I've been going to this cafe for years but the new management is awful. Items are now overpriced, cashiers are unfriendly and disorganized, and staff is unwilling to remake messed up orders (this happened again today: I'm a vegetarian and they made me a beef burger instead of black bean; I pointed out the mistake and I was told they "cannot waste" and would have to charge me for another burger). I am disappointed to have lost one of my favorite coffee spots. I've given the new management a lot of chances because I loved the restaurant before, but I won't be spending my money there again. read more

A Hidden Gem near Baltimore. My wife took me to this place and I absolutely love it. It is a unique corner cafe with bold, robust coffee, and hearty food that packs deep flavor. They have Burgers, sandwiches, amazing salads, but I highly recommend the tamale cakes with pulled pork and guacamole. I love this spot and we'll go as often as I can. read more

Love this place! I live on Lanvale so I visit this place quite frequently considering it's only a few blocks down. Burgers are great. I always end up getting one. Very filling and you have a choice of fries or salad. Both very good options. Curried chicken salad was also delicious. BLT's are bangin. Iced Coffee is great. Iced water is also excellent. Great flavor. And for the price of $0 it really can't be beat. The only thing that would really send it over the edge would be a lemon slice. I would be giving this place a five star review, but more than once I've experienced a rude gentleman cashier that seems to have a bit of an attitude. He needs to calm down. read more

Everything I've eaten here has just been fantastic. We live in the neighborhood and we just walk over. My favorite thing here are the corn cakes with the pork add guacamole. The burgers are great. I also love the black beans and plantains. The pecan pie bars- definitely get that. read more

5 star for the food! OK for the Service The short hair lady behind the register was super nice and helpful when we we were putting in our orders. After they brought our food (by another young lady with pony tail and glasses) nobody checked back on us. When she brought our food, we asked her for napkins and ketchup and she said the store is really busy and we should get it ourselves and did not have a great attitude about it. Coffee is great, breakfast sandwiches also great, the quesadillas also great, burgers are incredible (especially the Smoky), and the recent deluge of weekly specials have been on point. In short, it's pretty much the perfect restaurant in my opinion-- a coffee shop with breakfast options, a great selection of sandwiches, excellent burgers in angus, turkey or black bean variety, and a host of excellent latin quick bites from the previously mentioned quesadilla to burritos to the rice, beans, plantains and (optional) chicken box to-go. I'm sad I have to be moving out of the area soon and won't be able to frequent it as much. As other reviewers have mentioned, it can suffer from "hipster customer service", but overall, just an excellent place. read more

I am giving this place one star, not because of the food but because of the staff. I've had several meals here and the food has always been quite good. I've tried several sandwiches for lunch, one of the burritos, the breakfast quiche, etc. and enjoyed the food. The staff, specifically the young man who acts like queen bee of the hive, is quite annoying, rude, and inconsiderate. Even though this is the closest and most convenient eatery in the neighborhood, this will be my last trip to this. Here's why: This occurred the morning of 2/26. While I was enjoying a nice quiche and cup of coffee another customer came in and placed a to-go order for a bagel. There was some confusion between the person who took the order and the person who prepared the order and the customer ended up with the wrong bagel (seems it was confusion between sun-dried tomato and onion). The customer, unaware of the mistake, was just getting into his vehicle when the staff realized they had made an error. The staff member who prepared the order moved quickly and started for the door, intent on advising the customer of the mistake, when "queen bee" stopped him and said "he'll come back if he's not happy and we will fix it then". This shows a palpable disregard for the customer and is unacceptable in my opinion. To have the opportunity to resolve a problem, a mistake that the staff made, and to not act on it is inexcusable. I hope, like me, that customer doesn't go back there either. On the Hill Cafe, "you've been 86'd," at least as long as you keep such unpleasant people on staff. read more

Bolton Hill is the best place to live if you want to lose weight. Things like greasy chinese food, Domino's pizza, questionable Baltimore food became a thing of the past when I moved there. I had walked in front of On the Hill but had no idea what it was and did not care. But one day, work colleagues told me it had the best food ever. I must say, I must agree. I have never called a salad delicious before but the salads here are amazing! Then there is my ultimate favorite the Turkey Cobb. I mean, heaven! Which is great since it was my first turkey burger ever. Love the place and the great service. Now I just have to convince my job that we should order lunch from them one day. read more

