The cut rolls at Omiya are the kind of rolls that are very large to overcompensate for their bland taste. If you don't mind sushi which is a step below boxed sushi, this is perfect for you and cheap. Bay Ridge is overrun with Chinese people making sub par sushi and this is one of those places. I placed an online order this evening and asked twice for "no mayonnaise" on my Shrimp tempura roll. I didn't think it would even be a problem - sometimes when you phone your order in, they forget certain requests, but an online order? No way! It's written right there, right? Nope. Still came with mayonnaise. I called to complain and the order-taker said, "Oh, yes.. next time I remember. No mayonnaise. Sorry." No remaking, no refund? Well fortunately there will not be a next time. Omiya - a $3 shrimp tempura roll is worth remaking and sending to your customer over losing them and getting a bad review on Yelp. I ordered two other rolls which were both awful. The salmon skin roll's "eel sauce" had congealed onto the roll by the time I received it. Very unappetizing overall. read more

Had really liked this restaurant before, and especially since their sushi was cheap and they are closer to me than most of my preferred sushi restaurants. However, they've began to skimp on their appetizers after doing a buy 1 get 1 free promotion and even though you get TWO appetizers for the price of one, it still isn't worth it anymore. They also started charging for spicy mayo which is an outrage to me. They charge $1.00 for a small container of it. The delivery service is terrible! The delivery guy, who is the same person all the time, is rude all the time and always seems to be in a bad mood. Also, instead of walking the food to the door for you and ringing your doorbell, he sits in the car and calls you. When I arrive at the door, he just stares out of the car window waiting for me to walk over to him. It doesn't matter if I'm barefoot and it's snowing, he'll sit in his car. I'm quite surprised at the mediocre review of Omiya. Our cousin brought a sushi platter from Omiya to family dinner several times, and I always felt the quality of the sushi was very fresh. Salmon sushi is my go to staple at a Japanese restaurant. It is more easy to muck up than your regular 'ol Cali or eel avocado roll. And Omiya's is always great, whether we do takeout or we eat it in house. For our dine-in dinner the other day, we ordered 6 items total, and it only came to $23. That's 6 items folks... 2 lunch specials in NYC already bring you well over that amount. Most of them were rolls, with one miso soup for my daughter since she wasn't feeling well. Delish stuff. It came out very quickly too which was nice for me. The interior of the restaurant is very calming and simple. It's really bad my entire order just went into the trash. I tasted seaweed salad and it was off. It made my stomach turn and then I tried the "pepper tuna" which it wasn't pepper tuna. I come here very often and either do deliveries or take out frequently. LONG ago they were 2.50 a regular 6piece roll. Now it is $3 which is very competitive compared to everywhere else. The buy 1 get 1 free gets you likely 8 pieces at a very reasonable price. I really like the OMIYA roll. It's $15 for buy 1 get one. You must try it. Service is good. Food taste good. I would say value and good sushi is what draws me here. There are some disappointing special rolls, like Banzai roll. I think the dragon 9$ buy one get one is an amazing value too. Beware. I tried the Omiya-roll, which was an oversized, mayonnaise drenched concoction of fish by-products. You would think that they would put some more thought into their namesake dish. Instead they only put a lot of rice. Not much artistry as it is bloated sushi combinations. They overuse the tempura flakes in an attempt to cater to unsophisticated palates in search for "Japanese" cuisine. Omiya is like the Target of sushi; affordable, reliable, and just good enough to provide you with whatever it is you need to satisfy a craving. I'd never order sashimi or sushi here, but the maki rolls, at under $4 a pop, are pretty good for a low-end joint. The special rolls, ranging in price from $7 to $25+, are also enjoyable. I highly recommend the spicy dancing kani roll -- crunchy, kani, spicy mayo -- very good. The rolls are beautifully decorated, so 5 stars for their cheap price yet creative work. You can see their work efforts on the plate. Just like the review