I'm talking about "Threads of Tyranny" (or whatever they call themselves). First off, getting in was harder than getting a toddler to eat their vegetables. I swear, they had a velvet rope, a bouncer who looked like he wrestled bears in his spare time, and a questionnaire that asked for my blood type, social security number, and the thread count of my dreams. Apparently, only "industry owners" are worthy of their hallowed halls. I'm pretty sure my grandma, who sews better than most fashion designers, wouldn't have made the cut. Once I finally breached the inner sanctum, I was greeted by prices so high, they could make a billionaire weep. I saw a scrap of lace that was priced like it was woven from unicorn hair and spun by angels. I'm pretty sure I could buy a small island for the cost of their "sale" bin. And the staff? Oh, the staff. They looked like they were auditioning for a remake of "The Stepford Wives," but instead of being robots, they were just...snobby. Asking for help was like pulling teeth from a grumpy badger. I inquired about the difference between two types of cotton, and they looked at me like I'd just asked them to explain quantum physics in Klingon. Honestly, I'm surprised this place hasn't been swallowed by a black hole of pretentiousness. I give them a solid two years, tops, before they're replaced by a discount mattress store or a laser tag arena. Mark my words. If you want fabric that costs more than your rent and service that makes you want to scream into a pillow, "Threads of Tyranny" is your place. If you value your sanity and your wallet, run. Run far, far away.

Then when I came to the counter to have my fabric cut and pay, no one moved to help me. I had to speak up and ask "who is going to help me" my friend who was with me, noted how oddly different they were treating a paying customer. While they have great fabric I definitely will not return. It could have been the fact that they most likely are not use to men coming to buy fabric.

It was hard to tell the prices on some items that I came across that I was interested in so I used the Michael's app to scan for a price. The items that I had found had a great sale price so I put them in my cart. When I went to go to self checkout the prices were not ringing up for the same amount on the app. I didn't see on the app "on-line price only." I didn't have many items. They had 2 cashiers working & a little bit of a line had formed behind me. Not good to be under staffed during a holiday shopping mth. I was able to ask a cashier behind me about this price discrepancy as I explained it was a different price then when I scanned the items on-line. She had told me "those are on-line prices" I told her I thought this was ridiculous, that I'm in the store already so in order to get these prices I need to order them thru the app & come back to pick them up? Can't I have them for the price listed since I'm here already? She told me I could speak to the manager about it but she was busy with a customer who wanted to buy a Christmas tree on the floor since it was the last one. I had come in here after working all night & needed to get home to get to bed. I didn't feel like waiting so I didn't buy these items & set them aside. I did buy a couple of other items that weren't on sale. A few days later I purchased the items I left behind on the app & did a pickup where I parked in a number parking spot & an employee brought it out to my car. I didn't have to wait too long for the lady to bring it out but honestly this is stupid. A customer will still spend money whether they're going to purchase on-line or go into the store. This cute Christmas platter I got had some flaws in it so I had to go back into the store praying that they still had one & one that didn't have any flaws & do an exchange. I got lucky! But it stinks that I couldn't have picked the item out myself while in store & get the cheaper price. Dumb! I feel like Michael's has jacked up their prices too. I'd say the best time to shop here is when the items are on sale.

So we visit the local Michael's. This particular year the kids are growing and are excited about Christmas. In fact we want to celebrate the days when we were younger. Let's relive when we were young. We need supplies. That's why we are here. When all is shiny and sparkling is it all better? It can be . The mundane things of life can have life and happiness. Why because we are creating it. We, actually "me," need reminding, like the children that Christmas can have life and meaning again. We are setting ourselves apart and letting the past be the past. New generations are coming and living for the future. We are coming out of the past. Let's reward the people here with new opportunities and ideas that we make together and make happy. We are living for now, and an individual needs to step up and make it happen. We are provided the craft ideas, thanks to Michaels and the selection of home made products and do it yourself ideas to make our new memories come together to inspire others around us. Let's make it all happen and possible. The store was well stocked and the staff were happy and welcoming. We need over night to make the impossible happen. Miracles while we wait. Really excited for fall and xmas again. Anyways , we came here to buy graduation things for a lei to make and they were all out. He went to look up their inventory and kindly told us that he's awaiting a new batch that would come in wednesday which is today and he said to just call first thing in the morning and have the staff out some on hold with Jeff's request. I never called in the morning because i was too busy BUT at 5pm ish i called, they still had some in stock and they kept it for me til closing (8pm). I really appreciate the experience i had with the store manager and the two ladies in front cashier whom was also very helpful and informative with my questions about the return or exchange policy

The spring stuff is on some clearance at the front doorway, there are a couple rows of Independence Day things at the front of the store, but the rest of it has been overtaken by the pumpkins, leaves and "It's fall, y'all" signs already. Kind of a shame for hobbyists because don't a lot of people have hobbies so they can relax and enjoy their time? Not speed through and leave the year behind, getting ready for fall the same week that summer began. Yuck. And if Christian values or whatever are added, their employees sure arent indicative of it as they scurry around trying to avoid customers and/ or roll their eyes and brush them off if they so happen to be caught by one. Anyways, some cute things here and there, nothing original. Mostly a bunch of stuff made in another country (you know) on display, marked up so they can put "Everything with red yellow orange tags 30 50 90% off!!"-signs in front of them. Obviously, buy what you have/ want to, but don't fall for their "buy it now or it might not be on sale later!"- game. If you shop for your home decor here, you will surely find a duplicate painting or dish or pillow at a friend's house too. Save the planet, buy secondhand! ;)

Three of the four of us purchased sewing machines and all of us purchased fabric. We were greeted as we came in and asked if there was anything they could help us with. Their Customer Service and Sales department was great. You bet we will go back if we're ever back in Vegas.

If you expect to shop for your fabric like you are in a Walmart or Michaels then it is fine. They have products you can buy and the prices are just a smidge over MSRP. Sadly, that is not why many of us go to quilt shops. Quilting and art is foundationally built on community. This shop is cold, no one talks to you, or offers to help. I am the daughter of a quilt shop owner. I help out when I can and we greet every customer and offer to help with color matching or a second opinion if the customer would like. There was none of that. In fact, I was matching colors to a picture for a project in view of the people standing at the cutting table with not a word. I also went to ask if they had more greens because they were pulling online orders and they snapped at me. When I showed her I could see they had some she went oh I didn't know they were pulling orders. So, it is cold and not helpful. I will also say I overheard someone with I am assuming a new employee as she was showing her where things are in the store. Then she said yeah I don't work here, I am just here a lot. I was baffled why she was being nicer than the 3 people standing at the cutting table. Overall I almost walked out, but I did find some good deals. I don't know, I have heard that LQS can be unfriendly and ignore particularly younger sewists and I was confused. I now know what that is like. And I feel sad that this store has their platform to bring in new sewists and then disappoint and discourage them from being involved in the community. Edit: side note, order a little extra fabric as they cut right on the line and sometimes the cut is uneven. Very similar to Joann cutting .