Quite possibly the worst service I've ever received from the young blond girl with the bowl/buzz cut combo. My girlfriend and I ordered a sesame bagel with cream cheese and the young lady FREAKED out when we accidentally picked up the wrong order (an everything bagel - which I will admit was deliciously chewy). She even went so far as to angrily place our original bagel order on our table and asked "What am I supposed to do with this?" Perhaps she never worked a service industry job before, but these kind of mistakes happen all the time, hon. Chill out. OMG!! Wonderful flavors! I was introduced to OTH Cafe by a co-worker. We had a late lunch there recently. The menu has something for everyone. I ordered the corn tamales (reminded me of a thick pancake) with queso fresco and a side of plantains. I can't remember the last time I experienced such flavor and freshness. The tamales were stuffed with pico de Gallo and guacamole along with the queso fresco. The tamales were so delicious with lots of corn in each one. The fillings were fresh and plentiful. The plantains were some of the best I've ever had. Coffee was good too! read more

I know this review is sort of in vain because this place gets its business in virtue of location and convenience rather than because of any real stand-out features. That said, this is a neighborhood joint, and one expects a neighborhoodly ethic to follow. I live in the area, I come here regularly. Today I show up at 11:50 am to order breakfast. By the time I get to the front of the line, it's 12:03. I am refused breakfast by one of (the only?) young man that works here. This is just bad, bad, business from a neighborhood joint. When I go to a small neighborhood business, I expect capitalism with human face, reasonable employees that understand it sucks to wait in line 15 minutes only to be refused your meal in the difference of 3 minutes. It's just one of those small, rude and totally unnecessary gestures that add up make the world a bummer of a place. Like, I know you have agency to use your limited human power to transcend mechinic bureaucracy and sell me, in your infinite graciousness, my breakfast at 12:03pm, but you don't. why? uncool small local business, uncool. read more

It disappoints me to write these reviews, but just a heads up for everyone who makes an alterations to their order, be prepared for a loss of ingredients. Three times in a row my order was screwed up. I order the Jordan burrito in a box instead of a wrap, they don't give me chips. I order the Eutaw with no beets but eggplant instead, but then there's no goatcheese in my sandwich. I order the McMechen in a box instead of a wrap and there's no pecans or grapes in my order... On the Hill makes mediocre overpriced food. I don't understand why the ratings are so high and I've tried nearly everything on the menu just to find out why everyone is infatuated with this place to no avail. Bumped up this review a star just for the Rutter and the coffee. For at least $7 a sandwich, most of the time I am disappointed with how bland and uninspired the food is; maybe this place caters to a more white-bread palate? The burger is one of the better options, but honestly why bother when on Wednesdays you can go to Turps for a burger that's half the price and of the same quality. read more

When I used to live in Bolton Hill, I ate here at least two times a week because there weren't that many quick food options for lunch. They have really exciting sandwiches that come with a bag chips- but the healthier ones that are like taro chips and sweet potato chips. Sometimes I substitute a salad for the chips but that's an up charge. They also have a full service coffee bar so you can get an espresso or latte if you want. As a side note, if you want water to go, they'll charge you for the cup. What I've had: The Lafayette: The roast beef is sometime rare and sometimes well down. I'm more of a rare roast beef type of girl so when I open it up and it's well done and a little fatty, I get sad. I always switch the bread to sourdough and ask for them to grill it. There's horseradish which is pretty spicy, raw red onions and arugula- a little too many red onions in my opinion but they can be picked out. The McMechen: Curry chicken wrap. The mango chutney is chunky and sweet. The curried chicken is delicious but I kinda wish it was a little spicier or had more curry seasoning because it's a little bland. I've asked them to make it more spicy but they said it was pre-made so it couldn't be done. Rutter Burrito: Tender marinated pork. My favorite part is the rice because it's very aromatic, savory, and soft. It can get messy so I usually eat it with a knife and fork. There's also black beans and guacamole inside. Burger: Really juicy patty. The fries are the best part because they are so crispy and dusted with paprika. Mango smoothie: Really thick and delicious. Chai late: The chai isn't that spicy and it's too watered down. Inside it's pretty small- Maybe only 7 tables or so? But in the summer, you can bring your sandwiches and sit at tables outside. It's near MICA so it gets really busy during lunch times and can get crowded. The service is pretty apathetic. Sometimes you get a smile but most of the time, the cashiers are just nonchalant. The sandwiches are all around $8, which isn't too bad but when I get lunch for two, it always comes out to around $20 which is too much to spend for sandwiches when you're on a student loan budget. read more

