On A Roll has become our go-to restaurant since moving to the Berkshires 3 years ago. They have a huge and diverse menu and everything is cooked perfectly, every time. What you will see here, which you won't likely see anywhere else around here, is an owner who cares. He manages the flow of customers coming in and going out and is always there to pitch in where needed. If something isn't right, he'll fix it. We mostly go for lunch, but occasionally for breakfast as well, and are always well fed and satisfied. It is a pleasure to see a business, particularly a restaurant that is so well run. My husband and I were visiting in the Lenox area for an overnight and saw On A Roll Cafe rated highly - and so hand breakfast there this morning. Loved the sweet potato hash with eggs!!! Let me just say Yummmmy! Homemade everything, Great omelets, Fresh Breads made in house for french toast, delicious Brunch specials. Owner stopped by to check on us and made sure everything was perfect. Remeber takes a little longer as all meals are made Fresh. Homemade Chicken apple sausage patties were delicious! In response to David at On a Roll - you do not know how long we waited. You were in the back! In the meantime, there were several tables available and many staff members who could have performed the incredibly difficult task of showing us to a table. But they all avoided eye contact at all cost, did not once acknowledge our presence, or make any effort whatsoever to tell us when or if we might be seated. Apparently, David is the one and only person with the skill set to show someone to a table. Micro management does not work well in a small restaurant, David. And it would have been nice for someone to greet us, maybe smile, or tell us someone would be there shortly. None of that happened. I had to go talk to a person at the counter to find out that you were the only one who could seat people. We went somewhere else, where the staff acknowledged us immediately, smiled, answered questions, and made our meal a lovely experience. And it did not seem all that hard. Plus - we didn't have to wait for the owner to seat us. The other staff members were allowed to do it. Wow! What a concept! Roll your eyes all you want, David. Customer service still counts. Maybe you can train your staff to look at people, and who knows? Teach them how to put customers at a table. read more

On a roll...not at all. Service: friendly but SLOW! It was a while before we were given beverages and then at least 30 minutes before our food arrived. At about 25 minutes after our waters arrived, and about 15 minutes after our waters were empty, the waitress stopped to ask if we needed refills. I asked them about the status of our meals, and she said she'd check. Upon her return, the meals were almost ready. When they arrived, she thanked us for our patience, but no real acknowledgement that the meal was SO delayed. Soon afterwards, diners next to us asked for their bill and said "we've been waiting a long time." Food: Good. We shared a roasted vegetable sandwich which was clearly fresh, and it was tasty. The goat cheese added a nice flavor. We also shared the spinach Cobb salad which was also good with a good creamy dill dressing. Neither was fantastic but both were solidly good. Environment: It was 90 degrees outside, so we were looking for a respite. Ugh. While it was cooler inside, it was NOT cool. It was a bit warm and a little muggy even being close to one of the several ceiling fans. Great place with friendly attentive staff. Food was excellent. Was having trouble deciding on a few different options when the waitress told me I could do half orders of several things. Great recommendation! Had half order of eggs Benedict sausage variety and half order of toasted coco and pecan French toast. Both were truly excellent!! My wife had sweet potato hash with gluten free toast. Was a great gluten free alternative to the standard eggs or omelette breakfast. Would absolutely recommend it. read more

We came for breakfast after going to Electra's Cafe and finding out they were closed. We tried the sourdough bread which we were told they make at the restaurant, eggs, sausage (which I think they make the patties there too) and cheese. The sandwiches and home fries were delicious. Service was friendly and attentive - with repeat offers to top off our coffee. We did wait quite a while for our meals to arrive but we were in no rush. My family and I ate breakfast here while we were vacationing nearby and it was amazing. All of our meals were some of the best restaurant breakfast entrees we have had in a long time. All of the food was fresh and clearly just made. All the food was of really good quality, and cooked to perfection. We ate outdoors and the environment was amazing. They have some seating on their deck and some on their lawn. We were on the lawn and sat near a gorgeous garden and reflection pool. Not to mention the service was nice and accommodating. We were in Berkshire for a vacation and ordered breakfast to go. We had coconut pecan French toast, buttermilk pancake w/ blueberry, and 2 eggs with potatoes. All the food was very good. The French toast was made with probably 1.25 in thick bread and it's crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. Plenty of blueberries in pancake. What really made all of them extra delicious was the the maple syrup. Even the eggs were delicious. What a gem. read more