for the one I wrote about the ave U location, omiya is great for take out but dining in can be a nightmare. They offer a buy one get one free chef appetizer if you dine in but what they didn't mention is that they have one waiter servicing the entire restaurant. The service here is very slow and we had to ask for tea/water about 20 time before anyone noticed. The superstar of the night was the one male waiter who seemed to be the manager. He was very nice and knew that the wait time was terrible so he did his best to make it appealing experience offering free appetizers and checking on us more often. Very nice guy BUT it takes on crappy employee to ruin the whole experience. The FEMALE skinny waiter was the worst employee you can every encounter. She sat in the corner ok her phone and deliberately ignores customers. It was very rude and unprofessional. I had asked her for tea and she would look at me, not respond and walk away. She has a dumbfounded look and and I don't care attitude. This woman some gave this place the two stars. I don't even care about the food. My friends (, sisters, now, after having some rolls) and I frequent this place at least once a year. If it weren't for the distance I would be coming back here at LEAST once a week. I always get an Ebi Tempura roll and, although it hasn't been quite the hit as it has in the past, it continues to be a favorite (and always bring a roll 2 hrs into the Bronx for my sis). I mix it up usually with some salmon (omg please get the Ginza! but warning: mostly bread-y) or a random fish of the year. There are a few "miss" rolls, though, so just keep trying. And $3 a roll. Cheap cheap cheap. Have had their fried ice cream (price is a bit steep for 2 pieces), regular ice cream (it's basic, eh $3), and yes their teriyaki is a HIT! Sheer Lunacy!! They have caller id, and a pretty fast delivery guy. At this point it almost seems like as soon as I call in, they would tell me they order is on the way. i eat here frequently. whenever i have a craving for some katsu don, chicken katsu, udon w/ ebi tempura, FRIED ICE CREAM, etc. the staff know me pretty well. i always get my fav. rolls- odessa roll (i highly recommend this!) ichiban (mmm mmm good!!) spicy tuna roll bagel roll (DEEP FRIED and mouth-watering) omiya roll shrimp tempura roll ginza roll their sashimi (raw fish) is pretty fresh and good, too. their a la carte and dinner menus are always decent priced and good portions. try their "crunchy" or "deep fried" rolls. the Bagel roll & Ichiban are pure heaven! The lady who took our order was extremely brisk and business-like. Some people find it offensive, I think it's just fine. We ordered a *lot*, so we made sure were didn't get jipped off a roll or two. After our first plate, the lady just told us everything on the plate. Efficient, fast, professional. Here's what we ordered...for 5 people... - 1 spider roll - 1 ichiban roll - 2 ginza rolls - 2 spicy tuna rolls - 2 shrimp tempura roll - a small party platter (43 pieces), consisting of 2 cali rolls, 1 shrimp tempura, and sashimi Since it was just a bunch of rolls placed on a plate, I don't remember every roll in detail, but here's a gimicky rundown...(in my mind, it's california roll, spicy tuna roll, and everything else is mm-good-tasting-roll) Spider roll: I didn't try it out, but the presentation for this one wasn't that great. It was extremely messy, and the rice wasn't pressed enough, so pieces of it breaking apart. Too much cucumber. Ichiban roll: Tasted pretty good, but you can't really taste the salmon in it. Also messy to eat. Ginza roll: The salmon was over-cooked and tasted a bit dry. Not even the mayo could really make up for it. Spicy tuna roll: Generic tuna roll. Not bad. No, the owners are not Japanese, but most sushi joints in Brooklyn aren't. Their qualities of being convenient, cheap, and quick has me coming back consistently in the past three years. This is my go-to sushi delivery place. I always order from them on (advertisement alert) grubhub.com (which allows for less and less human interaction o_o). Anyway. I'm very boring when it comes to this restaurant. I LOOOOVE their baked mussel appetizer. I order it as a main course along with an order of the cut rolls (I always get the salmon roll with avocado - which is $1 extra; I have attempted to be a little more adventurous with the rolls, since I did get the squid once or twice). The rolls are fresh and a good portion! If you get the more