I was pleasantly surprised by Omakai. I expected a decent spot for Sushi but decent would be a big understatement. The location itself has a soothing ambiance and everything was very clean. The service was also very good. Very kind and attentive. Now the food. I got the oma deluxe and got to try a lot of different things that I wish I remembered the names of. What I do remember is how fresh everything tasted. Not only that but the flavors of their dishes were exceptional. I was so indulged in some pieces that I'd completely forget to take a picture of the next. A must and I mean must try is the king salmon with lemon and salt. I don't know how they do it but it tasted so buttery and delicious, I had to get more after the experience. What was supposed to be a regular dinner quickly turned into discovering one of my new favorite sushi spots. I've been to some fancy spots but their flavors did not stand out like Omakai. Checked out Omakai on a whim after being at Saks On 5th and it started to rain. Figured we would duck in for happy hour. First of all, it's important to note that there are no rolls at this sushi spot. Sashimi, nigiri and hand rolls are a plenty though! Their happy hour menu has a lot of options too for great prices. The fish was incredibly fresh, the sake was warm and the beer was cool! Service was also amazing. I'd definitely come back to try their omakase experience. They also have a vegetarian omakase experience, which is not the norm but very helpful if you have a vegetarian in the group! This was one of my first omakase-style dining experiences and I'm definitely very pleased. I love sushi, nigiri, sashimi, etc and the flavors and freshness of the fish were amazing. The servers were very knowledgeable and friendly and explained each dish very well. I was also pretty full towards the end of the meal. My only concern was the temperature of the rice in some of the nigiri. It was a little warm and wouldn't hold its shape, causing the roll to fall apart sometimes. This is hands down the best omakase spot I've tried in Miami and broward. All the food was 10/10 and the prices are unbeatable compared to other restaurants similar to this concept. The service was 10/10 as well, the server David answered all our questions and explained all the dishes very throughout. Hey Foodies, who said good sushi has to be stuffy? Omakai has omakase for $50. Leave it to them. Affordable consistent Omakase you don't have to think comes at a good pace. Service is great. One of our favorite combos are their deluxe it comes with an app which for this season was their soba noodles. So good. Their sashimi special which for us was their salmon. Their handrolls Negi-Toro Hand Roll and Blue Crab Hand Roll. What I love is how it's always fresh. It's not overdone and you know they know what they're doing when the rice is the perfect temperature. We did add a little to our deluxe this time by ordering their Otoro uni caviar nigiri and unagi foie gras because it's my favorite. read more

OMAKAI sushi is a great omakase and sushi spot in Aventura! I've actually never been to the plaza or area that this sushi spot is located in and love that it's not directly in that busy mall area. Came here with my boyfriend to celebrate after an event. We were hungry and after a quick search he found this spot and I said yes because we're always in the mood for sushi. It was a little over an hour to closing and a weekday so we had no issues being seated right away. They had both indoor and outdoor seating. We sat inside and our server, Alex, was super friendly and quick to greet and help us get our drink order started. After perusing the menu, we choose on the OMA, which was their classic set that included an appetizer, sashimi special, seasonal fish nigiri, kanpachi nigiri, salmon nigiri, yellowtail nigiri, bluefin tuna nigiri, hand roll special, and blue crab hand roll. We also order a few other hand rolls and nigiris: negi-toro hand roll, bay scallop hand roll, wagyu A5 nigiri (comes with two), and their unagi foie gras nigiri (comes with one since its a specialty nigiri). Everything here was five stars!! From the service to the quality and taste of each bite, we loved everything here. It was hard to pick a favorite but we loved the unagi foie gras, wagyu A5 nigiri, bay scallop hand roll, and the seared dorade nigiri. Pro tip: they can sear anything if you request it! I love how they also knew we were sharing, so they asked if we wanted our hand rolls cut in half. It isn't easy to share omakase style meals but we made it work and they helped us so much. Some things to know upfront: no sushi rolls here! Apps, sashimi and nigiri. So, if you can't handle raw fish, you might struggle to eat here. AND they have a happy hour that is really worth early bird dinner. Lastly, I am a raw fish snob. I can't eat it if it has even a hint of fishiness to it. Knowing that, here's me review. This place is around the corner from the corner restaurant. It's a relatively small restaurant so evenings might be tough to get a spot. We went around 430 and were delighted when we saw they had a happy hour. We were able to lock and choose what we wanted and keep the price below the pre-set menu options where the chef pics your fish. We had a variety of sashimi and nigiri and I have to say, the nigiri is where these guys really shine. Adding small ingredients like pickled wasabi, daikon and sea salt, just to have a few, to ramp up the fish flavors. Id skip my sashimi all together next time and go for nigiri. They were also nice enough to accommodate my request for no wasabi in my food. Everything we had was very fresh and up to my high standards for fresh fish. The negi-tori hand rolls were super crispy and delicious. Definitely tasted like they used high quality seaweed. We had a wonderful waitress who was very attentive and knowledgeable