in the back. She said- we do! What a win for me. A wonderful sweet treat and I am so glad I stopped. (Note to the reader- while I ordered the items to go, the fluffy, cream filled lobster tail was quickly devoured in the car before driving away from the curb). read more

I work in Lowell and this bakery was suggested by some Lowellians. I ordered some spanakopita which was delicious - they say one piece is a serving but they are huge and could definitely feed two people if you had with a salad. Also bought some cookies by the pound, baklava and was shocked to see one of my favorites- baklava cheesecake! All were good! I don't see all the rave reviews about this place. I mean I had to try it because of the reviews but was disappointed because the cream puff was not fresh with a harder not soft disappointed outer shell and the so called vanilla inside was this artificial soft white cream that is not what a cream puff should taste like. It should have been a simple cold whipped cream mix with a nice soft cold shell around it. The Oreo cake was poor too. Just a lot of syrup and same artificial white cream inside the chocolate layers. Didn't taste like Oreo at all with no actually Oreo pieces inside the cake. Didn't even finish either bakery goods. Dissappointed and glad I just wasted 5$ because it could have been way more. If I had to give another chance, I would go for a lunch option but I'm not sure that would be better. read more

Okay, so I see why this place gets 5 stars if you're going for sandwiches and fresh bread... this place is delicious! The inside is super small, and we are a large family so I think we overwhelmed them a bit. We bought some desserts for our dessert tour and were pleasantly surprised to see they make "beach" pizza as we call it so we ordered some pizza too. The pizza was frozen pizza and tastes exactly like "school" pizza so if that's your thing. This is the best place for it! Daughter loved it. Our pastries weren't really fresh but the kids did enjoy them. Our cream puff was delicious. We will definitely come back and try the sandwiches. So today was Greek Easter, and I decided I was going to just buy some stuff instead of spending hours baking. Great idea and Olympos was wonderful. The lady behind the counter was super friendly and patient as my mom and i struggled to not buy EVERYTHING. It all looked so good. Well today I actually got to eat it and OMG, so similar to what my mom bakes. I will soooo be back. The lobster tails looked fabulous. A friend's co-worker highly recommended Olympos so we were in the area and decided to stop in. We were in search of some "traditional" greek desserts ...specifically the galaktoboureko (the greek custard pie) and can never remember how to pronounce it. As we walked in, we were immediately greeted by a very nice young lady. We informed her it was our first time so she could continue with what she was working on as it may take us a few minutes to look through the many choices. There were two big cases of baked goods and additional exposed and packaged items on top of the cases. They also prepare calzones, spinach pies, etc. We did ask if they had the galaktoboureko and she said they do make it but only for special occasions ... like Christmas, but it wasn't something they have on a daily basis. Of course, we sighed. :-( They did have a tray of baklava but my friend decided on an apple turnover (so she could take it home and heat it), I decided to get three smaller pastries to "munch" on in the car: finikia (honey dipped spice cookie), a raspberry rugalach and an apple rugalach. We didn't care much for the finikia as it was very mealy tasting, the rugalach's were good and probably much better warm. My friend had her apple turnover the next morning for breakfast and reported the crust was flaky, apples plentiful but the turnover fell apart when she put it in the toaster over. Service was very friendly and helpful, overall first experience based on our selections of baked goods is a 3 out of 5. read more

Yes you need to come here & try not to buy everything as I have almost done on a few occasions. I mean everything is simply so damn tasty looking that it's hard to decide what to get. I suggest getting one of everything. Ok, I know that's not really feasible, but there is everything from tiramisu to baklava to choose from. Cookies or cake or pie? Decisions, decisions. They also have spanikopita which is my favorite lunch item to get, & it's pretty big size too. They have a variety of different sandwiches & other lunch items you can get. It's small so there aren't tables where you can sit & eat but there is a counter. They are only open til 4 so make sure you go early. So worth it. read more

We're do I begin??? So I'm on Yelp looking for a brownie -no not that kind, well...... I come across this bakery and it looks good. It's close by and I can get back to work pretty quickly. Think I the Wellie Wonka chocolate factory would smell like (Augustus, save some room for later lmfao) I see a lady making a salad in the kitchen. This lady was not messing around one bit. She was focused on making sure she put all her passion into making this salad. She cutting lettuce and vegetables and was piling it so high. I thought to my self she must me making this for her self cuz there was just too much love in this salad to give to a customer-I was total wrong she made it for a customer. I had the eclair it was great perfect ratio of pastry, cream and chocolate topping. It was kinda small maybe a 2 bit or a 2 1/2 bit eclair. I ate two of them. I get a warm pastrami sandwich on a perfectly backed warm freshly made sesame seed roll, 2 different types of chess it was really mouth watering!!! The lady who made my sandwich whom I found out was the owner really has put her heart and soul into this place. I think her bakery is her sanctuary, really she seemed to really enjoy making my sandwich. I also noticed and tasted that they use real yes real Rolls Royce spicy mustard. Gray Poupon not that cheap shit you get a market basket. We all know this mustard is no cheap but they gladly gave me extra on the side with out charging me. We go here often b/c it's close to our building and it's a landmark Lowell bakery. You will get about 1 pound of meat in either the sand. or the 'zone, so think about splitting it with a friend. They excel at provided homemade style baked goods, of course. The finikia, kourambiethes and baklava are all tasty. Many items are under $1, so you can get a nice "sampler platter" to go on a chilly afternoon, take it home in a little white box, and gorge yourself on sweets until the sun comes out again. As usual, if there were any competitors, we probably wouldn't come in here at all, but that's the beauty of Lowell: it forces you to try places you normally never would've set foot in in another city. Adventure awaits around every corner! Not much seating, since they just have the counter facing the street (avec views of swirling garbage and George the Tailor's customers coming and going). However, we've never NOT gotten a seat, just wait a few minutes and usually someone's leaving. Don't go in when school's letting out - it's crammed with kids getting afternoon treats and such. The breads are superb, service is average. They definitely don't go out of their way to impress you, but they aren't overly rude, either. Make sure you remember what you ordered, because they forget several things every time we go in. They're pretty good about bringing it to you once you remind them though. They have an "espresso" machine, but usually you can only get regular coffee. Tea is also available. Open early until about 8 pm, usually. $10 minimum on credit/debit, which is surprisingly hard to achieve. When we go in, we'll order 2 sandwiches, some dessert items, coffees, and it will be like $9.85 or something. We usually just add a few more pastries. ;) The weirdest thing is that all their food seemed to be fried insome kind of weird oil, so everything you eat has this odd fried flavor, whether it's a dessert item or a sandwich. Really kind of makes me feel sick later, to be honest. Plus, there are mainly 3 cashier girls who run the counter. One is very nice, one is rather absent-minded, and you have to constantly remind here what you had, and the other is just plain mean. Hope for a really short girl behind the counter when you go in, otherwise leave and come back later. read more

