My go-to is the Shawarma Combo with seasoned zucchini fries and a soda. Sometimes a cheesecake from the display case too. My daughter got some carry out for us to eat when she picked me up from the train station. The cauliflower seasoned side we got extra was remarkable. Even if you're not a fan of cauliflower wowser... So delicious. I like cauliflower so it was amazing and I ate my share before anything else. I had cauliflower as a side on my combo without the seasoning and it was good... But I love that seasoning. We also got falafel and it too was decent. A little more crispy than I prefer but that's a personal thing. I still ate my share. Okay I don't remember what my daughter got but she really liked it. The service was great the lady who took our order was very nice and helpful and I appreciated that. On appearance alone, I have to say that I was expecting this place to be a lot larger than what it was. Nevertheless, I was there for the food. . . I ordered the Angel Hair Pasta with Shrimp. Overall it was pretty delicious. My only disappointment was that I didn't get enough shrimp. I finished the dish with noodles left over, despite trying to balance out the shrimp to noodle ratio, while eating - to make it last longer. Other than that, my overall experience was a pretty good one. The pricing was reasonable and the service was prompt and courteous. I would eat there again. read more

The chicken and beef were both lacking in Mediterranean flavors. The hummus is seven dollars and it came with one piece of pita and tasted like puréed chickpeas and way too much tahini. This restaurant is definitely one that surprised me the most when reviewing the place. From the outside, it looks like as if the place is about to close or just totally run down. I went in to be let down. I got a weird vibe when going in because it felt like I walked into a place that haven't figured out it identity. We were served by two teenagers and they were friendly. Perfect for this setting. I got the beef shawarma platter and my bud got the gyro platter. I've had my share of Mediterranean food and I kid you not, this place has got the seasoning of the gyro meat and beef kabobs on point. The beef shawarma I got was tender and mouthwatering. I wish there was more of it on my plate. The hummus was amazing here as well. Fresh and fantastic. The tzatziki. Wow! It was so creamy and flavorful, I wish I had more of it slathered all over my plate. The plating leaves a lot to be desired but I could care less because I cleaned up the plate rather quickly because every component of my platter tasted yummy so it was a none issue. Oh fellow Yelpers, how badly you led us astray!! If I could kick your collective butts I would, but barring that, how about just warning, poor, unsuspecting visitors like us??? :-( Okay, I'm not going to say Jack about the crazy, grandma decorating style. Or the dirty doors, walls or tables. Or even THE worst high school (or maybe Jr. High) server EVER. Sullen, low talking, slow and clueless, I can't believe the poor owner couldn't find a better face for his business. My husband had the lasagna special ($9.99) which included a truly weird salad. Imagine a small plate of iceberg, absolutely drowned/swimming in a sweetish, anchovy based dressing. The lasagna was super cheesy and had a nice sauce. Four complimentary rolls were given to us to munch while we waited. The worst part of the entire meal was my entree. Based on the reviews of other Yelpers, I ordered the beef and lamb Shwarma plate ($12.99) with basmati rice, supposedly 'homemade' hummus and 4 triangles of pita bread. The rice was sadly dry and tastless, the 'tsasiki' sauce was like a thick version of my husband's salad dressing, the hummus was delicious but PREMADE. How did I know? The expiration date was stamped on the side of the little container. The saddest part was the lamb and beef. Shwarma should not be cooked on a flatop or grill, mixed with onions and green peppers and brought to you swimming in oil. The steak pieces were small and few and the lamb chunks were overcooked, dry and some pieces had gristle. Terrible customer service. They have a sign requiring the customers to wear masks but the owner and cook and people you interact with don't. No plexiglass barrier either. I placed my order and the guy who seemed to be in charge said to wait in my car. It should be about ten minutes. The place is tiny so assumed they would bring it out when ready or at least signal to let me know. They did neither. After about 25 minutes, the guy who took my order came out and told me it was ready. Then he drove away. I went inside and got the order and checked it. It was cold and no idea how long it had been sitting there. I told the guy now working there that it was cold and asked why nobody told me it was ready. He got angry and asked what did I think? Was he supposed to bring it to my car? As the car was only 15 feet away, I thought so. He blamed me and started yelling that I should have come in to check. Frankly unbelievable rudeness! I asked for my money back and the guy refused. He said I had to come back the next day because only the "manager " can give a refund. I can't say anything about the food because I never tasted it. This guy was so rude I just wanted out of there. I'll wait to get my refund through my credit card when I dispute the charge. Can't recommend this place at all! read more