This place is getting worse and worse. The service is so so, the cashiers could be friendlier. There is nothing special here-everything is mediocre. I used to love their Special Sandwiches and now even those aren't good. It's so sad because living in this neighborhood I want to like this place a lot and support them.this should be a neighborhood gem, but it needs a lot of improvement. The place is crowded and if you want to have a bite to eat and good conversation don't come here, It's very noisy. The one thing that doesn't disappoint are the croissants, muffins, and palmiers. Had lunch here last week, not a great option for vegetarians. I went with my girlfriend and we each had one of the veggie sandwiches: a black bean burrito and eggplant with hummus and the works. So I ordered a sandwich from here an they called my name and coincidentally one of the sandwiches was the same order as someone else. I opened the the sandwich and politely went up to them and told them that my order was wrong and I got a lot of attitude from one of the employees about opening up the sandwhich even though, I had no way of knowing that it wasn't my order and then I returned it to her and and she got upset because I touched it to see if it was the right sandwhich. Also my sandwhich only had one piece of bacon. I don't appreciate being treated like inconvienice to a staff member who made a mistake, I'm not a picky person but there are just better ways of dealing with mistakes instead of blaming customers. read more

My boyfriend has been wanting to go there for the burgers, but I'm a vegetarian, so I wasn't looking forward to it. I was pleasantly surprised to see there are lots of options on the menu, and not just a veggie burger! I ordered the tamale cakes and yuca fries and he had a burger. He loved the burger, but once he tried the tamale cakes, he agreed with me that it was delicious and would even consider ordering it instead sometime. (You can also add meat to them.) The guacamole was really fresh and there was no shortage of sour cream, which is really important to me. The yuca fries are also really tasty and none of them were over/under cooked or dry; crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They're served with a mayo-based sauce that's also great. Nice neighborhood place catering to the Bolton Hill and MICA community. The coffee and tea are good. You can tell a real deal coffee shop when they have simple syrup on the bar for adding to cold drinks. There are fridges stocked with Naked juices and other upscale drink options. The food options are vey good, and a bit pricey. For breakfast there are bagels that can be made with cream cheese, peanut butter, or for more hungry folk, eggs. The lunch menu offers a variety of sandwiches. Apparently the pork is the most popular. I find it a bit too cramped to sit inside comfortably. In nice weather, sitting at a table on the sidewalk makes me feel like life is perfect, but I'm easily pleased. read more

On the Hill is everything a corner cafe should be: cozy and friendly with a great menu. Seriously, it's just about perfect. I don't live near Bolton Hill but I will definitely make special trips back just for their pomegranate lemonade (that stuff is amazing and at $2.25 a total steal too!). The sandwiches are creative, delicious, and hearty; I had a vegan version of the Eutaw, a combination of avocado, glazed beets, and mixed greens on whole grain bread. I'm sure it'd be even more amazing with the feta and peppercorn mayo it's supposed to come with but the fact that it was still totally satisfying without them is a high compliment! The outdoor seating is a nice touch and the fact that it's adjacent to MICA means there's always great people-watching to be had. This place is quickly becoming my go-to coffeeshop and one of my favorite spots in the neighborhood.(Two words: bottomless mug) Since it is super small, I like to go early in the morning and then leave as the lunch crowd comes in. Can't justify taking up a table for longer than that, but if they had more space, I would probably never leave and eat all my meals there. The food is great, the people are great, and headphones block out the MICA children's conversations.
