Delicious Barbecue! You can get it to go by the pound or on a sandwich. They have great side dishes too which are a compliments to the sandwich or buy a pint or quart to go. They offer several other sandwiches also but my favorite is the BBQ. Very convenient location attached to the Farmer's Market on the corner of Hwys 64 and 107. read more

We stopped by cashiers farmers market and saw this on the side and figured we would order lunch (take away only). It was quite busy and apparently it was the first day opening back up. We got the award winning brisket and a pint of the Brunswick stew with mustard sauce. As previously mentioned in another review, the briskets are thinly sliced (I have had bacon thicker). The flavor was nice, but the mustard sauce over powered it and all I taste is sour mustard based sauce. The Brunswick stew was packed with pulled pork, but the stew was thin and not much flavor. Definitely only mediocre at best. I am pretty disappointed considering it was so busy. I guess it was worth a try, but I'll stop by the other barbecue place up the road next time. read more

Clean kitchen, fresh bread and meats. The bbq pork sandwich comes with a sauce on the side. I liked the vinegar bbq sauce but I think the sweet would've done better justice to the sandwich. Also very good banana pudding! Rich and you don't need to eat a lot to get your fill! read more

This place is really really good. Been coming to Cashiers for years and always somehow managed to pull up when they're closed or just forget to stop in. Never again! Their Pork Cuban Sandwich was AWESOME! I'm from the Tampa area (wait, aren't half the people in Cashiers) and know a great Cuban sandwich. This was the perfect blend of pulled pork and a Cuban. We decided to pickup some BBQ from here after we had stopped previously at the Cashier's Farmers Market. So glad we did. It's a nice little addition to the Market which has a lot of local favorites. Being a UF fan it was great to learn they are huge Gator fans. It's all takeout, however they have a little picnic area off to the side if you just can't wait! We tried the pulled pork, Brunswick stew, collards, and mac-n-cheese. Everything was delicious. We also opted for the vinegar sauce which pairs nicely cutting thru the pork. Will definitely go back before we leave. Want to try the ribs and the Cuban sandwich. Enjoy! read more

No clue how the BBQ is, but the best turkey sandwich and baked potato salad I've ever had!

The owner of the market and the restaurant has 6 dogs walking around are they are awesome. But the owner feels the need to kick his dog and call it training them. After saying something to him he feels the need to yell loudly about who he is and how great he is. The food was sub par at best, the smoked Turkey is deli meat you can get from a grocery store the bread is old and dry. The beans were good, they lady at the window was super friendly. Won't come back to a place that feels it's okay to kick a dog. read more

I wish we knew this was here every other time we have driven through the area. It's attached to this awesome little market! You order at the window and the meal comes with chips & a drink as well as a normal side option. The picnic tables are in a little grassy area which is a nice little place to eat your lunch. The sandwiches we had were the Cuban and the smoked turkey Reuben. Both of which were very good. The turkey was perfectly done. Also, we noticed there were pickup orders you can do for dinners and full meals. We hope to try that next time! read more

We stopped and got a pound of brisket, pint of baked beans, and a pint of Mac n cheese. We asked for sweet sauce but it was spicy. Brisket was sliced thin and was very dry. Beans were too spicy for me to eat. Only thing I enjoyed was the cornbread. Definitely not worthy of $50. read more

Absolutely fresh sandwich lunches makes it hard to choose. Our favorites are the Cuban and the Pulled BBQ Pork sandwiches that come with a choice of a side, which we usually get potato salad, slaw, or baked beans (there are others), a bag of chips, and a soft drink or bottled water....one price. There's usually a line waiting at lunchtime, so we go earlier or later...around 1:30. Take your meal over to picnic tables or home or eat in your car. The main problem is parking! Just not enough space at mealtime. Food is excellent! Not open during winter months, so check before you drive any distance like us from the Clemson, SC area. By this point, I would venture a guess to say that my family (and extended family) have all probably tried all the menu items and I am here to tell you: you can't go wrong! We discovered On The Side BBQ on a trip to Highlands/Cashiers over Memorial Day. The Cuban sandwich was so good that we had it twice during our stay. We tried the Smokehouse around the corner and it wasn't nearly as good. This past weekend we took a day trip up from Atlanta to hike and of course stopped by to get Cubans and picnic outside. We are already planning our next trip. The Cashiers Farmers Market is also adorable and everyone that works there is just so nice! read more

Nice place to stop for some quick take out bbq. Service was very quick and menu has a lot of options. There is a little picnic type area to sit in if you don't want to take the food to go. I haven't been to Cashiers for about 20 years, so I was looking forward to seeing all the changes. As we were coming into town, I happened to see a little sign for this place at the Cashiers Farmers Market. Well, we were hungry, and I really wanted to stop and buy some peaches, so we did. After a quick little jaunt around the Farmers Market, we decided we'd try the bbq joint off to side. It's nothing fancy, just a window to order on the edge of the deck. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with collards, with a bag of chips, & a drink for only $8!!!! The bbq was incredible- juicy & still warm, the sweet sauce drinkable, and the price beyond belief. Cheap and quick...just the way I like. I decided to go off the rails and go with an egg salad sandwich on sourdough. All sandiwches come with chips and a drink for $8.75. The sandwich was enormous. Chock full of egg salad filling. Speaking of filling, this sandwich was defintely that. Based on my friends sandwiches I think I can safely say all the sandwiches here will fill your belly. I did get a small mac n' cheese side and wasn't a fan. The noodles were overcooked and the cheese sauce was bland. Not my kind of mac. Oh well, win some lose some. We stopped here on a whim on our way home from Highlands. It's in a little farmer's market, which is great in its own right. The restaurant is basically a walk-up window, and they have a little area with picnic tables to eat outside. We ordered BBQ sammies with mac and cheese. They were sooooo good. Delicious, legitimate BBQ. The pork was melt in your mouth tender. The portion size was generous. And the mac and cheese was the saucy kind, but definitely made from scratch. It's all you want in a great BBQ place: fast, cheap, friendly, and delicious. We will make a point to stop there the next time we're in town. read more

I haven't been in to the restaurant, but they catered a luncheon I attended this weekend and I'm definitely craving more... the pork was tender and had a great char on the outside, the sweet sauce was perfect, and the buns/rolls nice and soft. I'm pretty picky about my potato salad, but theirs was magic! I'm also pretty picky about Brunswick stew and I fell asleep last night wishing I had another bowl... The worst bbq I have ever had! We Ordered the brisket it was sliced very thin it was lean but, it was VERY SALTY and it was almost like beef jerky but a little softer. I THREW IT OUT. The potato salad had a heavy sour cream base and it was gross. The only thing good here was the coleslaw. I don't reccomend this place at all! read more

At 5pm on a Monday night, the food options in Cashiers are very limited. If you are reading this review, you are in the same predicament we were. We decided on BBQ instead of buying another batch of groceries at Ingles and we were so glad we did. We ordered a rack of ribs (easily shared by 2, could need more sides to stretch it to 3), 4 oz. of macncheese (cooked to death - skip it), 4 oz. of coleslaw (wish I'd gotten more of this because it was delicious), 4 oz. of baked beans (solid, no issues here), and a pint of the potato salad (perfect). Next time, I would just get ribs, coleslaw and potato salad. The ribs came with an extra container of the sauce to go. We chose the mustard based sauce and even brought it back home to Charlotte. The ribs were extremely tender and falling off the bone (while still crisp on the surface). Just what I want in a rack of ribs. Skip the other places and come get your BBQ to go! They have cool old time soda coolers outside, too. And the market next door is not bad to peruse either! read more
