This was the only place I could find that worked on classic Mercedes Benz. So I took it in to get my Benz checked out. He got back to me a couple weeks later with an estimate of $12k yes 12 thousand dollars!! He told me a list of what was needed and a couple of those items had already been completed either by me or another mechanic. So I don't know if he just guessed or figured he'd just put it on the list of things needed to charge me more. I told him to just put it back together and I would pay him for his time. He said he never took it apart and it was $200. So not sure how he was able to put this long list of repairs for $12k without even taking it apart. Nice older gentleman but his pricing is suspect. read more

This place is amazing the gentlemen here are top notch! I brought down a 1980 240 d Mercedes Benz! Brakes weren't working right, car wouldn't shut off. They fixed it promptly and affordably. They even gave me recommendations on what to fix next! I even got a diagram of the parts needed and why it was important to attend to these issues. I hate to, but I have to change my review of this shop.   I took my 59 Mercedes their to have it restored to a nice weekend driver.  The car sat between there and a body shop they recommend for about 3 years.  The only thing that was completed was my engine was rebuilt (although they never ran it to see if it works or not).  After paying a great deal of money (over 20k), I had to make the hard decision to take my car back and find another shop.  I was never going to be finished there and I would be milked dry of money.   I paid every invoice, did not question prices, let months go by without hearing from them.  My mistake. When taking the car back, I found new big dents in it that were not there when I dropped it off, parts that I took there to be installed like water pipes and muffler were no where to be found.  Wood defrosters that can not be replaced were ripped out of the engine bay... It was a true nightmare.   Maybe if your looking for a brake job or some minor work on an old Mercedes you may have a better experience than I did.  But if you are looking for major work, be careful. read more

Solid work done on an old diesel Benz. I've even called them a few times for some troubleshooting help when I'm doing my own work on the car and they've always been more than happy to help out. Don't show up expecting cheap fixes or the use of anything other than OEM parts. But, you get what you pay for and this shop is quality. read more

i usually take my classic Mercedes to German Auto Repair (an excellent shop), but there was a problem with a glow plug shorting out and Bob at Onager figured it out and replaced a brake light housing as well. I find it difficult to arrange to leave my car there, since I live on the other side of the county, but I have always found their work first rate and on time. read more

I have two Cars -- a 1960 190Db that I've owned for almost 40 years and a 1969 280S that is my daily driver and that I bought from Onager in 1999. I've been a customer for over 30 years. Without Bob and his mechanic Pete, I would not be able to keep using an almost 40 year old Mercedes as a daily driver. While they don't service anything newer than a 1995 model, their knowledge of older Benzes and parts sources for them is unmatched. And I don't know of any other place in San Diego that has a junkyard and an attic full of used parts for Mercedes Benzes from the '50s through the '80s. Anyone with an old Mercedes should get to know these guys. read more

It's too painful to go through all the details, except to say over the years I had some good work done at Onagers and also some terrible unprofessional work as well on my 50's MB. You need to bring some good luck with you otherwise you maybe in worst shape then when you started with them. read more