expensive, fancier rolls (which can run between $9-12), they are usually buy one get one free (which is a great deal!) So if you are sharing with 2+ people, it's definitely worth it. I never get it just because I always order it when I'm by myself at home. I have tried also their bento boxes with teriyaki chicken. Not bad. Quite mediocre. But it does come with a lot of sides - miso soup, california roll, tempura, etc. The only complaint I have about this place is the time it takes them to deliver! I guess it is far from my place, and they do have an estimated delivery time of an hour everytime I order. But sometimes they take MORE THAN AN HOUR!!!! Omiya is incredible simply put. The quality to price ratio was overwhelming. Theres a section of regular rolls all for 2.50 each and then the special rolls ranging from 9$ to 27$. That may seem expensive, but get this! buy one get one free from the special rolls!! I like. I ordered the Ginza, Alaskan, Spicy Yellow tail, and Dragon roll while my girlfriend got a Philadelphia, Eel Avocado, and Sexy roll (custom). This totaled to approximately 25$ tax and tip. The price alone, is a turn on. The sushi may not be the best you'll ever taste, but when you have the price in mind, it might become so. Okay now that we know the food is satisfying, how about the decor. It's not traditional really, more trendy. The dining area is dimmed and the sushi chef area is well lit. Nothing outstanding... except the price. oh just for the record, my friends ordered red bean ice cream for dessert and said it tasted a bit funny so I'd suggest against it. Wish they were friendler though, but I understand that it's really busy at times. But they're cool. Very efficient. Decor is nothing special. Cozy, straight to the point. They accomodate reservations, parties, etc. They have a good deal, with their buy 1 get 1 free (of equal or lesser value) for special rolls. Which is nice, trying some fancy new things. They make it well. With that said, they make it well DINING IN. Take out feels so jipped. Even if everything was on that deal, they've sorta raised the prices since I've last been there. Quality hasn't gotten any better. I wouldn't recommend some of the higher priced rolls. It's not a high quality & fancy restaurant like Nobu or other well named places; can't expect your oyster rolls/lobsters to be fresh and such for the same price. I wouldn't go past the $15.00 mark. I will definitely continue giving this place business, but MINUS TWO STARS: -Quality either went down or stayed the same. I really hated the rice they use for sushi here. It was almost likely a sticky paste. Honestly I'm not sure how long before our visit they made it. The shrimp tempura roll I had was huge but about 80% of each piece was cucumber, and one of the pieces fell apart and I had the misfortune of eating the rice and seaweed and cucumber part apart from the shrimp tempura, and boy, was the taste of the rice... noticeable. Even when eating the rest of the pieces whole, it was all really bland. Probably because the proportion of fish to the rest of the piece was miniscule. The rice also just pretty much ruined it. The beauty of nigiri and sushi in general is the subtle flavors of fish. One shouldn't need to drown their food in a sauce to make it tasty. Two stars instead of one because I remember coming here a couple of times a while ago and ...liking it? (I guess?), or at least not minding it. I also didn't get sick, which is always a plus. this sushi restaurant is in the heart of bay ridge, the outside does not look enticing, until my friend said "its a good place to go to" so i went here, easy access to the R train across the street i'm not a big fan of the BOGO free concept because its just overpriced sushi and they give you a free roll, the rolls separately probably price lower at other places i would say this place offers an interesting variation in menu, they have AK47, iphone, LV rolls, quite creative and interesting, this is why i give them the 3 stars the sushi is not bad, i'm a big fan of sushi and the portions are big, some places, the sushi rolls are so small, they are not filling at all it is a very good place to bring a date, its not expensive, the lights are dim and the atmosphere very intimate read more

If it was a crispier medium, it would've been perfect. beef tataki - skip it. not that good. shrimp tempura - too much batter. Entrees: Seafood udon - decent. The sushi was a bit disappointing.