about the fish and flavor profiles. The atmosphere was high-end, modern-minimalist. It was pretty quiet when we went in cause it was early dinner time, but I imagine it's poppin' in the evening. It's not a cozy place, like some hole in the wall, independent sushi spots, though. Both of which came with 6 courses. We were both stuffed by the last course. The fish was so fresh it melted in your mouth. We also both had the Sake Peach Bellini which was super enjoyable to drink, I wanted another one but I had to drive. I really want to say that I really enjoyed the wasabi since I believe that they have the real deal. We got the omakai experience which my friend and I enjoyed. I did took notes of what got: -Bluefin tuna and European snapper sashimi: I feel like they started pretty strong with these two. This two tasted very fresh and delicious. -European snapper with chives soup: I'm not sure if this was supposed to be served warm since it came to use not cold but not warm. It had a cooked fish so I'm thinking it should have been served warm? I did enjoy the flavor just not the temperature it was given to us. -Nigiri of 4 pcs: I liked these variety, they were pretty tasty and I would honestly order them again. -King crab with dashi soy and caviar: this one was delicious! -Nigiri of 4 pcs: I was a fan of the first plate of nigiri but when this round came about, I noticed that the bluefin toro I was served was old. It had a brown color and the slice looked like it was sliced a couple of hours ago. I did point this out to the server we had and they immediately changed it. The piece was better a bit but still had a light brown color by the edges. -Wagyu rice bowl: buttery meat goodness. -2 gunkans: yummy combo. -Miso soup with yuzu peel: this was kinda weird since it had yuzu peel with no tofu. But it was definitely also delicious. -Strawberry and condensed milk: ummm disappointing dessert to say the least. Finally, I tried this place which offers a nice array of omakase at different price points. We got the OMA, which came with quite a lot: an appetizer of perfectly salted edamame, Sashimi special, seasonal fish nigiri, kanpachi nigiri, salmon nigiri (my favorite), bluefin tuna nigiri, a hand roll special, and a blue crab hand roll. I may be missing something, but like I said, there was a lot! Each piece of fish was fresh, and the salmon was buttery and soft. The hand rolls were warm and packed with flavor. The service was friendly from the host stand to our waiter, and our waiter described each dish with detail. Hand rolls galore. You can eat a la carte, or one of their combo packages. I enjoyed nearly every roll presented. Freshly made for you and down the hatch! As with other locations, I'm not a fan of the stools they are immovable and not very fat person friendly (me!). There are only two seats one per side of the bar for those with disabilities or perhaps larger size. It's not very accommodating. That's my biggest knock. We went on opening night, the food, service, and ambiance were top tier! Normally on opening night theres still some bumps and inconsistencies but the omakai team did an amazing job with this one. The restaurant is cozy and perfect for date night, i love the concept of a prefixed menu where they bring out different plates to the table. The sushi is fresh and they keep the flavors authentic. Our waitress was kind and attentive- not once did we have our water or wine glasses being empty. 7-course Vegan tasting menu was DELIGHTFUL. Included lots of edamame, and 2 of the 7 courses contained some tofu for protein. I am generally not a tofu fan but Omakai taught me that a good chef can make tofu delicious! Most of the 7 courses were combinations I've never seen on a menu elsewhere. Service in this restaurant is superb. Found out on my second visit that 18% service charge is applied to the bill. Raw salmon on my nigiri was very fresh and excellent quality. We had dinner here on Friday night around 10 pm. The place is very small and kind of cute--that's honestly its only advantage. It wasn't busy at all, yet we waited a surprisingly long time for very simple nigiri. When it finally arrived, the portions were extremely small. Unfortunately, I didn't take a photo. To make things worse, my boyfriend found a hair in his food, which I had to remove from his mouth. We were running late for a movie and didn't want to cause a scene, so we didn't say anything at the time. The fish was also not very fresh. My boyfriend has been to Japan many times and knows what good sushi should be like. The waiter seemed completely uninterested and didn't care at all. We paid about $200 (gratuity included), which I normally wouldn't mind--but this experience was absolutely not worth it. I'm very picky about restaurants and usually never leave reviews, but this one was truly disappointing. We only came because it was late and there weren't many options. We got the 15pc deluxe omakase. It's not a counter experience where the chef is selecting random Nigiri du Jour and passing it across to you: they only have table service. It's a (small) chain restaurant concept, so there needs to be consistency and fair enough. That said, you do get to try most of their menu without having to think about it for even a second and there WERE seasonal fishies, too! Sure, you could pay $250/pp at a more traditional place, but for $95/pp? This is a very good value. We had some amazing tuna with caviar (yawn on the caviar - overrated), EU sea bream (unexpectedly yum!), wagyu tartare with quail egg (also unexpectedly super yum - melts in your mouth), Uni that... wasn't bad, a nice bottle of sake, a Japanese IPA, and a fluffy light burnt cheesecake for desert. But the star of the show was the Hokkaido scallop nigiri. Service was great and the staff was knowledgeable. Nigiri came out in sets of four and not too fast.