Prior to the menu change, they were very awesome. Since the change, some things are still awesome, and some others have become less awesome. 1) Love the shwarma and gyros. 2) Speed of service has went down. 3) It's difficult to order over the phone. I haven't tried the new stuff, but it makes sense to me why they started service the fried menu. They are in a difficult location for serving middle eastern food, so they supplement with the fried menu, which appears to be doing well. I will give it a try some day. This is a small (3 tables and 4 booths) family run place where Omar still cooks, and his wife and daughters take care of things out front. The food was excellent! My wife had steak Mudiga, and I had a kabob platter with lamb, beef, and chicken. Both were very well prepared. The Mudiga sauce was nice and creamy with lots of mushrooms, and the kabobs were all very nicely seasoned. They also have shawarma, pizza, pasta, and sandwiches. Looking around at what others had on their tables, it all looked good. I'd definitely recommend Omars for good Mediterranean style good. We'll be going back. read more

I've now been to Omar's twice. It's a very casual place with a unique blend, including tastes from all over the Mediterranean shorelines. This includes items like shawarma, hummus, greek salads, stuffed pastas and pizza. What I found is that the traditional Mediterranean dishes were done amazingly! We've tried their shawarma and the hummus. The dinners come with yeast rolls that I'm assuming the same is used for the pizza crust (really good). However, when it came to my cannelloni, it was not really up to par. The sauce was sweet and not very flavorful. So, in my opinion, their stronger suited for the other items on the menu. Also, the staff did not let us know about the specials (check the board as you come in b/c they have nice specials) and didn't seem to know the food very well. I walked in with three co workers and waited at a table for 10 minutes without any drinks or acknowledgment!! Meanwhile two people had walked in and sat down five minutes after us and were immediately served drinks. The other guests put in orders while we patiently waited to be acknowledged and asked for a drink orders! My out-of-town friend wanted to go to lunch. He was staying at an airport hotel and we asked the front desk for a suggested. They mentioned Omar's for good Mediterranean food. My buddy is a Middle Eastern food expert, so we gave this place a try. To say the least, we were pleasantly thrilled! This wonderful hole-in-the-wall is small enough to feel comfy but not too tiny to feel cramped. We walked in and were immediately greeted. We were invited to sit anywhere. Four of the tables were taken by obvious regulars (always a good thing to see). The server came right over, gave us our menus and took our drink orders. The menu was extensive and impressive. We started with an order of Baba Ghanouj and Hummus. I had never tried Baba Ghanouj but my friend swore by it. I'm glad he forced me to try it. Fantastic! Fresh and spicy. I'm now a fan. The hummus was creamy and tangy. It was obviously made in-house and made that morning. My buddy had the Kofta Kabab. Its a middle eastern burger made with ground beef and lamb, spices, onion, parsley; grilled and served on a toasted bun. It was fantastic. (I stole a bite just to try it) My Gyro was spectacular. The meat was seasoned to perfection. The sauce was cool and tasty. We could barely finish the large portions but everything was too good not to eat. We left stuffed with smiles on our faces. The folks that do yelp gps / directions need a swift kick to the gonads. The GPS location in yelp was off by about 2 miles in the wrong direction. I came here craving Falafel. Theirs was very good. I had the appetizer, looked kinda like hushpuppies and cooked crisp without being dry. Not sure how served as a sandwich. The sauce really added to the experience with an incredible garlicky flavor. Warning the portions here are pretty big on their dips. When I came in a gentleman asked for some hummus and got a small bowl, I can only think he asked for a side. So from my misunderstanding, I ordered both Hummus and Baba Ganouj. It was a HUGE amount of food. I strongly reccommend only getting one. The hummus was very flavorful and had the consistentcy of butter. There was a hint of garlic but it was not over powering. It was topped by sliced cornichons, tahini? and olive oil. It was spectacular and the best item I ordered here. Disclaimer - I LOVE Baba Ganouj. Omar's Baba ganouj was OK. It was dressed like the hummus wtih cornichon, and olive oil. But it was missing something? It almost tasted like it needed more eggplant? It was really just kinda meh? It probably suffered in comparison to the hummus? Omar's is small, but a nice oasis, in the vast wasteland of North City/County Restaurants. They have a much more expansive menu than what I ate. The pizza looked very good.
