But our moms weren't within eyesight or earshot, so we ran and climbed and splashed and wrestled. It felt like every time I came here, I cut my hands or arms or shins on the rocks, but I didn't care, because I was learning independence, and I didn't dare complain in front of my friends. The sandy part of the beach itself can get completely swallowed by the high tide, so plan ahead. The Newport Harbor Jetty (and, to a lesser extent, the CDM State Beach Jetty) protect(s) the beach from waves, so there's no real bodyboarding or bodysurfing to be had. That's probably a good thing, too, because these rocks would be treacherous if this beach weren't completely enclosed within Newport Bay's entrance channel. The metal fences separating the deeper parts of the caves always scared me. I realized the fencing was to prevent children from getting where adults couldn't fit, because high tides could mean drowning or otherwise getting hurt, but it was still spooky. I believe my friend Michael tried to bend back the metal, but he couldn't, despite how rusty and old it seemed. The stairs down to the beach are much nicer and sturdier than they used to be. Otherwise, it looks and feels the same as it did thirty-five years ago.

Hi everyone, My husband booked with this place for my…read morebirthday last month. I had a good time with my friends, captain was cool. The only downfall is my husband said he was expecting to go in open ocean and that we didn't need to pay extra for a captain if we're just going to stay in the island. Then at the end we also had to tip the captain. Which was fine because he was cool but keep in mind you don't have to pay for it if you're going to be around the cove. To top this all off after my husband left a review they called my husband asking him to change his review and exchange they will give him two hour free yacht ride, so we can go in the open ocean. We tried so many times contacting them, they told us let us know when is a good day. After us letting them know, he told us he will let us know when is a good day for him THIS month. I had told my parents we would take them on a yacht ride, so now I look dumb because it is the end of the month and the guy never got back to me on Instagram, over text we tried contacting them. So, now I have to go back and leave a review because it just wasn't right for them to do that. I'm leaving some pictures of the conversation me and the company had over Instagram. These are not the messages that my husband had separately with them as well. RESPONSE TO THE NOW DELETED COMMENT: never said I didn't have fun, my friends were there, we brought our drinks and captain was nice. A man is only as good as his word and obviously now you're lying and saying myself and everyone else on the boat was drunk. Of course we would want to take advantage of another yacht ride to go in the open ocean like he originally planned we were going to take our toddler and my parents so it's really baffling how you're trying to make it seem like it's our fault. It was my birthday and I didn't pay for it so I didn't know what was included in the package I still had fun but I am speaking on behalf of my husband. We just didn't get what we paid for. And by the messages in the picture I will let the dates and convo speak for themselves. We don't want the complimentary ride because you obviously had an attitude about giving it, and never got back to us. No hard feelings, good day!

The trail down to the beach is very short and steep in a couple lots. Some areas in the northern parking lots have a long boardwalk you can walk down and tide pools. Today, we came to eat lunch at the restaurant so we had to find parking. The only problem is there isn't parking close to it. You have to park in a lot across the street and walk about 10 minutes. They have a tunnel for pedestrians but it was washed out from the rain today. They have a restaurant shuttle that charges $5 a person even if you are eating at the restaurant which I thought was a rip off. The beach itself is a nice mix of rocks where' the tide pools are and sand where you can swim. The cottages along the way have a bit of history and recently been renovated. I absolutely love walking through this long stretch of beach! They also have a museum near the rental cottages. It is small but has some fun facts and pictures.

It did take a bit to get the premium bar menu to review - and I really wanted good champagne on the yacht to be served all night long, but they only had prosecco and we weren't able to work together to order nice bottles ahead of time. There was a 2 bottle maximum that was allowed to be brought on board with a $35 corkage - but they allowed me a few more bottles on board which was nice. But would have been nice to know ahead of time vs the day before. I wouldn't say anyone went above and beyond - but service was professional, courteous. Drinks for the premium bar were definitely on par with CA prices. They provided a list of caterers and for my milestone where I wanted French food - recommended Tom's Catering. He has been doing food on board for 20+ years and the food was PHENOMENAL. Guests devoured the food and everything was absolutely delicious. Boat has 3 levels and was able to fit the party nicely. They are pretty steep and concrete. I wouldn't recommend them for little kids. Make sure you go at low tide. They close the cave area when the tide comes in. The cave is on the far left side of the beach. You have to go over rocks to get there. It can be slippery. There were lifeguards on duty. It's so fun to explore inside the cave. We parked on PCH. There is no parking lot. I definitely recommend going in the morning. It's hard to find parking if you try to go in the afternoon/evening on a weekend/holiday. There is a crosswalk and stoplight at 9th Ave. to cross PCH and then the entrance is right there. There is a bathroom, but it is the typical beach bathroom--not very clean. There's a volleyball net on the left side of the beach. There are no restaurants/cafes. Bring whatever you want with you.

We went on a Monday and it was pretty busy lots of college-aged people, maybe even some high schoolers, but the beach itself still felt pretty secluded, and there were hardly any kids around maybe like a handful of them. It was overcast when we went, which actually made it perfect, not too hot and super comfortable. Parking is street parking only, just make sure to read the signs carefully. Once you head down, you'll find restrooms and showers right at the bottom of the stairs, which is super convenient. The restroom is clean earlier in the day (before noon), but like most beach spots, it gets a bit wet as the day goes on. There's plenty of space to set up and relax. One thing to watch out for--seagulls! They will go after your food, so definitely cover it with towels if you're hopping in the water. The stairs themselves are pretty narrow, and people usually stick to one side going down and the other going up, so just be mindful and take your time, they tend to also get wet as the day goes on so it's a little slippery.

The scenic view at Inspiration Point is beautiful. The beach wasn't too crowded, and we got space to sit down on our camping chairs. The water was cold but eventually manageable. Unfortunately, there was a lot of floating seaweed that would get tangled on my legs. The waves were hit-or-miss. Once in a while a powerful one would take us back to the shore. However, the waves were mostly calm rolls that allowed us to stay steady on the boards. You could even relax and float on your back through buoyancy. After spending a good time in the water, I was really tired; it was basically a workout. The incline up back to Inspiration Point was also steep. Luckily, the car was parked nearby for free. While CdM was a little out of the way, the easy and free parking made up for the travel time. I recommend arriving early to find available space.