Having meetings in Lowell brought me to this greek bakery that seemed to be very busy. The goal was to buy a sandwich, but I found a version of Kourambiethes that I love. Kourambiethes is a greek wedding cookie that is also served during christmas time. My parents friends are greek and we get a tin of Kourambiethes each year during the holidays. These are precious morsels of white powered sugar. And Olympos makes them really good. The sandwiches are also huge. I ordered a roast beef sandwich on a knotted roll. This sandwich can feed two easily. It was well made and the bread is fresh. I have very good things to say about this Lowell bakery and I will be back. read more

Good price and better food, but the service was abysmal. Family-run Greek bakery. I'm the only person in there. Older woman is standing at the counter... - keeps me waiting 10 minutes, talking to someone in back - when I ask "What's the holdup?" she gives me a nasty look and leaves to the back room. If the food didn't look and smell so good, I'd be gone. But 10 more minutes pass... Younger woman (daughter? niece) comes from the back and says something like "sorry about the wait! I didn't know you were here." The older woman gets mad at her and tries to send her out on an errand, but the younger one (thank you, whoever you are!) insists on helping me before she leaves. She's as friendly as I can ask for, but the older woman is glaring at us the whole time... Fantastic food! Next time I'm in Lowell, I'm coming back here. But keeping a customer waiting 20 minutes in such a rude fashion? Never encountered this level of rudeness at a family establishment - or any other eatery. Lowell's Greek population was robust during the textile era, building churches, clubs and numerous businesses. The Demoulas family (owners of Market Basket) had their first store in Lowell's Acre. Around the corner and down the street from the site of their store is Olympos. The bakery offers a variety of deli sandwiches but my favorite is their version of spinach pie. Phyllo is wrapped around a core of spinach and cheese. It is shaped like a burrito and wrapped in foil. Messy but oh so good! Their cookies are very good, especially their version of fig bars......yum! Well worth a visit! Across the street is George the Tailor [Greek] which is next to a Market Basket [Greek] and around the corner from the Hellenic Cultural Center [Greek]. Back around another corner is one of the oldest Greek Orthodox churches in the United States, Holy Trinity. Its nice to know all of these places are part of modern Lowell. Its also nice to have a place in town that makes baked goods with [love]. read more

This bakery/deli is just far enough away that we don't often go there for lunch, but today i was reminded of how great a spot it is. So far above and beyond all other local sandwich shops that it will be part of my local rotation. I have to admit that fresh baked breads and sub rolls are a deal sealer for me. The toasted italian sub was on point, and my garden salad with grilled chicken hit the mark as well. Such a mixed bag that there is something for everyone here. Based on the previous two reviews, I decided to give this place a try and I'm glad I did. We got baklava and some cookies, we'll have to try the savory stuff on our next visit. Edited to add this - we went back. I got an Italian sub, my husband got the spinach pie. The spinach pie was very tasty - the crust was nice and flakey. The Italian sub was sub-average. It didn't have much meat or cheese in it and the bread was typical sub shop bread. Oh well. This is the best baklava I've found in this region. I divide baklava into two styles: wet and dry. I usually prefer mine on the dry side, but this bakery combines the best of both worlds. The baklava is very moist on the bottom half, but the top is nice and flaky and the walnuts still have their crunch. Yum. I also liked the raspberry jam shortbread cookies and a flaky twist thingy. I didn't like their biscotti. It is pretty soft, not crunchy. I like my biscotti crunchy, but that's just personal preference, I guess. Overall, I think this is a great bakery! read more

I wanted to bring back some goodies for my co-workers back in Charlotte but definitely did not feel the need to drive into Boston and wait 30+ min for hype of either Mike's or Modern (Sorry! But not sorry...) Got their lobster tails and chocolate covered cannolis. I was so worried it'd be all weird tasting so I kept them in the fridge at all times. A day later: I received variations of the same statement from three different co-workers: "I wanted just one bite.. but I ended up eating all of it. It was soooooo good! Keep the box away from me."
