Last night, I stopped by Sultan Mediterranean before heading over to Word Up at Hot Java Bar. I'm glad I joined the waitlist when I did, as the wait was a bit longer than expected even on the list. The ambiance inside was like a cozy cafe with Mediterranean vibes, especially at the register. We were seated and already knew what we wanted. I ordered an Arnold Palmer, and the mint in the lemonade was refreshingly delicious. For my meal, I opted for the Chicken and Beef Combo. The grilled chicken kabob was incredibly tasty, and the beef kabob was bursting with flavor. It was served with rice, grilled tomato, and a cucumber and tomato salad, all of which complemented the main dishes beautifully. The tzatziki sauce was some of the best I've had in the city. This place is always bustling, and I can see why. The food was absolutely delicious, and my leftovers were just as good as they were when I first ate them. I'm already looking forward to trying more of the menu on my next visit, which will be sooner rather than later since every dish I saw looked mouthwatering. Walk in and try to sit down on a busy night. This place is in the grove on the corner so do your best with street parking if the lot behind the restaurant is full. The staff is small so you won't have a dedicated server. You can gesture to anyone and they will ensure your orders are placed. Another interesting thing is that they do not sell alcohol or standard drinks Americans would be used to, so try their pomegranate lemonade. Unfortunately my food was not as flavorful as it looked so that was a bummer. The deserts were excellent so that helped my sweet tooth. Glad we happened upon this Mediterranean spot while walking around. We were unsure what we wanted but this really hit the spot. Quick parking tip: they have their own lot with limited customer spots, so no stressing about street parking! Located in the Grove, parking can be tricky because of street parking, but they have a small lot in the back for customers. I thought it would be busy but even on a Saturday lunch, it wasn't too busy. We got a table very quickly. Service is great, and food came out very fast. Was out and about for some Mediterranean food and was referred to Sultan Mediterranean Restaurant. Located in the Grove, Sultan brings an incredible experience of Mediterranean cuisine and great service. We visited on. Saturday afternoon and was able to get a table without any problems. Thr lamb was great, chicken very good, but thr beef was disappointing. It was dry and hard. The price for thr same type of meats was lower so I found it a bit hard to justify thr price jump. I really wanted to like this place! Maybe it's because I usually don't get the "mixed grill" at Mediterranean restaurants, but for some reason there was a lot more beef than chicken and definitely more than the lamb. The lamb tasted kind of weird, IMO. Also, there was no garlic sauce, or any sauce, so it all seemed a little dry, to me. However, [[HIGHLIGHT]]the place was packed full and has great reviews, so maybe I'll just try something else.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The people were very friendly, and the restaurant itself was very warm and welcoming. It is in our neighborhood so we often go there. But closed doing remodeled space for sometime. Now we went back and ordered our food and it took a while. I get it. It's home cooked meal, so if you are in a hurry, not a good idea. I ordered pasta and my husband ordered something lamb. My pasta was delicious but halfway down, I see the pile of oils. I stopped eating cause I couldn't digest that much oil in me. If they cook me same thing without an oil, I will eat again. Personally, menu price is more expensive side than what it used to be. I understand everything is now more expensive especially grocery but I would not spend my lunch for $75. read more

This is my second time trying Sultan Mediterranean after being underwhelmed from my first experience when I got the Munto dish. I'm glad I gave it another try for takeout recently since it changed my opinion to be more positive. I shared the Mixed Grill and Dolma dishes. The mixed grill was tasty, but I thought the rice outshined the meat, which seems like it should be reversed. I have never tried grape leaves, but I was happily surprised by the Dolma dish flavoring and was delighted to find all the veggies were all stuffed with the rice mixture. I'd say if you're in the grove, it's worth trying out and would be great place for a group to share and try different dishes to see which works for your taste. read more

Sultan remains a staple in my restaurant rotation of casual eats that's good for any occasion. Located in the Grove where restaurants are plenty, Sultan stands out for me. Mediterranean food is not usually what I go for, but I was pleasantly surprised during my first visit. I have gone back several times since, and have yet to be disappointed. The service is always amazing and the food may take a little extra time to get out, but is worth it. I have tried the trifecta of lamb on the menu including the lamb shank, lamb kabob, and lamb chops. A beautiful corner restaurant in The Grove. I loved the way the natural light entered the dining area. The staff were attentive and kind. During the lunch hour when you order an entree you are served a bowl of Lentil Soup. If you are dining after 3 pm order you a dish because it pairs well with their entrees. I enjoyed the Chicken Kabob plate. The rice and grilled tomato salad made this dish filling. The Munto dumplings were my favorite out of the few dishes we ordered. We ordered the chicken strips and fries for our toddler. This is something we get often so it was noticeable that it took him a few meals but he ate the serving in its entirety. Walked into the restaurant, and I was immediately hit with the intoxicating scent of cooked meats and a wonderful aroma of smoke. Overall, the staff was very kind and welcoming. Ordered the mixed girl and chicken biryani. The Mixed Grill is a delightful combination of flavors. The beef kabob, chicken kabob, and lamb kabob are well-seasoned and grilled to perfection. Each meat has its unique taste, but the beef kabob especially was the standout. If I could go back, I would definitely order more of the beef if I could. The accompanying rice is fluffy and complements the meat well. The salad is fresh and adds a refreshing element to the dish. In terms of the chicken biryani, the rice and meat were both fragrant with a good amount of delicious spices. It was overall well-seasoned and balanced. Overall, this place is delicious. This will have your taste buds dancing! I've dined here many times but can't believe this is my first time writing a review! Crazy, right? The pros: complimentary lentil soup before 3 with purchase of an entree. This was the first place I had ever had lentil soup and it was better than expected! It's for the right amount of spice with finely, grained lentils and hints of onions. This would slap on a cold day. Trust! Their kebabs are everything! It's so hard to describe what you'll encounter from the spices but just know, you'll get your moneys worth and then some. So for the kebabs, I opted for beef (I usually get chicken but decided to switch it up) and since I did, I also opted to get this rice. It's called kabsa and while not standard with this dish, i asked for it. It has raisins and before you ask why anyone would do that, just know the combo works! The beef is extremely tender, well-seasoned, and packs a lot of flavor. The dish comes with a nice vegetable salad, which I think is more of a palate cleanser because of how refreshing the light dressing is. I had the most bizarre experience here. I'm not even mad just confused. I made a reservation on Friday for Saturday night. A party of 9 for 6pm. I was thrilled they accepted reservations for parties 8 and over... So my whole family heads there for my sisters birthday. We arrived five minutes to six. Forty minutes later we were never waited on. 40 minutes of staff walking around. Two times attempting to talk to the host who did not really speak to us. Every server in the place avoided eye contact. Tables were waited on and fed. After 40 minutes we just left. It was my sisters birthday and the unbelievable rudeness was honestly just confusing. We were all dressed nice, very polite, on time, had a reservation. We sat there for 40 minutes without a server. It felt like a mean practical joke.
