I loved the idea of a small company. It was wonderful not being put on hold for a lengthy time and having a more personal experience. I really appreciate supporting local and smaller businesses, the reality though was that the actual speed that we received due to living further away in Nevada County was sub par. We ended up upgrading to the most expensive option and still the quality, even when speed tested by Om Soft was quite low and not fast enough. Unfortunately because of our requirement for a higher speed for work, we had to cancel our service and go with Xfinity. We could have left with a good feeling and simply realized that we were too far for great service but what turned things quite sour was the canceling process. You must know that you have to give a 30 days heads up for cancelation. We began discussing cancelation with them and were working out the time as to when Xfinity was going to come out, weeks in advance and then Xfinity was backed logged and could not come out right away..leading us to extend our stay with om soft. When we did switch over and paid in full for the actual service days, we received a bill from Om soft charging us for another billing cycle, in which we did not actually use their service and were at that time, utilizing Xfinity, all documented and for a much higher speed and 39.00 versus 65.00. We have gone back and forth about this for the last year.. One employee will seem very kind and say that it is taken care of...only to receive a letter in the mail stating that this is a notice. Then I called back and finally offered to pay half simply to stop the nonsense...and another employee seems amicable to this arrangement and then another notice is sent. If you do want to give them a go, make sure that you live close by and make sure to give an advance cancellation at least 30 days in advance and I would recommend getting it in writing that you will not have any extra unexpected charges...otherwise it is a nightmare. The people in general seemed kind to an extent..but the stubborness to charge when service was not provided was and has been quite shocking. read more

I have had Omsoft since they started years ago and I HIGHLY recommend them. Their internet service is AWESOME since it is so reliable. I can not even remember the last time I had an outage. They are are small local business in Davis and if you have a problem, it is easy to get them on the phone and they resolve any technical difficulties quickly. Omsoft has been our internet service provider for many years now-at least 12 years. Service has been rock solid. I can only recall a few outages and all had occurred upstream of Omsoft. They provide the DSL modem and replace it when needed. Their technical service is excellent. While their manner is not warm and fuzzy, they focus on problem solving. Omsoft has reasonable prices for DSL and it's a local business - if you live in Midtown or Downtown Sac (and perhaps other Sacramento areas that I am not familiar with), Omsoft is a good option for internet access and phone calls even though its office is in Davis - don't let that location mislead you. I looked up Omsoft because I don't use cable TV (so I had no bundling options) and I didn't want to use Comcast or AT&T (for example those two companies oppose net neutrality and may impose limits on the total bandwidth you can use in a month - Omsoft doesn't impose such limits). It competes with both options pretty well (Comcast's prices on paper look low but they go up to a higher monthly rate after a few months of discount - not necessarily a great deal). I'm not aware of any service outages over the course of about 20 months of subscription. I also liked that Omsoft didn't charge for equipment. When I wanted a newer DSL modem than my original one to increase my connection speed, Omsoft only required a refundable $40 deposit for the new equipment. The experience I've had with cable ISPs is that you have to buy their cable modems. If you go with Omsoft's fusion package, you get a reasonable speed DSL connection and a phone line with unlimited calls for about $50 a month. If you make most of your calls from home, you can take advantage of the home line and reduce the number of minutes in your cell phone plan for a lower monthly payment. For comparison, AT&T charges $25 a month for a phone line only without unlimited calls (so no internet either). If you're looking into ISPs, give Omsoft a look and/or a phone call and see if it suits your needs. read more

I used Omsoft when I was a student from 1999 to 2002, and again from 2006 to 2011. They're great about price matching AT&T - though last I checked Omsoft didn't have the cheapest but slowest options, but really, who wants DSL that slow?. For the same price, you get fantastic customer service and you get to support a local business. Definitely going to miss them now that we've moved out of their service area. The only down side is that they don't have 24-hour tech support, but honestly, I'd rather deal with that than with AT&T's poor service. The two times we had issues outside normal hours, I either shot off an email or left a voicemail and got a response the next day. And they've always been able to fix problems right away, unlike AT&T who used to deny responsibility or couldn't reproduce the problem. read more

This company is a band of middleman crooks. They don't offer any internet services themselves, they are just a middleman for AT&T service and will charge you whatever AT&T charges, plus a premium. When they say they will "send out a service tech" they mean they will call AT&T and ask AT&T to send out the service tech. Then they will charge you more than AT&T would have. They don't answer the phone when I call (usually takes 2-3 calls to get ahold of someone). The whole reason I chose Omsoft is because I can't stand AT&T and absolutely DID NOT want AT&T service. Unfortunately no one at Omsoft bothered to mention that I would have AT&T service, and I didn't discover that fact until the service tech showed up wearing an AT&T shirt. They will also require a 12 month contract (which AT&T will not) and charge you an obscene amount of money to end the contract. It's nothing but a money-making operation run by a bunch of half-wits. read more

Rob Nickerson and his helpful team provided Internet service for my business and residence for many years. I found Omsoft to be dependable and knowledgeable. They cared about the service provided to their customers and realized the importance of the Internet to us. Living in El Macero, an unincorporated village next to Davis created unique problems as we were limited to DSL service until our small community reached a recent agreement with Comcast to bring fiber to the home (FTTH). Poor customer service. Felt as if I was putting them out of the way of a very important coffee break/book reading time to ask them a question. Also actual service-connectivity poor, disconnects at least 5x/day from my computer and tv doesn't stream nicely, continually buffering... We've used Omsoft since the late 1990's. They have always had great customer service. We have replaced our modem once or twice in 15 or so years. We got to speak to real people when we installed the new one. Our service has been great and we haven't had any issues with getting to the internet. We definitely recommend them as an internet provider. read more

i got hung up on the other day by these guys when i called in to pay my bill. Really lame. I am going to look into switching to another hosting company. Their pricing is decent but their customer service isnt so great. And we have had our site go down a few times and have to call them to fix it. The reply is always 'our servers _______ (fill in the blank)'. and they fix it right away. Why do i have to call to get it fixed? Shouldnt they be fixing it on their own? read more

This place answers the phone fast. The super-nice people actually answering phones can answer technical and billing questions. There's no waiting. They write back to email within hours. I've even called right as they were closing, and they stayed late to fix something for me over the phone! This is the best customer service ever. As far as the actual DSL/phone service, we got their service down here in Los Angeles. It was FASTER THAN COMCAST for web, and a land line is a great "perk" to have in case of emergencies. They sent us a new modem when ours broke, and just asked us to mail the dead one back. Easy. They don't talk down to you if you know what you're talking about, but are more than willing to walk you through anything you need. Around 1/3 of what I was paying for basic cable. Inexpensive, quality service, fast DSL. read more

Omsoft is great. Locally owned and they work hard to deliver. We've had reliable reasonably priced service for many years. It is sooooo much nicer to deal with someone in person (even sometimes drives to our house!). We had a problem with our land line connect. Rob went out of his way to address the problem. This doesn't happen with AT&T or Comcast. Highly recommend these guys. read more

Called Omsoft today to find out about their internet service and to place an order. The guy that answered the phone was not patient to answer questions and kept putting me on hold. When I asked about installation dated and if an adult needed to be present, he acted as if these were odd questions and that he had no time to answer them. I felt rushed and as I am unfamiliar with their set up I felt I needed more information. Especially as I am trying to cancel my old service and line up the days. Unless you are willing to just give them your information and are willing to just be happy for your service to appear at your home randomly then this might not be the service for you. Really unhappy with the customer service. read more
