On the Rocks has only been open for two days. My wife and I decided to try it for lunch and we were very pleased with the menu and the service. In addition to the items on the lunch menu, there is a more extensive dinner menu and you can order from it if you want something on it that isn't on the lunch menu. They also have a nice salad bar that can be an entree' or added to your entree' for a small extra charge. There is also a full bar. This will be a great place for people who are spending the day on the beach for either lunch or dinner. This has got to be my favorite restaurant on the beach by far! A place that offers Sunday brunch, lunch, and dinner! We don't have many choices for places that cater to all three. We have 3 to be exact, so to have the extra option at a establishment that has proven to be one of the leading restaurants that cater to seafood lovers is a major plus. All the employees that I've met are very keen on ensuring you have an experience and leave with a smile and full belly! Traveling to the area from San Antonio Texas we ended up at "On the Rocks" for lunch after waiting at another local place forever with no service. So being a little frustrated we walked into On the Rocks and were seated right away. The server was friendly and came over quickly and took our drink order and appetizer order. The food was great however the service was unwelcoming, all thanks to the General Manager. They have a promotion for each item you purchase you receive a raffle ticket to win a 50-inch TV. Our waitress told us you simply have to be present when your number is called to win the TV. The raffle started. A number was called twice with no response. Then our number was called. I go to the front to claim our prize. After that, a person comes up claiming they were the first number called. The manager on duty called the General Manager for the final decision as the TV was given to the participant that did not claim their number initially as the contest continued after their unresponsiveness. We were told that the decision was simply based on the General Manager's rules as no rules are in writing for everyone to see. They offered us a free dessert for our troubles....We found this unacceptable due to the fact that the common raffle rule is if the contest continues after a number is called then that number is voided. Also, a no more than $10.00 meal is not comparable to a $400.00 television. We asked to speak to the General Manager. She arrived in person in about 20 minutes. She stated her case as simply "We don't have to give out TVs" with an attitude as if she is doing a favor for us. This statement was constantly repeated with an additional claim, "This is not Walmart" and "What do you want from me?" She then continued to unnecessarily and inaccurately insult us by saying everyone else in the restaurant had more tickets than us. To note, we are out-of-towners visiting the area for the first time whom paid a total of over $100 at the restaurant throughout different times of the day. Then, we were wrongly accused of refusing to pay our $6 drink tab because of our disagreement with the TV decision which was totally false because we paid our tab before any discussion with a manager. Simply put, this is not a place to go if you're looking to feel welcome as a minority or if you are new to the area. The General Manager makes decisions and rules based on how she feels that second rather than having written systems, policies, and procedures in place as an effective business would. She also judges you based on what she sees rather than pure facts which is an ethical "no,no." Any socially conscious business knows to value all customers equally regardless of the dollar amount they provide the business. read more

We where there on sunday evening at 630, no wait, staff was friendly and knowledgeable in the dishes. Crap dip was excellent. Good portion for two. Wife had the lemon snapper. I've been coming to Atlantic Beach for a few years, but never been to On The Rocks. The outside looks a little frowzy, needs a little landscaping and painting touchup. The inside is much more attractive, bright, and clean. The grouper appetizer is gluten-free and came with enough french fries to serve a small town. My ribeye steak was well cooked to order but had a little more fat and connective tissue than I would've expected for the price. This is our first trip to Atlantic Beach and our first night out to dinner. We were very pleased! Our server, Lynn, was excellent. She was very helpful when ordering and attentive throughout the meal. We had peel and eat shrimp to start-delicious! Every single person enjoyed their meal, including my 21 month old. We ordered our food to go and it was good, fast and good. Nothing spectacular, but good. My husband ordered the burger bacon cheeseburger and that thing was HUGE! Good flavor though; my shrimp tacos had a good bite to them, they did not skimp at all in the amount of shrimp! One taco was enough for this lady that loves to eat. Mom had the shrimp and grits and that was good too. My daughter tried to have the chicken quesadilla but they forgot the cheese?! Amazing!!! We went to AB for a 4 night stay and I ate here 3 nights out of the 4. I had the fried shrimp and scallops and they were cooked to perfection, very lightly battered and the scallops just melted in my mouth. So delicious!! Even the french fries were super delish. On the Rocks is so good! The parking lot is kind of difficult to navigate, but it is so worth it. The lemon snapper tasted like cardboard and was way over cooked. The slaw came out in a plastic cup and tasted and looked liked it was bought from Food Lion. The salad bar was decent. My wife's portion of Shrimp and grits was extremely generous, a great blend of tender grits at quinoa consistency and a unique cheddar sauce. Ate inside and had a great experience! The tables are well spaced apart and the staff all wore masks. The chowder and pretzels, which we started with, were very good; the pretzel isn't a stand recipe but better, and very fresh dough. I'll just state again the chowder is VERY good! Well, lightning does strike twice in the same place! Lovey and I went last night and again tonight. Wonderful! Night one was grilled tuna and fried clam strips. The grilled tuna was perfect and the wasabi was unbelievably good. Clam strips were perfect. Night two was Island Shrimp and fried oysters. The spice on the shrimp was unbelievably good and oysters were exquisite. Two home runs! The chef is not afraid of spice, and I love that! Our server both nights was Lisa, and she is a delight. Excellent customer service and attention to detail. Ask for Lisa! (Important). The food quality is worthy of a white table cloth establishment, but OTR is a very casual and relaxed place. Me and my boyfriend have been contemplating trying this restaurant. Today we finally splurged and tried it contrary to the talks around town of it being high priced. I personally think it was priced just right for the portions. I got the steamed shrimp with old bay and MY GOD-- they were amazing! Don't let the outside fool you, this place is so good. Only thing i will say is the food took a while to come out and that's why it's not 5 stars, though that didn't bother me much after tasting the amazing food. After all the rave reviews we decided to go to On The Rocks for dinner our first night at Atlantic Beach. Big mistake!! We ordered cocktails, crab dip and boneless wings. The drinks were just ok but hey they had alcohol in them so we didn't waste them. The wings were obviously frozen and the sweet chili sauce tasted like it came straight from a bottle. Don't even get me started on the crab dip! The very first bite was so awful I couldn't even try it again. My mother bravely tried it twice and she agreed that it tasted like bad fish (tasted like canned cat food smells). It was not hot yet there was melted cheese on top and it was supposed to have lump crabmeat in it and there were no lumps at all! Eat here at your own risk! The server noticed that I had pushed the dip to the end of the table and asked if it was ok. We told her we didn't care for it and she said "it's not for everyone". She was able to take it off our order which was most appreciated. Did not stick around for dinner...obviously. Check out Moonrakers in Beaufort and ask for Will (the server). read more

The hot wings were not hot at all, my fish came with instant mashed potatoes and the food was really expensive for that level of food. Food was ok. My wife had Cajun chicken pasta and she loved that. I had the seared tuna. It was not seared at all. They brought out a huge hunk over tuna that was basically sashimi. It looked they may have dropped it on a semi hot cast iron for a second then dropped it on the other side. Just enough to make it turn colors but not enough to "sear" it at all. Good thing I like sushi. I ate it because it had good flavor and I do like sashimi and it was a nice size lid piece. It just needed a hotter pan or a little more time in it. read more

We went to dinner here and were pleasantly surprised at how good it was. Since it is still off season there were few customers. We both had flounder, my husband's was fried and mine was broiled. Both dinners were delicious. I also had brussel sprouts fried in bacon which were extremely tasty. My husband's fries were some of the best we've ever had.