Won't be back. After standing in the entry way for a few minutes while the guy with the pants and five workers stood a few feet away ignoring us the pants guy came over to seat us. Rather than lead us to a table he disdainfully pointed to where we were directed to sit. We sat for several minutes while the same crew ignored us chatting together. Finally a server brought menus and we waited and waited some more while the crew were busy chatting and giggling. When we asked if we might get a smaller burger for the nine year old with us, we were curtly told, "All our burgers are all the same size." After another interminable wait our "food" came. My felafel was done on the outside and raw on the inside. My wife's lentil portobello burger was also undercooked and her sweet potato fries were soggy, old and cold. While we were still eating our server came with the bill and stood it up on our table between my wife and me. I laid it down and the server came back and rudely stood the plastic folder back up and chastised us for laying it down on its side. Finally, the guy with the pants came over to ask how we liked it and was quite insulted when I told him his felafel was undercooked. If you like poor quality food and truly crappy service this is the place for you. read more

It took quite a while for the breakfast orders to arrive for our party of four. One of us had ordered a "choose your own" omelette, and discovered after taking a bite that it had been made with onions, which she did not order and cannot eat. When we informed the waitress of the error she didn't Immediately offer to replace it; she said she would have to check with the kitchen. When she returned, she said she would need to check with the manager but he was not available. She eventually returned again, and said she could have another omelette made. By this time, everyone had finished eating and we were ready to leave. We asked to just have it taken off the bill. Then the manager appeared, and said all he could do was make another omelette. When we patiently explained that we no longer had time for that he said, "I'll take care of it" and left abruptly. Then the bill came, and we were amazed to see that he had deducted less than $5 of the $11 charge for the omelette. This place has been in Lenox for a few years, with another location in Pittsfield even longer. We're in the Berkshires every summer, and we've always had good experiences in both locations, with very good food and friendly service. But the real measure of any service business is how it handles the situation when things go wrong. If customer satisfaction isn't a management priority, it's not where I want to be. read more

The food was just good a bit over priced. I ordered a cup of tea, the that was brought to e was a dirty used cup, that was addressed. The little pitcher of milk came with old dried up yellowed milk, that obviously was unwashed also. Not impressed. The waitress was unfazed by all the dirty dishes. If there was a six. Star they would certainly get one from me without thinking twice. The food is excellent wether it's for lunch or breakfast the portions are enormous without effecting quality. Selections are varied from great eggs to wonderful pancakes and French toast. We walked from our hotel across the highway. It was a chilly morning and 7am. Being a breakfast cafe and a weekday, we were sure they would be open at 7. Turns out they don't open until 8am. We waited patiently outside for almost 1 hour in the cold. Another customer showed up at 7:50. He sat down on the patio with his newspaper. Someone came out and told him they were not open yet but that he can come inside. They seated him so we decided to get out of the cold and wind as well. We walked in and were told to wait until 8. They saw us sitting out front for an hour while they prepared their dining room. I feel that was extremely rude. Another person from our group had breakfast there on Sunday and said it was ok but not worth going back. We decided to go somewhere else that appreciates customers. read more

Had breakfast here and it was fantastic. It was set up very safely for Covid restrictions. The meal was great with homemade everything: hot chocolate, hash, sausage. We stayed at Marriott across the street and came down for a breakfast. We were promptly greeted and seated. Kids had pancakes which were absolutely delicious (there were lemon ricotta ones that looked really good too), served with local organic maple syrup. Home fries were so good, loved the homemade sausage etc selection, too. Chef checked in on us though we were obviously tourists, room was full of locals though. Lovely place. read more

Yum! Great way to start the day! I decided to make the very short drive just outside of downtown Lenox for an early breakfast. Our family came here for a simple breakfast on a weekend trip in July 2018. I would have to say this is a comforting, home-style breakfast place that is a nice, reliable stop for eggs, pancakes, the basics -- with good hospitality, good prices, and good value. Our group had the 2 egg platter (a pleasing $4.99), Lemon Ricotta pancakes ($5.99 for 2) and an extra egg ($0.99), and they were all served with potatoes, toast, and courteous service. They also have fancier dishes ranging around $9-11 for sweet potato hash, fruit drinks, etc. In contrast to what some other trendier (read, more expensive and hipster) places serve around here especially for the rich Tanglewood crowd, this was good value for the money, and a very nice atmosphere.
