Projects: 1) Replace carpet in 2 bedroom Charlottesville property -- Project was challenging as floors in the high rise were concrete and extremely uneven. I was able to buy extra plush and durable high quality carpet for the cost of lower quality carpet elsewhere. Very reasonable price, including out-of-town installation. Floor Store returned to adjust carpet at the bath threshold where slanted floors left things looking odd. No excuses, no delays, no extra charges. Just a job well-done. 2) Custom area rug -- Love the sisal-look rug which fits my 13'x13' "everything" room perfectly. Got the high end look and high traffic durability I wanted for a great price. Love this indoor/outdoor rug. 3) Shower and floor tile for Richmond patio home -- Project is (still) in progress. It's been challenging due to general contractor issues and delays of several months (NOT the fault of Floor Store). Walter has been on top of the details, navigating the territory of broken contractor promises, no shows, and changing schedules with flexibility, grace, and professionalism. All the workers we dealt with were pleasant and relatively competent. The reason I would not recommend Coastal Contracting is primarily due to the lack of follow through with their one year warranty on materials. Our addition has been completed for about 9 months at this point, and we have had 3 distinct issues come up. Twice the HVAC has failed, and once the shower plumbing was malfunctioning. The first time the HVAC failed was right before the ice storm of early 2026, and we called the installing company to arrange service. They came out promptly and fixed the HVAC (faulty part, but we now had heat!) but we were told that we had to pay out of pocket for repairs since we did not first contact Coastal in writing. Ok. It then failed a second time right before the heat wave of July 4th weekend, so we contacted Coastal. We did get a personal email back after business hours saying that they would contact us after the weekend, which after 2 business days we have not heard from them. Again we did some repairs on our own. The plumbing issue happened between the two HVAC issues, so I was wise to submit my request for service in writing and followed up with a phone call, during which I was assured I would hear back...which I never did. It is just disappointing. Also disappointing were the many mis-ordered parts and vanity that delayed our project, the cut corners that we had to be vigilant about inspecting, and the surprise few thousand dollar increase in fee for a plumbing issue they did not see when they were quoting us. They admitted they didn't look under the house as they should have (I thought we were paying for their expertise?), but assured us that we could be happy that we were still getting a good deal. Maybe these hiccups and lack of communication after they get their check are all normal on a project of this size-I don't have any other point of comparison.

Soooo grateful that they went immediately to investigate the problem and stopped it before it became a disaster. Loosened sand and debris from the patio are expected; however, an excessive amount of sand left covering a large portion of the newly cleaned home, an overly large amount of sand in the pool and its surrounding areas each time, left me with several hours of cleaning, which was unexpected and demonstrated subpar service, and a lack of professionalism. It negated the purpose of hiring a professional. The amount paid did not align with the level of professionalism and quality we expected and received, serving as a cautionary tale for potential customers.
